FOX News can be the butt of our jokes, but remember propaganda disguised as news works.
Some studies in the past few years have shown that FOX GOP News viewers tend to be much more misinformed than viewers of other major television news programs. The vast majority of FOX News viewers thought Saddam Hussein was tied to 9/11, even after that was disproven by the CIA. Heck, Cheney still claims to believe it -- and FOX is where he goes on television whenever he wants to lie with abandon. FOX viewers also tend to be among the least knowledgeable about national and international news in general.
That's because FOX isn't broadcasting news; it's broadcasting, as we know, GOP talking points. Its purpose is not to convey the truth about events, but to distort information to achieve political goals of the Republican Party.
For BuzzFlash readers, FOX -- best symbolized by Bill O'Reilly -- is the punching bag that you can't stop hitting. It's such an easy target for anyone with a few brain cells.
The motto of the newscasters is basically: "Pay me enough and I'll be your Tokyo Rose."
It appeals to the basest instincts of its viewers through slick visuals, attractive news anchors, and the manipulation of emotions.
FOX aims to distract America's shrinking middle class and blue collar base from the fact that the big Republican corporate moguls, like Rupert Murdoch, are picking the back pockets of the people who regularly watch FOX News.
Television has a powerful influence over much of the American population. The Republicans are masters at using the medium to influence public opinion. It's their Madison Avenue background.
The Democrats should stop showing disdain for television and start realizing that you ignore it at great peril to the nation.
FOX GOP Propaganda News is a testament to that reality.
That being said, despite the seriousness of FOX's participation in the betrayal of America by the Busheviks, if you stand back for a moment, the news network is really a bizarre circus performance.
That's where "Fair & Balanced, My Ass" comes in.
You can take the truth out of the newscast, but you can't take the buffoon out of the FOX newscaster.
From Nation Books:
"Ten years ago, Rupert Murdoch's Fox News Channel premiered to millions of cable subscribers across the U.S., operating on little more than faith and an unswerving conviction that it could fill a niche CNN and the big three networks didn't satisfy.
We know the rest of the story. Since its relatively modest premiere, Fox has become a force to be reckoned with; by most ratings measures, surpassing Ted Turner's CNN.
Fair and Balanced, My Ass! reveals the sordid results of Fox's rise. A network that presents itself--without perceptible irony--as a trusted news source, Fox might be the ultimate Cinderella story if the characters living happily ever after weren't the ugly stepsister. Examining Fox's phony patriotism and piety, its dishonest crusades, and its well-defined agenda and ratings-driven techniques, this book delivers a hearty slap-down to the jewels of the Murdoch crown, including Bill O'Reilly, John Gibson, Hannity & Colmes, Neal Cavuto, Fox & Friends, Brit Hume, et al. The result is a hilarious and bracing read: red meat for liberals and food for thought for anyone who is both amused by and concerned about journalism's continually eroding standards."
