Controversial John Bolton Vows To "Work With All" At U.N.

This claim by the ambassador
To the U.N. nominee
Recalls a favorite moment
In the history of D.C.

Bush Sr. thought John Tower
Would be a perfectly fine
Defense Secretary choice
Back in 1989.

But Tower’s virtue Democrats
Weren’t able to extol
Because his alcoholism
Was clearly out of control.

Then the Texan Senator
Changed his way of thinking
And said if he got the gig
He’d promise to quit drinking.

One reason I love Republicans
Is 47 of them did agree
That a life-long boozer should
Be head of the DOD.

Tower didn’t get enough votes
Those charges seemed to stick
(Unfortunately, the guy who did
Was that Cheney fellow named Dick.)

The GOP’s in charge now
Bolton doesn’t drink like Tower
He is, however, the kinda guy
Who does get drunk with power.
