Subject: NY Times

Maybe Bill Keller of The New York Times and executive editors of every newspaper in the country will finally understand the simple truth about this administration and our fine members of congress. Anyone that has a modicum of intelligence and is able to draw their own conclusions based on the facts at hand, knows exactly what I'm talking about and nothing needs to be reiterated. Now that the Republicans have started the swift boating of The New York Times, is there any chance Keller will fight back and let The Times become a true newspaper for the people and report the facts, nothing but the facts and let the truth lead the way no matter which way it goes? Somehow I'm a skeptic.

Subject: Obvious Response to "Cut and Run" -- "Smash and Grab"

I am always amazed at how circumspect the Democrats are about impugning the motives of their GOP opponents, when those on the other side call them traitors and stop just short of forming a lynch mob.

Their response to "cut and run" is a sad case in point.

The correct response is to tell the truth. Cutting & running is indeed bad if you accept that we mistakenly undertook a misguided but noble mission. The American people and our troops may have done so, but the Bush administration did not.

For them, this looked like a simple smash and grab robbery. They wanted to give control of Saddam's oil to their friends, so they could decide how much flows and collect the profits when it does, as Greg Palast, Naomi Klein, Antonia Juhasz, and others have documented. They used our good reputation in the world, our tax dollars, and our troops as the brick to smash the window, and we don't even get a cut of the loot, or a break at the gas pump, as thanks.

We are treated like patsies while Bush's friends at the oil companies, defense contractors, Bechtel, and Halliburton divide the spoils.

Those are not conspiracy theories but the ugly, bald-faced facts.

When you catch a smash and grab thief in the act, you don't figure out how to make him more comfortable in the jewelry store, you wrestle him to the ground and sit on him until the cops show up.

If Democrats continue to talk as if the war is just a noble adventure gone wrong, not only will they continue to lose, but they will look more and more like willing accomplices, trying to stall the cops while the rest of the gang gets away.

And what the GOP is taking is not just Iraq, but our democracy.

Better Late Than Never for Kerry

It came two years late, but the awarding of Democratic Sen. John Kerry's controversial Vietnam War Silver Star has been publicly blessed by the man who was Navy secretary at the time--Virginia Sen. John Warner. It came during last week's heated debate over Kerry's plan to set a deadline to start withdrawing troops from Iraq. After Kerry made reference to Vietnam, the Republican chimed in about how the whole Silver Star episode went down and how then Navy Lt. John Kerry deserved it for killing a Viet Cong who was lugging a rocket launcher. "I know that," says Warner. In 2004, critics said Kerry didn't deserve the medal because they claim he shot the foe in the back. "I went to the Pentagon in February 1969 and was there for five years in the Navy secretariat," Warner recalls. "I remember when his Silver Star came through," he adds. "I went back and checked for accuracy, and it was accurate."

Subject: Burns Has Had It with Diversity? (Letter to Sen. Burns)

Dear Sen. Burns,

As I read today's news items I came across an article titled Senate Committee Votes to Expand Local Radio Broadcasting - A BuzzFlash News Alert, In which the article quoted you as saying, "I've had about all the diversity I can stand."

Really? Well what about the fact that America is not yours to decide alone, based upon your own arrogant stance on Human Beings?

Your statement struck me as being at odds with what your elected position actually is. Being that you were voted into office with the notion that you would serve the citizens of Montana. However, judging by your response and with all due respect, Sir, why have you decided to vote against the amendment based solely upon your own biases, as you apparently have had it with Diversity?

Has Human diversity affected you to such a degree that you can no longer stand the thought of Diversity? Why do you want to exclude American individuals from being included in America? Are you threatened by Diversity? Are you aware that the United States grew as a result of diverse peoples from other nations? When did America become a single group? Who dictates which groups will be served and protected by our Government?

It was a compelling statement coming from an individual that has proclaimed in campaigns that he will serve the People of Montana. I was stunned to read such a remark from a Senator that professes to work for the people.

Well how about this?

I am an American that has had it with arrogant, prejudiced, self-important elected officials that seem to forget that they were elected by the people and for the people. Not to serve their term to act out their quirky biases and abuse a system that was put in place to assure a Democratic Society.

I am willing to bet that you also have had it with many other groups as well. So if you had your way, America would be reduced to what?

You, Sir, have failed not only as a Political Elected Official, but also as a human being, as you lack the qualities needed to govern in a democratic society.

You, Sir, are the one that needs to return to England being as you apparently so oppose what our Nation was built on. If you do not like diversity, then, Sir, you do not have the wherewithal to serve a diverse nation such as the United States of America.

Where do you get off thinking your statement was appropriate? It merely reinforces the fact that you, Sir, are a bigoted, arrogant individual and will not be re-elected in the up and coming elections. Selling out the American People for Big Corporations is a misuse of power and I am sickened that you, Sir, had the audacity to even state such a sentiment. I see your true colors shining through. Perhaps you may think about going back to being an Auctioneer because you definitely fail to fit the criteria of a Statesmen.

From your web site you actually had the audacity to list the following.

In 1997, Senator Burns became Chairman of the Communications Subcommittee, one of the major regulatory posts in Congress. Since then he has been praised as "one of the fathers of the modern Internet," standing for deregulation, ...

You Sir are nothing but a Cooperate pimp and everyone else be damned ... America is not as stupid as you would like us to be.

Unrespectfully,

Homosexuality influenced by biological factors, Canadian researcher says. Bummer, now the Republicans will have to find someone else to hate. 6/28

Buzz,

How is this going to make an iota of difference to the wingnuts who hate Gay people? Your assumption that these are rational human beings that base their world view and attitudes on facts seems to be highly misplaced. This is the crowd that rejects evolution, believes in rapture, does not believe in global warming, believes that life begins ... never mind!!

These are the folks that get their news from FAUX, facts don't matter in their world. Facts are just an irrelevant nuisance, and they can and should be changed to support their view of the world. One has to admire their ingenuity in terms of what they can come up with as explanations. It doesn't matter that there is a gaping abyss between the building blocks of logic they use. What use do "facts" have for people who have "faith"? Faith trumps facts, truthiness trumps truth in their world! Have you folks at BuzzFlash ever met this crowd? They're downright crazy!! I'll tell y'all a little story, something that happened a few years back.

I was having lunch with a few friends when a middle-aged lady approached us. She knew one of my friends, and asked if she could join us, to which no one had any objections. After the initial PC, the conversation turned to religion. Now out of the 4 of us, one was a devout Christian, another a Sunday worshipper, the third was a confused soul, he wasn't sure which religion to follow. She knew the devout guy, and she warmed quickly to the Sunday guy, and chastised him in a motherly fashion about not being devout enough. When she discovered the confused guy (you had to be there, I know this may not be grammatically correct, but her eyes lit up like she had discovered that she could cure some deadly disease!!), she started an earnest conversation with him. Subsequently, she organized a special Church lunch for him, gave him a free Bible, called him for weeks, offered to give him a ride to Church in the evening etc. My friend eventually (4 weeks) got tired of her pestering him, and finally told her to leave him alone. As for me, I was quickly discarded and ignored after I told her that I was an atheist.

Buzz, it is amazing to watch these people in real life. Their fervor and passion is unexplainable, the conviction they have in their belief based purely on faith is mind boggling, the time they are willing to spend on one single possible future convert makes politics look like child's play. Additionally, their belief that those who are not Christians will be Satan's guests is absolute. It's hard to even react to such people, I am frequently torn between laughing and beating my brains out on observing such dogmatic folks. I say this half in jest, but maybe y'all (Buzz and readers) should try spending a week amongst the "chosen"' ones ... it's just about guaranteed to be a life changing experience!!

PS: Just heard that the Dems want to inject religion in order to appeal to the evangelicals. That, in my view, is akin to giving the Democratic Party a lethal injection.

Subject: Rush...Mailbag...Joseph Caucci

The first thing I asked when Rush was held for so long...was, is someone going to test the pills to make sure they are Viagra? I think Rush can just joke his life away about Viagra...also if he pulled a swift one on the authorities!

And, to Joseph Caucci...yeah...right...every single democratic leader is a wimp...from the time the WTC was attacked...bombed...hit...whatever you want to call it...I suspected there was a lot more to it. I knew there was...it was the right wing's "new Pearl Harbor"...sure, I told everyone I knew...and I had a family who would not even speak to me for years. Now, that is not easy on you when you are a grandmother...but, I just knew something was amiss! The date was a give away... 911???...it happened much too soon after Bush actually was given the job...and they rushed to start terrorist color alerts...and for months after...all we heard about was the Anthrax attack...that was in 2001...it is 5 years later, and we have caught neither (the anthrax killer, or the Al Qaeda bunch who supposedly took credit for the attack!).

The right wingers who have ruled ever since, even if they did not win, the super new Diebold machines were fixed so they would...we all know that in Florida, it was fixed...also in Ohio...their version of the "Downing Street Memo." So, what is so hard to understand...why are we such wimps...tell me, please! What is one middle-aged woman in Missouri going to do alone!? I do not have one person who agrees with me to the point of marching on anything...protesting anything...if I do these things, and I do, once in a while...I have no one with me...and am looked down on. Many people will agree with me, but they know to keep their mouths shut.

My relatives live in Greene County, Mo. Know where that is? It is Ashcroft country...Blunt country...no one, but no one in Green County puts a bumper sticker on their car...unless it is for a right winger. I DO!!!! I have sported my Kerry/Edwards sticker to this day...even through a redneck truck driver attempted to tear it off! I have lost a number of yellow ribbons, the ones that say, "pray for the troops"...the righties do not like those...they do not want us to pray for the troops...they want us to 'Support the Troops,' which we do in every way. I lost a brother in Vietnam...I know how to support a troop. I live in St. Louis...much more Democratic, but you still have to watch that occasional right wing who does not like you to be what they call, "Un-patriotic"! That means...that we should pray at the feet of Bush...and take everything he says as gospel...never, ever doubt the word of Bush!

Well, sorry...I do...and I do not intend to stop.

On the other front...it looks like the cheating Diebold touch machines are doing their jobs. Chris Cannon won...and he was one of those who was on thin ice...Bush will fix it...he is in St. Louis tonight...for Jim Talent. You see, our president does not have to work, he just flies Air Force One all over the US at our expense...for his servants. Who...I wonder...is he gonna put in the White house seat? This one is a mystery!

Subject: Leak This

Hey Buzz,

Leaks? Bush is worried about leaks with regard to studying banks?

Just prior to the launching of Operation Whatchamacallit in Afghanistan, America’s coalition forces announced to the world that they would be attacking the taliban in a couple of days. They not only told everybody when they were coming, but they told everybody how many guys they were sending. They even broke the number of men each member of the coalition was sending. Hey we’re going to send in 11,000 guys!

This was announced by military officers not by some sneaky press guys. The statement caught my eye and, unless it was the taliban’s bowling night, I’m sure some of the those guys were thankful for the warning. Tighten up them lips, Georgie, they’re eavesdropping.

Subject: Attacking the press to rev up the GOP "base"

Why have Bush and Cheney been making such a fuss about the press's revelation that the United States and the international banking community have been monitoring, tracking and blocking the international financial activities of terrorists?

Thirteen days after 9/11, Bush issued an Executive Order on Terrorist Financing -- which can be read on the White House website -- blocking the domestic and international financial transactions of terrorists, terrorist groups and anyone associated with terrorist groups.

The EO also states that Bush felt a need existed "for further consultation and cooperation with, and sharing of information by, United States and foreign financial institutions as an additional tool to enable the United States to combat the financing of terrorism."

Yes, it says, "foreign financial institutions." How much clearer could Bush's intent have been? He intended to seek cooperation with and information from "foreign financial institutions ... to combat the financing of terrorism."

In his Executive Order, Bush made it plain that the United Nations and countries around the world were cooperating with the United States in tracking and blocking the financial activities of terrorists.

The concluding 'bullet point" of the White House website's "Fact Sheet on Terrorist Financing Executive Order" [Sept. 24, 2001] states that our government is "working with our allies around the world to tackle the financial underpinnings of terrorism. We are working through the G-8 and the United Nations. Already, several of our allies, including Switzerland and Britain, have frozen accounts of suspected terrorists."

The information is on the White House webpage, for gosh sakes, and has been public knowledge for five years. Did Bush and Cheney think the terrorists couldn't read?

The Bush-Cheney cries of outrage are nothing more than the Republican "noise machine" trying to rev up the Republican "base."

Subject: Thank You, C. A. Hillestad (Mailbag writer)

Think about it. Is there anything in Progressive philosophy that cannot be encompassed in the “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” phrase? Everything from caring for the ill, the aged, the young, the poor and the downtrodden to trying diplomacy before bombing fits well within it. It is the foundation for women's rights, civil rights, balancing of powers and judicial review. It’s a justification for impeachment, since the Golden Rule implies accountability. And, it does not preclude saving jobs, saving money or self defense. Even more esoteric concepts, such as leaving the environment we all live in pristine and protecting its flora and fauna for the future, in their essence, are within the idea that both we as individuals and our government should strive to be Good Samaritans.

You are sooooooooooo correct.

Subject: Is It Just Me Or Is Dumbya Sounding a Whole Lot Like Hitler?

Ok, so we all know that the bush family has profited from wars since they climbed from beneath the original rock. (not capitalized as a sign of contempt for them)

We know their legacy of war profits dates back years. We also know that prescott bush and thyssen helped finance Hitler's rise to power.* We know that in October 1942 they had their assets frozen for violation of the Trading with the Enemy Act. We know that dumbya's daddy had to join the Navy to help sanitize the family name. We know that the bush's, duponts, fords, thyssen families loved the Nazis and supported them both financially and in belief.

Given all that, and our history classes. Recalling some of the speeches Hitler gave, how he cultivated fear, hate and intolerance they bear a striking similarity to the calls to hate of this so-called administration.

We see the parallels between dumbya’s policies and Hitler's. How both had domestic terror attacks that rallied the citizens behind them. Hitler blamed the Jews for all his woes, dumbya blames the Gays, Muslims, advocates for free speech fairness and democracy and most recently the press for his woes. In reality dumbya’s woes come from his policies and hatred for the Constitution. If you take proper care of the policy, you don't have to spin the message.

But lately his venom sounds more and more like Hitler’s. Dumbya ignores/breaks all the inconvenient laws he does not like. We know this is an impeachable offense, yet no one is ready to remove him and his partners in treason.

We know dumbya is actively building/maintaining concentration camps here and abroad. And that Halliburton just got a $385 million contract to build MORE of them.

All this leads me to the conclusion that it will not be long before all those that this little flying monkey deems against him will soon be in those concentration camps. We all know if he chooses, you can go missing for years and years, subjected to torture or even murdered. We saw Hitler do the same, and in the beginning Hitler started small and we saw how power corrupted him. We saw how he eventually murdered tortured millions in the name of the Homeland - uh - fatherland.

How long until we all see the many similarities between the 1940’s Nazis and dumbya? Dumbya really gets bent out of shape when you call him a Nazi - the truth is, it's the only thing that seems to hurt him. How long until we do something? And finally, will it be too late when we do?

If you don’t speak up when others suffer, don’t expect anyone to speak up when you are the focus of their hatred.

“An injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” - Rev. Martin Luther King

“The constitution is just a Godd***ed piece of paper.” - Dumbya

“There ought to be limits to freedom.” - Dumbya 1999

And we all remember dumbya making fun of the woman pleading not to be executed when he was governor of Texas. And we all know that he is responsible for more executions than any other governor in history.

I do also believe this is the only p-Resident in history that is caught on camera many times giving the finger to the press.

We also know he is responsible for at least 2500 plus deaths of our young soldiers. We know he is directly responsible for the senseless torture and detainment of many, and the cold blooded murder of several.

Had enough yet? I have. I fully support the freeway blogger - impeach him in the streets.

I know the FBI/CIA is listening to my phone conversations, looking at my bank records and e-mails. And I still say F*** dumbya.

Subject: The Indecency of Swiftboating

An American soldier died in Iraq today. But then an American soldier dies most days in Iraq. His friends, his band of brothers salute as he leaves the field of battle this one last time. His close friends fight back tears.

Will one of these friends, one of these American soldiers find himself in a like situation as that of Congressman John Murtha or Senator John Kerry if they decide to run for public office some day? Will their service be denigrated? Will their medals be questioned? Will they find themselves trying to counter lies about where they served, what they did and what they saw?

This Rovian attack on former military personnel is meant to counter the honest information that few in the Bush administration ever served anywhere that anyone might have fired a shot in their direction. It is not only dishonest, it is despicable. When a blowhard like Bill O’Reilly claims to have been in combat and then attacks John Murtha it becomes a national disgrace.

My father served in the United States Army during WWII and raised me with a respect and gratitude for those who serve. He would have been appalled at how former servicemen are being disrespected. He would have been appalled at the near silence from veterans.

People who have served their country should never have to withstand attacks from cowardly little twerps who can only do battle with their mouths. Veterans everywhere need to send a message to Rove and his acolytes that they attack other vets at their peril. Politics be damned. When someone had your back I doubt you gave a damn if they were a Democrat or a Republican. If you don’t bother to support your own, then shut up about this “Band of Brothers” bull. Subject: Losing Faith

I was beyond upset when Ralph Nader muddied the presidential waters in 2000 and potentially cost Gore the election. Didn't he realize that we were facing a REAL threat that required a unified front? At that moment Nader went from a personal hero to just another ego driven individual more concerned with his own (versus our nation's) success. Six years later I'm no longer so sure.

Today I feel less hopeful than ever regarding the Democratic Party's chances of winning ANYTHING in November. In fact I'm actually thinking of withdrawing from the party and going green.

If we're going to be whipped again I might as well support a (nascent) party that actually stands for something, rather than one that "triangulates."

If the Democrats can't win this November with all the ammunition the GOP has provided, then this party is irrelevant and deserves to become a footnote in history.

Thank the Supreme Court for the possibility of absolute chaos in redistricting. Even Republican pundits are appalled. Perhaps they see that what they did in Texas could turn on them. Ya think?

It was laughable when Republican Strategist Ed Rollins voiced his fears of this redistricting chaos on Lou Dobbs Tonight. Ditto when Republican Strategist Ed Rogers voiced the same fears on Hardball. It must have something to do with the fear of having to reap what you sow.

Congratulations to the Corporate Supreme Court that is more interested in allowing Republicans free rein in their never ending attempts to steal votes they cannot get honestly. However some Republicans are smart enough to see that these same tactics can be used against them.

The Robert’s Court has pretty much turned out to be the horror that we thought it would be and Alito is just as vile as we thought he was. Everybody must live with a Supreme Court that conservatives wanted so that they could force other people to conform to their religious beliefs.

Some Republicans have finally awakened to the reality that you should be careful what you wish for; you just might get it.

Oh and when those cops are breaking into your house, with a search warrant but without announcing themselves, I really doubt if they will ask if you voted for the Pinhead in the White House. Send thank you cards to those conservative Justices you wanted so very much.
