Suppressing Voter Registration ... and Other Insults to The American Way

MS. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON
by Shirley Smith

It gets "Dizzy" out here in the motherland fighting the actions of this "anti-American Bush GOP" administration and their GOP members of Congress who obviously can't think for themselves or think more of themselves than of what is best for this Country . . . which just happens to be the reason for their present jobs.

This letter today from "People for the American Way," has five action items that the GOP is trying to get away with in Congress. Below, is just one of them and we have seen how the Bush GOP have used the nonprofit Christian Coalition churches for their own political benefit, especially in fighting public education (trying to ruin it) . . . but when it comes to doing something for all Americans, they try to suppress it and here they are trying to suppress voter registration, which, if the Diebold machines are ever thrown out, we will see vote boxes disappearing and all kinds of new and more inventive, crooked shenanigans because unlike the headlines yesterday, "Bush couldn't win an election today," or something like that . . . Bush hasn't won any election . . . period. Two things, we will never hear Bush do anything about -- vote fraud and the killing of innocent people.

There's proof of so much fraud and still Americans just stay in denial. Democrats could point out that these bills are against American Democracy . . . why can't they get a microphone and a camera and speak out every single day? Because the crime in this Bush GOP is worse than all of the Crime families in the US, working together . . . and they are in our government for god's sake!

House Attempt to Suppress Voter Registration Efforts (People for the American Way)

In the next few days, some Republicans in the House will attempt to pass legislation aimed at suppressing non-profit organizations' efforts to register voters. This dangerous and chilling anti-advocacy provision will be added to a much-needed bill concerning low-income housing, the Federal Housing Finance Reform Act (HR 1461).

This provision penalizes non-profits that engage in voter registration or get out the vote activities, by disqualifying them from receiving grants from a new Affordable Housing Fund. It even goes so far as to deny this funding to non-profits that merely have affiliation with an organization that participates in election activities.

This attempt to limit non-partisan activities to increase voter participation in our country, especially among low-income Americans and other historically disenfranchised communities, is appalling, unpatriotic and likely unconstitutional.

Remember, it was only a few weeks ago, when the Bush GOP ran a bill through Congress allowing these church schools to hire only people who believed in what they were selling in their schools. And, most of it is their religion. Did we hear anything out of DC?

We either need people in government who will speak out, or we need a very big microphone. These are crimes against our Bill of Rights and abuse to people who just don't have a clue, and these people need protection from the Bush GOP administration. Nothing new there.

We have already had reports of some of the unlawful ways that Republicans have tried to keep people from voting . . . letters telling them they were not registered, people listed as felons, long lines, crooked software . . . these tactics and the above bill gets to the heart of the rottenness of this Bush GOP trying to constantly strangle the very life out of this country, if they haven't succeeded in killing enough people on their illegal battle grounds.   Do these people ever get punished for this, or do they just get their hands slapped? Well, actually, they get elected to Congress (Katherine Harris). If our voting is to be important for every American . . . the use of "dirty tricks" would not be so funny, if there were heavy fines handed out and people lost their jobs automatically. It's just more dirty tricks as usual to try and control votes through legislation in Congress.

Every single day since the Bush GOP have been in the White House and since the Bush GOP have had the majority in the House and the Senate, they feed information to the Democrats . . . if the Democrats would only use it.

Americans aren't known to be "readers," even those who refer to themselves as "independents" . . . they are only known to be "headline readers," and yet they wonder why they have so much trouble making up their own minds. My point is, that the Democrats have enough information daily, and all they need to do would be to have a separate channel of news . . . 24 hours, explaining these constant abuses to the American people and explaining what the GOP have done to enhance their own agenda and Party. Explain these constant legislative abuses brought about by the Bush GOP and their followers in Congress.

However, even after all of that, if we had a News Channel, the opposite of FOX the No News Channel, people would still feel that if our Democratic leaders haven't been speaking out . . . it can't be too serious or wrong.

It's appalling to read the constant abuse of Americans that favors the Bush GOP administration and their friends. They could take all of the bills passed in Congress by the Bush GOP, since they've been in government, and burn them . . . that's how much they do for this country. They would never be missed, except for the added coin in every American's pocket.

I guess if one has a heart for this country, being a politician must be the hardest job in the world, because, I don't understand how anyone could be friendly to any member of Congress who represents and votes with this Bush GOP today. A vote for constant Death and Destruction. In my mind, they all should have a skull and crossbones painted on their back. Because of their support, they are all complicit in the actions of this treasonous Bush GOP Administration and it's legitimacy.

They certainly aren't the heroes and patriots of yesterday.
