Duets: An American Classic (CD)
Tony Bennett

For a guy 80 years old, he's got pipes.
MTV introduced him to a whole new generation a couple of years back, and he's been the class act of the crooners ever since.
But once he became the official singer for the "inauguration" of Nancy Pelosi, we couldn't resist offering his latest album.
Bennett started his reputation as a master of celebrity duets with an album that he did with K.D. Lang.
His newest CD, which we are offering, brings together an "A" list of noted popular singers.
Where else would you hear a master of '50 and '60s romantic ballads paired up with recording artists such as Bono, Barbra Streisand, Paul McCartney, Elton John, The Dixie Chicks, James Taylor, and Stevie Wonder among others?
Bennett's style is definitely something that we would call as smooth as deco silk.
"Duets" is a bit more varied than the classic Bennet repertoire -- and a bit more contemporary. But you have to marvel at the vitality and vocal mastery of this "City by the Bay" Octogenarian.
Since the death of Frank Sinatra, Bennett is our last bridge to an an era of lush orchestration and smoothly articulated lyrics.
And Bennett clearly is serenading at political events that hopefully herald a new era for America.
Thanks Tony for making a historic moment a class act.
