When Dirty Tricks Become Detonators

MS. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON
by Shirley Smith

When looking back to the year 2000 and considering what has happened since, two quotes come to mind:

An election is a moral horror, as bad as a battle except for the blood; a mud bath for every soul concerned in it. -- G.B. Shaw, Back to Methuselah, 1921

I wonder what G.B. Shaw would think today. We have a president in office who was not elected, and this White House has been killing people for no reason ever since. The Congress was taunted (my thoughts -- because they were afraid of looking weak; however, George Bush and his GOP administration are the weakest of them all) into giving the "authority" for Bush and his administration to go ahead and pursue war using their own judgment.

Tens of thousands of deaths later, including over 2,000 Americans and over 15,000 Americans who are wounded -- if those figures are correct -- we can't depend on the Bush GOP administration to tell the truth about anything, especially the invasion of Iraq --  we have military going back and forth. No doubt as to what kind of battle fatigue that would bring on a person, to be able to go home and then have to keep going back to Iraq and to fight an invisible enemy. All of this has weakened this country tremendously. Morally. Financially. Spiritually. And, we have no one running the government.

Everything that has happened since the year 2000, was detonated by the fraud and dirty tricks found in our elections. Americans have to reconsider what kind of crime vote fraud is when it leads to death and destruction. Most fraud -- if the person or persons are found out -- they probably get what is referred to as "discount justice," if there is any justice at all. And, we haven't seen any justice. Florida started the downfall of this Nation that has been fostered by the GOP for the last 30 years.

Every week another crime. The latest report this week was about the use of chemical weapons in Fallujah where white phosphorus was used, and we heard arguments about the correct name or category for white phosphorus. Like it matters. It burns. It can burn down to the bone. It can kill. What possible reason could the US have for using that in Iraq?

It was an illegal war, and we know it was built around lies, so, what in the hell are we still doing in Iraq? There were no WMD other than the ones being used by the Bush GOP military, and Saddam is in lock up. We have no business killing just to be killing.  Life under the Bush GOP administration is very cheap. Very cheap. And, all of this because of a crooked, fraudulent election filled with dirty tricks. What did all of those people get for their crimes -- and, these are crimes. The blood that has been shed since the year 2000 is also on the hands of every one of those people who helped with such treasonous acts towards the heart of US Democracy ... the vote.

If Americans (the people) are to be the power of our own Democracy, then we Americans need to look at fraud and dirty tricks as high crimes. They should be punished, not rewarded, such as those in Florida. And, because they were not punished and because Bush was allowed to stay in office, even though it was proved to be a very fraudulent election, 2004 came along and guess what ... more fraud, more dirty tricks, in Ohio and across the nation. I see these as acts against Democracy and because of what they have triggered, they are complicit with the treason that has been committed since those elections. If a person is not a patriot ... what are they? These crimes were not committed by patriots.

Below are accounts of fraud in the state of Washington.

Democrats, who said that Sotelo's wrong challenges actually numbered in the hundreds, saw her error-riddled "Voter Registration Integrity Project" as evidence of attempted vote suppression. Republicans, in response, stood by their overall effort, saying the bulk of Sotelo's challenges were correct, not to mention necessary, at least from the Republican perspective, in order to keep the King County Elections department honest about enforcing the rules on voter-registration addresses.

We in the US are more likely to send a young teenager to jail for life for a crime, when that teenager should be rehabilitated instead. How many of us can say we are the same person as we were at the age of 15? People fear crime ... and they should fear these elections more because they are responsible for a hellava lot more death and destruction to this Country than any teenager can commit, and, so far, no one is in jail for those tens of thousands of deaths.

I'm going to guess that in reality, most Americans don't really know what real fear is. They fear the unknown. Ask someone in Afghanistan, who probably never, ever saw or knew Osama bin Laden, ask them about fear ... they had ten years of war and then the US attacked again. Ask anyone living in Iraq about fear. They had ten years of bombing from the US after another bogus war by Poppy Bush, and now, Bush the pseudo War President, is over there with our military killing daily, and no one can tell us why. One thing we know is that Bush never won either election, and he should be out of power just for that, and if not that, he should be impeached for several crimes committed while serving in the White House. At the very least, he should be relieved of any and all duties. And, if he insists on acting as a president, the Congress should bring all government to a halt.

If the vote is to be the power of the people, and it should be, then any fraud, dirty tricks, crimes and misdemeanors committed before, during and after an election, should be given a high crimes type of punishment. Would we have all of this death and destruction if the election in the year 2000 would have been corrected and those people punished in Florida? No. I can safely say, if Gore was in the White House, we would not be at war and I don't believe 911 would have happened either. Even that might have been avoided, because Bush and his administration had a month of warnings and kept it a secret from the American people ... and did nothing for the public. That, also, was a crime that has gone unpunished.

We have allowed people to tromp all over our voting system, and they are still doing it. Does every American have to lose a member of their family before people want to rid this Nation of these imperialistic criminalists who are in the Bush GOP administration?

How important our vote is in this Country, and the power of the people behind that vote, is up to the people. Up to all Americans ... those who believe in a Democracy.

Let us never forget that government is ourselves, and not an alien power over us. The ultimate rulers of our democracy are not a President and senators and congressmen and government officials, but the voters of this country. -- Franklin D. Roosevelt, speech, Marietta, Ohio, July 8, 1938

FDR speaking in Ohio ...  have we come a long way or not? We need to recognize the importance of our votes and our elections and those who commit the fraud and dirty tricks should have to pay a high price because of their actions. And, those voting machines that keep committing errors. Smash them.

Communities should buy them at their own peril, because if they are destroying votes, then they should also be destroyed. We destroy sick animals who prey on people ... why not machines? I guarantee you, if that were the case, few people would want to take a chance on those machines. Americans have had to pay too high a price for these past elections rife with fraud and dirty tricks ... they've given us a weak government, that has cost Americans in death and destruction. And, we need to collect for that.
