Only the Israeli-Palestinian conflict divides our readership as much as Hillary Clinton. That may be a telling sign of things to come in the primaries, or maybe not.

Hillary is the 800-pound gorilla, with an armored car of campaign cash as part of her entourage. Brilliant, but overly cautious; a Democrat, but a corporate globalist; for peace, but not for a withdrawal timeline for our troops from Iraq and not logical in her explanation of he Iraq "position." While gun shootings were recently riddling our schools, she concentrated on a bill to limit the violence on video games. And then there was that odd co-sponsorship of a bill to make burning an American flag tantamount to being a member of al-Qaeda.

Nonetheless, were she to somehow through a mammoth organization, massive funding, and the triangulation advice of husband Bill, make it through the primaries as the Democratic nominee, she would be the first woman candidate for President of the United States, which would be no small accomplishment.

BuzzFlash noted when we started offfering this series of campaign buttons for 2008 that we are not -- as has been our tradition -- going to endorse a Democratic candidate for Presdient in the primaries. That is up to our readers. Buy the button of the candidate of your choice.

Although there is a whole lot we don't agree with the current Hillary Clinton -- she's way too DLC for us, in a nutshell -- we would vote for her in a general election. She is not one of the candidates -- and we know some BuzzFlash readers will be disappointed with this -- who we will oppose in the primaries. (Remember, we don't endorse candidates, but we may oppose some, as we did in 2004.)

Let's put it this way, the Editor of BuzzFlash has his own candidate and ticket in mind if he had to vote right now, and Hillary is not on it. But we aren't ruling out that Hillary may be the party's nominee.

Personally, we think she -- her political star power status aside -- is going to face a tough gauntlet. 2008 is a year that is going to be about emotion, hope and candidates who can energize the dreams of Democrats. It is not going to be a year for cautious incrementalism.

Authenticity and empathy for the common person may be the operative personal characteristics in the 2008 Democratic primaries.

Voters are looking for a JFK or RFK to make them feel that the future belongs to them -- and that all things are possible.

That will be a challenge for the carefully calibrated Hillary.

But, all that said and done, Hillary is a formidable politician -- and a Democrat, even if not a progressive one these past few years.

We understand people who stand by her through thick and thin, because she is one tough cookie -- and we need tough Dems.

So we offer her button because she is the conventional wisdom candidate to beat. She's not from our wing of the party, but we have always admired the fighting spirit of the Clintons. They give as good as they get. That's a characteristic Democrats need dearly.
