Bill Moyers for President Fridge Magnet

BUZZFLASH REVIEWS

Bill Moyers is one of our fantasy candidates, like Jon Stewart and Keith Olbermann.

None of the three are actually interested in politics, which is a very differnt kind of profession than the ones that they are in.

Do you know how boring it can be to be a politician if you don't like running around to campaign events, rotary club meetings, and meeting with trade associations. If you're not into receiving constant adulation and on a power trip, being President can be a drag, honestly.

But Bill Moyers articulates the American thirst for democracy and reinvigorates our ideals and our goodness with his lucid, cogent commentary.

He's a native Texan, who has listened to the people of the land, instead of the oligarchists who now run the Lone Star state -- and the American executive branch.

BuzzFlash ran into Bill Moyers in a hotel coffee bar/gift shop at the recent media reform conference in Memphis. We exchanged a few plesantries and expressed mutual admiration as he was purchasing a tie, because he forgot to pack one. He's not a guy who travels with a retinue.

Moyers was press secretary for Lyndon Johnson. He understands the key role that media plays in shaping the lens through which we see the world and the issues facing our nation.

There's not a voice out there that has as sweeping and artfully crafted a vision of America as Bill Moyers.

Our best analysts don't necessarily make great politicians. They aren't open to the compromises that have to be made at every step of the campaign and governing process.

But it sure is nice to dream of a government run by the smartest, most thoughtful people around.

Bill Moyers deserves our gratitude, even if he's not seeking the presidency.

And the man is just spellbinding to listen to. What a stupendous State of the Union he would deliver.
