"We chuckle at the notion that "Clapton is God". But then, you listen to this CD and remember how many hits he had and how great they still sound. It's also easy to forget how well Eric sings, though he had to be coaxed.
And all this while he was knocked out on heroin and booze. Perhaps Eric should not have carried on so much about how terribly high he was most of the time. People are apt to think, if being an addict gives inspiration like this, gimme some of it...

Of course the truth is likely to be that Eric just had such a natural reservoir of talent, that even being left with half of it was enough to make him a superstar. Many of his fellows of great talent did not survive that era doing what Eric was doing. Fortunately for Eric and us, Eric must have been lucky as well as blessed, perhaps having been assembled with a few extra rivets on his frame from the factory that enabled him to keep rockin'/rolling (and reeling)when others crashed."
