A Done Deal Already ... Again a Monopoly

MS. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON
by Shirley Smith

This article ran on the sixth. On the ninth, I picked up my mail and my phone bill from Southwestern Bell was there, only it was in an envelope that said, [sic] "at&t. New company. Same great service. Welcome to the new AT&T. SBC/AT&T." Just last week, activists were asking Congress not to okay this buyout and the billing is already going to AT&T. For this to already be showing up in the billing ... usually means the done deal was done a while ago, doesn't it?

AT&T to Buy BellSouth for $67 Billion - Los Angeles Times

Why are the American people always the last to know, when everything that is done in DC with these corporations only affects us, the American people? We should have a say in this. What kind of future will we have when Americans have less than six choices for any products, goods, and services they have to purchase? It discourages new products. They never make the market. It stifles development. These companies aren't the only brains in this country. Far from it. Big is not always better. Look at what Wal-Mart has done to this country.

The government has gone to a lot of trouble to see that corporations are treated like people, when actually, in comparison, they are more like rubber mannequins pumped up with warm air. That's as close as they get to being humanized without government controls. Of course we do have people, who are like that, maybe that explains how the lack of controls happened to get passed in Congress.

It means we are not using all of our people and our resources for the best products at the best prices. Hell, is there anything made in America today? Anything at all? For instance, we have a South that is known for their cotton. Where does it go, I wonder? You don't find fine cotton garments very often anywhere. It's all plastic in some form or other or the cheaper grades of cotton mixed with something.

All the Republicans know how to do is run up the debt, start wars, and destroy democracy. That's Republican morality at work in government. Every corporation knows they have to get their act in before these GOP criminals get kicked out of DC, if we can have one election free of Republican fraud, that is.

More on how to become a third world country. With all disrespect, just ask a Republican, if you can find one who hasn't been arrested or indicted yet, or stop in at the White House, where they are getting away with murder.
