The BuzzFlash Mailbag The opinions expressed in the Mailbag are not necessarily those of BuzzFlash. Read the BuzzFlash FAQ for info on submitting to the Mailbag. THIS IS PART 2 OF THE DECEMBER 2, 2005 BUZZFLASH MAILBAG. CLICK HERE FOR PART 1 Subject: Bush "Finally Has a Plan" Hi BuzzFlash, So Bush "Finally Has a Plan" that is ONLY "Two Plus Years Too Late! Excuse me "W", but aren't you suppose to have "A PLAN" Before you Start A War? Guess Rummy hasn't seen his picture of him shaking hands with Saddam. Did Ike go to Normandy on D-Day without thinking through a detailed plan, or did he send a "few thousand troops" to Normandy, Declare Victory on a Carrier in the region and FINALLY come up with a plan for the Invasion on the spur of the moment, after the invasion started? I remember that Bush Stunt when he said "Major Combat Operations In Iraq Have Ended". Or have people and the media corpSE forgotten Bush's STUNT Carrier Landing and SPEECH on The USS Abraham Lincoln? So let's see: We invaded Iraq instead of going after a SOB named Osama bin Laden, Bush makes his "Major Combat Operations Have Ended" stunt speech on The USS Abraham Lincoln and finally, AWOL-Bush and Direction-Less Rumsfeld are Just Coming Up With A WAR PLAN - NOW! Way to go "W"! What a 'backass way' to run a war with not one of your large family's lives on the front line! And now we learn the truth that The Bush Propaganda Machine is teaching the people in Iraq that "Freedom of The Press" is done by using Propaganda. I wonder if Judith Miller and Scooter Libby are their Teachers, since they are out of their old jobs? They must have written that "Freedom Is On The March" Propaganda that we kept hearing in every Bush Speech! It's high time that every Website, Newspaper, Magazine, Radio DJ and News Broadcast have a special section devoted just for all The Bush Administration PROPAGANDA, that they 'puke-up' to everyone, day after day. It seems to be growing by leaps and bounds lately and if the media corpSE (dead from the neck up) had only done their jobs before the war, it would have been detected - way back then!! Just Think Back. Remember all those "Yeah-Rah-Rah" comments from every reporter? Remember all the "fancy images" of different weapons at the beginning of the war on "TV News"? Remember all that "War Monger Music" on every network, that alerted you that "news" on The Iraq War was about to be told? Remember all those "promises" of Iraq Oil paying for the war, Rose Petals getting thrown at our Soldiers and how they would be greeted as Liberators, that we were told before the war? Hey Bush, Cheney, Rummy, Rice and Wolfowitz; did you (Insert Cheney Senate Word Here)-up or what? US Soldiers are still getting killed in Iraq! Where is the "Yeah-Rah-Rah Attitude" and "War Music" on FAUX, CNN, MSNBC, CBS, NBC and ABC - today? Do you remember those words in "The Downing Street Memo" that said: "Intelligence and Facts Being Fixed Around The Policy"? But instead of the media doing their jobs, like they should have done before a war, we have over 2100 Precious Lives LOST ON A PACK OF BUSH LIES. Where is the OBL News Coverage and the Soldiers to catch that bastard? The Media and The Bush Administration don't give a damn about him, even though he financed and planned the "Day That Will Live in Infamy - Version Two! Where are the deep-digging news reporters to find out why we let all of OBL's brothers get out of The US immediately after 9/11? Have you ever heard why? I didn't think so. Osama bin Laden, who bombed us on 9/11 with jet aircraft, is still safe in his cave in Afghanistan! And Osama Bin Laden doesn't have to lift a damn finger to recruit for Al Qaida, because we are doing all of it for him with Arab Anger enraged against us with the Iraq War! Just look at the terror bombings still going on right now in Iraq!! But have no fear after reading this folks. After all, we did get the guy that tried to kill Bush's Daddy! Tom Wieliczka Subject: National Review's John Derbyshire's Fetish on Pre & Post-pubescent Girls Am I mistaken, but it wasn't too long ago that the vile pornographer, John Derbyshire, who poses as a journalist/pundit (like so many) for the National Review rag, was publically advocating the murder of Chelsea Clinton? http://www.nationalreview.com/derbyshire/derbyshire022201.shtml http://ai.eecs.umich.edu/people/conway/TS/Derbyshire/Who-is-JD.html Will Wyche Subject: The Sacrifice of the Few The loss of a son or daughter is so truly devastating that those who do not experience it have no idea what it does to those who do. People do go on after losing a child. They will smile and feel happiness, although there will always be a hole in their heart. The are over 2100 military families who are experiencing that pain this Holiday Season. Holiday because not only Christian military personnel died. How loathsome to use this season to further divide our country by worrying about how someone wishes you the peace and joy of the season. There will be empty places at Holiday tables this year. There will be the lack of familiar, beloved voices. There will be pain beyond the comprehension of those who have never lost a child. There will be the unwanted thought that this is how it will always be. Not just this Holiday. This child will never come home again. Some parents can make peace and move on. Still not heart whole and complete but able to move on. For others that process takes longer. For some the healing never comes. Those sympathetic folks who rallied round in your immediate pain begin to be little impatient. “It is time to move on”, you will be told. And if you can not? A child lost in a far away war must be a particular horror. I cannot share your pain. I can sympathize with it, but I cannot know. An accident can somehow come to be accepted. “After all”, you tell yourself, “It was an accident”. Clichés and platitudes. I know that particular pain; my only daughter died in a car accident nearly twenty years ago. We all cope in our own way. If the loss of your child is best endured by believing that they died in a noble cause that is your privilege. But never to dare to decide how others bear their own loss. Of all the unchristian, un-American things that have appalled me this last year the most appalling are the attacks against Cindy Sheehan. She is working through her pain in her own way. She paid a high price to express that right. She does not want another parent to feel the same pain. Disagreeing with her is your right. Those who attack the mother of a marine who died in the service of his country are beyond contempt. What marine would want his own grieving mother treated with less than respect? Don’t like what she says? Tough. Her son died for the rights of all to speak their piece. Marjorie L. Swanson Subject: Re: Friday's Top BuzzFlash Headlines Dear BuzzFlash, I really do appreciate what you are doing but it is silently driving me crazy that you have an aspect or two of this debacle all wrong. You seem to think that because Bush has overseen the creation and destruction of some incredibly successful scams, they represent failures on his part. But that is because, I suspect, you think Arbusto or Harken were ever intended to be thriving, successful companies. Does the name Carl Icahn mean anything to you? Look, Bush is a master of the pyramid scheme ... get it? He goes in, coerces investors, procures contracts vis-a-vis his political clout, and then rapes the company to death. What do you think he is doing to the United States? He intends to BREAK THE BANK ... meaning the U.S. Treasury, while privatizing our lives and livelihoods."I am a WAR PRESIDENT!!!" (He said that.) Once he has broken our financial ability to function as a government -- and he is nearly there with debt raging out of control and China holding he NOTE! -- he will give us all over to the highest bidders ... i.e., the corporations that support him. Meanwhile he and his cronies rake all the money of our government into that 1% bottomless pit of aristocracy ... "It's good to be back among my own!" (at a banquet for his wealthiest contributors after he "won" the Republican nomination for presidential candidate). Or, my favorite quote to remind myself all the time ... "By the time it is all said and done I will have made more money than I could ever possibly imagine!" He wasn't commenting on his lack of imagination, you know. So, that is my two-cents worth. Now, please reconsider your stance that he is just a big, dumb stupid head, o.k.? So far, things are going pretty much according to plan for him. It's just that we don't fare well in that plan! Sincerely, Carla S. Easterling Subject: Hillary Clinton I keep reading about people not wanting to support Hillary in a bid for president because of her continued "hawkish" views on Iraq. What follows is a copy of the email many of us recieved from her prior, to BushCo's so-called victory in Iraq speech. Letter to Constituents on Iraq Policy She does what many Democrats still will not, admit that they took the administration at its word about seeking a true coalition and that war would be the last resort. She admits that she would not vote for war if she knew then what is known now. However, she is being truthful in the fact that we cannot just leave Iraq after what we have done to it, destroying its security, its infrastructure, etc. Remember, too, our Congressional reps still do not have all the information that is available to the administration, or that she would have as president. It would be folly for her to make promises based on the information (lies) that are still handed out by BushCo and Rummy's Pentagon. I hate to think of all the deaths that we have caused based on lies, American and Iraqi, and I do not want to see one more death for these lies, but remember who did the lying ... We must stand united against the conservative attempt to make this a permanent one-party majority, and we will do this best by putting up a united front against them, no matter who the Democrat is '08. Please do not allow a third party candidate like Ralph Nader deny what this country really needs, a major change in leadership and a return to the moral responsibility that we have for all our citizens, as well as the rest of the world. A third party candidate, while I agree has all the right in the world to run, will do nothing but split us apart. America has truly been damaged, and we need time to heal. Mrs. Clinton's plan, while not specifically setting a timetable, is very close to what Rep. Murtha's is. We will need time to bring in true allies to assist in the rebuilding of Iraq, and preventing Iran or another of its neighbors from taking advantage of the instability we have caused, as well as helping to keep down the sectarian violence. As we draw down our troops, the Iraqis will have to fight for their country. But please, do not write off any Democrat, except, perhaps Lieberman. It is to important for us to become, and stay, united. Cindy Subject: For Oil and Country For those pundits, journalists, and American citizens who are still confused about George W. Bush’s mission in Iraq and his definition of victory, let me attempt to clarify both terms. Before the war, Dick Cheney discussed both with his secretive, by invitation only, Energy Task Force in 2001. In attendance were most all oil industry CEOs; not attending, were members of the opposing party and ANWAR proponents lobbying to protect the Alaskan wilderness. Contrary to conventional thinking, Mr. Cheney did not invite environmental groups because of their concern for potential damage to pristine regions or the unfettered abuse Big Oil has on this country’s citizens, but kept them out of the discussion because of our intention to take the oil fields of Iraq. The mission was to invade the country, wrest the oil from Saddam Hussein, and secure them for American interests. The events of 9/11 in the midst of a new war, as we have seen, actually enabled his premature ‘MISSION ACCOMPLISHED’ banner to be draped on the bridge of the Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier. Victory, under his terms, meant to preserve the vast storehouse of oil deposits for the United States into perpetuity despite extreme economic and horrendous human costs to both nations. But now after two years his mission is virtually complete. But his victory remains elusive and, sadly for this president and his legacy, it will remain so. Senator Stevens, ironically the senator from Alaska, when questioning oil executives in Congress recently, did not place them under oath. To do so may have uncovered secret U. S. energy planning two years before the war. James D. Cook Subject: Schwarzenegger's New Chief of Staff "Ah-noldt" is not a hypocrite. He has made a good choice, a rightwing democrat opportunist, to sell his battered agenda to the moderates whom he needs if he's to get re-elected. When Ms. Kennedy was on the Calif. Public Utilities Commission she was known for her pro business stance. Der Gübernator's new chief of staff is not so far off the "reservation" as one might think. Rick Subject: A Culture of Corruption? Washington does not have a culture of corruption, it has a cascade of corruption. A cornucopia of corruption. A criminal crescendo of corruption. Just put a wall around the capital, a few guard towers and voila, our newest prison! A new scandal involving the redistricting of Texas? Nothing that comes out of Texas should surprise anyone. Only Molly Ivins and Jim Hightower give any hope that there may be intelligent life forms in Texas. However this latest malfeasance comes from the Justice Department. According to the Washington Post, Justice Department lawyers believed that the Texas congressional redistricting play violated the Voting Rights Act. Senior Officials overruled them and presto, chango, Congress got five additional Republican members. Ahh yes, Republican Chicanery, the gift that keeps on giving. Not that all crooks are Republicans. Crooks are to be found on both sides of the aisle. There are so many more Republican Crooks right now because they feel safe. What are those wimpy minority Democrats going to do? They have no subpoena power. The ethics committee was revamped by the majority party so that it was totally dysfunctional. Even wimps can be pushed just so far and the Democrats simply refused to have any part of this charade. The new rules that would have allowed Tom DeLay to continue as majority leader while under indictment were scrapped. There have always been crooks in Washington. There always will. It is only when the criminals become so blatantly obvious that Americans finally come out of their fog of indifference. Not enough to vote out incumbents who are almost guaranteed a return to the scene of the crime. Oh, no, not my Representative. Not my Senator. It’s those crooks from another state that are giving government a bad name. Right. It has been suggested that we need to vote every man and woman in Washington out of office and start over from scratch. Granted there are sure to be some new crooks elected. We need to send the message that you stay in office only so long as you behave yourself. Politicians need to know that the People are watching them. Maybe we could outsource their jobs to some place with an honest government. Does anyone know where one might be found? The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing. If you can fake that, you've got it made. Groucho Marx Marjorie L. Swanson Subject: Miami Shield As of this week, under a project known as "Miami Shield," random citizens can and will be accosted in public places. The DHS will demand your "papers," will demand to see the contents of your backpack, purse, or pockets. This is intended to throw off terrorists by it's "randomness." It will not deter terrorists. It will, however, accustom American citizens to giving up our civil rights. As currently happens at the airport, righteous indignation will be indicative of your guilt. This is an outrage. Incidentally, from the sunshine state: Katherine Harris, the former Florida Secretary of State and friend of Jeb Bush, who ensured Junior's Florida win, is running against Bill Nelson in the next election. If she wins we will know without a doubt that our votes matter not. Leslie Y Darienzo Subject: "The Higher They Climb, the More They Show Their Arse!" -- fractured from Aldous Huxley Torture, Abuse, Rendition, Chemical Warfare, and now the Pentagon PAYS One hundred million to plant stories in Iraqi newspaper and even OWN a newspaper in Iraq. Now we add more deception to that already too long list. Aren’t we setting a wonderful example for the Iraqis, our principles have been leading a double life, between what we say, and what we do. For all to see, the Bush government’s actions have once again put our principles in the gutter! There has been evidence this government, and its Iraqi counterparts, have altered, stifled news, and lowered the bar on journalistic standards in Iraq. At home with the Armstrong Williams debacle, and others being paid by the Bushies, then reporters like Judith Miller promoting Chalabi lies and other pre-war “FIXED NEWS” stories AS FACTS! Our government under Bush and its credibility takes one hit after another. How can we promote a free press in Iraq and by our very actions undermine it??? With secrecy, scandals, lies, and many recent developments of corruption from Bush and his gang, it’s clear with the examples they have set it has undermined our Democracy and respect at home and abroad. As Aldous Huxley once said about Napoleon, and now can be aptly applied to George W. Bush and his cronies as well, “THE HIGHER HE CLIMBS, THE MORE HE SHOWS HIS ARSE!”!” What more has to come down the line and will be added to the already disgusting Bush Government’s culture of corruption?? In the eyes of the world we have already fallen far from the honorable position we once held, and now we will have the “blowback” of more deception to cover an already tarnished image! The Pentagon hiding behind the Lincoln Corp run by a staunch young Republican, this corporation is described:
Americans are still waiting to hear about the progress that is being made in Phase Two of the once promised 9/11 Investigation of the Administration’s shortcomings. Has this also been stonewalled like so many other investigations? It seems to be out of sight, out of mind as far as the media is concerned and the short memory and promises of certain Congressmen.
To give you an idea of the way the slimeballs in the Republican party twist the truth, Pat Buchanan in his shocking interview, actually excused this deceptive practice, explaining it as “All of the tools of democracy to try to save democracy. It is not illegitimate. Chris, we are in a real world.” Many would answer, “No, Pat, when you call corruption 'tools of Democracy.' you are living in BUSHWORLD!” In trying to promote their unjust and failing War in Iraq and all the "misinformation" they have given to the American people, a clear fact is that Bush and his dishonest cronies have never learned the lesson that Shakespeare quoted, “NO LEGACY IS SO RICH AS HONESTY!” Susan Carr Subject: Cunningham Let's see ... Duke Cunningham has admitted to fraud and misuse of public funds (using bribery money and his office for services). That would seem to make the funds he collected for his campaigns illegal, since he used the funding to obtain a position that allowed criminal activity to take place. Now we see that the money he gave to other Republicans (money obtained fraudulently) is being donated to charities, making those office holders look good in their constituents' eyes. Somehow, to my uneducated mind, this seems a lot like money laundering, since the recipients are mostly lawyers and should be aware that these funds were taken fraudulently. A BuzzFlash Reader Subject: The genius of Rum-Dumb Ha ha. Freaking genius has nearly killed more of our people than Bin Laden now... http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/news/bh/rumsfeld.shtml jj Subject: Another Good Documentary Hello again BuzzFlash, Special thanks to Shirley in St. Louis for taking the time to respond to my post about the documentary "Hijacking Catastrophe." I also have Fahrenheit 9/11 and have watched it at least three times but another documentary that came to mind was Bush Family Fortunes by Greg Palast. It really exposes the blatant manipulation and corruption in disenfranchising all those African American LEGITIMATE voters in Florida and the extensive measures the military took to clean and cover up Bush's "military record" (if you can call it that). It's a hard hitting expose on the the Bush family ties and crimes. Also "In Plane Sight" was powerful in exposing the lies in the "official story" given to the general public about 9/11 and "Painful Deceptions An Analysis of the September 11th Attack" picked apart some of those troubling questions about that day that NEVER got any answers. Shirley, I am with you a hundred percent, but sadly there are still those out there who believe that frat boy in the White house. I just recieved an e-mail from a woman who lives here locally in my area who said that her heart bleeds for the innocent Iraqis who suffer but that their lives would have been "just as bad or worse" under Saddam. She went on to say that Bush would be vindicated in the end and to mark her words on that one. Then she went on to tell me that she was sure Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction and she was entirely sure that, given the chance, he would use them against us in a minute. She finished by telling me that she is sure that Bush had intelligence and info he couldn't share with the American People but even though times are hard right now we just have to trust our leaders that they know what they're doing even if we don't. Shirley, in every other way, this woman is gracious, diplomatic, and courteous as well as intelligent. I just can't wrap my mind around this one, but this woman is the second "staunch supporter of President Bush" I have met in the last two months. She also gave me the usual hype that "We are over there spreading freedom and democracy and it takes time but it takes time and can get messy." She said she remembered Pearl Harbor and World War II as a child, and the Korean War, Vietnam, and Gulf War One. She did say that she hates violence and war and has seen first-hand what it can do, but it's part of human nature and, according to her, the reason we don't get attacked on our own soil is because of people like "President Bush" and his attitude. Needless to say, I was and still am stunned by that e-mail and still struggling with it. All the best to you, Shirley of St. Louis, and all you other buzzers out there who keep beating back the darkness with light, truth, patience and sheer will and determination. Dominie Subject: Scissors on Airplanes I am a supporter of BuzzFlash and the work you do. However, too often the headlines either promote a point different from or irrelevant to the article associated. On some occasions the headlines are plain stupid. That is, unfortunately, the case with the headline BuzzFlash used for the the Chicago Trib story regarding changes in TSA rules regarding tools and small scissors. The entire passenger security program has been and remains a PR charade, not a serious security program. Anyone I have spoken with who, like me, actually knows something about security and is also a frequent flyer (until retirement two years ago I flew about 200,000 a year) agrees that the procedures, rules and staff did little, if anything, to improve cabin security. The rule prohibiting cuticle scissors is as good an example as any. Really folks, as any woman who has taken a course in self-defense knows, a car key is a far more lethal weapon than a "small scissor." However, the worst aspect of this misleading and ill-informed headline is that it reinforces the mythology of fear that has turned this country upside down and sideways. Please, think before you post. Dave Collins
Subject: Anti-Schmidt Ads Seems ironic doesn't it, that you can pay journalists to print propaganda but you can't pay advertisers to print advertising? Maybe the DNC should just call up a newspaper and pay them to run anti-Schmidt ads as news. Richard Stencil Subject: Please post as a shocking reminder Bush, what do you mean when you and the republicans say the economy is doing just great? U.S. NATIONAL DEBT CLOCK The Outstanding Public Debt as of 02 Dec 2005 at 10:15:09 PM GMT is: $8,111,750,389,453.19 Eight trillion, 111 billion, 750 million, 389 thousand, 453 dollars and 19 cents... and... counting! The estimated population of the United States is 297,867,976 so each citizen's share of this debt is $27,232.70. The National Debt has continued to increase an average of $2.83 billion per day since September 30, 2005! http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/ Cathy L.
