There Oughta Be a Law

MS. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON
by Shirley Smith

BuzzFlash, I'm standing in the lobby of a tire store, waiting while getting a flat tire fixed, with my back turned to a small waiting area with a blasting TV on that is hard to ignore. It's been my experience that every auto shop, I've ever been in, (not that many) always has Fox News on. But, I didn't have to turn around and see that it was Fox News. Aside from the fact that whoever is doing the talking, they all sound like they are on some kind of "pep pill," with a very fast pace and urgency about whatever was being discussed, but just catching a word here and there would tell a person that it was Fox News.

(Paraphrasing the jargon) They talked about the six week renewal of the Patriot Act "against terrorism." They had a Bush news tape on, and introduced him as giving them the "good news in Iraq." They had someone from New York criticizing the workers, without even discussing in depth, as to why the strike was going on. The details were more on the commuters and small business owners. Then they had a guest on, who talked about Canada and the fact that Canadians think they are better than Americans and they shouldn't treat the US with such disrespect. All of this while I was waiting at a counter in a tire store. I fully understand that a person could probably listen to Fox all day long and still never really know what is going on in our country or the world, which has been shown through a poll, as I remember. But, there is nothing entertaining about them anymore . . . the way they keep talking around and around their subjects . . . unless you happen to be a bored gerbil.

I couldn't think of sitting down and listening to such (in my words) unpatriotic crapola coming from a news station. Fox News has been called  "just entertainment" probably because they, along with other big guy media, are puppets whose strings are attached to the Bush GOP White House . . . but, the pace, the volume of half-truths, lies, propaganda pumped out into the world . . . it made me think of the blood pumping out of a cut artery and how quickly, such action can cause death . . . and, the same is true with democracy . . . the constant propaganda, lies and half-truths contribute to the death of democracy and they (Fox News) are complicit by aiding and abetting the treasonous actions of the Bush GOP administration.

It's repulsive to think that all of those people who work at Fox News could be considered as anti-democracy and anti-American . . . but, how can we think otherwise. Anyone who upholds this treasonous Bush GOP administration after what they have done to this country in five years . . . it should be considered a crime . . . and, yet, these people want to harass Americans about the theft of Christmas . . . when they are complicit with the theft of our democracy. That's real nerve, or so some might think, but Bush gets away with the same tactics all of the time because Bush has managed to not only commit the crimes, but drive the getaway vehicles when leaving the scene of the crimes, laughing, stay the course . . . and, the powers that are supposed to supply checks and balances to our government, look the other way.

And, this short extension of the Patriot Act, that seemed to please the GOP . . . well, I guess the busting of kneecaps isn't done anymore, but the Bush GOP administration only needs a few weeks of harassing and threatening members of congress to get their way . . . corruption breeds corruption. We shall see. O ye of little faith, that's me.

Since the media is part of the life and blood of this nation . . . there should be a law when media misuses their power and when they are known to be in the pocket of politicians, especially when it is a treasonous executive branch of US government and they helped with the lies that brought about the invasion of a bombed out country (Iraq), killing tens of thousands of innocent people. How can we call that free speech, when it's purpose is to influence and misinform Americans and they do this with a powerful business? It's no longer entertainment . . . it should be a crime and there oughta be a law.

Just a thought,

Thanks BuzzFlash,

Shirley Smith
