I am listening to our illustrious excuse for a president in his news conference. A reporter asks a question and he looks down at his podium and says, "Let's see now, they've told me what to say." I burst out in incredulous laughter and run to tell my husband (who can not bear to listen or look at the man-child.) Want to bet this will quickly be expunged from the speech and will fall down the rabbit hole? Bet old Karl almost wet his pants. With any luck, Letterman and Jon Stewart will put in all over the tv and the bloggers will do the same. I'll bet this is the first honest remark he has ever made! Sandy Subject: I've Made My Choice Dear BuzzFlash: In your Headline Editorial, "Make the Choice," you call upon not only BuzzFlash readers, liberals and progressives, but all Americans to either stand up to the most destructive, deceptive, manipulative Presidency in the history of our country or end up on the wrong side of history. Of course I'm with you BuzzFlash and have been from the beginning. Although it isn't much I've made my contributions to getting out the truth about the Bush Administration through Letters to the Editor, writing my Congressmen and Senators and participating in Progressive forums. I do this because as you point out so concisely in your editorial, it is about choice. Americans can either do nothing while the despots destroy our country and our social, economic and political fabric from within, or we can stand up, tell the truth and dare to talk back. As I have often told my partner I suspect that speaking out and being unafraid to call it as I see it has put me on a government watch list, but I don't care because I understand exactly what it is that you, BuzzFlash, are telling us 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. I understand that we are on the verge of losing all of our freedoms to an administration that has morphed into a regime, to a president that assumes the powers of a dictator and to an institutionalized notion that "might makes right" even when we have volumes of historical evidence to prove otherwise. So stay with the message BuzzFlash because you are making a difference. The tide is turning and you are helping to turn it. Every day we bear witness to the awakening of more and more of our fellow citizens. Soon those of us who have dared to speak truth to power for the past 5 years will be seen for who we are, patriots. Carolyn K. Ball Please, Mr. President, if Tal Afar is so safe, go there and walk down the town's main street. Don't tell us, show us! From the reality-based-community, Paul A. Moore Subject: Another D-day? I could be wrong, but I get the feeling that this "Operation Swarmer" was meant to be a replication of the D-Day invasion of Normandy, France in 1944. Am I the only person who thinks the Bush administration was hoping that the media would equate this mission with that famous, and successful, event of World War II? If that is what Bush and company intended, then I'm afraid they failed miserably. But, what else is new? George W. Bush fails miserably at everything he does! Operation Swarmer turned out to be much ado about nothing and it accomplished absolutely zero. Shirley D. Jackson Subject: "V For Vendetta" Movement. Is there anyone of the 'buzzers' out there who is enterprising enough to make "V for Vendetta" car magnets or the "V" masks? I just saw the movie and i think it would be great to start a "V" movement in this country. I would love to see the next peace protest produce a sea of "V" masks in front of the WH. The "V" insignia magnets or posters are great to get the dittoheads inquisitive enough to ask what they mean. When they ask, tell them to go see the movie. It was great and very inspiring!!! Where can I buy a mask? Homer Hooker Subject: Very Funny Bush Impersonator 3/20 Thank you....thank you..thank you.!! After times of deep worry....serious worry caused by this man and his criminal bunch....I finally got the last laugh. Most troubling is the fact that when I watch him speaking for real? I laugh...I am not sure that is right! In reality....Bush the Prez...is almost as silly as the impersonator. Shirley Subject: Other Alternatives Our young people who are not college bound and have no real prospects have traditionally joined the military to help with their transition. The military offers some travel, money for college, discomfort, humiliation and death or dismemberment. I think that there are better choices. Instead of assisting our government in death and destruction why not join the Peace Corps or if it is travel that they want instead of going to the worst places on earth why not go to the best? Cruise ships go to the best places on earth. Instead of being in the mud and heat they can enjoy clean air-conditioned working conditions. Discourage your children from being one of King George's mercenaries. There are alternatives. After all it is unlikely that your child will be required to kill someone while in the service of Carnival Cruise Lines. Austin Kuder [BuzzFlash Note: Most volunteers accepted to serve in the Peace Corps have a college degree. Cruise jobs waiting tables start at $900 a month ... and many cruise jobs seem to go to foreign workers.] Subject: That's Not Right Charlie... I hope you guys have a Tivo on Brzezinski interview on Charlie Rose. He calmly sliced up every piece of the Neocon proposition. Rose is kind of a snake - a la Brooks - in that he seems moderate but actually pushes the New Republic type of war mongering. When he gets rocked back by a guest he starts using arm gestures that are sort of a mild version of poking a finger in someone's chest. So with Zbig his reflexes were showing again. He kept verbally restating points to assert the neo con position and Zbig kept correcting the statements in a great way. Some of the best lines were ... 'That's not right Charlie' and re nation building a) we have no track record b) when charlie said the issue is competence, told him that no track record also addresses competence and then used the truth ... the word 'arrogance' in connection to those who want to remake some nation. Just a great session...and for all his policy errors, we do know that Zbig's early academic work was about the dominance of an empire that crushed eastern Europe. He understands the legacy of Trotsky and the same criminals that are in the W.H. today. A BuzzFlash Reader good god! i am watching that keith olbermann show and it showed bush saying he never linked saddam and 9-11................then they showed the state of the union address from 2003 doing just that! jesus god! we have reached a point where bush just tells one lie after the other now and it's just expected! A BuzzFlash Reader Subject: well then who did? George Bush says he never linked 9-11 and the war in Iraq. well then who did? I mean since a poll showed 70% of the country thought Saddam was responsible for 9-11. There was even one of those stupid country western songs linking the two. da Subject: The Belarus Election To the members of the Bush Administration and especially its "Diplomatic Corps" - Why don't you people just "stifle it"? You don't know what a fair election is if you could see it and the whole world knows you stole the last two elections and that you are ruining the America that we still love but don't know anymore, you worthless hypocrites! GIVE IT UP on your opinions of what freedom is, we don't want to hear it! You wouldn't know it if you saw it and hit you in the face! - Someone who truly loves their country. (You sure don't!) A BuzzFlash Reader Subject: The Interminable War and the Blackmail of the American People It is high time that we let the Iraqi military handle now what is going on in Iraq. I have heard from other sources that the American people have been lied to and that their military has been equipped militarily to protect their own country now but the Pentagon still continues to make military facilities to stay there indefinitely. This must stop now and the unnecessary killings of American soldiers and squandering of billions upon billions of dollars that we do not have! The Iraqis can take care of their own security now! One other thing we have been lied to about is the price of gas and natural gas. We were told that the price of these commodities would have to go up due to a shortage when Hurricane Katrina hit. Now that winter weather is just about gone sources say otherwise that there was plenty of natural gas this winter to fuel homes. How many people in America died, got needlessly ill, had to get hospitalized, almost froze to death, had to go without food, medicines, utilities, go into debt or suffer in other ways on account of the higher prices? This is the blackmailing of America and it needs to stop right now--it is out of control. We need to put controls on the greed that is running rampant in military, corporate, and even the medical industry in America. A BuzzFlash Reader Subject: Gore-Feingold In 2008. Enough said! How will the status quo dems, repubs, rapturites (new word) and corporate media stop them? Lawton Watson Subject: Dust Atop the Mountain THE CIA AND THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION CLEARLY KNEW THROUGH IRAQ'S OWN FOREIGN MINISTER THAT SADDAM HUSSEIN DID NOT POSSES WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION Wow, all this on NBC Nightly News! What's next, reporting on the Downing Street Memos? How about reporting on "The Project for a New American Century?" Wouldn't that be something? They could highlight the stated motivations for war by the senior members of this administration years before 9/11. Maybe they could interview the men and women who were on the ground in Iraq in 1991 and ask them if they saw thousands of tons of weapons being destroyed? As part of the report they could go back and interview the U.N. weapons inspectors who, despite surprise inspections, found nothing. Who knows, maybe they could even report on the debilitating sanctions that crippled Iraq for 12 years? They could report on how those sanctions rendered the Iraqi government powerless to even feed their own people. Hey, they could even do an entire expose on how our government imposed a no-fly zone on the skies directly above Iraqi soil and how Iraq wasn't even a threat to countries directly abutting it. But the truth is that this NBC report is but particles of dust atop the overwhelming mountain of evidence that is already available for any thinking person to conclude that WE WERE AND CONTINUE TO BE LIED TO BY OUR GOVERNMENT! Iraqi diplomat gave U.S. prewar WMD details: Saddam’s foreign minister told CIA the truth, so why didn’t agency listen? (Aram Roston, Lisa Myers, MSNBC) The Indy Voice Subject: A bankrupt administration, in every sense of the word Dear Buzzers -- Bankruptcy is a sore issue with me these days. If anyone thinks we're not being spied on, every time I send an email (to a friend) mentioning my financial problems -- this computer is dying, and without it I won't be able to earn a living -- I get at least 20 (in the course of a day) emails from strangers either advising me to FILE for bankruptcy or to "borrow" at some exorbitant interest rate; in short, we are ALL being spied on electronically. At least those of us who do more than read our horoscopes and order Oprah's Hoodia over the Internet. Anyway, that started me thinking about the Busheviks. They are bankrupting our country morally, ethically, strategically, ideologically, environmentally, and -- in the literal sense -- monetarily. They are already out of ideas on how to deal with the Iraq situation -- except to pour even more already thinly stretched, under-equipped, exhausted troops into a sinkhole, killing more Iraqi civilians in the process. Oh, and then to divert our attention from what's happening by (a) invading Iran "preemptively" (haha -- read "oil" and "more profits for Halliburton" here), and (b) to borrow more funds to be wasted in a clearly fruitless and pointless effort and make the poor and powerless pay the price by sacrificing the already underfinanced (and shrinking every day, it seems) programs that keep roofs over their heads and food on their tables -- and that provide child-care assistance that "allow" the disenfranchised poor to meet public assistance requirements by working full time (and unpaid overtime) at minimum-wage (or below; if mandatory overtime requirements aren't met, then obviously the quoted minimum wage is considerably lower than it looks on paper. I'm thinking primarily Wal-Mart (run by a bunch of billionaires, of course) here, but there are plenty of other offenders without the clout but with the same malevolent intentions. Meanwhile, the "borrow and spend" formula continues. When will the neocon/ Busheviks finally realize how thin the ice that they're standing on really IS? Sort of like the shrinking glaciers, the results of which are drowning polar bears...not to mention Katrina victims. Cutting off financial aid and evicting diaspora-ed people from the motels/hotels that this assministration so "compassionately" (irony intended) put them in while shipping in trailers with no running water or electricity is an outrage to ANYONE with a heart and a mind. Or EITHER. Oh -- I almost forgot China. This gang (the neocon/Busheviks) can't seem to get it through their heads that China has us over a barrel; i.e., it wouldn't take much for them to dump the dollar, once they have enough other economic partners, and send our entire economy crashing. I'm hardly an economist, but I can read the warning signs on the wall. And it doesn't look GOOD!! They are also bankrupting our next generation(s). As I asked the other day, where do they expect to find the troops to fight the endless series of wars they seem to have on the drawing boards right now? The other day, I suggested "recruiting" kindergarteners and nursery schoolers. If they're STILL short on troops, they'll start raiding nursing homes. But I smell a draft in the winds -- with neocon/Bushevik kin exempted, of course -- and the smell frankly STINKS. Even worse, if that's possible -- if all else fails, we'll have a conveniently timed "terrorist attack" as the November elections approach. The ports are a ripe target: i.e., the opposition to turning control of them over to Dubai will be used to make cannon fodder of Dem/liberal/progressive/rational Republicans who stuffed this blatant scheme. We Buzzers KNOW these people -- I mean the neocon Busheviks -- and I'm sure we also know what they're capable of. Meanwhile, the *ssh*le-in-Chief runs around the country, in front of friendly audiences lobbing softball questions, and STILL sounds like a blithering idiot who has no clue as to what's really going on. (Well, DUHHH.) Well, no WONDER we're (meaning those who control our nation) bankrupt in every sense of the word. We need some potent strategies to bail ourselves out before it's too late. Which means very, VERY fast!! Barbara Lee (Barb) Blazyk Subject: Hurricane Katrina Relief I just wanted to say thanks to Randi Rhodes and the folks at Air America for teaming with Habitat for Humanity to help our fellow Americans in the battered Gulf Coast region. There's a link from Randi's website that offers a couple of ways to help. Check it out, it seems like a great way to assist those in need. http://www.therandirhodesshow.com/ Joe Rabener Subject: Will the Republicans preserve the Constitution or not? Dear Buzz, I have heard a chorus of Republican voices saying Senator Russ Feingold's senate motion to censure the president for breaking the FISA law and violating the Constitution, which requires the president to "take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed," will result in uniting the Republicans. If the Republicans really want to go on record as not believing the president is obliged to comply with our Constitution or obey the laws enacted by Congress, then we should shout that message to the rooftops: "The Republicans want the president to be a law-breaker and a Constitution violator." Is that truly the message the Republicans are happy living with? They will go to the mat to save and protect a Republican president who is violating the Constitution and breaking federal laws? If the president actually believes the Constitution of the United States became obsolete or irrelevant after 9/11, why did he, at his second inauguration, put his hand on the Bible and swear to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States"? A BuzzFlash Reader Subject: Sliding percentages hey buzz... the way i see it just under 50% of americans have a clue about what's really going on. there is another group of fence straddling wingnuts whose perception is swayed by the winds of fear and misinformation. check the polls...bush support has dipped from 51% to 33%...these twenty percenters are running the country. maybe it's time for broadsheets and pamphlets...yeah, i know....who's gonna read 'em?...until the mainstream reverts to reporting the news, we are doomed...maybe a couple of enlightened football or nascar analysts could help spread the word. tom coombs Subject: Bush's Orwellian Doublespeak Just read your Editorial regarding Bush's use of "mirroring" 9-11 and Saddam in statements---using Orwellian techniques to mislead and make false connections. In Bush's news conference this morning, amazingly, when Helen Thomas questioned Bush about his reason for going to war with Iraq, Bush moved right into the same programmed linguistics described in this editorial. HE's still doing it ! It needs to be told EVERY TIME THAT MAN LIES to the media and not left to hang there uncountered to stand as TRUTH.....because we know now too many Americans CAN BE FOOLED----even the U. S. Congress and Senate----so thanks Buzz For spot-lighting the TRUTH about our great leader (Dictator). Jean Turley Subject: Impeachment The New Mexico Democratic Party has a spine! We are calling for the removal of Bush from office. I can breathe again. Susan |
