Re-zoning D.C.

MS. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON
by Shirley Smith

Politicians and pundits are afraid of what, when it comes to Feingold's censure proposal, I wonder?

Treason would be my preference; however, we can start with censure. Maybe it's a matter of their "comfort zone." And, as we have seen for the last five years, few in DC get out of that zone. They don't want to be bothered, I guess. They make good money. They have the best perks ... health insurance, travel expenses, retirement, donations for reelections, etc. Plus, they can vote without even reading the bills and never have to answer to their base out in the mother land. So why make a stand (fuss) when it's not comfortable for them to do so? Maybe most of them have been there so long, they have forgotten who they work for and why they work for them. How comfortable would term limits be, I wonder. Many people think that our government, in order to function, needs the old, been-in-there-for-years, minds for the newly elected to follow and be able to adequately run this government for the people.

Well, as it has been proven by the Bush GOP administration for the last five years ... the government and the American people would have been 100% better off without anyone working for our government. It couldn't be any worse (well, if the Bush GOP stay in, it certainly could be a hellava lot worse) in fact, I doubt any of the past would have happened if this government was at a standstill.

It took a real effort to give Americans the largest debt ever in our history. It took a real effort to lie to the American people over and over again, and invade another country to fulfill the personal greed of certain people belonging to the Bush political party. It took real effort to destroy a whole country based on the lies that it had something to do with 911, when bin Laden and Saddam were enemies, just so a few so-called leaders and their associates could profit from the death and destruction of other people's lives.

If that same effort had been used in running this country for the American people, instead of for themselves and their own personal vendettas and desires ... we wouldn't have over 2,000 dead military today. We wouldn't have well over ten thousand wounded American military today. We wouldn't have a leader who is responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent people in Iraq today, as well as those in Afghanistan and New Orleans. We wouldn't have a dysfunctional and destroyed by depleted-uranium Iraq, with no basic needs, even after three years, to sustain human life there, the theft of all of the rebuilding money, the start of a civil war and the home base for al Qaeda terrorists. We wouldn't have a ruined reputation and another nuclear race going on today because countries fear the US has become a rogue nation because of Bush's stated policy of preemptive strike ... and Bush is quite comfortable with that, however, he is never close to the war zones, himself ... that's too far out of his own comfort zone, I guess.

The Bush GOP may be comfortable with that, trading lives for riches. The members in Congress may be comfortable with that ... why don't they ask the American people, how comfortable we are with a treasonous Bush GOP who is hell-bent on destroying the very planet we live on and where American lives come cheap ... don'tcha think it's about time for a "re-zoning" in DC?
