Republican Rules of Their Games . . . Less Rules, More Rulers

MS. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON
by Shirley Smith

BuzzFlash,

There is no question how the Republicans feel about ethics when they try to adopt legislation to stop investigations on ethics, and then see that they are dismissed after 45 days if the committee was deadlocked. Wouldn't our common criminals, serving time in our prisons, love these rules? Why shouldn't our government employees be held to a higher accountability than a first time offending purse thief?

The House passed this ethics legislation to protect the very person (DeLay) who sorta, kinda, might be investigated, except we can't be sure, because crime pays in the GOP Bush administration and it never pays with jail time. Cash only.

The Republican Party wonders why they have no credibility. Or do they wonder, really? And now they are worried about their Party image? The image of the Republican Party was smeared when Bush was placed into the White House in 2000 and it has just been getting grimier ever since. Republicans took their chance to rule this Nation and that's exactly what this Nation got in return . . . less rules and more rulers.

Report: House Leaders to Reverse Ethics Rule

The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the package was certain to include a reversal of the rule that would automatically dismiss an ethics complaint after 45 days if the committee is deadlocked, according to the report.

A House Republican aide told the newspaper the automatic-dismissal rule was "the rule that is most commonly believed to be designed to protect Tom DeLay" and that it was "impossible to win the communications battle" on it.

I think it's time to call the game off and penalize the players and those referees who turned a blind eye. The reason we have so much criminal activity in our government today is because none of them are ever prosecuted and sentenced. Jail time is a deferment to white collar crime . . . at least, we could find out for sure by bringing accountability back to our government.

Just a thought,

Shirley Smith
