"Fruandes Ltd is the result of a Level Ground Trading funding and MCC (Mencoldes, Colombia) relief efforts. Seed capital, business expertise and training were supplied to the Fruandes project in order to establish a company which would provide a fair market price for fruit to small scale farmers and employment for disadvantaged women in Bogota, Colombia.

Level Ground Trading president, Hugo Ciro and co-founder, Tracey Ciro visited Fruandes to understand the needs of the workers. Fruandes makes every effort to employ marginalized women who are the sole providers for their families. The women have requested funding for further training and skill building. Level Ground Trading is ensuring this need is met."

Here's the story of one women who benefits from Fair Trade Frutos de los Andes: "Maria and her family (husband, 3 year old and 7 year old sons) were forced to leave their home in rural Colombia due to violence in the region. They arrived in Bogota with no prospect of employment or housing. Thanks to Mencoldes (Colombian relief & development organization) and Fruandes, Maria and her family now have a stable income, health care and funding for both children to attend school. Maria is a trained nurses aid but requires more schooling in Bogota in order to find work in that field. Fruandes is working with Maria to supply funding and a flexible work schedule to help her attain this training."

Level Ground Trading is located in British Columbia and is dedicated to "supporting small [indigenous] farmers with fair prices and community development programs." It is a member of the International Fair Trade Assocation, and a winner of an "Ethics in Action" award. It has also been recognized with an "Ecostar Award" for its commitment to waste reduction.
