The Butterfly or "Preying" Mantis Effect in Politics

MS. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON
by Shirley Smith

First of all, the butterfly and the praying mantis are the good guys in the garden of nature. Butterflies are a sign of beauty, innocence, and renewal that is found in nature, but when explained in Science, it has been said that (paraphrasing) the mere flapping of a butterfly wing can bring about such chaotic changes in the atmosphere that they would be impossible to predict over the long term . . . but, if the butterfly effect were to be used in politics and government . . . long-term effects can be predicted. Crime or criminal behavior can be predicted, even by laymen. If it's not stopped . . . it will always continue and escalate.

Today, the chaos in the Bush GOP administration is the direct effect of a long-term faction of the Republican Party that has been diligently planting the seeds during the last thirty years throughout our government that have resulted in today's shell of a US democracy and government that is crammed full of criminal hypocrisy. A combination of laxity of controls in our media and corporations; the refusal to punish past criminal actions found in government; the amount of power given away to just one branch of US government, the Executive Branch, without proper balance of control by Congress, and an obvious partisan Supreme Court . . . those are just some of the effects that could have been predicted by honest experienced government officials . . . if anyone would have listened.

But, the "preying" mantis effect in government is something much darker, in my opinion, because of the long-term effects, and it's up to the Democrats to purge the Democratic Party of these individuals. These are people who run on a Democratic platform and then support the Republican platform most of the time. We will usually find these people in what are called "the Red States" . . . states that are primarily represented by Republicans. Even without a majority, these people insure the power for the GOP because they are taking up space that should belong to a real Democrat. Naturally, the GOP would support such a candidate. These GOP favored reactions by such candidates only serve to eventually rot the Democratic Party from the inside out . . . until it's dead or unable to be revived.

I'm not saying that these candidates set out to do this to the Democratic Party on purpose, but they are thinking only of their survival in politics. Instead of wooing the Democrats in their states, they woo the Republicans because the Republicans are just crafty and criminal enough to understand the long-term effects of these type of Democratic candidates in office.

As an example of this, two candidates come to my mind (however, there are more) who have used their votes to "prey" on the people they are supposed to represent, as well as the Democratic Party as a whole . . . Landrieu of Louisiana and Nelson from Nebraska. They came to my attention because their names are almost always on the GOP voting list of yeas or nays.

I read about and witnessed the murderous fiasco that happened in New Orleans, and how Landrieu seemed to be very upset. I then assumed that some of her distraught might be because she had voted for the bankruptcy bill just weeks prior to this devastation in the South. So, I thought, after seeing how the Bush GOP took care of her people, those poor people she is supposed to represent . . . that surely she would not be voting for the $36 billion spending cuts directed at poor people so that the Bush GOP can continue to use their money in war, in order to kill more poor people instead.

But, I was wrong. The two Democratic votes for this bill came from Landrieu and Nelson. I can also add their votes for the destruction of the Alaskan refuge and their support for the GOP in this bill . . .

A bill to prohibit civil liability actions from being brought or continued against manufacturers, distributors, dealers, or importers of firearms or ammunition for damages, injunctive or other relief resulting from the misuse of their products by others.

These type of Democrats are preying on the Democratic Party for the GOP, and especially the treasonous Bush GOP. There are Democrats in these so-called Red States (we are not separated as this criminal Bush GOP administration wants Americans to think, we are all Americans) and they (Democrats) are without any representation from these candidates, except in party name only. So, the Democrats who are represented by candidates such as Landrieu and Nelson, either have to vote for a Democrat that they probably know is not a real Democrat or they have to vote Republican, or their only other choice, is that they just won't vote at all.

At least the Bush GOP members of Congress don't pretend to represent all Americans . . . they have been very blatant about being complicit with this treasonous Bush GOP administration. Evidently, they are not afraid of having to suffer any repercussions due to supporting this anti-American regime . . . even though polls show that Americans are fed up with the Iraqi invasion and the treasonous GOP warring president and his vacuous and vagrant-filled administration.

I don't know if candidates such as these two that I've mentioned, get money from the Democratic party for their campaigns, but they should receive no such support. Not one red cent. These seats need to be filled by "real" Democrats that adhere to the platform of the Democratic Party. The praying mantis is a good guy . . . these political "preying mantises" only do harm to the Democrats and to those people they are supposed to represent and work for . . . and, then don't.

How many Republicans can we put into this category, even with a treasonous Bush GOP administration? Very few. Any Democrat who supports this treasonous administration is not a Democrat, they only use the Democratic Party, their money, and when it comes time to react as a Democrat, they turn on the Party and they kill us . . . they are part of the reason for Democrats who have quit voting. These Democrats use the excuse of "not being seen as strong leaders," even when the American people are at a 70 percent figure of being against this Bush GOP administration.

In politics, the "preying mantis effect" only looks like the good guy. The warning, again, a prediction that some in the Democratic Party have issued to these type of Democrats by warning them not to become the preying mantis because there will be repercussions such as those shown in the race of Mayor Randy Kelly of St. Paul, Minn. who supported Bush in 2004, even campaigned for him. He's having trouble . . . as will many other Democrats, who, for some undemocratic reason have supported this treasonous and criminal Bush GOP administration and continue to show support today . . . even though, many candidates have not been elected for the past ten years or more, when they ran as mirror images of the GOP . . . when, instead, it worked for the Republican candidate, and the Democratic Party kept losing seats in Congress. These losses should have been predicted easily after that many years. Now, we have a treasonous Bush GOP administration, and some Democrats still refuse to distance themselves from these people or from those predictions.

The distance between DC and the American people seems as far as the distance from the planet Pluto to the planet Earth when it comes to communication. Candidates and their political advisors who refuse to accept these obvious patterns, will still wonder why they will lose . . . don't wonder, don't waste your time . . . just read the latest polls . . . then make your own predictions.
