The BuzzFlash Mailbag
January 23, 2002
they go again BuzzFlash! The press is changing (for the better) GW Bush's
'words' before they print them in their reports! I watched GW Bush's speech
in West Virginia yesterday on MSNBC (for as long as I could stomach),
and I just happened to hear the part where he made this ridiculous statement.
However, he did not say exactly the above statement as reported by AP,
he said, "The truth of the matter is, the best thing for ME to do
for the economy is to make sure THAT THE EVILDOERS DON'T HIT US AGAIN
. . ."!!!
hey guys, i keep hearing how the bush administration did nothing to help save enron from bankruptcy, after they had contacted numerous administration officials, and therefore are off the hook (washington post in today's editorial). But it seems to me that had the bush stimulus plan passed, it just could have helped saved enron's ass. wouldn't they have received a quarter of a billion from that alone? if this is not trying to save enron, i do not know what is. also i think that the whole cheney task force on energy was a blueprint to save enron. but unfortunately for them (both bush and enron), jeffords jumped ship and put the energy plan in peril. i think that is why cheney is stonewalling, because it will show just how much the bushies did try and save enron. they knew it was a sinking ship. they had to. why aren't journalists putting this together? just asking....
by the way keep up the good work. thank god for BuzzFlash!
I had to quickly whip out my hankie today when the pResident announce how outraged he was that his mother-in-law was bamboozled by Enron, too! I nearly laughed till I cried. All of a sudden GW's outraged. How much longer do you think this weasel can keep up his "I'm just as in the dark as you are" act? The "we're all in the same boat as you" act? His closest advisors have been "in the loop" for some time now and you mean to tell me not one of them gave GW the low down on Enron? Are we really expected to believe this hogwash? I wonder which one of the Bush brain trust decided it was time to play the elderly mother-in-law Enron victim card? You know things must be getting pretty desperate when the repugs try to drum up sympathy with this nonsense. King George goes into battle against Enron shielded behind his mother-in-laws skirt.
Now that Jenna has lost her life savings (right), perhaps GW can dig deep down into his pockets and produce part of the half million he was never outraged about taking from Enron in the past, and share part of it with his mother-in-law to keep her from the poor house.
seem to be so many shills carrying the bags for the corporate right in
the media these days that voices of reason are all but drowned in the
tide. The birth of sites like Media Whores Online, Bartcop.com and Buzzflash
seem to have been at least partly a response to that phenomena.
Did you see the front page of today's (1/22/02) Wall Street Journal--left hand column titled Shooting Ranges Gain Special Protections Thanks to Gun Lobby: NRA's Stealth Campaign Leaves Jangled Neighbors with No Legal Recourse. For a group that is so rights-oriented, they sure don't mind taking our rights away.
[BuzzFlash Note: Hmm. That sounds suspiciously like the Republican Agenda: Restrict Your Rights To Broaden Mine.]
attached is an email fundraising solicitation from Jeb! received in mailboxes
on Saturday. It's interesting that with all of the self-congratulatory
rhetoric about a self-imposed fundraising moratorium after the 9-11 tragedy,
Republicans raised three-quarters of a million dollars between 9-12 and
9-30. During the period the Bush campaign amassed
Enron Is Only the Tip of the Iceberg
is it that the Repugs can declare, after a very few short weeks, that
there is nothing political about Enron? & then compare it to Whitewater?
Why compare it to Whitewater? After 8 full years of investigating the
Clintons over Whitewater, Ken Starr issued - how many indictments against
the Clintons? Oh, yes, that's right - zero! He examined every scrap of
paper that ever crossed their hands, hounded them day & night. There
- back to Enron. They have barely started to hold hearings or even look
at what is left of the documents. It is absurd for the Repugs to be whining
already that there is no scandal, no smoking gun. We have yet to see Mr.
Cheney's notes regarding the Energy Plan Meetings. Will it surprise anyone
if it shows he only consulted with Enron? I will not be surprised at all.
After all these months, not a single reporter has discovered anyone other
The more I discover about this, the more I realize it's not what the White House did in December that matters - it's all the stuff they've done for Enron all year long. I never understood why Bush backed out of the international banking agreement that Clinton had worked so hard on. I mean, it was supposed to help catch terrorists, drug dealers & crooks. Of course, finding out that Enron had 3000 subsidiary companies, 800 of which are in countries covered by that agreement made the Bush position crystal clear. We lost almost 2 months trying to scramble after September 11 to get on the financial trails of Al Quaeda - how much faster & thorough could we have been if not for Bush canceling that last spring?
It's looking more & more like it will take all of my children's future to recover from the Bush II excesses.
Of all the articles you have posted, this was the scariest to me. (see excerpt and link below) It is time to fight back! We can't let this happen or sites like BuzzFlash will no longer be available. I am writing to my Congresspeople. Everyone else, if you value your freedom to access sites like BuzzFlash, please do the same before the Internet is under Fascist control.
media members who downplay the Enron story by claiming that Bush and the
GOP are not directly implicated in any criminal activity are pretending
ignorance of the true scandal. Criminal activity is beside the point.
The Enron story - the way it conducted its business, the way it manipulated
its employees and manipulated the law - is simply a perfect example of
everything the Republican Party stands for. Rapacity, duplicity,
Those who vote Republican and then cry about their disappearing pensions deserve no sympathy. They've been warned and they've been shown. For decades.
In this country both of the major parties espouse capitalism. But there is a fundamental difference. For example, the maxim of the Democrat is "make money and help others." The maxim of the Republican is "make money and screw others." When the Republican has a reversal in fortune and needs help, then he pays lip service to those liberal arguments that will enable him to sponge off his liberal friends. When he's riding high on the tide of success he advocates only those tenets of fair play that protect him and his money. He labels all other tenets of fair play as dangerous radicalism, as treason, communism, socialism, Jacobinism. And he's so soaked in greed that he assumes everyone else is too. Thus he rationalizes and justifies himself.
Let me get this straight. Mr. Bush's economic 'stimulus' plan is set to
give a tax rebate in excess of 250 million dollars to Enron, a company
that has paid no taxes at all in four of the last five years. Now I know
Dubya doesn't really understand the intricacies of the tax codes. But
most certainly the multi-millionaires who surround him understand it quite
[BuzzFlash Note: We are already in that "bad time." The system of corruption that infects our government must be lanced.]
When George W. Bush accepted the portrait of Martin Luther King Jr. Monday on behalf of the White House, he said with a smirk "I can't wait to hang it." And then he waited for laughter.
Does the buffoon not know that black men were routinely hanged in America? Or was this a deliberate racist slap? He used a similar line when the portrait of him was unveiled in Texas a couple of weeks ago. "Thank you for coming to my hanging" he said, and smirked and waited for the laughter.
He put black men to death in Texas with quite a bit of glee. I'll bet he couldn't wait to do that, either.
All his phony kissy-face posing with the King family cannot mend this racial slur of the most despicable sort.
