Dear BuzzFlash, The pictures of Mr. Bush lecturing his minions in front of Mt. Rushmore illustrate one feature of American life today of which I am particularly ashamed: the presence of Mr. Bush among the 43 men who have been president of the United States. Presidents, with few exceptions, have been exceptional men; men of honor, intellect, and leadership. Even some of those whose tenure was tainted by scandal, such as President Nixon, had exceptional and partially redeeming qualities. In the twentieth century, it is fair to say that all of the American presidents were men who earned the presidency and were able to perform their role as leader of the democratic world with competence. And then there is Mr. Bush the younger, the inarticulate spawn of arrogant privilege, contemptuous of wisdom, manipulative enabler for the most greedy, aggressive, and fanatical in our society. With a background in corporate malfeasance, alcohol and drug abuse, and avoidance of military service and other responsibility, but with an ability to capitalize on his family name, this man was placed in the presidency by the closest that this country has come to a coup d'etat. His very mediocrity was his strength, in the minds of the cabal that engineered his ascendancy, and who heavily influence his decision making. Abandoning his campaign promises of being a "compassionate conservative" and a "uniter, not a divider," from his first day in office Mr. Bush sought to force policy changes that would enrich his corporate cronies and promote his narrow religious view, without regard to the general welfare. The negative consequences of Mr. Bush's policies include economic collapse in this country, and death and misery abroad. While pushing his agenda of tax cuts for the rich, he ignored the nuts-and-bolts issues, such as counter-terrorism, leading to catastrophe. Despite the widespread sympathy and solidarity with America following the September 11 terrorist attacks, Mr. Bush is hated, feared, and ridiculed around the world due to his odious decisions and execrable performance in foreign policy. Using secrecy and self-appointed dictatorial powers, he has prevented investigations that would potentially expose his failures and his crimes. Using aspersions of lack of patriotism, he has sought to stifle dissenting voices in the media and elsewhere. Using shameless propaganda tactics such as his "economic forum," and by attempting to shift blame onto others, he has sought to manipulate the opinions of a public that has been deeply wounded by his presidency. To have this man counted among the presidents of the United States is a disgrace that will embarrass and demean this nation for the rest of time. Steve
W. Dear BuzzFlash, This nearly made me piss my pants laughing:
Linda Kekumu Dear BuzzFlash, NON-CONFORMIST HOST FIRED FROM WABC RADIO IN NEW YORK Monday August 19, 2002 Lynn Samuels was virtually the sole voice of leftist political opinion on WABC 77 (am) radio in New York. She was fired from the station on August 15th under the premise of "budget cuts", to be replaced by show hosts who will instead offer non-challenging content. WABC is the flagship station of the Disney media empire and its programming is filled with conservative, right wing hosts such as Rush Limbaugh. The station can be heard over a wide area of the northeast and also on the Internet. Her firing is a terrible blow to freedom of speech as it essentially eliminates the small amount of balanced discussion and political dissension that was previously tolerated in this important mainstream media outlet. Rebfile.com urges you to protest this action and demand that Lynn Samuels be reinstated in the interest of fair and balanced representation, and WABC's fiduciary responsibility to the community. Tale action to defend freedom of speech: 1. Send email urging that Lynn Samuels be put back on the air immediately to: WABC Program Director: Phil Boyce phil.boyce@abc.com. 2. Leave a message for Disney head, Michael Eisner at 818 560-5151. A BuzzFlash Reader Dear BuzzFlash, I think Suze Orman owes President Clinton an apology. Call your public television station and tell them that. Why do I say that? Suze had a seminar, advertising her book and tapes, "The Road to Wealth," in July 2001, which was recorded for public television, in which she was encouraging everyone to talk more about money. She went on to say, "We talk more about sex than money - thank you ex-president Clinton." She got a few laughs. Well, Suze, if you talk about sex a lot, that is not President Clinton's fault. By the way, Suze, if it were not for President Clinton, you would not have so much money, which appears to be your true love. So maybe you owe him an apology and a thank you at the same time. a BuzzFlash reader Dear BuzzFlash, It occurred to me that the media is making a big deal out of hauling the Worldcom executives away in handcuffs, but I think Americans should feel that their intelligence is being insulted. Nobody has arrested a single Enron executive and the Bush administration is probably laughing at Americans, thinking that we were thrown a little bone over the Worldcom thing, and that we will just go away. It's just a distraction. Bush owed Enron a favor because of the incredible money Enron had given to Bush (by the way, Paul Wellstone was one of the Senators who refused money from Enron and Senator Clinton threw it back in Enron's face too -- Ashcroft accepted money from Enron -- just thought I'd tell you). I would bet anything that Ken Lay (Bush's faithful friend), of Enron, wrote our energy policy. The Iraq attack is just a smokescreen to get us to quit thinking about Enron and questioning why no executives have been jailed. Bush doesn't mind sacrificing your sons and daughters in order to get our minds off of his Harken mess and Cheney's Halliburton mess. If you think I am kidding, then why did Cheney himself advise Bush that it was a bad idea to shoot down a plane of civilians when Bush indicated he was willing to do that? If that makes you mad, just remember that Cheney said that on prime TV, right after 9 1 1. a BuzzFlash reader Subj: A Reader Request, or: A Little Respect for Mr. O'Dowd Dear BuzzFlash, First, let me say that I am a big fan of your site -- I love what you do, and only poverty & semi-unemployment prevent me from being a financial supporter in addition to a daily reader. So the following request should be considered as respectful and friendly reader feedback. Here's my request: Could you please, please stop referring to the Smirking Chimp as "Boy George"? I have three reasons for making this request: 1. To many gay readers of the New Wave generation, like myself, the *real* Boy George (George O'Dowd of Culture Club) is a genuine hero, and it's unfairly insulting for him to be mixed up with the Commander-in-Thief. 2. It's confusing. 3. There are so many *better* and more effective nicknames for G.W. Bush. Let me now address each of these points in slightly more detail: I realize that to many of my heterosexual friends, Boy George O'Dowd isn't a respected figure -- to the mainstream he and his music are considered ridiculous, an embarrassment from the 80s to be mocked and derided. But to a generation of GLBT kids who were in high school in the early part of that decade, he was and is a real hero, someone who helped us get through the school day by showing us that it was possible to be true to yourself, be who you are and be tremendously successful while breaking down the narrow, restrictive gender roles that ultimately oppress all of us. Remember, these were the days before even Elton John was out as gay, before k.d. lang, Melissa Etheridge and Jimmy Sommerville, before even Morrissey was on the scene. To see Boy George being interviewed on TV was electrifying, gave us all courage to go to school and face the homophobia of the other kids, and often our teachers and parents as well. Granted, in those days, Boy George himself wasn't out as "gay" just yet -- but his very appearance, style and comportment were a direct challenge to conventional notions of gender and sexuality, and every one of us was capable of reading between those lines. He defiantly crossed a line that other pop stars had only tiptoed along. Some of my straight friends do understand this. Others don't -- and even among my gay friends, some were too old when Boy George came along and found the whole New Wave scene ridiculous; others are too young to remember a time when what he did might seem courageous. But for my generation -- call us the class of 1984 -- Boy George O'Dowd will always have a special place in our hearts. For this reason, it's annoying and kind of painful to see his name usurped and ascribed to a man who is currently, in my opinion, one of the greatest political villains in the history of the American republic. I also think it's a bad idea to call GWB "Boy George" because it muddies the message -- it's unclear and confusing because many people, like myself, will think you're actually talking about the real Boy George. Again, I know that many people pay no attention to Boy George and Culture Club and think of him as nothing but a distant and obscure memory from two decades ago. But lots of people my age *do* still buy Culture Club CDs, go to see the band on tour, and yes, read news stories and interviews about and with Mr. O'Dowd. He's got an active career as a DJ and has written a book and a musical. Every week I go dancing at a New Wave Club night where people rush onto the floor to dance to Culture Club songs. My point: For those of us who still pay attention to Boy George O'Dowd, it's very possible to visit BuzzFlash, read your links referring to "Boy George," and think you're talking about the real one. In my early days of BuzzFlash readership, this happened to me several times until I finally figured out it was one of your regular nicknames for Not-the-President. But every once in a while I still forget for a minute, and have to remind myself that it wasn't actually the man who sang "Karma Chameleon" who just said something inane on TV. Finally: "Boy George," in addition to being kind of a weak nickname, doesn't really say a whole lot about GWB. The fact is, there are dozens of funnier, more effective aliases for the current Oval Occupant. Many of these you already know and use: Smirking Chimp, Commander-in-Thief, pResident. And if you ever think those are getting tired, there are plenty more where they came from (including my personal favorites, "I Can't Believe It's Not a President" and "NutraBush: The Artificial President"). All of those will get your point across with more bang for the buck, and without defiling the name of the the world's first and most fabulous drag queen slash pop star. You don't really want to hurt him, do you? After all, he's on your side, and so are the vast majority of his fans, like me. Thanks for listening, and keep up the good work. best, A BuzzFlash Reader Dear BuzzFlash, Mike Vreeland was sitting in a Canadian jail one month before 9-11 when he gave his captors a handwritten note predicting the attack on the World Trade Center. He was found shot in the back of the head last week. His death certificate is posted at www.copvcia.com go to the forum section then to category of government corruption. See extensive articles written by ruppert in his interviews with Mike Vreeland. joe b Dear Buzz: I guess you heard over the weekend the role of the US under Reagan. We provided Iraq with intelligence information on troop and civilian locations and then gave this information to Iraq KNOWING they were going to use chemicals and other weapons of mass destruction against them. No wonder the Arab world hates us. We are two-faced and hypocrites. J.
Crowley Dear BuzzFlash, I sent the following letter to the Democratic senators in reaction to: http://www.latimes.com/templates/misc/printstory.jsp?slug=la%2Doe%2Dturley14aug14 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NO concentration camps for Americans! Dear Senator, Popularity isn't everything. Sometimes, people just have to go beyond the apparent popularity of the ruler (or president) and do the Right Thing. As evidence for that statement, I offer you an article from the Aug. 20, 1934 New York Times.
Did you read that part about "an effort to force Chancellor Hitler back to the rule of law"? This was in 1934. Did the German people succeed in forcing "Chancellor Hitler back to the rule of law"? No. What ever checks and balances our Founding Fathers wrote into our Constitution are there to protect us from ANY president acquiring so much power that such power cannot be rolled back except by the invasion of the armies of foreign nations. Do NOT let such a grab for power succeed in the United States of America in the year 2002. Do NOT let Mr. Bush and Attorney General Ashcroft strip away the Constitutionally guaranteed rights of American citizens for some short-term gain. Once surrendered, those rights would be bought back only by the blood of future generations of patriotic and loyal Americans who love this country as I do, and as you do. We do not want or need -- nor should we permit -- Mr. Ashcroft to establish concentration camps for American citizens, where American citizens can be held indefinitely, without being charged, without legal counsel, without trial. This is America, not Nazi Germany. Please wake up and stop this insanity. Most sincerely, Lois
Erwin Dear Buzz: Today (Monday) at around 11:30 A.M. I was watching MSNBC and Rick Sanchez was interviewing a British reporter from Newsweek about a report that "thousands" of Al Quaida soldiers were herded into containers in Afghanistan and consequently suffocated. When Sanchez started asking questions about their treatment--they were begging for water and were refused--the network immediately interrupted what Sanchez was saying and cut to a completely different story--one about the airline industry. This story was explosive, and I'm wondering who got to the network--Rumsfeld? Did anyone else see that story? Anonymous [BuzzFlash Note: You can read more about this currently alleged atrocity in an article from The Guardian: "UN evidence of Taliban massacre."] BuzzFlash - http://www.cnn.com/2002/US/08/19/terror.tape.chemical/index.html These disturbing tapes of dogs being gassed, on CNN, are pure propaganda by the Bush Administration to make the American people want WAR. This is an outrage! Interesting that it plays the same time as his announcement for a "military summit." What was that summit last year down in Crawford before 9-11??? We have a man in the White House who cannot even get along with Mexico! This is not what the United States of America is all about. Why don't they show some of the experimentation done on dogs in this country? Or what is being done to the whales by Navy Sonar. The whales are beaching themselves trying to give us a clue. We need to catch on before we destroy the planet. People have to stop listening to the propaganda. Somehow we have to beat it! What proof is there even of who made these tapes? Probably made by the CIA for the election propaganda! Cathi Lowery Subj: Rebecca Knight on Al Gore BuzzFlash, Thanks to you for publishing, and to Rebecca for compiling, the Compleat Ripoff of Election 2000. This should be required reading for all those good Dems who are looking for another candidate in 2004. It should be the same guy who won in 2000, along with a VP who might have more in common with Mr. Gore. Larry N. Walters Dear Buzz, A right wing Texas Republican Minister is arrested for killing his wife. I thought things like this didn't happen in the 'Heartland'. See: http://www.austin360.com/statesman/editions/monday/metro_state_4.html regards, Paul BuzzFlash, In the August 19th mailbag, a reader asked for a list of newspapers and radios contact numbers as well as those for liberal organizations. Here are a couple of sites with that information. Newspapers, TV, Radio http://www.mediawhoresonline.com/contactinfo.htm#Major A very wide range of organizations and information resources http://www.bear-left.com/links.html Also check out organizations you are interest in as many of them do have systems where they notify people of issues and up coming votes and many include a quick way to send a letter. All of us have to start making a lot of noise. Roberta Hi Buzz, Whether he runs or not I will vote for Al Gore. But I believe he will run because many of us are saying the same thing. Rebecca Knight, and other BuzzFlash writers and mailbaggers, have written the words right out of my mouth. There is no "getting over it." It's not OK to say we believe and live by our Constitution and our laws EXCEPT if someone with a lot of money and a lot of backing chooses to ignore them. You're either pregnant or you aren't. Our Constitution is a damned good one and the envy of the world. It is a document to be emulated and upheld for it's amazingly farsighted utility, and we're damned lucky to have had the forefathers we did. Al Gore has been our lawful and Constitutional President since JANUARY OF 2001. He was voted into office by the American people. It can't get any clearer! When the Republicans get voted out of office let them get over it. Judith Foster Dear BuzzFlash: It is a good idea to talk about the things that are happening to us, courtesy of president bush, but it seems that we need to get down to some hard work. There are some Democrats in this country who are fighting for their lives in the coming primaries, and the November elections. To mention just two... Jennifer Granholm, running for governor in Michigan, and Max Cleland, headed for the US Senate from Georgia. I have decided that with each small donation I make to the many, I will ask that any of their campaign workers who have relatives in Michigan... ask those relatives to vote for Jennifer Granholm. Perhaps, if we use this method, the many will garner some needed funds, and some votes will, then, come to our states. Something has to be done to stop the republican onslaught of money. In Georgia, Dick Cheney spent about two and a half hours at a fund raiser in Macon. He raised $600,000. bush had already been down there and raised 1.6 million. There seems to be no end to the money these people can raise. Give it some thought. Donate some, and ask for help. It can't hurt. Stephanie Dear BuzzFlash, When I think back to the 2000 Election debacle and theft and all that has happened since, my head reels! It seems that it is almost daily that something even more frightening rears its ugly head from Crawford, Texas! Whenever I think that things can't get any worse and my morale couldn't possibly sink any lower, I think about what it would have been like if Jim Jeffords hadn't of jumped ship! Oh the horror! Thanks for being there BuzzFlash! Nancy Lynn Nagy TN Dear BuzzFlash, A BuzzFlash article this weekend about the westcoast Longshoreman in negotiations (over a labor contract that is not signed) with the Bush Labor Dept. calls into display that the Labor Dept. is threatening bringing in the National Guard to stop any type of strike movement by the citizens of the Union/citizens of this nation. This action, at a time when we as citizens, who need the employment, and the income, plus our insecurity as a nation facing possible military action against Iraq will put our economy in dire straits -- so if at this time in history they're willing to bully us (citizens-the public) with military action -- "what does the future hold for us?" If you are open minded -- you have to see that things aren't going to get any better for this administration and once the public (us -- the great BuzzFlash consortium excluded) becomes aware of the Bushies falsehoods and lies then the administration will have no alternative but to call out the troops and round up all the dissidents. They are going to pit all of us against them -- SO WHO ARE YOU GOING TO BE FIGHTING FOR -- AMERICA OR BUSH?????? Anthony M. Arias Dear BuzzFlash, The BuzzFlash article by Wilhelmina Sims was outstanding and needs to be shouted from the highest of the high. How dare IMUS (I don't even listen to him anymore) take pot shots at blacks, women, Muslims or any group. How dare he and his kind are allowed to spew their scum across the airways and people either laugh, politely laugh or ignore and do nothing. How could these people end up being such a powerful voice in America and Americans not be sickened, and then it's us who are told we don't have a sense of humor because we cannot laugh at stupid and cruel jokes about women or blacks or Hispanics or people who they think are beneath them. I hope she does keep track of all the slurs, and her article awakened me to the fact that we all need to be keeping track of the slurs and you don't have to be black to do so. It is time we stand up for ourselves as human beings and not allow ourselves to be fodder for these people. A BuzzFlash Reader Dear BuzzFlash, Soviet Government Reads Citizens Private Mail? Ooops, Russia is a Free Country Now, It's the USA under George Bush that is Totalitarian What an amazing time we live in now. Just a couple years ago I worried whether to go with E*trade or Ameritrade for the lowest fees on my high-flying stock trade fees. Now I spend more time wondering if the United States is more like Nazi Germany or the USSR under Stalin. What a difference 18 months can make! The Bush government is going to be opening and reading your snail mail letters from grandma. Heck, they are already reading all your emails, and recording all the websites you nasty 'citizens' look at. They monitor everything you check-out from the library (thought police). They arrest people without a warrant, no lawyer, no phone call, and damn sure no pesky judge to be involved. When you leave your home, the US government can break into your house, search it, bug it, copy your computer or anything else they want, and then leave.. never telling you they were ever there. And the clincher? NO pesky judge involved either! Comes complete with a cute American totalitarian name.. 'Sneak and Peak'. A TIPS program for millions of 'citizens' to spy on fellow Americans, better than any communist East German Stassi could have dreamed of. If you are fortunate enough to get an attorney in this new Bush United States, John Ashcroft has no problem tape recording your conversations with the pesky 'law' person. Forget the Geneva Convention, we prefer to torture our prisoners here in the United States under Bush.. can't be bothered with any pesky thing like the Geneva Convention. Same goes for the World Court of Law, and heck, for that matter, the United States under George Bush does not adhere to ANY world agreements or treaties. And that is just the hi-lights, there has been much, much more. But! Just like Hitler, Bush proclaims everyone else to do as he says, not as he does! Sooo, if some other country decides they don't like the rules WE don't like... well, well.. We will KILL you! And we will KILL your leader and everyone in your country, take all you money, take your resources and then take any other property you have Bush might want. We are now living under George Bush's 'New World Order'! Are you proud to be an American?! Hitler and Stalin would be proud... hell, they would be jealous! STOP this insanity! VOTE on November 5 for all Democratic candidates. Volunteer your help to a local Dem campaign today. Do it!!
Thanks
Kelley ---- Spin Resistance Dear BuzzFlash, Why do I get the feeling I'm watching the "Truman Show" every time I see Bush in front of the cameras once again with his scripted, never off-the-cuff, words to the American people??? I think we have a new form of UNreality TV ... and our "beloved pres" is the star. How much are his nearly daily jaunts to picturesque landmarks in Air Force One costing us? Joanne Dear Buzz, It made my day when I saw you had posted my letter in the July 19 mailbag. However, I must regret to say that I made a mistake. Yes, that's right. I am taking responsibility for my error. You see, I wrote about the connection between the Army/DOD and anthrax in USA/Iraq. My error is this.....I failed to make a further connection...to take it one step beyond the obvious. I write to correct this error. I should have mentioned the following: Why is it that W. is sooooo intent on keeping the presidential papers of Reagan and his father locked up 10 times tighter than the social security lock box? Well, I guess he can't do the same to the Pentagon papers, or just forgot to. Pentagon papers show new evidence of Rummy knowing full well of Iraq's use of chemical weapons and still offering Saddam US aid is just the tip of the iceberg of what those locked up presidential papers contain, I bet my life saving on it! All of it! All $63.27 that is left now that W and the boys have destroyed the Dow. But then again, I am a disabled veteran of the USMC and I already know all to well how to get by on next to nothing. But to end on a high note, I am glad to say that my prior letter was vindicated by the reports this week that not only did the US provide Iraq with anthrax in the 1980's, but France did too! You can't image how that makes me feel. Excuse me gotta run..... (BBAARRFF!!) Kyle in Kobe Dear Buzz - Do you want to make progress against terrorism? Fine. Make sure that every child on this planet is fed, clothed, sheltered, and given a factually-based, culturally-neutral primary education. In less than a decade, you'd start to see a different world. The U.S. could go it alone with about half of the Pentagon's budget, or you could do it twenty or thirty times over under the auspices of the United Nations. On the other hand, you could also use that money to make sure that half of the planet is going to continue to grow up illiterate, hungry, angry and often orphaned within traveling distance of a war zone. Make sure to refer to these areas with catchy names like "Operation Infinite Justice." That should teach 'em something, too. Think about it. r Subj: Poll: GOP controls congressional agenda Dear BuzzFlash, One can speculate further. Since the GOP controls the congressional agenda, they are at fault for lax corporate oversight, the failure to pass any prescription drugs, and of growing deficits. Regardless of how the numbers are analyzed, they do not look good for congressional Republicans. From: http://www.dailykos.com/ Dear BuzzFlash, In the process of rearranging my book clutter the "Spider's Web" The secret history of how the White House illegally armed Iraq by Alan Freidman came into my hands again. The first time at a $3 table at a Safeway Store in the Mid 90's. No matter what page you turn to, you read damming information of the deceit of the senior officials of the Reagan-Bush years. The individuals involved are a roster of the present administration. The book reads like a thriller but it is all true. Alan Freidman, correspondent for the Financial Times of London, 4 time winner of British Press Awards, has done joint investigations with Koppel and Nightline and broke the IraqGate story. Here are some excerpts off the back jacket.
This book needs to be dusted off and read, a must interview, maybe a book to bring some income for your site. I can't stop reading it. The U.S. needs a refresher course in recent history before we march on into Iraq. Kris Click
here: Re: Why is the mainstream media revealing these chilling facts about the Bush Crime Family now? Dear Buzz, Could it be that even Bush's most enthusiastic corporate supporters (i.e., GE) are getting just a wee bit nervous about the likely war scenario from the gang of treacherous thugs that they so happily forced on us? All of a sudden they're now revealing all this highly embarrassing information regarding both Poppy and Rummy's past collusion with Saddam? Will they next reveal the very same U.S. govt. collusion with the bin Ladens that we've been reading about forever on the Internet? It is all very puzzling to say the least! Last night every TV news program obediently showed the same clip of the dog being used to test poison-gas by Al Qaeda in Afghanistan. I guess it is assumed that we will automatically and unconsciously transfer this ugly picture from Afghanistan to Iraq, and leap to the conclusion that this is exactly what is in store for us -- if we do not overwhelmingly support the un-elected moron's invasion plans for Iraq. He is shown over and over again, (trying to convincingly play the role of authentic prez) declaring with all the seriousness he can muster, that he "may" listen to the advice of others -- but HE ALONE -- will make the final decision on when and how (not if) we begin our new war. No doubt these constant images we're being fed are part of their slick P/R campaign to have their "regime change" policy accepted as conventional wisdom, and NOT subject for debate or congressional "interference." God, it seems to me we're silently watching our own self-destruction in slow motion, every time we turn on the TV and listen to all the mind-numbing bullshit of their latest propaganda blitz. Sincerely, Susan (Florida) [BuzzFlash Note: As Barbara succinctly put it: it's time that America had a "regime change"!] Quote of the Day Rena Golden, the executive vice-president and general manager of CNN International, comments on the war against Afghanistan:
