A Simple Minded, Southern Sermon from the Senate . . .

MS. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON
by Shirley Smith

It seems lately that religious sanctimonious arrogance is alive and doing very well in the US. We have an abundance of bovinity and dull-wittedness coming out of the mouths of the GOP, who seem to think that to win a seat in Congress today, a person needs to speak out against fellow Americans on prejudicial social issues that will please their prejudicial base, instead of what it takes to make good government for all. To the Religious Right, enjoying life too much is a sin, the leaders of that cult, teach enjoyment in death. The gift of life is refused and they wait for death. Join the US military. They need you.

Why do people like Senator Hank Erwin get elected? Either by catering to the same evangelical astringent religiosity that thrives in the GOP Christian Coalition -- or Diebold.

A Senator who can take the tragedies suffered by the people in New Orleans and the additional suffering that was caused by a very ineffective and callous Bush GOP government and tell the people that they suffered because of Senator Erwin's God . . . Senator Erwin, the world is better informed than you are because it wasn't your God that punished the people in New Orleans, it was your Bush GOP administration and those followers such as yourself, that killed the city of New Orleans . . . that, Senator was the real sin . . . it was an easy killing, too, because of the lack of funds held back by Bush for the levees and the shameful neglect in the rescue efforts by FEMA, because people lost their lives when they should have lived through that tragedy. It was a slow, cold blooded murder that we witnessed on TV. We (the world) know because we were there. The whole world knows what happened, how it happened, and why it happened to the people in New Orleans.

When a Senator spews such nonsense about the supernatural, it can only be for the same reasons the Bush GOP administration bows to the Christian Coalition of the Right Wing of the Republican Party and that is to keep their support (suck up) . . . money and votes. And, of course, Senator Erwin's vacuous statement is meant to take the "Buck of responsibility" away from Bush (just another suck up) who never takes responsibility, and yet, he gets all kinds of perks, protection, and 400,000 dollars a year in salary, not counting his tax refunds. I think the US citizens should demand our money back.

If we could find one leader in the whole Bush GOP today . . . it would be a rare find, like a rare coin. Anyone in the GOP who feels they should care about all of America instead of just catering to the few whose hands are raised and always full of bills . . . if they exist, they must be part of the silent majority. The worst leadership in the history of this Country by the Bush GOP. Now, that's quite an achievement.

Well, I think, if you look at what‘s going on, this whole region has always known that, with the church, that New Orleans and the Gulf Coast are known for sin.

And if you go to a church and you read your Bible, you are always told avoid sin and that there‘s judgment for sin.  And I just think that, in my analysis—and I can‘t speak for everybody, but I believe that, if you look at the factors, that you had a city that was known for sin—the signature of New Orleans is the French Quarter, Bourbon Street.  It is known for sin.  And you have a Bible that says God will judge sin, you can put two and two together and say, it may not be the judgment of God, but it sure looks like the footprint.

So, I just told my friends, in an opinion, I think it could be the judgment of God on the Gulf Coast and on New Orleans.  And I would urge the good folks that are the innocent victims to rally and rebuild that city and get a new signature.  -- Hank Erwin, 9/29/05, Scarborough Country/MSNBC
