My sons are now in their 20’s, but when they were toddlers to kindergarten age, one of our favorite activities was to rent every video we could get from Shelly DuVall’s Faerie Tale Theatre Collection. We would watch each fairy tale over and over again.

My younger son now says that he was so taken by the fairy tales because they were embodied by real life people and my older son fondly remembers the mystery and sense of adventure that were so much a part of the tales.

Twenty years ago my sons never tired of them and I got the biggest kick out of seeing big time celebrities like Robin Williams, Christopher Reeve, James Earl Jones, Susan Sarandon and so many more playing the roles of favorite fairy tale characters.

The entire collection has just been released on DVD and I strongly urge every parent, grandparent and sitter to invest in the collection. You will surely revel in numerous hours of magic and delight. The collection includes 7 DVDs, 26 tales and a running time of 1326 minutes.

You will not be disappointed. If your children, grandchildren, neighbors and friends are at all like my sons, they will not be satisfied in watching each tale once. They will want to be transported over and over again to the land of the beanstalk, to Cinderella’s hovel, to Aladdin’s lamp and all the rest.

You and the little ones in your world deserve the hours of enchantment you will surely receive from these treasured tales.

For those interested, the KOCH Vision release of Shelley Duvall's Faerie Tale Theatre arrives on 9/2/08. The 26 Classic Live Action shows are accompanied by "the missing" episode entitled "The Best Moments of Faerie Tale Theatre", but more commonly known as "Grimm Party".

All episodes have been digitally restored and the 7 disk collection also includes a 112-page book developed from original production notes representing short-story versions of all of the tales. This book includes an introduction by series producer Bridgette Terry.
