Awarded the Oscar for Best Documentary on February 25, 2007!

Need we say more: THE reality-based film that is as insightful for its focus on the threat of global warming -- which holds disastrous potential for all the residents of planet earth -- as it is for showing us the depth and wisdom of a man who would have been our president were it not for a silent coup.

This is a brilliant, cogent documentary that somehow manages to make a riveting piece of film out of what is essentially Al Gore's famous powerpoint presentation on the devastating nature of climate change.

We saw this film several months back, entering the theater with deep curiosity as to how a "lecture" could be made into gripping cinema. We didn't have to wait long to find out.

Part of its technique is to combine Gore's witty, committed personality -- which comes across clearly in the film in a way it didn't in the 2000 campaign -- with advanced cinematic technology. Then there is its fast pace that hurdles the viewer into the environmental apocalypse awaiting the earth if the "bubble boy" and his crew aren't removed from power.

And a muscial score helps move Gore's detailed argument along at a brisk, absorbing speed that leaves but a nanosecond to become distracted.

Only if every college lecture could be so compelling and -- yes -- entertaining.

This is not a partisan film. (We don't even recall Gore mentioning Bush or the Republican Party.) But it leaves with you a political awareness of the incredible bait and switch the Bush Administration has done.

Not only have they failed to focus on the real sources of terorrism. But the reality is that the willful negligence that Bush has shown in regards to the issue of global warming threatens the lives of far more people than terrorism.

In that sense, Bush is the man doing us and our fellow inhabitants of planet earth enormous harm -- and putting us in harm's way of a catastrophic environmental disaster.

Gore is wise in an "Inconvenient Truth" to stick to the facts and avoid politics. His case is as persuasive as it is compelling.

We can't afford to be diverted anymore by sleazy political demagoguery and manipulation.

An "Inconvenient Truth" is a call to action to save the planet upon which we reside -- and saving ourselves in the process.
