You can write to Mailbag at http://www.buzzflash.com/contact/mail.html. Guidelines for submissions are at BuzzFlash FAQ #18. Subject: DOJ Investigation Reuters carried this item today:
One question of the DOJ, please: Is your investigation of this "leak" to take place before or after your investigation into the legality of the establishment of such a clandestine operation, and the determination of just how much legal damage as been caused both at home and abroad, by our "war-time president" in just another of his abortive tactics of the war on terrorism? Inquiring minds want to know! Bill Sybert Subject: More Deception??? SHIFTING ATTENTION FROM BLAME….AGAIN! Not so long ago, when Dan Rather tried to bring the truth out about Bush's military service, the Bush/Rovian Political Machine and the media SHIFTED the BLAME to the story that was "unverified"! Bush has broken the law, so now the Bush-controlled Justice Department shifts gears to find out who leaked the NSA spy story, in an attempt to divert attention away from George W. Bush's BREAKING THE LAW spying on Americans! Davesdad Subject: The Justice Department in Collusion with the White House Hey Gang! Long time, no post. I read this headline with absolute and utter disbelief. Inquiry into leak of NSA spying program launched (CNN) The Justice Department, instead of investigating whether the Chimp in Charge broke Constitutional law and is attempting to put himself above the law, is going to investigate the NY Times instead? Anyone with half a brain knows that, with probable cause, the government is allowed - by law - to listen in on phone conversations (as long as you've got a warrant any of you Renutlicans out there reading this) and in the case of emergencies, you've got 72 to get a warrant or you've broken the law. What part of this do Renutlicans, Enablers, Messengers Boys, and the Whipe House not get? YOU'VE BROKEN THE LAW, NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES AND IN HOW MANY WAYS YOU TRY TO DISSIMINATE, SPIN, OR JUSTIFY IT. I've had enough. This latest development is bovine scatology, and anyone with clear, patriotic vision can see it. If Democrats don't start a full-court press, complete with a media barrage, to throroughly educate the American people as to what is happening, how it occurred in our past, and what it can lead to ... then I'll have to find ways to do it myself. J. Peurala Subject: Republicans Charge President Warner Abused Power (satire) President Warner abused powers Republicans in Congress charge December 29, 2009 The admission that President Mark Warner used executive orders to bypass the Federal Court set up to determine if U.S citizens could be spied upon has brought charges from House Minority Leader Dennis Hastert and Senate Minority Leader Bill Frist that he has abused his powers. They called for immediate investigations to be held with the possibility of bringing articles of impeachment if the allegations prove true. President Warner revealed during a FOX News interview Tuesday that since he took office in January of 2008 that he had asked the National Security Administration on numerous occasions to intercept cellular phone calls, hard wired phone calls and internet transactions from gun shows to determine if felons and or potential terrorists were purchasing automatic weapons without background checks. "This is outrageous!" said an NRA spokesperson. "To think that in this country a President could do such nefarious law-breaking against law-abiding citizens is completely wrong. I hope the Congress and Judiciary will quickly bring this President back into line with the rule of law." It was also learned in the same FOX news interview that President Warner, on the advice of Attorney General, Hillary Clinton, had also used NSA intercepts to keep tabs on members of Operation Rescue to learn of any plans to violently attack Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers. "We cannot, as a God-fearing nation tolerate such illegal activities," said Operation Rescue spokesperson Terri Adams. "For one man to decide to spy on anyone is not the way this nation is supposed to handle its affairs." Television Evangelist Pat Robertson and Moral Majority founder Jerry Falwell also condemned the administration's actions saying in a joint statement released this morning: "There has to be a separation of Church and State. For this administration to focus on the actions of a recognized religious institution such as Operation Rescue and to use covert surveillance to, in effect, limit their actions or to hinder their free religious expression is in direct violation of the Bill of Rights. We ask the American Civil Liberties Union to look into this matter immediately." President Warner justified his actions by saying, "Since 2001 when former President Bush began issuing executive orders without use of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) Court against American citizens, this has been a possibility. The Republican-led Congress did not investigate nor even ask the President to desist. He did not do so until charged with articles of impeachment brought by the House Judiciary Committee under John Conyers' leadership following the 2006 elections. His (President Bush's) and Vice President Cheney's resignations and the impeachment of Attorney General Gonzales, while appropriate, focused on the manipulation of intelligence and lying to Congress prior to the run-up to the Iraq war, the use of torture, and the war profiteering by the Carlyle Group and Halliburton, both of which had ties to the Bush and Cheney Administration. The resignation and impeachment did not answer the question if such action bypassing FISA could be taken against enemies, foreign and domestic, since there were just too many other issues the Judiciary Committee addressed and since the resignations came before the proceedings were completed. Gonzales' impeachment focused on the torture question. While I have used FISA many times, there were other incidents where we had to move quickly when learning of ‘flea market' gun shows and hastily called anti-abortion rallies. Sometimes we forgot to go to FISA within the 72-hour time frame. I just ask the American people to trust me to look after their best interests." Polls show that Warner's popularity has plummeted from 71% to 55% following the disclosure. He is still reaping the benefits of withdrawing all troops from Iraq immediately after his inauguration and brokering the peacekeeping plan that involves troops from all of the European and Middle Eastern nations, with standing armies now overseeing the peaceful beginnings of democracy in Iraq. White House spokesperson Tim Johnson said the President would have no further comment on the situation and will be spending the weekend at Camp David with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. Kenneth G. Leischner Subject: What About Feingold? Why do so many members of the Liberal Press and Blogs, not Buzz of course, weep and wail that there are no Democrats willing to stand up and assume a leadership position? What does Russ Feingold have to do, swim naked in the reflecting pool between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial to get their attention? Or have they listened to the Republicans saying that the Democrats have no ideas and no leadership for so long that they believe it? Russ Feingold has been standing out there alone since he was the only Senator to vote against the Patriot Act the first time it came up for a vote. If that doesn't show leadership and courage, then what does it take? Instead of branding everyone with the same Republican Branding Iron, how about reporting something what is really happening? How about less concern about Hillary's attempts to "moderate" her position and more about those who are in the same position they have always taken, what their conscience dictates? Feingold can be infuriating. The nomination of John Roberts comes to mind. I had nothing against Roberts except his arrogant refusal to answer questions at his hearings. When Feingold voted for him, I went ballistic. Love it or hate it, this is what you get with Russ Feingold. He does what he thinks is right. No polls, no finger waving in the air. You might not always agree with him, but you should damn well respect him. Marjorie L. Swanson Subject: Re The Pall of "Normalcy" Has Once Again Fallen Over the Radical, Rogue Regime -- A BuzzFlash News Analysis In today's BuzzFlash Headlines I found the following paragraph,
... this in turn popped an idea in my head. The perverse activities of the administration have become so commonplace the Democratic leadership seems to hesitate to chose which felonious insult to attack and how much energy capital to expend. Hence the outrage is lukewarm and is hardly sustained until the next occurrence. Also it is hardly a secret that should a newsy be so bold as to ‘tell-it-like-it-is,' then he/she would expect to take lumps not in their tea, but on their noggin. How this can be with our self-proclaimed, intrepid, "sincere, honest, trustworthy, fact-finding" newscasters is self evident, and only the least aware would question. I propose that those who "push-back" with appropriate rage be noted and honored for their intrepidness, forthrightness and chutzpah. A Dynamic Heatmap, (as in NASDAQ-100 Dynamic Heatmap) would record the latest and strongest Democratic fighters. Their missiles could be rated, recorded and published. This list, of the top twenty in each field (politicians, news media, columnists, web sites, grass rooters) should be published weekly. There are thousands of opinions offered daily, and it is important that those opinions that would most likely further our cause be allowed to filter to the top. Good opinions or solutions must be read by all that are interested and pushed along until our leaders can act upon them. In this time the public as well as our legislators are inundated with sea of opinions to the extent that this information overload drowns out the opinions of value. Why seek more opinions when daily they are cast upon a garbage heap of obscurity? Good opinions are a resource that needs be organized, cataloged and the best acted upon. Now we are nothing more than a squawking gaggle of geese whose output needs to be organized in a form that is useful. On a scale of one to twenty, I would rank BuzzFlash a 20 (the highest) for aggressiveness, content and timeliness. Jim Hightower is a winner, too. Now who else? Imagine getting a list of the highest ranking submissions for the week even a slow reader, like me, would be able to digest the most important ones. Hey, maybe even a few will get read by our elected representatives. Evan Cundiff Subject: 2005: The Year Of ...? Dear BuzzFlash; I was watching one of those year-in-review shows on the boob tube and got to thinking: How will the year 2005 be seen? I thought it might be seen as the "Year of the Euphemism," which I immediately changed to the "Year of Lies." Then I wondered if those words really conveyed all the problems the GOP has created for future generations and worked on a few more. 2005: The Year of Deception. 2005: The Year of Incompetence. 2005: The Beginning of the End. Any other suggestions? A BuzzFlash Reader Subject: Does BuzzFlash Believe in God? Who cares if you believe in god? This is a SECULAR nation. I wouldn't think any less of you if you believe in jesus, buddha, bugs bunny, or nothing at all. Bill Mac Bean Subject: Over the People; Not "for" the People! The great Thomas Paine once declared that, "Governments arise out of the people or OVER THE PEOPLE!" From the Bush Administration's abuse of power, to the way they used a "fixed policy" to lead us into a war without justification; George W. Bush has been doing it "HIS WAY!" From Bush's elections determined by the Supreme Court and rigged Diebold machines, to the abuse and misuse of power of by the Administration and the obsessive one-party control of the Republicans, we have been ruled by a "would be dictator" and his "CORRUPT" court who govern "OVER THE PEOPLE, NOT FOR THE PEOPLE! From the beginning of the Bush Administration, we have seen and tolerated hidden agendas, lies, one scandal after another, secrecy, excuses for failure, misrepresentation of facts, and little oversight of this Bush government that has proved itself the most "CORRUPT" in our history. We have also witnessed refusal to give relevant documentation in investigations, and letters from Congress and United States citizens ignored.
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist and his gang threatened the use of "the nuclear option" to end filibusters on judicial nominees and still holds that threat over the heads of the Senate. We throw dollars {$6 billion per month} at Iraq but failed to respond to the needs of the Katrina victims properly. The Bush Administration did not have enough "spin doctors" or excuses to justify that failing to the American people. Bush overreached a President's power by breaking the law in covert domestic surveillance by the Pentagon, the FBI and the National Security Agency. He also lied once again about how broad his intimidation went. His excuses for warrantless spying and need for speed is lame and inaccurate! We can't deny that our deficits are the highest in history. The Senate didn't help "average joe" as they approved the bankruptcy bill, or seniors and students, as they passed cuts in Medicaid and student loans. Are they saving money to pay for tax cuts for the rich? They also were responsible for an energy bill that gives subsidies to the oil companies but doesn't help conservation. American families bear the brunt of high costs to heat their homes, fill their tanks, and health insurance for millions is a dream. The average working family income is down and it's harder for everyone to make ends meet. At the same time studies show that Americans' debt ratio is higher! The Bush Administration feels it has the imperative to do whatever they want to do without suffering the consequences for their actions. They seem to think they can pay journalists and P.R. firms to publicize their one-sided viewpoint. They have been caught red-handed {global warming, EPA} altering or changing government agencies' data at will. They brook no opposition without resorting to character assassinations. They deny knowledge of an outing of a CIA agent, which they all knew from the beginning, and despite phony promises of accountability, refuse to fire Administration higher-ups involved up to their necks in corruption and scandal. THE BUSH GOVERNMENT IS NOT "FOR THE PEOPLE"; IT IS "OVER THE PEOPLE"! With George W. Bush and Dick Cheney at the helm, we have seen our Democracy deteriorate, and a disorderly, inept, and tyrannical rule put in its place. Without enough oversight, with little checks and balances and too much secrecy, with an abuse of power, it has become a government that is too strong for the liberties of its people to survive! Censure, Impeachment and a complete change in Congress is our only chance to restore our nation's respectability! Susan Carr Subject: Voting records/Mailbag suggestion Hi, BuzzFlash, In the December 23 Mailbag, a BuzzFlash reader suggested that it would be helpful if there was a web site that had paragraph summaries of the voting records of members of Congress. You asked, as an editorial note, if the reader could start the page and that you might link it for contested races. I've put together a page that is in keeping with the reader's suggestion. To actually create paragraph summaries would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, so I created a page that helps visitors find information with respect to legislation that is important to them. The main page has bill numbers, short titles and, if the bill was enacted into law, the public law number, for major legislation since Bush took office. The site also includes an instructional page on Thomas so that people who aren't familiar with that site can figure out what to do with it and how to find the information that they want. Here's the link: http://home.earthlink.net/~congressvotes/. I truly hope you'll share this with your readers. I'd also very much appreciate any comments you or your readers might have. This is a work in progress in every sense. I plan to add more bills to the main page and, if I can find them, I'd like to have links to report cards maintained by various interest groups. A page on committee hearings would be good, I think, but I haven't figured out how to do that one yet. I'm also going to try to figure out how to run a search on all the bills introduced by a particular member, if it can be done. Rest assured that there's no self promotion or requests for money going on here. I just thought that the reader had a good idea and I wanted to help by putting together something that is useful, all with an eye toward the 2006 elections and the collective desire in the BuzzFlash community to get those hijackers of freedom out of office! Please let me know what you think. Sincerely, Cathy Vance Subject: Pledge for Peace There is a new website, www.NotOneMore.US, which asks both politicians and the peace community to Pledge for Peace. This means candidates publicly stating that this war was a mistake, and the peace community committing to only voting for a candidate that has stated this war is wrong. Until we start voting for what we want, we will continue getting what they give us. From the website ...
peace thank you A. Gyenis Subject: The Pall of Normalcy That's just the media doing its thing, which is to embellish and glorify the powers that be, particularly our president, His Majesty, His Excellency and our very own Royal Highness, King George Number Two; and by whatever means are necessary - Fraudulent elections, not important; lying about weapons of mass destruction, bad intelligence; spying on Americans, so what! And mainstream media's not going to reform itself either, which means that we ourselves will have to change the world without/despite them. Should be no problem for us, though, what with the Internet. Isn't it already time, then, that we put out images of what it will be like when human need, instead of greed, is what makes the world go round and round? For a starter, how's about dividing the earth's GDP of umpty-ump trillion dollars by its six point three billion human inhabitants for a rough average annual income per each of us? OK, so maybe it'll take a few generations before we're egalitarian (or perhaps we'll never quite make it there), but certainly war can be eliminated and STAT; same for poverty, sexism, racism, homelessness, unemployment, lack of health care and the rest of the biggies. And we'll be able to make sure, by doing something about global warming, that the earth will still be inhabitable when our children and grandchildren come of age. So it doesn't matter, this snow-job about our commander-in-chief's latest so-called rebirth that the MSM is trying to put over on us, so long as we the people continue to call it the way it is while, at the same time, contrasting this reality with glimpses of the peace on earth and goodwill to all living beings that we've all been waiting for; when suddenly there's this "Why of course, but I never thought it was possible until now." A BuzzFlash Reader Subject: Documentary on Venezuela How can I get a copy of "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised"? It's a documentary on Chavez' Venezuela. Thanks, A BuzzFlash Reader [BuzzFlash Note: Background on the film is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...; the DVD can be ordered from http://venezuelasolidarity.org.uk/ven/web/dvd/dvd.html.] Subject: Re: Bush Delivers Iraq on a Silver Platter Into the Epicenter of the Axis of Evil -- A BuzzFlash News Analysis - from the horse's mouth Hi. Herewith, the Coalition site, with a statement on federalism by L. Paul Bremer:
Most of the links to this stuff in a simple Google search on Bremer and federalism seem to be unaccountably dead, but this is the history I remember. I hope this provides some assurance I'm dealing with fact, rather than belief. My interpretations for the reasons Bush et al. pushed federalism are necessarily conjectural, but the fact of it is clear. Regards, John F. Williford Subject: George W.'s warrantless eavesdropping adventures Dear Editors, At this point President George W. Bush, in claiming that he has the authority to do what he's been doing with the National Security Agency, and various telecommunications companies, conducting vast warrantless telephone and computer mining expeditions in the name of national security, and in asserting flatly that he will continue doing it, he reminds me of the title character in "The Grand Inquisitor," who, at the end of the piece, when confronted by the Almighty, referred to throughout as "The Chief," begins to assert repeatedly, "I am The Chief," like a broken windup toy, with a broken wing and a twisted leg, that can no longer get off the ground, even for a second, but just keeps waving its one good arm, and kicking with its one good leg, which send it in awkward crippled circles, like a swatted fly that wasn't quite squashed flat and isn't quite dead. He's not just a lame duck; he's a dead duck. Or, to put it another way, if we can't finish him off now, and this is permitted to continue, all of us are finished, and so is the Republic itself, not just its reputation. And, please be advised, anybody who's heard of Sigmund Rosenblum would feel constrained to assume that at least some of these people that the White House has been bugging by moonlight requisition, who are, or have at least been labeled, "known members of Al-Qaeda," and of "affiliated organizations," by President Bush and his Cabinet, are very wealthy and powerful men, like Osama bin Laden, more ruthless than lawyers, and more devious than journalists, people at least as slick as Achmed Chalabi, who are perfectly capable of wearing more than one hat. And, he would have to assume, furthermore, that some of them have more than one name, like Sydney Reilly, and have probably been carrying on conversations with various Congressmen (some of whom can't perform simple divisions of three digit numbers without a calculator), and with some captains of industry, on a more or less regular basis, about everything from Iran's nuclear intentions to the price of wheat. If I was Sen. Arlen Specter, all of this would really make me nervous. It might be hard for him to tell who owns him now, and which of his honorable colleagues, and which of his closest friends, may have been compromised. No wonder Bruce Fein's having fits, and comparing George Bush to King George. If I had a nickel, that's where I'd be looking now. Respectfully, Herbert M. Gillett Subject: Clinton Speech Hi Buzz ... I heard President Bill Clinton speak on C Span a day or so ago ... What a pleasant experience that was ... Just to listen to a man that didn't smirk and repeat same o same o ... He told of all of his years of presidency ... ADMITTED what were his mistakes ... and what things he was sorry he failed to accomplish ... but ... when you heard of all he did accomplish in that time ... you immediately felt proud and at the same time so sorry for all that this administration has destroyed. He even touched a little on why he was impeached and gave you the choice of thinking about it in comparison with all of the republicans of today and their faux pas. I wonder if your readers got to see it, and, if not, maybe you could dig up a transcript of it ... It would bring some sense of what we had, and what all we have lost since. Genie Subject: Incompetence Trumps Evil One of the saddest things about the Bush administration is that no matter what wicked plan they have, they aren't very good at implementing it. Incompetence seems to trump evil every time. We learn more every day about how this administration and its Troop of Happy Little Trolls try to gain more power for themselves. That is not at all unusual in any group that believes in totalitarianism. What is unusual is that they are so very bad at it. They should be very glad that their base is so stupid or they would be in real trouble. They may have convinced some of the people some of the time but they managed to convince all of their base all of the time. Except for the Harriet Miers fiasco, but then, even a moron wasn't about to swallow that one. Then the most secretive administration in memory wants to spy on everyone else and leave us with no secrets at all. This of course is to protect us. They were after the bad guys talking to bad guys. According to Bush's spokesman they weren't trying to eavesdrop on Aunt Edna and her secret recipe for Apple Pie. Considering their degree of competence you can easily picture some poor "Detainee" somewhere being grilled about how much cinnamon Aunt Edna uses. After being "water boarded" the "detainee" then confesses that she used a tablespoon of cinnamon and we will all be sentenced to having apple pie heavy on the cinnamon and light on the nutmeg for all eternity. Meanwhile some FBI analyst somewhere is still trying to figure out the secret "Apple Pie" code. After all, Aunt Edna is a member of a radical Quaker Sect known as pacifists. Considering the damage that has been done to our country and other parts of the world where we have inflicted our unwanted and illegal presence I suppose we should be glad that Bush & Company are such incompetent twits. Glad except for the dead, the maimed, those who have lost loved ones and family and who will never again be completely whole. Maybe having a "C" student as president isn't a good idea. Maybe competence is more important than P.R. after all. Marjorie L. Swanson Subject: Who Is WaPo Kidding, and Why? About half way through the Steep Rise and Fall of Jack Abramoff article in the Washington Post is this gem:
Maybe the authors should have checked their own morgue for:
Or they could Google "Abramoff DeLay." DeLay called Abramoff one of his closest and dearest friends during a toast he was making at a banquet held in Saipan. Saipan is the place where Chinese sweatshop workers spend 14-hour days making clothes that can be legally labeled "Made in the USA" because it is a US protectorate. If they get pregnant, they are forced to have abortions. Most of these conditions exist because of DeLay's actions on Capitol Hill. Look for a new PR spin that distances DeLay and Abramoff. You will know where it began. I bet you in a year you will hear that DeLay and Abramoff wouldn't recognize each other in a line-up. (Though that's where we'd like to see both of them--in a line-up) Kristi Warriner Subject: What The Media Is Ignoring! The media applauded George W. Bush's benchmark of a successful election, BUT they have downplayed the daily demonstrations against election results. The Kurds play ball for the time being because of oil revenues, but their future action will most definitely be for an independent state, inflaming Turkey, and bringing less stability to an already unstable area! Kurds voted Kurdish, Shia voted for control by religious factions, and Sunnis got screwed, no one voted for a unified Iraq! Sunni families have been murdered by the dozens!
In the election, the Shia slate with ties to Iran holds the power; U.S.-backed Allawi came in a very poor 3rd, some say 4th! We reached the 2000 soldiers' deaths mark just a little while ago, BUT as of this morning 2178 soldiers have died, and we are almost at the 2200 mark with 16000 soldiers injured, but you'll never HEAR these totals on the news! We were deceived by Bush's "fixed Policy" to go to war, along with the CIA outing, the spying on Americans, the Abramoff scandal implicating mostly Republicans, the DeLay and Frist debacles, we presume we have heard the WORST of it! With that assumption, WE WOULD BE WRONG! It hasn't been reported by our newspapers or networks, BUT the deception goes on! Bush's nation-building and bid for a legacy continues, maybe with Israel being complicit in "New Plans." The Bush Administrations PRIMES THE PUMP, will Israel strike Iran and then bring the U.S. into the war? Is this another "fixed" covert policy???
Apparently, the Mainstream Media's job to inform us with the truth is still compromised, and the Bush Administration's corrupt ways have never ended! Susan Carr Subect: A One Party Country Needs a Real Opposition Party Hi BuzzFlash, Have you, or another website, ever thought of forming A REAL OPPOSITION PARTY TO THE REPUBLICANS? Ralph Nadar need not apply. Today's Democrats and Republicans give me double vision because they both seem to look, act and vote as a Single Party comprising TWO Parties. Whenever a serious third party comes into the picture, I would look at the stance of the party and join if they were a true opposition party. We also need to give the Major So-Called "NEWS" Network the "Run/Scare of Their Lives" as a new News Corportation gets created that gives more than just the "Republican Version" of the news. Tom Wieliczka Subject: Justice Dept. to probe leak of spy program (NBC/MSNBC) Instead of investigating President Bush for breaking the law by illegally spying without the required warrant from the court, the justice department has opened an investigation into who is leaking that Bush was breaking the law to the press. "We are opening an investigation into the unauthorized disclosure of classified materials related to the NSA," an official said on condition of anonymity. So the Bush Justice Department is leaking to the press that they are opening an investigation into leaking to the press. Bush logic never ceases to amaze me. Justice Dept. to probe leak of spy program (NBC/MSNBC) I'm Marc Perkel - And I approved this message! Marc Perkel Subject: I Had A Dream ... That the past five years were a "vast left-wing conspiracy" to set up Bush and the neocons for their own self-destruction. Then I realized it may be part of a grander scheme. Sometimes you have to lance a boil to get rid of it. What we have seen erupt from this festering evil has been horrible and hideously painful to the planet and to the human heart. But it is now exposed for all to see. The choices are now clear and we cannot turn away claiming ignorance. So let's use the pain and rage we have suffered to fuel our determination to heal - ourselves, our country, and our planet. God bless the world. A BuzzFlash Reader Subject: Pillow talk: Macking Bono Connie Mack, 38, divorced his wife Ann in August. Mary Bono, 43, has filed for divorce but it is not yet finalized. Mack has two very small children. Since Republicans profess to honor family values, doesn't the behavior of these two identify them as prime hypocrites?
Inez Cardozo-Freeman Subject: "See How They Run," the DVD Dear Buzz - From living around the corner from Willie Brown on Nob Hill in San Francisco, and working for Tom Ammiano's side in the election featured on this DVD ... I can vouch that you can't beat SF politics. Loads of money, personality, issues, and plenty of style. Even someone like me who isn't a fan of Willie Brown can applaud the guy's brains and verbal acuity ... I remember Herb Caen's funeral at Grace Cathedral and Willie Brown's really magnificent eulogy ... along with Robin WIlliams' hilarious one ... and Strange de Jim's ... well ... interesting commentary. It's one hell of a town. I'm sure Bush Inc is hoping to smother it, too, as they move to break-up the 9th Federal District which has stood for a lot of our rights. Hope you sell a ton of the DVDs from America's greatest small-big town. Proud to be from a city where you can love and respect the mayor. Mayor Newsom is the best ... and yes ... he's that charming and handsome in person, too ... and he says what the thinks, even if it isn't popular. Viva SF! SuzanneSubject: Word of the Day Our local newspaper, The Herald Times in Bloomington, Indiana runs a PSA ad from the Newspaper in Education (NIE) people on the "word for today." Today (12/30), the word was "Credulity," and the example is from the December 25, 2005 edition of the HT: "Iraq War testing limits of credulity, Constitution" Underneath, the commentary reads, "It is clear we will need to practice hard on our credulity in the future just to get a grasp on how dumbfounding the entire Iraq War is." http://www.heraldtimesonline.com/ropads/?task=oneadkey&n=42661 I tried to get this to copy from the site but I couldn't, but it's pretty hilarious. The Herald Times is a subscription website so I don't know if the link would work for you. I found it online by searching for credulity in the Ads category. Hope you can use it as an example of resistance found in unexpected places. Laura |
