Bush's America Simplified ... From Melting Pot to Rot Pot

MS. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON
by Shirley Smith

BuzzFlash,

I ask you, why is our government being allowed to do this and why would a responsible government do this? Food safety for godsake. Anybody who votes Republican ... is voting for debt, death, and destruction of everything this country was founded on. It's getting to the point where the average American is taking more of a risk in taking a drug or buying food than crossing a major boulevard in any city USA. The GOP are destroying everything.

Why would the House roll these food safety measures back? Well, we know those people in DC, our billionaire representatives, won't be eating any of the same foods that we Americans have to buy, and they get the best of everything. Do those people do anything for themselves that could relate to the common worker's lifestyle? I seriously doubt it.

House Rolls Back Food Safety Laws

On March 8, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 283 to 139, to eliminate well over a hundred different state food safety laws including Texas laws regulating milk and shellfish safety.

In addition to nullifying these proven food safety laws already on the books, the bill would forever tie the hands of states and municipalities on a range of emerging food safety issues, whether or not the federal government has addressed public health concerns.

Among other things, states and localities would not be able to regulate and label food products that contain irradiated ingredients, pesticides, antibiotics, or genetically modified organisms.

The legislation deprives states and localities of the right to protect their citizens while assigning responsibility for food safety to an under-funded federal bureaucracy.

“It’s shocking that in the days of mad cow disease and the bird flu, the food industry has asked its allies in Congress to put the kibosh on any state that dares to do more on food safety than

Again, there should be an award for somebody who could name "ONE" thing Bush has done that has been positive for the American people. Just one simple thing that has been beneficial, and I'm not talking about some two bits of the GOP's pocket change for gas. I think we need to curb the perks in DC. If our government wants to cut down ... start with the billionaires in this society who are supposed to work for us and really don't need the money. Do ya think we'd be any worse off if they just donated their time? Volunteered? How many would just cut and run, I wonder?

Just a thought,
