I recently discovered Loofah-Art kitchen and body scrubbers in a health food store in Mendocino, CA where I was visiting a family member. I've often been frustrated by the half sponge/half abrasive kitchen scrubbers I've been using -- ones that I've bought at grocery stores. Both sides of the scrubber disintegrate into pieces very readily, so I was primed to try something new.

The Loofah-Art scrubbers come in whimsical colors and shapes, but most importantly they work. They are made from organic gourds and they last longer and feel better than synthetic scrubbers. Plus, these scrubbers help farmers in India make a living wage so I feel good using them.

I stuck a push pin in the window frame above my kitchen sink and that's where my Loofah-Art fruit now proudly hangs.

The Story of Loofah:

Contrary to common belief, loofah is a vegetable, not a sea sponge! Originating in Asia, this gourd-like plant is closely related to the cucumber family. It is grown in sub-tropical temperatures and requires annual replanting. The loofah used in our Loofah-Art products is naturally, and in some cases, organically grown and cultivated by peasant farmers who often refer to it as "the poor man's sponge."

Once the plant naturally dries on the vine, it is harvested and the outer skin is peeled off to expose their inner fibers, which form the natural loofah sponge. The loofah is then hand seeded, washed and left in the sun to dry naturally after which it is hand fabricated into our whimsical and functional products. Because of their longer and finer textured fibers that resist wear, Loofah-Art products are the softest and most resilient natural sponges outlasting most scrubbers on the market!
