Divided We Stand

by Tony Peyser

Lately more than a few people
Have looked around to find
That a little too many things
Are getting way too intertwined.

You, like me, may strongly hope
That The White House soon ceases
Sending taped propaganda out
Dressed up as press releases.

It also seems a sure way to
Be headed right for disaster
When Tom Delay’s ex-chief of staff
Also happened to be his pastor.

(I don’t mind anyone’s beliefs
But when it comes to church and state
I’m kinda old school and don’t think
They should be served on the same plate.)

With all of this co-mingling
Is a sense of impropriety
Which is why we now suffer from
Lack of separation anxiety.
