"In Food, Inc., filmmaker Robert Kenner lifts the veil on our nation's food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that's been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of our government's regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA. Our nation's food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment. We have bigger-breasted chickens, the perfect pork chop, insecticide-resistant soybean seeds, even tomatoes that won't go bad, but we also have new strains of e coli -the harmful bacteria that causes illness for an estimated 73,000 Americans annually. We are riddled with widespread obesity, particularly among children, and an epidemic level of diabetes among adults."

This is a riveting, eye-opening review of how the consolidation of food corporations has led to an industry that is literally a hazard to our health, not to mention an economic suck-hole. It is a high-quality documentary technically with a strong narrative voice and arc to it.

BuzzFlash is also selling the book "Food Inc," which serves as a companion reader to the documentary, and it is available now.

"Food Inc." is the kind of film that, unfortunately, only a small segment of America will see, but could cause massive changes in the way we eat and grow and buy food if it were viewed by every American. It's sort of a cinematic updated equivalent to Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle."

If you don't want to know about the processed food you eat and the risks it poses, as well as the consolidated corporate control over food production, don't see this film.

If you want to be responsible for your health and for the health of the nation, don't miss it when it comes out on DVD in November, but pre-order it now at a discount.

For a taste of "Food Inc," with more of a didactic but highly informative style, we also recommend "Processed People: The Antidote to America's Toxic Lifestyle." BuzzFlash currently has "Processed People" in stock.
