The New Silent Majority, Part II: In Touch With Our Inner Carville!

by Rebecca Knight

"My next thing is to drive mealy-mouthism from the Democratic Party. The American people are not going to elect somebody to defend America who cannot defend themselves."

"Republicans have learned that they can say anything they want to. When you answer it, a lot of Democrats are horrified. They say you can't do that, that it's negativism. No, it's not. It's deciding that you aren't going to let thuggery work."

"We are the party that knows what works. We are the party for fiscal discipline. We are the party for an economic policy that works. We are the party who had the respect of the world when our president went abroad."

-- James Carville

Gotta love that guy! James is right. We need to drive "mealy-mouthism" from the Democratic Party. Based upon the response from the readers of "The New Silent Majority," it is evident that most would agree. Below is a sampling of what THE PEOPLE had to say, along with my comments.

Your article is unquestionably right on the money! I applaud you for your journalistic efforts and courage. There are so many of us who wish we could make a meaningful contribution to stem the tide of the Administration's lies and deceit. My heart is with you and those of you who would exercise the strength and knowledge it takes to fight the good fight. May God bless you..now and always!

great piece of work as usual; only one thing I would disagree with: I don't think the middle east business is all about oil anymore; maybe it was once upon a time; but nowadays I think it is more about drugs --- the opium that is coming fast and furious out of Afghanistan for instance; and it's also about weapons and using them --- remember, every time a shot is fired or a missile is launched or a bomb is dropped, someone is buying new ones and paying the Carlyle Group or Kissinger and Associates or one of the other defense procurers. great work; don't stop;

MY COMMENT: Yes, I agree, drugs and the enrichment of the defense conglomerates are also factors in the rush to war.

Thank you for standing tall against the evil Bush machine. I will never again stand silent myself when such violations of the Bill Of Rights are taking place by those who are supposed to defend them! We, the "silent majority," must unite if we are to protect our most basic civil liberties!

Thank you so much for writing this article. I watched both the CNN and MSNBC shows you mentioned and you're very right about some people finally speaking their mind on what's right and what's wrong. I only wish more people would tune in and watch b/c what's going to happen is they will end up being canceled b/c not enough viewers tuned in. We need to take advantage of what's on now before all we end up with is more and more FOXNEWS all over the place!

Thank you, thank you. There is a huge silent majority.

I will never ever lose faith in the thoughtful and progressive spirit that lives in my fellow patriotic Americans.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Bravo, Rebecca. As always, a first rate rant. By the way, if you haven't seen the pictures at radioleft.com of the Portland Police Rampage, check it out. I was chilled by images that seemed more out of Nazi Germany than present day America.

MY COMMENT: Yes, I have seen the pictures. "Chilled" is the appropriate word, indeed.

Wow! Rebecca, your new article is fantastic!!! Bravo!

I appreciate your outrage and your quotes, etc, etc. But what is your point? You're not telling anyone anything we don't already know. Why don't you try explaining to your readers how outrageous this pre-emptive attack would be and how our nation would suffer dearly from such futile attempts to topple a government so entrenched. What about telling your readers how much it would cost in American lives and dollars to support a new regime, hand picked by Americans, with no guarantee that they would abide by our policy. Why not just tell your readers that this administration is leading this country into doomsday. It might be a refreshing change if reporters told it like it really is, instead of sucking up to what they want you to write. Where is the creativity and imagination that real news people exuded? It breaks my heart to believe that everyone with the capacity to send a message has been bought, or so it seems.

MY COMMENT: Apparently, this reader is unfamiliar with previous articles in which I have covered in detail the issues he is concerned about. Creativity and imagination is exactly what I try to bring to my columns. Bought? How can one be bought when one writes for no compensation, but purely for love of country? And BuzzFlash has never attempted to stifle or influence my voice in any way. BuzzFlash supports our voices and I hope you are supporting it with your donations.

Keep up the good writing. I am trying to get everyone to read your articles and visit the BuzzFlash Report. I will not even admit to calling Boy Bush as President Stupid. I agree with the part that says STUPID, but I will never recognize him as my President. The policies that he is setting for America will set us back 100 years. When are Congress and the Press going to put a stop to his agenda? He truly does not have any shame.

You are right, the silent majority will have to lead if we are to keep or get back the rights that were so rightfully granted by our forefathers. Let us hope that the Electorate will send a strong message to the Bush, Cheney agenda this fall.

Another great article, keep it up, I also got in my two cents worth on MWO, with a two liner on Rushes lies about the turnout at the Portland protest. I'm not quite that articulate on these matters, but my hearts in the right place.

* * *

It will take some time but with your help, we can make a difference.

MY COMMENT: I am doing all I can to help. I hope you are all becoming activists also.

* * *

Good stuff about Studs Terkel, James Carville & about the way our president's visit to Oregon (& California) was managed to minimize opportunity for dissent, etc.

They're not fooling all of us, and you are a great voice for exposing the treachery and virtual treason being perpetrated by our supposed leadership.

* * *

I really appreciate your excellent writing in the essays against "boygeorge" and his "hawk babysitters." The most recent one on Donahue interviewing Terkel was just great. I'm a 74 year old former activist (was a turtle in the Seattle wto event along with 50,000 other behaved adults) who now mainly uses the internet to pass things along...and yours is my favorite. Keep up the wonderful writing...you make my heart sing......

I just finished your essay on the Silent Majority, and was moved to write you a brief note to say thanks. Thanks for voicing in your essays what a lot of "real Americans" feel. Thanks for continuing to hammer away at the W regime with the truth. And thanks for letting me know that I am not alone in my disgust with what is happening to our country.

I just want to assure you that there are indeed lots of us up here in Wisconsin who feel as you and I do. Unfortunately, the media here are No better than where you are. Nothing but happy news produced by one of the media giants. So the protests against Bush/Cheney when either of them has been here are not mentioned although indie papers always have photos of huge crowds gathered in the so-called First Amendments Zones.

* * *

I saw the Donahue program with Studs Terkel. Wonderful. I kept shouting "Go Studs, Go!" at the TV. I also thought Donahue's two programs with the panel in Houston discussing Enron was very good.

Another program on Public Television that is very much worth watching is Bill Moyers' "NOW", which is on Fridays at 8:00 p.m. (at least in New York). He had a program about privatizing water long before I heard it being discussed elsewhere.

* * *

Once again, thank you dear readers for your responses. The ideals of true American patriotism are alive and well. We are powerful and we should express that power through working to get the right candidates elected in November, registering voters, and taking back our country from those who would seek to silence us for their own agendas.

ONE FINAL NOTE: I truly enjoy hearing from my readers and want to give a forum to your thoughts, criticisms, agreements, outrages, and rants. So, for the time being, I will be opening up my second column per week to your words received through e-mails. If you have something to say, let me hear from you!
