Bush's HHS Nominee Expected to Make Big Cuts to People Most at Risk

by Tony Peyser

The reason folks (including me)
Are feeling a tad nervous is
We’re not crazy about Michael Leavitt
For Health and Human Services.

Moral values are often revealed
When politicians choose to ignore
Helping out the disabled,
The needy and the poor.

I doubt Leavitt will assist them
(And this is hardly a scoop)
Partly because of what he’s learned
At his family’s insurance group.

Insurance companies are set up
On ground rules rather greedy
Which don’t care much about
The poor, disabled and needy.

So, how come there’s not enough bucks
For the needy, disabled and poor?
Largely because Bush insisted on
Starting this unnecessary war.

But if our troops weren’t overseas
I’d make an educated guess
That the Bushies would still be up for
The down and out getting less.

Bush hailed Leavitt’s “compassion”
Which causes me to declare ---
That’s like claiming Bernie Kerik
Has a very full head of hair.
