The threat to democracy is still very real, in particular because the corporate media is biased against governmental intervention. Obama may have won at the polls, but the media -- owned by large Wall Street Corporations -- is framing the radical redistribution of money to the wealthy and the Wall Street gambling crooks as an issue of "free markets" vs. "socialism."

What that translates to, in reality, is no risk super-wealth for a few, with welfare paid to them if they lose any of their millions -- or in the case of the financial "titans," billions of dollars.

What we have in the corporate media is a "frame" -- as George Lakoff calls it --of "free market" bias, when what they mean is "free market" losses and risk for the middle class and poor, and no-risk fixed-market welfare subsidies for the rich to subsidize their gambling debts with our economy.

Glenn Beck was recently talking about a new Civil War on cable television.

After all, the big media is owned by big corporations -- and they still think that, for the most part, an unregulated free market is part of the solution, because they are big players in that disastrous Wall Street casino. Of course, this mythical "free market" is just -- for the most part -- a bunch of river boat gamblers who have crashed our ship of state into a bridge and blame the governnment for building the bridge in the first place, as we all sink to the bottom.

That is why on cable television opponents of the "recovery" act vastly outnumbered proponents leading up to the compromise bill. That is why so few economists were featured on television news -- or on the radio -- because proponents of government economic intervention far outnumber opponents.

BuzzFlash started on May 11th of 2000 out of sheer disgust with the corporate media's biased news coverage. Like MoveOn.org (which took the advocacy road, while BuzzFlash took the news and commentary road), we were mad as Hell that even the Washington Post and New York Times -- alleged "liberal" outlets -- egged on the Clinton impeachment in their news sections, posting leaks from Ken Starr's "hit squad" as fact, and blowing a mountain out of a mole hill. Meanwhile, both papers sat down like doormats -- with some minor exceptions -- for the Bush/Cheney administration years of illegal behavior, war and torture.

For now, we ask you to financially support BuzzFlash.com and help us achieve our goals, which we share with you. It's a constant struggle in a recession.

Suffice it to say that BuzzFlash has been a proven progressive pro-democracy altenative media and advocacy source -- and a unique model of journalism that can't be bought and improves lives and helps heal the planet.

We are not financed by corporate advertising -- such as sites and television stations that include hundreds of millions of dollars in "greenwashing" ads that make oil companies look like saviors of the environment or ads to sign up for Ann Coulter's website. We are not financed by subscriptions, which would exclude those unable to pay.

We are reader-financed, so we are responsible only to you. We don't have to worry that if we criticize an industry or individual that they might cut off their lucrative funding (not that we ever have to worry about the adjective "lucrative" at BuzzFlash.)

Owning a piece of the media is the ultimate missing link in restoring democracy and creating a government not run by corporations, but one of the people, by the people and for the people.

Yes, it would be easier to run advertising -- and we are not naive enough to think that advertising won't continue to pay for most of America's media -- but isn't there room for at least one alternative that is responsible only to its readership?

For nine years on May 11th, the answer has been "yes" for BuzzFlash because of you. We run lean, but we have been online everyday -- yes, everyday 24/7 -- since May of 2000.

Keep the dream alive. Help us survive and grow. You can continue to be part of this great alternative model of media ownership.

We need your support today -- and in the future.

Because you are our "sustainable fuel." And if you choose to buy a premium, you are helping also fulfill our mission of supporting progressive products, Fair Trade, and a liberal economy.

How you choose to use your dollars -- if you have any spare ones given the hard times -- can change the direction of our society.

Go to the BuzzFlash Progressive Marketplace. You can buy a premium (which we pay for, including shipping), make a donation (not tax deductible), or better yet sign up for a monthly donation (see the bottom of the first premium catalogue page).

And please to tell five friends to buy progressive at the BuzzFlash Progressive Marketplace.

One more thing, if we don't have a progressive book or DVD that you want to buy, just e-mail us at BuzzFlash@BuzzFlash.com and we'll let you know if we can get it for you through Buzzflash, not the mega-corporate profiteers who obstruct change.
