We recall what Gore Vidal observed in the documentary about Nixon's efforts to deport Lennon from the U.S. Vidal is quoted as saying something like "Nixon and Bush stand for death; John Lennon stood for life. That's why Nixon hated him."
How true.
We are governed by men who love death too much.
Lennon was considered a troublesome "idealist." He viscerally rejected the "realpolitic" of Kissinger and the gang of armchair warriors who send so many to their deaths.
But he was first and foremost a great popular musician: a man of tremendous musical talent who knew how to inspire us and make us think.
