The Wizardry of War

MS. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON
by Shirley Smith

The Bush GOP's constant willingness to convince Americans that they are being victimized reminds me of years ago when the movie came out about the Grinch stealing Christmas. At that time, it was not only the name, but the symbol of Newt Gingrich, and I always associated him with that Grinch. Is it so odd that Gingrich's Bush GOP are trying to sell the American people on a trumped up war on Christmas? If anyone knows how to sell "being a victim," it's the Bush GOP administration.

Symbols have been used since the beginning of time. There are gobs of dictionaries of symbols used down through the ages, such as writings used with hieroglyphics as a way of communication. The Bush GOP use symbolic logic to assist them with their propositions and it also helps them in their reasoning, and they are easy for the public to identify and remember. If they decide that there is a war on the symbols of Easter, I guess the eggs and the rabbits will be at fault.

At first, it was the war in retaliation for 911, and they have used "terrorism" as their symbol for everything they have done to the people in Afghanistan, Iraq and here in America. The Bush GOP have also used the symbol of "time," in their haste, and we have learned that the haste of the Bush GOP has created much waste. The Patriot Act was pushed through in haste, no one even bothered to read it. Giving Bush authority to do whatever he wanted to do to Iraq was given in haste and the war against Iraq was based on the symbols of WMD and the fear of what they represent.

Resolved, That the House of Representatives--
(1) recognizes the importance of the symbols and traditions of Christmas;
(2) strongly disapproves of attempts to ban references to Christmas; and
(3) expresses support for the use of these symbols and traditions.

Facing South: GOP rises to the defense of candy canes

The war on Christmas was also planned because Fox News's Gibson bothered to write a book about it. Legislators are so worried about their imagined war on the symbols of Christmas that they bring it up in our government, which tells me they have way too much time on their hands and who is carrying on the real business of US government for the people.

These same people who are supposed to protect Americans, who voted to invade Iraq, who passed the bankruptcy bill, who voted to give to the rich and take from the poor ... want to save candy canes, Santa Claus, and the colors red and green ... no disrespect to these pixilated members of congress, but they have completely missed the real war on symbols ... if they want to find another war.

We don't see any symbols from our government regarding our dead military coming home every day. Young people, dead or wounded before they have even lived ... giving their all to their country because of the lies by a treasonous Bush GOP administration. We don't see any symbols or numbers regarding all of the tens of thousands who have died in Iraq. Children, dead or wounded for life. We don't see the symbol of debt, death and destruction and we don't hear any of the Bush GOP members in Congress calling for the constant mentioning and reverence paid to these three "D's."

It's all about symbolic language. The preemptive war in Iraq. The preemptive war on Xmas. The preemptive shoot-first-and-ask-questions-later war on the citizens of Florida and they are trying for Texas. Both Bush GOP states. Yes, we do have a problem with symbols. They are used by the Bush GOP, because it's harder for people to argue against symbols or signs, and it's easier for the Bush GOP to change their language when explaining their symbolic logic. How many changes have we heard from Bush regarding Iraq and their WMD? I lost count.

However, we can put an end to these senseless wars by declaring war on yet another symbol, the one that is responsible for all of these wars ... the Bush GOP elephant ... add him to the endangered species list. Impeachment would be the beginning of the end of these wars. People who are concerned and want to put Christ back into Christmas ... well, that would be one way of doing it.

Just a thought,
