The BuzzFlash Mailbag
July 3, 2002
NOTE: The BuzzFlash Mailbag will be on vacation until Tuesday, July 9th. Have a safe and happy holiday weekend!
Happy 4th of July to BuzzFlash readers!
Ah yes, the day designated to symbolize our freedom from the mother country, England, with all of its tyranny, unfair taxes, world bully, unfair kings and priorities given to the wealthy. Say what?!!! On this holiday symbolizing freedom, we are faced with less freedom than ever. We are in no better situation, than when the mother country tried to control us, huh? Washington D.C. looks like a protected fortress with flimsy Home Depot fencing all around the capital. Americans are electronically fleeced in many places. Our constitution and bill of rights has been impeded to such extent that many dont know their rights and freedoms any longer. Many freedoms Americans enjoyed are now defunct and to make matters worse, too many are not even aware of it. The very foundation this country was founded on is showing huge stability cracks.
Yes Virginia, there is an America! We just cant see it right now through the blur of corporate failures and highway robbery. Theres a shroud of smoke around our freedoms, laws and the administration. We cant see America because there is a haze of hoaxes perpetrated by this administration. If you are unemployed, check up on your president. If you lost your retirement assets, check your president. If you dont want your sons and daughters to die in Iraq, think about who wants them to invade. If your city is under a smog alert on this holiday, think about who refuses to do anything about it. If you got the shaft in the (so called) tax rebate, you know who to look at. If you are worried about social security, think about who isn't. If you have no medical insurance, or find that your HMO is paying less and less, ponder who doesn't give a hoot. You may be making choices between nourishment or to have your prescription filled if so, think about your president. If youre tired of secrecy and continuous war, realize this is just the beginning. Realize who is behind it all and who brought us to these unstable times in the interest of greed and profit.
Lastly, when thinking about personal predicaments that have now been bestowed on Americans by this administration, ask yourselves one simple question. Ask yourselves if you are better off today, than in the Clinton administration. You should come up with a resounding, no! If so, run to the voting booths every time they are opened and throw out the controlling perpetrators of your misery.
Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus and there is an America! We just have to believe, and eliminate the fog-making grinches to enjoy them once again.
I was watching a Saturday Night Live repeat from the late 1990's yesterday. The guest was David Spade and the news was presented by Collin Quinn (sp?). A couple of the jokes amazed me:
1. Anthrax threat letters to abortion clinics were in the news (right-wingers?). The punch line was similar to "The person(s) sending these letters are either very anti-abortion or very, very pro-anthrax..." Could there be a connection between the threats in the 90's and the letters last year? I guess the FBI is all over this.
2. Flash to a picture of Osama - The gov't announced a reward for his head, I think the figure was 25 million. The punch line went "they are going to have to come up with a salary-cap for terrorists..."
Anthrax & Osama in the same episode from sometime in the LAST DECADE. Some things never change.
The (secret) Republican Pledge of Allegiance:
In light of the Worldcom scandal and EDS' recent stock decline . . .
Back in January of 2000 I sold my EDS stock, after I found that:
1. the EDS Board of Directors gave retiring Les Alberthal a $36.7 million severance package
2. Dick Cheney and James Baker were on the Board
Business as usual, eh? Let's hope these corrupt practices finally discredit or jail the scoundrels.
first read about Congressman J.C. Watts' decision not to run again in
"J.C. Watts Won't Seek Re-Election" at: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&ncid=7
The quote that stood out, for me, in that article was "Watts occasionally has complained that he was not included enough in leadership decisions."
Gee, do you suppose we were the only ones who understood that Mr. Watts' unprecedented and meteoric elevation to a leadership post in the Republican Congressional caucus occurred because he was so photogenic? He certainly was rare. In fact, he was one-of-a-kind: a black man on the Republican side of the Congressional aisle.
Maybe now that Mr. Watts has opened his eyes, he will decide that the Democratic Party is, after all, the place where he philosophically belongs. His rise to a leadership post there might take longer because he would have to move up though the ranks; but once at the top, he would, at least, be listened to and consulted, and included "in leadership decisions" and not just pushed forward for photo-ops.
Quote of the Day:
The phony and laughable "outrage" that Dim Son is expressing daily about his most loyal cash-cows in the corporate/criminal world, is quickly being replaced by the GENUINE outrage of the American public!
First they enthusiastically encourage us to join the party by placing our money and our faith in "All-American" corporations like Enron, Halliburton, and Global Crossing, with endless hype from the always obliging media, while those in the executive suites (read: Dick Cheney, Paul O'Neil, Ken Lay, etc.) are working diligently to deregulate every industry possible, to evade our laws, to dismantle Social Security and Medicare, to install their hand-puppets (read: Harvey Pitt) in every single regulatory government agency, and to obscenely enrich themselves at the expense of every honest and hardworking American taxpayer and investor. And we're supposed to take Dim Son seriously when he says he's "outraged" and he's going to punish the "evil-doers?"
Now, we're told that the Supreme Court, those regal giants of "Constitutional Justice" who installed Dim Son against the wishes of a clear majority of American voters, while turning every prior ruling on its head, has declared it's perfectly acceptable to take OUR tax dollars away from the public schools that have been so poorly funded in the past, and funnel millions, maybe billions, of our money directly to private (read: religious) schools. Dim Son explains to us, that these vouchers are indeed necessary and altogether proper because they will be used ONLY with the pious purpose of helping poor black children in the inner cities. Does Dim Son and the Felonious Five seriously expect us to believe they give a rats ass about poor children ANYWHERE?
I'm so enraged by the utterly absurd and nonsensical poppycock we are being fed by this team of professional snakeoil salesmen I could scream! Our mainstream"journalists" have been given such a vast amount of material to report on: corporate crimes, political crimes, collusion everywhere, the dismantling of all the rights and freedoms we once thought were sacred, the most power-hungry and secretive administration in our lifetime. And what are the biggest headlines of the day? Dim Son's colonoscopy and his exercise regiment! The only 'historic' thing I can see in all of this, is that we have truly entered the world of The Wizard of Oz.

EVERYONE should know that the real reason that Bush is cutting funds for toxic waste sites is to save Dick Cheney's butt.
Cheney allegedly accomplished the merger of the Bushies old company Dresser and Cheney's company Halliburton all the while knowing that Dresser had an asbestos site that would bankrupt Halliburton/Dresser to have to clean it up. And he didn't let the stockholders know about it. If he knew, and he should have, that was a crime. Dresser had given the Bushies a start in the "oil bidness."
By switching from the EPA to having all taxpayers clean up designated sites, the taxpayers will foot the bill for the Dresser (now Halliburton site) and Cheney will supposedly be off the hook for the damages done.
When a reporter gets assigned to the White House Press Pool, does the reporter's corporation, or the reporter, pay for the lobotomy? And is the gelding done at the same time?
Three cheers for Paul Krugman!!
Responding to a reporter who had the audacity to question the Boy Prince about his financial indiscretions, re: Paul Krugman's NY Times column, His Royalness snappishly claimed that "it" had been fully vetted. Damn sure was! Poppy neutered that puppy long before it left the pound.
Ps. I wonder what nickname this reporter will be tarred and feathered with?
Have a great Holiday Buzz Folks and Readers,
I just wanted to take a moment to comment on Gloria Lalumia's Monkeys With Potatoes, Afoot in the Land article. Her comments about the bumper stickers made me feel less alone--less like the angry liberal awash in a sea of right-wing, flag-wavers.
It started with the "I Love My Country, but Fear My Government" sticker and I've since added "Without Dissent, it's Not America." My husband, who shares my views, voiced some concern about my safety...that perhaps I'm opening myself up as a target, but as Ms. Lalumia so aptly points out, I feel compelled to "pass along the message, sometimes even in silence."
I must admit though to spending more time watching the reactions of the passengers behind me in my rearview mirror and gleefully hoping that a flag-waving SUV or confederate flag-bearing pickup truck will stop behind me at the next stop light. For the most part, the reactions have been positive. And I hope that in my small way, I'm at the very least giving people something to think about. Thanks again to Gloria for the wonderful article.
"And then out in the world we pass along our message, sometimes even in silence. We put our BuzzFlash The UnDrudge Report and Democratic Underground and Bush Knew stickers up on our cars and weave our message through traffic. We make silent commentary to ourselves every time we see a SUV with a flag flying and launch our thoughts out into the universe. And if people around us are praising the resident in the White House, our silence speaks volumes."
[BuzzFlash Note: We've also begun placing stickers in areas with high foot-traffic. Even if it only registers subliminally, perhaps it will plant the seed of doubt necessary to wake up the Stepford patriots.]
If one needs a reason to be thankful today or anytime in the near future, please go to, www.chattanoogan.com, and read the Hamilton County Republicans Declaration of Independence! Be thankful that you're not here!!!
Keep in mind that this bunch and their like-minded, no tax, mob friends who stormed the capital last year are a major part of the problem, but they are washing their hands of any and all responsibility. Nor have they ever understood that TN along with every other southern state and most midwestern states are "welfare states"; for every dollar sent to the fed. treasury TN sucks back roughly $1.45, Trent Lott's MS was the highest with the last figure that I read being $1.65. The linkage of state taxes to the federal ones that W cut hit TN very hard, but they take no responsibility for that either.
After reading the Republican's Declaration, it should be very obvious why TN was red for Dumya as opposed to the vastly more intelligent native son.
I do hope that you will consider posting this headline along with a catchy headline as further public humiliation seems to be in order.
New state motto under consideration, "TN sounds good to me, unless of course you have to pee."
Have a great day.
When are we going to start fighting the homegrown terrorists that kill ten-year-old girls playing in parks? When are we going to protect the good people of the inner city from the likes of the bigheadedboyz? How can we protect ourselves from an external threat when we can't protect our own people from the terrorists that live in their own neighborhood? We have children killing children and we are going to expand our war in Asia?
Corporate Crime. I am not affluent enough to be a corporate criminal. I do not have the connections. It really is about connections. Martha Stewart, George Bush, Ken Lay, Daddy Bush. If you don't have connections, being a criminal has big consequences. Try shoplifting. You will get more time shoplifting than you will for insider trading. People will shoot you and get away with it if they catch you trying to steal their car.
Over the years, I have become an expert on being an I told you so. As a matter of fact, I just told my son the other day who is studying Tai Kwon Do that I am an expert at predicting an outcome in important matters of the world. I am a "Tai Kwon I Told You So" Black Belt.
I knew Bush was a thief. I knew that he would continue to be a thief. I knew he was a thief before he stole the election. This Harkengate matter is just another example of how Bush has never had to ever work for a nickel of his money.
This all saddens me. I will feel hopeless until the mainstream media accurately portrays who Bush is.
I have come up with a suggestion for punishment for white collar criminals. The should be forced to live in a two bedroom apartment with an ankle bracelet and work at Walmart for ten years at minimum wage. They might even discover that they have some compassion.
It is time for a FORCE BUSH TO RESIGN CAMPAIGN. What an embarrassment he is to our country. It is our country, isn't it.
I just read the following in Make Them Accountable, and it hit me right between the eyes!!! I was aware of all this, but had simply failed to juxtapose the undeniable facts.
Threat of US strikes passed to Taliban weeks before NY attack, Jonathan Steele, Ewen MacAskill, Richard Norton-Taylor and Ed Harriman, The Guardian of London, September 22, 2001:
Osama bin Laden and the Taliban received threats of possible American military strikes against them two months before the terrorist assaults on New York and Washington, which were allegedly masterminded by the Saudi-born fundamentalist, a Guardian investigation has established.
U.S. Policy Towards Taliban Influenced by Oil Say Authors, Julio Godoy, Inter Press Service, November 15, 2001 (archived at the Internet Archive):
At one moment during the negotiations, the U.S. representatives told the Taliban, either you accept our offer of a carpet of gold, or we bury you under a carpet of bombs, [Jean-Charles]Brisard [co-author of the just-published book, Bin Laden, the forbidden truth] said in an interview in Paris. [This threat was made in July of 2001.]
And I got to thinking about Bush's speech at West Point where he justified the idea of preemptive strikes against about 60 nations who "might" be preparing weapons of mass destruction to use against us. None of these nations had openly threatened such an action, but Bush asserted that "we cannot wait to be attacked to take action" (or words to that effect).
There is NO question that if any nation had dared to openly threaten us with a "carpet of bombs" we would not have waited for it to happen. We would have attacked that nation preemptively.
By Bush's own reasoning, he explains the actions taken by the Taliban on 9/11. The American public, especially the Bush supporters, should be reminded of this.
I love your articles and I agree 110%! I'm just so sick of hearing all the corruption that the Smirking Puppet is able to get away with! And I ask you: WHY????
Other than getting this Little Judas out of office in 2004, what else can we do? It's not like we had anybody on the Democratic side with cojones to do or even 'whisper' anything against this Dimwit!
Why? What is going on????
I'm sick of it!
[BuzzFlash Note: We're sick of it, too. And like us, you should inform as many people as you can about how you feel. Some of them will respond negatively. Let them. Often, they do because you're making them think, sometimes for the first time. Then calmly point out the truth of Bush's accomplishments. It's hard to argue with the truth.]
Note that Bush chose as ambassador to Saudi Arabia Robert Jordan, a partner of the Dallas law office of Baker Botts, who represented him against insider trading allegations arising from his sale of stock in Harken Energy Co.
For some reason it always seemed to me that to go it alone was acting unilaterally. Now when our philosophy (if we have one) is that if all the world is out of step except for us, then we must cry about it. If the Shrub administration feels that we are above what the rest of the people on this globe feel (I believe this is called arrogance) then go ahead. Do not consider the danger in which United States citizens are placed. Hopefully, we might catch on before real disaster happens to us. As the article, today, informed us we shall try to convince these other nations that we are right. How? Will the Shrub atomize them as he said earlier was one of his resources.
To paraphrase Mark Twain, "When we realize the whole world is crazy, then everything else makes sense."

I first read about the Harkin Energy scam in an article from the Sept 1991 Mother Jones entitled "Bush Family Values" by Pulitzer Prize winning reporter Steven Pizzo. In my opinion this is still the best article ever written about the Bush brothers and the crimes they have committed to satisfy their greed. Its still on the web, and I would encourage everybody to read it. The amount of money Jeb managed to milk out of the federal taxpayers without being indicted makes Dubya's Harkin Energy scam money look like chump change.
Keep up the good work
The NY Times has carried a story over the past couple of days about a Saudi princess who was indicted for throwing her Indonesian maid down the stairs and not paying her monies owed. The woman had to return to Indonesia for her mother's funeral and--what a surprise---COULD NOT GET A VISA TO RETURN FOR THE TRIAL. this effectively ended the criminal prosecution in---guess where?---Florida. The Saudi paid a cash settlement to the Indonesian., so I guess all's well in "bush-land." Am I the only person who is wondering if the bush family did another favor for their Saudi friends by preventing this woman from re-entering the country? Meanwhile, the "princess" has no criminal history preventing her from remaining. Just the kind of person we want here!!!
