The BuzzFlash Mailbag The opinions expressed in the Mailbag are not necessarily those of BuzzFlash. More reader opinion is at "Contributors." You can write to Mailbag at http://www.BuzzFlash.com/contact/mail.html. Guidelines for submissions are at BuzzFlash FAQ #18. THIS IS PART 2 OF THE FEBRUARY 28, 2006 BUZZFLASH MAILBAG. CLICK HERE FOR PART 1 [BuzzFlash Note: Many of today's letters reference our editorial, There is No Choice "C" in the Battle to Restore Democracy to America, and our Saturday email alert. Thanks for your response.] Subject: Dubai and Repug Flip Flopping Frist is now going to go home and explain the Dubai deal to his constituents and help them understand. Lindsay Graham will be next to have a thoughtful turnaround. Just like with CAFTA America simply cannot survive without the Dubai Port deal. Wonder if the Bush family has ever considered moving to the UAE? Lawton Watson Subject: Impeachment or Exorcism? It is getting to look like, through the govt.'s love affair with torture, that we don't need to impeach, but exorcise the White House. A BuzzFlash Reader Subject: Dubai Guess what President Bush; Corporate and political greed trumps security and political savvy in the U.S. It is widely believed that the next and deadliest terrorist attack will come to the shores of the USA in a cargo container. After this latest cursory and patronising review of the Dubai deal no matter which terminal or terminal operator is involved, right or wrong, the blame will fall on your administration no matter who is in office. Don Montgomery Subject: Don't Change a Thing Dear Buzz, Sorry I got a little behind on my reading and missed that some subscribers are canceling because you are “too hard on Bush.” These folks obviously wandered into a truth corner and just couldn’t understand what was going on. After all, for 5 endless years we have had to hear one idiot after another try and make this mediocre little jerk into some kind of Great Man. Chris Matthews on Thursday compared him to Atticus Finch for crying out loud. Please do not change. Those of us who come here for truth would be lost without you. (I feel like I am writing a letter to a lost love.) Your faithful readers love you just the way you are. Don’t change. This is home. This is a family. Those who left have to do as suits them. Just don’t let them come here and change what we have. I just wish I was as rich as George Soros. I would smother you in a bazillion dollars. As it is I am unemployed and can only offer you my admiration. Thank you for being here for us. Marjorie L. Swanson [BuzzFlash Note: Gee, we hope someday you have the winning lottery ticket! (We know, you probably are too reality-based to throw money away on the lottery. That's okay, too.)] Subject: U.S. Ports Watch out soon that the ports in the U.S. are not part of the deal with the U.A.E., and KBR, Carlyle or some other Crony U.S. group, takes over the control of the U.S. ports part of the deal with "the Best Interest of National (corporate ) Security" ... Yeah Right(wing). A BuzzFlash Reader Dear BuzzFlash Editor: Do not change BuzzFlash. It is the voice of reason and freedom! I subscribe to your daily alerts - and read every one - including your web page. You cannot say enough about the Bush administration - and what they have done to our county. How can the Democrats not be screaming from the housetops - on every tv news program - every front page of every newspaper in the county - it is beyond belief that all we hear is wimpy, apologetic comments and then they all fall into the Rove, GOP, Bush trap! Hey, I was alive during WWII - my brother fought in the Battle of the Bulge, etc. My husband was a Navy pilot - and every day I cry when more of our courageous military are killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our military is being decimated (thanks to Rummy, et al.) - and may never recover. The families have suffered enough - time to end that conflict and bring them home. The Iraqis and Afghans must take over their countries and sink or swim with the results. Keep up the good work. You are a voice crying in the wilderness of this administration! Ruth Goodwin Subject: BuzzFlash Too Harsh...? Yeah, Right...! Hey there Happy Buzzers... Although many folks have written in already to lend support to the BuzzFlash staff for all they do... "harsh" as it is. "Harsh" is what we need...! If only the politicians in Washington were "harsh" perhaps more people would be informed of the dire crisis in our country! Think the current administration is worried about being "harsh" on our Constitution? Heck no! They've gotten "harsh" and "cynical" all over "that damned piece of paper." Well, it's not a "damned piece of paper" to me... or anyone here, I believe... it's the foundation of our country and who we are! Keep it up, BuzzFlash...! You are a light in a dark room...! Thanks for all you do...! Karen Of The Desert Subject: What If FDR Sold Our Ports to the Japanese After Pearl Harbor? Hi BuzzFlash Readers, The year is 1942-1943 and WW II is still going on, with brutal attacks breaking out. The Japanese had just attacked Pearl Harbor back on December 7th, 1941. With TODAY'S Republicans in Congress back then, Congress just found out that FDR has made a secret deal with the Japanese to sell the Pearl Harbor ports along with all our ports along the West Coast. Now - do you think for one minute that we would be hearing Lapdogs Hastert and Frist, along with all the other Republicans on their short dog leashes, saying "the deal looks great to them"? Or - would we be seeing Impeachment proceedings starting at once to be followed by a public lynching of FDR?? And these are Karl Rove's "Post-9/11 Lapdog Republicans" who are running Congress? Yes, siree Karl, you’re “real concerned” about National Security! Mayday! Mayday! Tom Wieliczka Subject: BF Wings Should Go to Lou Dobbs Buzz, Lou was just WONDERFUL tonight-the guy who voted for Bush is now trying to take him down....WOW. In all fairness LOU DOBBS should get your reward of the week....tune in.. Dubai, (Ports issue) want CNN to shut Dobbs up but CNN said 'F...U' to Dubai...Lou came out swinging tonight with the backing of his bosses ...are the tables beginning to turn with the Media???? Margaret Miller Subject: White House Briefing-Scott McClellan Do any of you watch that comedian Scott McClellan? I must say, sometimes these White House briefings are so full of bs, they have to make you laugh. Today, I caught a new phrase they are using now, instead of the so-called spying on Americans, it is now called "TERRORIST SURVEILLANCE PROGRAM." New words, to draw away from the fact they have been spying on Americans. So I guess, now, that all Americans are considered terrorists? http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/02/20060227-1.html A BuzzFlash Reader Subject: Time Magazine: Cheney's 'Thousand Yard Stare' After Shooting BULLSH*T! This really toasts my ass - here's what I posted on the DemocraticUnderground, and many people are responding to it, it's a total outrage, and I think that Veterans would go nuts over this and pepper TIME over it. Here's what I posted and the link: Time Magazine: Cheney had 'thousand yard stare' after "It was perhaps the most eloquent, emotionally unguarded moment from the notoriously buttoned-up Vice President. He seemed stunned, uncertain for once. And the haunted look in his eyes reminded me of what soldiers in Vietnam used to call the thousand-yard stare--the paralytic..." THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE INSULT TO ALL THOSE THAT WENT TO VIETNAM - and as a Vietnam Era Veteran I find this to be one of the SLIMIEST Spin doctoring I've yet to see, to compare Cheney's inability to tell the difference between an 8 inch BIRD and a 6 foot tall HUMAN BEING, to REAL MEN who FOUGHT, DIED and were scared S***LESS most of the time, laying around in jungles, rats the size of cats gnawing on them, trenchboot rotting off their feet, no sleep, a sniper behind every LEAF for months or YEARS, NEVER SLEEPING is a god*** insult of the HIGHEST ORDER. HOW DARE they say something like this!? HOW DARE THEY? Son of a b***h Chickenhawk who got FIVE deferments because he had "other options" or whatever the hell excuse he made. ALL of my friends who went to Nam came back so jumpy that if a car backfired they'd take the SKIN OFF THEIR CHEST, MANY of them never really "slept" again, not ONE good Night's SLEEP - if they didn't sleep with ONE EYE OPEN ALL NIGHT, they'd sleep with TWO eyes open - a few of them looked like they were actually DEAD laying there napping with both eyes open. My own brother came back from Nam and punched my 11 year old sister in the FACE when she just walked into the room. I ask ALL Vets that read this to write to this mag or these writers and DEMAND some kind of RETRACTION or Explanation, or APOLOGY. The gloves are OFF, bad enough they downplay the whole shooting but to compare this PUTZ to WARTIME, COMBAT Veterans is an ABOMINATION. Comparing a "Post Traumatic Syndrome" HELL, that these men go through for the rest of their lives, to this pasty faced, fat, alcoholic POS - Crossed eyes from being DRUNK off your ass is no comparison. My wife called it "Beer Goggles." Please send this information to ALL the Veteran's groups you can so that hundreds of Vets can clog up TIME's mailbox, and I'll do the same. this needs to be on Olbermann. This needs to be a big STINK. Anyone got Klein's email addy? I want a piece of his ASS. I worked in a Veteran's Hospital after Nam, and I took care of HUNDREDS of men that had MORE than the "Thousand yard stare," they'd literally been driven CRAZY by war, so this touches a big fat nerve with me. Sorry, but this put me over the edge. Thanks, this just totally is beyond the pale. Best, A BuzzFlash Reader Subject: A response to Ruth Lopez's letter re anger from Buzz and Buzzers Dear Buzzers -- I'm happy that Ruth is talking civilly and rationally with her right-wing neighbor. However, on the larger scene we're faced with today, calm, rational "discussions" will simply not stem the tide of antidemocratic, antiConstitutional, power-and-wealth driven neocons and their puppets. Keeping us progressive (relative) peasants in our place is what this administration is all about. Does Ruth REALLY believe the the Repukelicans will LISTEN to us if we speak to them calmly and rationally? If so, I've got news for her: their spin machine operates 24/7. If we don't stand up for our principles -- and righteous anger (along with pointing out what should be obvious, but obviously is NOT -- we'll be steam rolled. I just read the review of the book about Thomas Paine (a Buzz premium that I wish I could afford to buy! Unfortunately, I can't. But I recommend it to any of you Buzzers who CAN!) Thomas Paine, like Buzz, was accused of being "shrill and angry" -- and discredited by the Federalists. The same thing is happening today: i.e., the rich and powerful want to write us off as nut cases, carried away by our own emotional (as in gut) responses to injustices that should be obvious to anything with an IQ above that of a common garden weed. And, yes, I realize that many of us will pay the price -- as Paine did -- for speaking out. However, I believe that we should use the ever-narrowing window while we still CAN speak out. There is NO COMPROMISING with the neocons and their coalition (not to mention Dubya, "Big Game Hunter" Cheney, Rummy, Condi, et. al. As my Grandma used to say, "Give them an inch and they'll take a yard." Unfortunately, they've taken about a million MILES by now. And if we don't fight back, they'll take...and take...until there's nothing left for the rest of us. Or of our country and of Thomas Paine's vision of what our Constitution meant. Please, Buzz -- stay "shrill and angry." (I am too!) We may all hang (as in being stuffed, clad in orange jumpsuits and stuffed into that tin crate at Gitmo) ourselves, but at least we'll go down fighting, as Paine did. I apologize to Ruth Lopez if my comments offend her, but I maintain my position: If we don't fight back, who WILL? I appreciate her good intentions (as in talking calmly with her neighbor) -- but we're not in a fair fight here. Being "shrill and angry" (as Buzz has been accused of being) is, unfortunately, the only way we can make ourselves heard right now. (No, of course not heard by the powers that be -- but by others who might be energized by our voices -- and moved to action. That's what Thomas Paine tried to do -- and he DID, ultimately, make a difference.) We need to carry on his tradition. As I've said many times, if WE don't speak out, who WILL? Barbara Lee (Barb) Blazyk Subject: Thanks for Your Hard Work I truly appreciate the work that you are doing. My personal opinion is that "shrill" and "angry" are exactly what is needed right now. But to be honest, I don't find you to be too shrill or angry. Aside from the opinion pieces, you seem to just be referring us to news articles published in relatively mainstream media. I watch in awe as I witness the demise of the America of my childhood and I wonder what it is going to take to wake up the citizens of this nation. I think you are on the right track for helping restore this nation to a bastion of freedom and human rights. Please keep up the good work, and thank you again. A BuzzFlash Reader Subject: BuzzFlash Website I find your news is not only the truth, but actually reported a long time before Brain Williams can figure out how to suck up to Bush. NBC spends more time spinning the news than doing good old fashioned reporting. If they did so, Bush would be toast. The same is true of CBS, CNN, and ABC. And I will not even touch FOX. Hubert Warford Subject: A.M. Stew Good morning, Buzz, and, hi to all subscribers! :) Judging from the volume of mail from those responding to "There is no Choice C...", I'd believe you've GAINED rather than LOST subscribers! If that indeed is the case, then....that's fantastic!!! I tell friends and acquaintances about your site all the time; I'm surprised because, though they're all right-thinking liberals (NOT a contradiction in terms), they've never heard of you. Well...that is, until I've told them ;) Anyways, when I'd heard Dick Morris (the "toe sucker") on FOX go on about the "racism" of being against the UAE patrolling six of our ports, I thought I was going to vomit. We all know it has nothing to do with racism: it has to do with greasy palms. I swear there are people who'd sell their own parents and/or children for millions of dollars. That's what this Dubai port deal makes me think of: this administration selling their country. Am I wrong to think or feel this way? I can't help it, though. Also, regarding the Bethesda-Chevy Chase, MD high school's "Peace" course that some students are against because it's "one-sided": the WaPo had reported that the class has been taught since the late 1980s. Why the furor now? Are there voters (or even non-voters) so brainwashed and/or brain dead and THAT much in love with who THEY feel GWB is that ANYTHING even SLIGHTLY contradictory, let alone critical, about the administration and/or its policies and/or its agenda, is either Anti-American, traitorous, treasonous, or pro-terrorist???? One more thing: Check out the homepage for PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays). Representative Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) has sent a letter to the Dept. of Health and Human Services asking them WHY crucial health information that's important to gays, lesbians, bi's and transgenders was dropped from its otherwise user-friendly website. Well, what spurred her letter was that the Family Research Council (a shame...the ultra-right has claimed "family" issues as THEIRS. NOT GOOD, to say the least) claimed the information was too politically charged and went so far as to say that homophobia and heterosexism was bogus. The FRC even went so far as to imply that any health problems that Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals and Transgenders face is THEIR fault! Excuse me? Anyone who votes, pays taxes, contributes to society, whatever else...doesn't deserve health care information? No no no no no!!! Well *sigh*...that's what's in my A.M. stew pot this morning. Now, I think I'll have me a steaming hot cup of the stuff. It's going to be very cold here in Boston today. Thanks for reading. Lisa Navarro Subject: Some People Are Canceling BuzzFlash Dear BuzzFlash, "Some BuzzFlash alert readers have canceled their free subscriptions because they think that we are too cynical and too harsh on Bushevism." This is unfortunate and those people are misinformed and naive and they lost tremendously. But to get it out of my chest, I think BuzzFlash is partisan devoting much of its energy on attacking Bush and the "Repuglicans" which in my opinion is justified and warranted, but little energy attacking the co-defendants, the spineless and cowardly Democratic party and its corporate servant the DLC. You should devote some energy to populist issues like living wage jobs, healthcare, education, secure pensions, limiting corporate power, the problems of outsourcing jobs, tax cuts to the fabulously wealthy and uncontrolled immigration both legal and illegal. Also you should take a clear stand against the war, not how it is being conducted but demand an end to it with an exit strategy that brings our boys home. A BuzzFlash Reader Subject: Lou Dobbs Feeling Pressure even old lou dobbs is feeling the pressure from the U.A.E. they're trying to shut him up, is the mainstream media finally waking up? his coverage of this issue and his "on air vow" to keep the issue alive, has been a breath of fresh air. letter to lou dobbs, CNN Lou, yesterday you asked one of your reporters, if any one in this administration showed the slightest bit of embarrassment of their handling of the ports fiasco. Oh yes, they're red in the face all right. And you don’t want to embarrass this administration anyway. Just look what happened to Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill! Fired for daring to speak out publicly on Bush’s real timetable for invading Iraq. Former counter terrorism chief Richard Clarke, Fired for daring to say that Bush’s handling of terrorism and Iraq was “deeply irresponsible” and “flat out wrong.” Joseph Wilson and Valerie Plame accurately accused the Bush administration of manipulating intelligence in order to create a case for war with Iraq. All of those good people's names and reputations dragged through the mud for speaking out for the Security of the United States of America. In the Bush White House, there is an obvious use of bullying tactics that the American public seems to let this administration get away with. In all agencies, or in the news media, if you’re a critic and speak up against the underhanded and shady way this government runs foreign or domestic issues, you're either unpatriotic or a national security risk. (Your With us or Against us.) If the people of the United States think that new look by any agency in this administration will change the outcome Bush has already arrived at, you don't know the rules of the game. So Lou, it isn’t the U.A.E. that wants to shut you up for keeping this issue alive in the press. Watch your back Lou. P.S. Do you hear clicking when you talk on the phone?? Edward Coombs With regard to the port issue which, I agree was a bad political move by Bush & Co., I hope you have read - or will read - the op ed by Fred Bergsten, an old friend of mine, in today's Washington Post. It is entitled "Avoiding Another Dubai". It is a carefully reasoned presentation that downplays the security factor but emphasizes the political necessity of greater transparency in such procedures. He sees the greatest risk in this imbroglio as discouraging foreign investment in the US, necessary to cover our enormous - and growing - foreign debt. Of course, this can be another argument against Bush policies - tax and budgetary - which have contributed to our growing national debt, much of now held by countries like China. Avoiding Another Dubai (Washington Post) Paul Subject: DON'T change a THING Greetings BuzzFlash. Please don't change a thing. I even cringe at some of your headlines, but these are dark, dangerous, times, the likes of which I DON'T EVER recall in my lifetime or ANY of my lessons on our recent history. The actions, continued abuses and human rights violations as well as the ATROCITIES committed by the CRIMINALS in office are nothing short of BREATHTAKING. I am not a violent person and even MY children get sick of hearing my rants about the Bush Crime Family and all their enablers in office. But TRUTH NEEDS to be told, and YOU, BuzzFlash, do it SO WELL! you are contributing a precious, valuable service to your readers and those of us who feel so alone in our rage and despair. The truth and perspectives you provide are DESPERATELY needed. I am a single unemployed mother up here in a very economically depressed area of the high desert of Southern Cal. STILL searching for work with no reliable transportation at this time. BUT WHEN I DO find work, you can bet I will be sending WHAT I can, WHEN I can. Blessings to you BuzzFlash and BuzzFlash readers in our struggle to take our country and FREEDOMS BACK from these vultures who are BREAKING EVERY LAW on the books and doing it with a smile. Dominie Robinson Subject: No Choice C Your editorial defending BuzzFlash's solid, even at time uncivil, attempts to reverse the recent effects of the Bush restoration of elite empire within our former democracy is very much on target. Much of the polite, intellectual discussion about the progress of history toward a stable 'end' of liberal democracy has recently been disturbed by Francis Fukuyama's own second thoughts of this comforting image. Likewise, Wm F. Buckley, Andrew Bacevich, and other notable conservative and neo-conservative scholars have expressed second thoughts (and even complete denials) of the neocons'' militarist 'democracy projects' in Iraq and elsewhere. It is starting to be understood that much of the noble sounding 'ends' that the neocon projects attempt to use for justification, appear to be in large part lies. Even Fukuyama, who had been a darling of neocon justification of supposedly establishing the sought after "End of History" of 'liberal democracies' is now fully rejecting neocon projects done in his name --- notably the Iraq war. One thing that strikes me is that the optimistic "End of History" logic and justification of helping more nation-states reach the plateau of 'liberal democracy,' ignores the obvious danger (and reality) that some notable nation-states are clearly moving in the other direction, reversing historical progress, and reverting from liberal democracy to empire. Within the US in particular this regression (rather than progression) is a major problem confronting all Americans who believe in and want to live in a liberal democracy. I believe that even Fukuyama himself is beginning to realise that the ebb of history can be both progressive and regressive --- and that this stark realization underlies his change of heart. We certainly can not be complacent or smug in the belief that we live in the highest/last form of political structure, 'liberal democracy' at the end of historical development, when the evidence is so great that our own proud democracy is at deadly risk of even more fully morphing to empire. I believe that over the next brief period of history and US political thought, people will begin to fully realize that Ben Franklin's cautionary tale of "yes, we have republic, now if we can keep it" (from reverting to empire) will become the rallying point of a second American revolution. We can not be lulled into polite acceptance of empire, and polite talk about the "American Empire" --- as this course would be deadly not only for peons in the oil territories of a global American Empire, but also of average citizens within the empire itself. For ultimately, when push comes to shove, empire treats both subjects in their territories and their own domestic subjects with the same brutal contempt and horror. The drive to Empire in the US must be stopped in its tracks and reversed at all costs. BuzzFlash's firm language in confronting fascist, dictatorial empire must be firm, loud, and not necessarily 'nice.' For as Raul Julia said of the entrenched Batista fascist dictatorship of elite in the movie, "Havana" --- "But they will not leave by asking NICELY." Alan MacDonald Subject: The Bush Crime Family Hi folks at BuzzFlash, You know, the UAE is the most degenerate Middle East country in terms of human slavery, prostitution, drugs, money laundering, you name it. It is the Medellin (as in Columbia) Cartel of the Middle East. Maybe this point should be made too. I heard Malloy say on his show last night that the ports deal is a Karl Rove antic.... and well it may be. It sure has us ignoring the investigation into HIM; doesn't it? Some people are feeling burned out by the more than decade long onslaught of hatred and lies flung far and near and down our throats by this Criminal Enterprise. But bad as it feels..... we are at war. We should keep our eye on what they are doing at every level. Especially with the military. You know they use the military as their personal contraband shipping partner.... they always have. Want to break these people? Cancel all your "mainstream" media. Don't support the liars who support Bush. Buzzflash Reader and Supporter Subject: Help Me Get This Point Across Please A quick note. One of the major and shocking revelations that has been sidelined in the ports debate is this: The US government has essentially acknowledged that Al Qaeda poses no threat to the US. Think about it. This is a president that has stated that US citizens should be secretly monitored, and with an expedience that requires bypassing any warrant, to prevent more terrorist attacks. At the same time, we'll hand over our ports (for a price of course) to a country with ties to Islamic fundamentalism and terrorism. How can these two seemingly disparate beliefs be held in the same head? It's easy. Al Qaeda is a political ally (according to Bush) and a major player in the Right wing's politics of fear campaign. He's not a military threat, to be sure, but a political tool. (Not that they are in cahoots, no, but to say al Qaeda has done anything other than benefit Bush would be absurd.) If al Qaeda was a real threat to America (or our economy) Bush would be unable to push for the sale of these ports. They are not, though, and George Bush has unwittingly admitted it, which should, if Americans paid attention, also undermine any support Bush gained when OBL releases a tape. It should also completely undermine the scare mongering card the right loves to play. Please help me do that. A BuzzFlash Reader Subject: The "Jolk's" on Them! “Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall. Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. All the king's horses and all the king's men couldn’t put Humpty together again!” Bush’s approval rating falls to 34%, Karl Rove and all the King’s men are trying to pick up the pieces of the “shells” of the Bush Administration's blunders, but there are too many! This egghead of a leader and his cronies and all the king’s men are fighting fires that are breaking out everywhere. Public awareness is catching up and recognizing false claims when they see and hear evidence to the contrary! The “JOLK'S” on the NeoCons, George, and the Republicans as all their hens are coming home to roost!
Our soldiers’ death toll is just short of 2300 with 16653 maimed. Iraqis are dying in huge numbers every day as Iraq teeters on the brink of civil war giving a lie to the loose lips of Bush, Cheney, and others of control or progress being made. Murtha is right; we need to get out now. The Domestic Spy Issue and Bush’s/Republicans misuse of power won’t go away, and will be one more Achilles Heel in the 2006 and 2008 elections. All indications are the country trusts the Democrats more in running the government though they need to work on their message and need cooperation from the MSM in getting it out, which is a challenge! The accurate recording of votes moves to the first position. We need to keep an eye on today’s meeting of the Senate Judiciary Committee meeting today on the NSA scandal and the results on the Patriot Act. The Bush Administration has been working overtime with favors and pressure on the Congressmen. In the name of the “National Security” that Bush uses as his excuse to gain power, well-grounded fears and the many chinks in the Administration’s arguments about the deal ought to come back on them. The UAE Port debacle shows a huge majority of Americans are against the proposal, and are not fooled by Bush’s attempt to save face by putting pressure on the Dubai Company to ask for a delay! Postponing it for 45 days and hoping for short memories won’t work this time! Torture and Rendition won’t go away, despite the US’s position, as the UN and most of the world disagree with Bush! Ditto on Global Warming! Hillary is right on the money with her quote, "What they're hoping is that all of their missteps, which are now numbering in the hundreds, are going to somehow be overlooked because people, instead of focusing on the '06 election, will jump ahead and think about the next one," said Clinton, D-N.Y. THE “JOLK'S” ON THEM, Humpty Dumpty, George, the NeoCons, and the Republicans with their agenda of blunders are in big trouble! Let's hope all the king’s men and their rhetoric have taken a big fall from the wall, and won’t be able to be put together again in the coming elections! Susan Carr Subject: Letter to George Re U.A.E. Dear Mr. Bush: I'm afraid that with all this controversy about what you think is our anti-Arab bigotry, there's something I may be able to clear up for you. You see, bigotry is disliking a person or group of persons based solely on race, ethnicity, religion, etc. Whereas a lingering animosity toward a given group, members of which have done you grievous harm and have given you reason to believe they would greatly enjoy doing so again, is more along the lines of a healthy survival instinct. This really isn't splitting hairs, sir; we're talking apples and oranges here. Oh, but, hey, we're almost into March, aren't we? It's probably been a while since you finished the B's in the Word-A-Day calendar you got in your stocking. I know how that can be. You can't see this, Mr. War President, but I'm slapping my forehead at my own absent-mindedness. Silly me! Here I am prattling on about the meaning of bigotry, while you, having attacked a country completely innocent of any complicity whatever in 9/11, but whose people had the same skin shade and practiced the same religion as the Arabs who were actually guilty...well, gol, that would make you the expert on the subject, wouldn't it? Yeah. And you know how you've been telling us for...oh, must be going on five years now...that all those nasty guys in the whole Islamic world wanted all of us guys deader than sea scrolls? Well, that's sorta why we don't think it's a real good idea now for you to give some of those guys the keys to our ports. Even though you say that the Emirates folks are really nice now and all, two of the attackers came from there. Well, you have a lot on your mind. Maybe you forgot. Only, well, see, that would mean there's probably a lot more people like those two who lived in the Emirates before they decided they liked us. You know where I'm coming from? I mean, jeez, you would never lie to us, would you? So you understand how all of us feel. Because, of course, you united-not-divided us. Thank you for keeping us safe, Your Unitariness, and if any more of those nasty Islamic guys gives you any guff, you just go smoke the sonuvab***h out! You know, like you did to Mr. bin Laden. Stay well, get a bird flu shot, give my regards to Jesus--and oh, yeah--that dumb friend of Mr. Cheney's who put his head in the wrong place. Ellie Remore Subject: Reply To Orlando, Fla I can appreciate the writer's concern that too many people 'rant' on the blogs and do nothing else. However, I am sure others, as well as I, HAVE written--constantly--to our representatives, as well as those from out-of-state, AND our senators, as well as those from out-of-state, to no avail, (not to mention LTTE). All we get are 'form' responses...if any at all. It seems as though, if one does refuse to 'go along to get along' we are ignored - at least, or brushed off...totally. If anyone has any truly unique ideas, I will be glad to hear of them. A BuzzFlash Reader Subject: Soldiers Caught Between 2 Sides Today's LA Times frontpage headline, beneath which is the subtitle, "Americans in Iraq walk a fine line as they try to keep the peace amid sectarian strife." Sounds like they're firewalkers, doesn't it? Involuntary firewalkers at that, with some of our best and brightest in Iraq actually convinced that they're on a do-good and worthy mission there, when in fact, as every BuzzFlash Reader knows, the Iraq war's about power and greed, period, end of plot! The freedom and democracy ploy is to encourage enlistment and to soften-up the folks back home for that dreaded moment when a uniformed military officer knocks on one's front door to deliver the biggest shocker of them all, which is the "We regret to inform you that your loved one was killed in the line of duty" message. Hey, LA Times, when are you going to tell it the way it is? True, this won't get you off the hook for your role in bringing on the Iraq war but, perhaps, it'll allow you space for plea-bargaining when your officers appear before the International Court of Criminal Justice for having aided and abetted the powers that be - in mass-murder and other crimes against humanity. When's that gonna happen? As soon as we the people change the world, that's when, and it's beginning already right here on BuzzFlash A BuzzFlash Reader Subject: Portgate Neil Bush has received substantial funding for his IGNITE program and company from UAE. Bush SR. has received over $1 mil for his Bush Library Foundation at Texas A&M Univ. Carlyle Group heavily invested in by UAE which of course Sr. headed once and family closely involved for years along with James Baker, etc. A BuzzFlash Reader Subject: Bin Laden Helped Me, Bush Says. "What does it mean? Is it going to help? Is it going to hurt?" Bush told Sammon of the bin Laden tapes...I thought it was going to help," Bush said. "I thought it would help remind people that if bin Laden doesn't want Bush to be the president, something must be right with Bush." These remarks quoted in Bill Sammon's "Strategery" are simply more proof (as if any more is needed) that George W. is a numbskull. If Osama helped him to win, it was because that was precisely what he intended. Bin Laden and his ilk have few if any better allies than the likes of Bush and Cheney. If Bin Laden REALLY didn't want Bush to win, all he'd have had to do was simply to imply the contrary. The last thing Bin Laden wants is an intelligent adversary. A BuzzFlash Reader Subject: Bush and Fear Mongering Bush has played the Arabs are Arabs and fear-mongering card so much it's now back-firing on him evidenced by the Dubai port deal. Lawton Watson Subject: A Small Step for Man Finally I’m doing something! After feeling totally powerless during the past 5 years of bush and his new Nazi wing of the Republican Party, I’ve finally gotten a chance to make a difference. Oh I joined every liberal online group this past 5 years, signed petitions, emailed my congress people, wrote letters, made phone calls only to see every effort made thwarted by those Nazi bastards. Then after the fiasco of John, the skull and cross bones Trojan Horse, Kerry’s presidential sell out I pretty much gave up. But then an opportunity just fell into my path and I jumped on it. The Nielsen TV Rating System asked me to be a participant. I represent 23,000 people in my area, a highly RED REPUBLICAN small town in Texas area. The first thing I did after they installed their equipment was to block the FOX news channel; I used to watch Fox News periodically just to see what lies and propaganda they were spewing. Anyway it’s a very small victory but at least I finally feel like I’m accomplishing something! It’s going to hit them where it will hurt them the most, in their wallets! I can’t sign my name and city like I usually do when I write the Mailbag for obvious reasons; this post will have to be from an anonymous BuzzFlash reader. lol. A BuzzFlash Reader Hi, I'm chiming in a little after the fact - I've been out sick and not at the computer. I just read your editorial and signed up for your BuzzFlash alerts. I'm a bit suspicious. All of a sudden, large groups of people are canceling their alerts because you are too shrill? Isn't that a bit odd at this time and place? Now, when the Bush administration is practically peaking in its atrocities (yeah, I know, there's still 3 more years), I would think people would be angrier, not offended by shrillness. I also have noticed in the past few months or so, there has been an unusual amount of criticism in the Mailbag - not that people aren't allowed to criticize, but it seems to be much more frequent - and much of the time, they are complaining about the exact same thing (headlines, shrillness, etc.) Are these people really progressives? Sounds like republican talking points to me. But maybe I'm just too cynical. (What do I mean, maybe?!?!) As someone else stated in the Mailbag, your site has really not changed so why all the ultra-sensitivity to anger just when things look like they can't get any worse? I think you're being attacked a little. Take it as a compliment. I believe anger is a great motivator, and it is also healthy. I mean it's healthy when there's reason to be angry - and lord knows there is. People are right when they say many probably do too much reading and not enough action. But your job is to inform. Our job is to be pro-active. Also, someone suggested that maybe once in a while you can "show us the better world." We already know what a better world looks like. We've lived in one. We're trying to get it back. In a way you do show us a better world when you feature people like Cindy Sheehan, Maureen Farrell, all the whistle-blowers and courageous people that are trying to fight the powers that be, and the hundreds of other bright spots that are out there. I find them very uplifting. So in other words, stay as shrill as you are. I believe in shrillness (which is why the NY Times will never print my letters!). So take the shrillness up a notch if you want. Barbara in NYC Subject: Lou Dobbs Deserves the Wings of Justice Award Hi BuzzFlash Readers, Just in case you've been missing it, Lou Dobbs is being threatened by Dubai Ports. From The February 27 Transcript: QUOTE from DOBBS:
Unquote!! And if Lou's show "Suddenly Gets Canceled," you can all look back to this letter and "Know Why." Think Matthews or FAUX is going to have to worry about such a threat? Don't make me laugh! You Show Them Lou!! I nominate you for the WINGS of JUSTICE AWARD!! Tom Wieliczka Subject: Stay the Way You Are! I forgot to add this to my mailbag post, but the powerful ideas BUZZFLASH and all who post on the Mailbag, communicate, should not be tempered down! With the Bush regime in charge our nation is on a dangerous course. They heartily deserve harsh criticism Continue unflinchingly in what you do best. Love your headlines! Susan Carr Subject: No special counsel I tell you, Dubya will have to commit sodomy with someone, other than Laura, because that is the only thing they impeach for these days. There won't be a problem getting him to lie about it because he lies about everything. Speak up or they assume you agree!!! ABB Karen Webb Subject: Tone! I hear that you've been getting grief because of your tone, and I'd just like to say, I love your tone and to please continue with it just like it is. For people that don't like your tone, they can go elsewhere like to Fox News. I don't like their tone, so I don't listen to them. Please keep doing what you are doing and saying what you are saying. It needs to be said and needs to be done. These guys in Washington are taking away the America that we knew and when they are gone, it will be nice to have been able to say, well I told you so. And so much of my "told you so" I get from you. Keep up the good work and keep your Tone. It is the truth, and if the truth can't be told, then we really are in trouble. A BuzzFlash Reader Subject: I know why bin Ladin would want to help Bush Bush always, without fail, does exactly what bin Ladin wants him to do. Speak up or they assume you agree!!! ABB Karen Webb, Subject: Love and Money I love the BuzzFlash site AND I put a check in the mail yesterday. Thanks, Anne Furman Subject: To Shrill ... or Not I hope we are all done discussing how shrill the Buzz should be. If you don't like this site, find one you do like or start your own. This one has been working really well for lots of us for a long time. There is real work to be done. Let's get on with it. Pam Clifford Subject: War of the Roses Hey Buzz, Think about it….By the end of GW’s tenure on the throne of the United States of America, we will have experienced 20 years of two-family rule. Time to ditch the War of the Roses scenario, Lancasters v. Yorks…Bushes v. Clintons…Shrubs v. Apple Blossoms (state flower of Arkansas). Hillary Clinton is not the heir apparent in the Democratic party’s struggle to regain the throne. Let’s face it, since GW snuck that throne into the White House via his “unitary executive” powers we’re not going to be able to change anything until the next election. If the Democratic party is the only opposition party, then they have to be strengthened and must adopt a viable “war plan” to remove the throne from the White House and re-instate a transparent democracy. (Yeah, right, still tied to “Corporate World Inc., but it’s a start) The Democrats are going to have to steal some strategy from the Republicans' playbook. The Republicans had little georgie inked in right from the start, their primaries were a farce. The Democrats are going to have to do some backroom huddling, decide on a candidate soon and back he or she to the hilt. They can’t commit political suicide having potential candidates nice-guy themselves to death in the primaries. Why not Barbara Boxer? From where I sit she’s remained steadfast and represents a clear alternative to the neo-cons. Whoever they pick, they better check the bones in the closet, because we know Rove will have some dirty dossiers on any potential candidate. The Democrats have to be ready for a fight, so it’s time to get the lightweights off the team. Tom Coombs |
