When Pigs Fly! by Rebecca Knight June 6, 2002 Poppy
Bush's career included stints working for Tricky Dick and Henry Kissinger.
He was head of the RNC at the height of Watergate. He held the top
diplomatic post in China and was head of the CIA under Ford. During
the Carter administration he was heavily involved in the banking industry
and made mysterious overseas trips. He hooked up with longtime friend
James Baker, III to manage Poppy's campaign for the Republican nomination
for president in 1980. When Reagan obtained the nomination, he tapped
Poppy for vice-president. The
Reagan/Bush campaign was paranoid about the Carter administration's potential
for pulling off what they termed an "October Surprise" through the release
of the Iran hostages allowing Carter to win a second presidential term.
So, they went on the offensive and negotiated their own "October Surprise"
deal with the Iranian government. Poppy, John McFarland, and William
Casey negotiated the deal with meetings in Washington, Madrid, and Paris.
Two pilots have stated that Bush attended the meeting in Paris.
Bush made no public appearances during the "missing" 21 hours, which was
three weeks prior to the election. The concept of an arms-for-hostages
deal was consummated with a payment of $40 million to the Iranian government
through a Luxembourg bank. On October 21, the Iranians changed their
entire negotiating position with the Carter administration. The
hostages were not released before the November election, which Reagan
won convincingly. That night, Bush said to Reagan, "You're in like
a burglar." Khomeini kept the hostages imprisoned until January 20, the
day of the Reagan-Bush inauguration, and let the hostage plane take off
just as Reagan and Bush were taking their oaths of office. Within
a few years the Reagan/Bush administration would be embroiled in another
arms for hostages deal, the Iran/Contra scandal. Reagan/Bush were
willing to trade arms to Iran for the release of Americans held hostage
in the Middle East, even if doing so was contrary to the nation's stated
policy and possibly in violation of the law. In an early interview
with the FBI in December 1986 and in the OIC deposition in January 1988,
Vice-president Bush acknowledged that he was regularly informed of events
connected with the Iran arms sales, including the 1985 Israeli missile
shipments. These statements conflicted with his more extreme public
assertions that he was "out of the loop'' regarding the operational details
of the Iran initiative. Special
Prosecutor Lawrence Walsh intended to continue his investigation into
the Bush involvement following the 1992 election. However, on December
24, 1992 President Bush effectively ended the investigation by pardoning
Casper Weinberger and five others just before leaving office. The
Weinberger pardon marked the first time a President ever pardoned someone
in whose trial he might have been called as a witness, because the President
was knowledgeable of factual events underlying the case. Bush
wielded formidable power behind the scenes during the Reagan years through
appointments of his associates to critical positions, such as James Baker,
III as Reagan's chief of staff. Columnists Witcover and Germond
summed it up this way: "George Bush is playing possum, acting the
amenable helpmate to Reagan while insidiously planting his agents in key
positions in the administration -- especially in the White House -- and,
more recently, in the Republican National Committee." In
1988 George H. W. Bush soundly defeated Michael Dukakis for the presidency,
using vicious campaign tactics recommended by political strategist and
campaign manager, Lee Atwater. Assisting Atwater were Karl Rove
and George W. Bush. Atwater taught them the "go for the jugular"
style of campaigning they would use so successfully in campaign 2000. Now,
consider some of the activities Neil, Jeb, and George W. Bush got away
with by using Poppy's connections of power and influence.
Neil
was director of Silverado Banking, Savings and Loan in Denver. After the
S&L lent Bush and his partners over $200 million in loans for JNB
Exploration, Neil's unsuccessful oil company, Neil's partners welshed
on $132 million in loans, partly resulting in the failure of the S&L.
Federal regulators determined that Neil was completely dependent on his
partners for his income. The S&L's failure cost taxpayers $1 billion. Jeb
defaulted on a $4,56 million loan from Broward Federal Savings in Sunrise,
Florida. After federal regulators closed the S&L, the office building
that Jeb used the $4.56 million to finance was reappraised by the regulators
to $500,000, which Bush and his partners paid. Taxpayers were socked the
remaining $4 million tab. George
W. received favoritism in getting into the Texas Air National Guard and
then failed to complete his required service. The records were ordered
scrubbed to avoid controversy during campaign 2000. General James,
who helped accomplish this task, now has a cushy job as head of the National
Guard. Shrub
received financial backing for his first business venture, Arbusto Energy,
through James Bath, the sole U.S. business representative of Salem Bin
Laden, brother of Osama Bin Laden. Bath finally came under investigation
by the FBI in 1992 for his Saudi business relationships, accused of funneling
Saudi money through Houston in order to influence the foreign policies
of the Reagan and Poppy administrations. The
SEC found that George W. violated federal securities laws at least four
times when he was a director of Harken Energy Corporation, however no
charges were filed. At about the same time Bush unloaded his Harken
stock in 1990, he also sold nearly $700,000 worth of shares in four other
companies. His accountant, according to a March 1992 SEC memo to the file,
had been "bugging him to get liquid." About $600,000 of the
proceeds, the memo noted, went to pay off a bank loan he had taken a year
earlier for his minority stake in the Texas Rangers baseball team. In
1998 Bush’s trust sold that stake for $16 million, raising him to
the rank of multimillionaire. Taxpayers were stiffed for the money
to subsidize Bush and his investment partners. Shrub
was arrested for DUI in 1976, but fails to disclose this information until
forced to by the media just prior to Election Day 2000. Shrub
is suspected of lying under oath in a funeral home scandal deposition,
but will probably never be questioned about it since the suit was suddenly
settled. The
Bush family has close ties to the Rev. Sun Myung Moon of the Unification
Church and the owner of the Washington Times, which Poppy calls
his favorite newspaper. Part
of the Bush family money comes from Prescott Bush's financial alliance
with the Nazis. On October 20, 1942, the US Alien Property Custodian,
under the "Trading With the Enemy Act," seized the shares of the Union
Banking Corporation (UBC), of which Prescott Bush, Shrub's grandfather,
was a director and shareholder. Given
these illicit and outright illegal financial, political, and personal
dealings, how did Prescott later become a Republican Senator, George H.W.
become President, Jeb become a Governor, and Shrub become a Governor and
President? They did it through wealth, power, political influence,
and the stupidity of the American voters. Shrub
had an abominable record as Texas Governor, he screwed up the English
language at every turn, he refused to talk about his scandalous background,
and he fought dirty. Amazingly, with the help of dirty trickster
Karl Rove, iron-willed Karen Hughes, and a complicit media, Shrub was
in a dead heat with Al Gore going into Election Day. In
Florida, ole Jeb and Katherine "Cruella" Harris had prepared well.
They knew they had purged many voters from the roles who were not felons.
Harris knew just what to do! Delay, stall, and then use the letter
of the law to say that time had run out for the recounts. Bush operative
James Baker lied to the American people with a straight face when he said
the votes had counted, recounted, etc. There was never a single
recount completed. They sent a band of thugs to stop the recount
in Miami-Dade County, many of whom were Congressional staffers.
They went to court first and then lied by saying it was Gore who went
to court first. They fixed military ballots that arrived not completely
filled out. They had illegal military ballots included in the final
count, but told the American people Gore was trying to keep military ballots
from being counted. Not true, all Gore wanted was for the rules
to be followed. They attacked Gore for having only four predominantly
Democratic counties in his request for recounts, while they knew all along
that was within the Florida law. They ridiculed elderly voters in
Palm Beach County for making mistakes on their punch cards. They
followed their strategy laid out by Baker to stall, attack, and get it
to the Supreme Court. It worked. They had their buddies in
the Supreme Court with connections all over the place to the Bush family
and the Felonious Five handed the presidency to Bush on a silver platter. What
were the Bush voters thinking? How could they accept this spoiled
incompetent man? They said things like: "Okay, he's stupid,
but he's better than Al Gore!" Or "He seems like such good down-to-earth
man." Or "Gore will take away my guns." Or "Gore stands for
killing babies." Or "Gore is a liar." How ridiculous!
Look at the record of Bush family manipulation and corruption. Is
this indicative of a good family or a good man? No! Look at
who the true liar is. Look at where we are now as a nation as opposed
to where we were during the Clinton/Gore years. The
media was complicit in all of this, but that is a subject for another
day. As
for the Nader voters, your hero said that there was little difference
between Bush and Gore. What idiocy! Look where we are now! People
say, "Get over it!" I will some day. On the day that Hell
freezes over and when pigs fly! October
