The BuzzFlash Mailbag
February 21, 2002
Please let me know if I should be writing to someone else. I have some feedback to give to you.
I read the transcript of Paul Begala's online chat with Democrats.com and decided to try what he suggested. I've been emailing personalized suggestions and articles to prominent newspaper columnists, using an assertive (not aggressive) and respectful tone. Within a week, and among 4 emails I've sent to her, I've received two responses from Maureen Dowd. I have no idea how much influence such emails have, but they can't hurt.
might want to check out the following article on white supremacist computer
games in the U.S. in today's Guardian:
Not sure if you had seen the first Stars and Stripes letter written about the TSP story a couple of weeks ago. Here's the first paragraph:
Then my letter on TSP was published Feb. 17.
Then in today's S & S a TSGT wrote a letter that is very unusual for S & S and obviously in response to the Feb. 13th letter.....a few quotes from it:
It was a good letter. You'll have to read the entire content online in a few days.
Then I got an e-mail at work from some unknown federal worker in England telling me they liked my letter.
Looks like the liberals, moderates even, working on overseas military bases are becoming fed-up with the Bush administration and are feeling more comfortable about speaking out in opposition, in public no less.
That it's happening on military bases, where flags and Bibles abound, means that the GOP's propaganda techniques w/ civilian voters stateside will likewise be losing their effect.
my hunch, for what it's worth.
"My trip to Asia begins here in Japan for an important reason. It
begins here because for a century and a half now, America and Japan have
formed one of the great and enduring alliances of modern times. From that
alliance has come an era of peace in the Pacific."
A BuzzFlash Reader
is the impassioned speech from February 13, 2002, by Rep. Dennis Kucinich
(D-O) regarding Shays-Meehan substitute Campaign Finance Reform Bill.
He wasn't being very passive about the issue...he shouted it.
Re: A BUZZFLASH READER CONTRIBUTION: An Email About Katherine Harris
My God, you've GOT to be kidding!
I vote in every election but I go on record as stating, if she were the only candidate, I'd save the time, gas and effort it would take to come anywhere near her name on any ballot. You might get the rich, white Republicans of Sarasota County to vote for her (lemmings recognize one of their own) but the real people of Florida know who and what she is. What goes around, comes around and she's due for a sound trouncing.
My name isn't really Mildred Remington - but it sounds Republican doesn't it? Sent the following to the NRCC Chair re: harris election....
re:special media watch(Carville} by Gloria Lalumia
been seeing a lot of Carville and Begala lately, and as hard as it is
for anyone to the left of Attila the Hun, they are hanging in there. The
Media in this country has gone completely brain dead. Even Washington
Journal, a morning regular for me, is so to the
morning, for a time, I tried. There was a new moderator on, one I had never
seen. He also cut everyone off who didn't stay on subject and who wanted
to know something about Bush. He also said the word, NUCULAR, every time,
just like our president..the same one who used that pronunciation three
straight times in one speech, maybe even more! I remember, from "Politically
Incorrect," something a big star, not a backer of Bush said,
Thanks, a real admirer of Gloria Lalumia..We miss you, Girl..Take all the time you need, then come back!
Once again because of your wonderful site I read the article you posted - Do Americans really want peace? As so often when I read an article that especially mirrors my thoughts, I write a thank you with a few encouraging words to the author.
This is the reply I received from the writer of that great piece and what good news it is -- he is so overwhelmed with favorable responses, he couldn't reply individually to each and I loved what he said in his reply. Hopefully the citizens of America are wising up to the fact the Bushies want and need war -- peaceful solutions are not in their game plan. I just wish our senators and congressmen would wake up...that military budget is really scary.
Anyway, was so happy with his words, just wanted to share them with you. (Especially since I would never have had the opportunity to read it without you.)
PS Sent Helen T. another thank you after her last article and told her how I feel. I was so complimented because her reply to me was short and sweet. "How nice to have a soul mate." I considered that really special because as you have said "She is a treasure".

Caught the tail end of Larry King tonight and he welcomed, Bill Bennett on board - don't know what or where, but he's now on the staff of CNN. They've really gone over the edge. That sanctimonious, lying lard butt is the final straw - they no longer care to pretend they're unbiased. This is so sickening.....
Re: A BUZZFLASH READER CONTRIBUTION: An Email About Katherine Harris
You need to put a "Barf Alert" on stuff like that when you send it to us loyal BuzzFlashers.
[BuzzFlash Note: We sincerely apologize to any BuzzFlash Readers who experienced, while reading the email about Katherine Harris, an involuntary ejection of their full or partially-eaten lunch. But, being a "half-full" crowd, might we suggest a positive use for it -- emergency rooms could show the email to anyone who might have ingested a poison. Just think of the money they'd save on stomach-pumping equipment!]
I'm really wondering, if the Pentagon is going to spread false information directly to foreign journalists and other abroad, why should we believe that the war news we U.S. citizens get spoon fed from the pentagon is trustworthy.
Noting how many numerous blatant lies Bush has been caught telling American citizens in regards to Enron & the economy, do you really feel that Bush and Co. (which includes the Pentagon) have any qualms about lying to American people in regards to the War? In many of the articles on the internet regarding coercive persuasion, it's very interesting that one of the main things a cult will do to manipulate a person is to control the flow of information that you receive. Cults also try and install an "us against them" mentality (Good/Evil). This administration is nothing more than a Cult run by Right wing fanatics. They are out to destroy social security and basically try and run the government into the ground. The more you look at the moonie tactics of mind control/persuasion, the more you see the republican party.
speaking of the moonies, I wonder if it's a coincidence that the Carlyle
Group is now heavily investing in Korea, With George Bush Senior's connections
to (Korean) Reverend Sun Myung, involving very large payments to Bush,
it has to make you wonder is this going to be another payback somehow???
I mean look at all the money the pentagon/Carlyle group is going to "not
be able to keep track of"? I wonder if the Carlyle group will be
Bush, in my view, is a dictator. If compassionate conservatism is defined by bush, I want nothing to do with it, cause it looks more like ultra radical noncompasionate and nonconservatism fascism to me.
I have an appointment for a root canal at 12:30 tomorrow, followed by an appointment for a possibly torn Achilles tendon later at 3:30. I'm going to write to George Bush to tell him to bomb China and India any time been 12:30 and about 6 tomorrow because it will not matter to me. I will either be too high to care, or I will be in such pain that I am insensate to the plight of the world at-large, much less the possible vaporization of my own neighborhood.
I hope you will join me in encouraging the President to finally cut to the chase. I suggest the following framework for the letter.
Dear Mr. President:
We should attack China and India rather than Afghanistan or North Korea because:
There are more people in general per square mile in China and India There
are more square miles in China and India Ergo, there are more people who
are possibly evil and bad and who
(Any dummy could figure this out, but don't tell him that)
There are bound to be more bad people among a larger aggregate of people
Many terrorists in N. Korea come from China or are sympathetic with RED COMMIES anyway.
Many terrorists from Afghanistan are probably trying to pass as Pakistani or Indian these days, but don't bother with Pakistan because it's pretty small potatoes in comparison with India.
Ergo, by attacking China and India, you are really striking at the roots of terrorism in other countries.
If you attack major population centers with nuclear capability, the rest of the your world alliance partners will have little choice but to come to your support and be prepared to respond with retaliatory strikes.
Ergo, this is the only course of action which will guarantee the support of your Allies.
Then it would be good to include a closing salutation such as:
Yours truly (or "truly yours," or "really truly yours...really,"
or something along this line)
I hope you will all send your own message to the President encouraging the above action. He never takes me very seriously, but I'm sure he'll believe it if he hears from enough of us.
Thanks for your support,
Just returned a phone call I received from Rep. Tom Davis' office telling
me I'd been chosen to receive a national leadership award. Was I skeptical?
You bet. Someone in his office played a tape asking me to support the
President's stimulus package of corporate and estate tax cuts. 'Take a
leadership role in your community,' is how they put it. (An aside: I thought
winning something meant you didn't have to pay for your prize.)
Subj: Greatest President?
A front page story datelined Washington (AP) appeared on the front page in the Silver City Daily News - boxed. I have searched AP for this particular AP poll which claims that Lincoln was chosen by 20% with JFK and Bush tied at 14 and 13% respectively. Clinton and Roosevelt were tied at 8% for fourth place.
The poll was taken Feb. 13-17 among a sample of 1,023. Is this true? If it is, God help the USA.
[BuzzFlash Note: We found it here. Note that the poll is done each year on President's Day. I hope we remember to look at the poll next year, after Bush's "agenda" has finally been exposed to those who currently think he's great.]
Subj: BANKRUPTCIES ROCKET!
Our country is in an economic recession, unemployment has increased, and bankruptcies have sky-rocketed since Bush has come into office. Not to mention, our country's budget being in the red, due to our increased military defense spending in fighting "terrorism" and/or "axis of evil".
Let's see how long Bush's so-called "popularity" will last. That is, if you can believe the polls which are most probably skewed in Bush's favor by the corporate media. Bush is certainly not popular in the rest of the world.
