Secret Payments to Conservative Pundit Were Legitimate

Armstrong Williams got
Two hundred forty grand
To promote programs
The White House planned.

He admits this was something
Many were deceived in
But only did it because
It’s a cause he believed in.

I am backing Williams
And No Child Left Behind
A better man and plan
I doubt you will find.

I love George Bush
I hate John Kerry
Do I sound right-wing?
You bet ... very!

(This is all untrue ---
My shameless bid
To get money like
Mr. Williams did.

Being bribed to lie
Is my new mission
And this poem is
My audition.

If this ploy works,
I’ll be free as a bird
But until then ...
Mum's the word.)
