The BuzzFlash Mailbag The opinions expressed in the Mailbag are not necessarily those of BuzzFlash. Read the BuzzFlash FAQ for info on submitting to the Mailbag. Subject: Chickenhawk-in-chief Lays the Wreath at Arlington What can one say about Cheney, who sought and received five draft deferments to evade service during Vietnam, laying the wreath on the sacred Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington--all while scores continue to die in a war he lied us into. It is beyond belief that those in the military who know what honor and sacrifice really is, could let this travesty transpire. Cheney is truly a soulless person. RA Subject: Torture As an Arizonan, I take no pride in the officials from my state in the government. They are all 'girlie' men...did McCain finally wake up to the fact of TORTURE...what a guy...ass kisser galore to bush during the last campaign and now he suddenly has a conscience...as I said before 'W H A T A G U Y.' NOT Suzy Subject: The Time for Accountability Is Now Hey Fellow Buzzers, With the 2006 midterms upon us, it is time for us to show our supposed representatives in Washington what the nature of accountability is. This Congress had a sacred and lawful responsibility in exercising oversight and restraint of this administration. The power to declare war lies with Congress, not the Executive branch. More than truth was shredded, more than lives were lost. The very concept of checks and balances and the wisdom of divided government were laid asunder. Our Congress, Republican and Democrat alike, made a collective decision to be Bush's Bitch. They accepted his lies and false rationales, which anyone remotely versed in the skills of deductive reasoning, could easily pull apart. Never mind the volumes of contradictory evidence. For whatever reason-- political expediency, cowardice, greed, and power lust-- this Congress abrogated its responsibility! Period. The reasons don't matter. At the critical juncture when judgment, restraint, and temperance were most called for, out representatives failed us. And can the results be any more catastrophic for our security, the well-being of our sons and daughters in uniform, for our treasury, for our international standing, for our moral integrity as a people? THIS ADMINISTRATION AND THEIR ENABLERS IN CONGRESS ARE AN AFFRONT TO EVERYTHING GOOD AND NOBLE ABOUT AMERICA. Why, they do not even believe in the rule of law anymore; and yet we still treat them with deference as though there is anything legitimate in their actions in this debacle. So now the question is simply this: how shall we reward these craven, sick, killers? Yes, I say killers. The answer is simple, during the primary season; simply vote for any challenger to these incumbents. Never mind the general elections, TAKE THEM OUT IN THE PRIMARIES! Simply say no. It is a simple litmus test. Did you vote for the war? YOU HAVE TO GO! Then, when we have a new Congress, preferably a Democratic one, but regardless, a chastened and sober Congress, we can then use the power of Congress to investigate the plethora of crimes, duplicity, self-dealing and war profiteering that have been the hallmark of this administration. It is essential that we reassert the rule of law, that we bring these war criminals to the bar, if not at home, then through an international tribunal. Our integrity as a nation demands nothing less. There is no more time for quaffing apologist or for right-wing partisans who dismiss this skullduggery as a means to an end; perfectly acceptable AS LONG AS IT'S THEIR PARTY DOING IT. Yes, in addition to removing the enablers in Congress, we need to get in the face of those rank and file Republicans who cling to shifting rationales in their defense of the indefensible. This is their mess as much as it is Bush's and Congress's. Jay Subject: Pertinent Quotes I do a lot of surfing, and I don't recall where I found these. I don't know who to give credit for the first quote. Any party that would lie to start a war would also steal an election. "When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross." -- Sinclair Lewis I'd say these quotations are the truth, wouldn't you? I'd say fascism is here now, and as far as the first quote goes, anybody who has a brain knows the 2004 election was stolen. I'd say the 2000 one too, IMO. A BuzzFlash Reader not only is bush stubborn, but he is clueless!! that makes his stubbornness dangerous! he is not a thinker, he is lazy beyond words, he has been a disaster for the u s, and all the people who voted for him should be ashamed!!!! as to the WMD, hans blix and the u n were in iraq for 5? years and found NOTHING. all those lilly-livered politicians (including John Kerry) that say they were misled, i say "bulls**t." were they asleep??????? this is from a viet vet stationed in vietnam while bush was boozing and drugging and jumping over 500 other american guys, who had no powerful fathers and friends, to take a slot in the texas air national guard. and he didn't even fulfill that duty. A BuzzFlash Reader Subject: Bush Describes Himself Hi, Buzz!! Anita Rufus asks if she is the only one who notices that when Bush condemns terrorists, he's describing himself? She is not the only one; I've noticed it too. He consistently describes terrorists such as Osama bin Laden in terms that exactly match his own attitudes and actions. While he was in South America recently, he also condemned Pres. Chavez of Venezuela for "failing to provide for his own people." I wonder if the name "Katrina" means anything to Bush? Take heart, Ms. Rufus; you are not alone. Jane Hawes Subject: Reaction to Robert Scheer Firing I cancelled the fu**ing, bull**it L.A. Times today. They can Max Boot/Jonah Goldberg these. Sincerely, George Rodriguez Subject: The Boxer and the Runner Anyone see Bush present the Medal of Freedom to Muhammed Ali this past week? Two sports figures united. Ali, the boxer who lost his career by refusing to take part in an immoral war; and Bush, the one who ran from one war and started another. Mike Curtis Subject: Countdown Last night Olbermann did a masterful smackdown of O'Reilly for calling for the Al Qaeda destruction of San Francisco and also of Robertson for threatening the people of Dover, PA with destruction at the hand of God...also, Rick Santorum won the daily "Worst Person in the World" award for rank hypocrisy re the issue of caps for medical malpractice suits... I don't know how to link this up to the BuzzFlash website but I think y'all should do it if you can A BuzzFlash Reader Subject: US Passes New Law Denying their Citizens Right to Trial etc. They (the cabal) certainly keep tryin' don't they?.....a mouse on a wheel.....make that a rat........
A BuzzFlash Reader Subject: But, he visits some of the wounded When asked about veterans being hounded by creditors to pay for the body armor that he sent them to Iraq without, Scott McClellan responded that Bush visits hospitals. Not only did Bush send them to war on manufactured evidence, he sent them without the proper equipment and still says he supports troops. The Disabled American Vets went after him because of all the cuts in benefits while he is producing more disabled vets as we speak and he still says Bush supports the troops. Bush himself says he proves he supports the troops by sending more to be shot at and says if he isn’t allowed to kill and maim as many as he sees fit then everyone back to the “real” minutemen have died in vain. The only troops Bush supports are the ones who paid for his election and not many of them have ever fought in a real war. He goes about the business of cutting everything, including school lunch programs, to pay for the war and Katrina relief while giving more breaks to the CEOs of big oil. George W. Bush should award himself the Presidential Medal of Arrogance. Speak up or they assume you agree!!! ABB Karen Webb Subject: Oil Barons Hi Buzz, Can anyone tell me of any reason why the Big Oil Barons with the billions of profit ....weren't sworn in before their testimony? Why are they above this....hmmmmmmmm? Buzz, can you find out how many of those who are doing the "questioning "....have interests in big oil.......maybe that would explain it........hmmmmmm Genie [BuzzFlash Note: Open Secrets and Political Money Line might help you track big oil and other campaign contributions.] Subject: nuttiness in an otherwise sane country Once again ...Pat Robertson strikes....with his insanity and his useless drivel! Also, this time...in close second....Bill O'Reilly has done it again...invited Al Qaeda to strike San Francisco...even down to naming the building....the Coit building? Why don't one of these people....get up off their backsides and sue this man? We know he is insane....but, he does not! He thinks he is being cute...and all the ladies of Fox net....will be attracted to him...the ugly balding egoist! He is a disgusting piece of human flotsam! Pat was giving it to Dover, Pa? I think... he said if they had problems...do not pray to God, because they have already denounced God. Who in the world got together and made them spokespersons for this country!!!!??? Oh, yeah...I forgot ...the president of the United States talks just like this. Today...instead of praising the young people he has in Iraq trying to make a name for himself ... he took the opportunity to bash every democrat who voted to let him go to this war.....hey, if he was wrong...every democrat was wrong.....except Kennedy...who did not vote for it. He saw through the lies.... Bush really did not get much in the way of cheers....many people looked as if they were ashamed to be there...some clapped...but, not like they used to! It is sad to see a president...go down in flames....but rewarding! To every single american fighting this war in Iraq...and to all vets of Vietnam...Korea, WW 2...and all of them....we praise you....we are proud of you...and feel inept to be as brave as any one of you! But, we want you home....no more deaths! Incidentally...readers....let's donate to Buzz.....we do not ever want to lose our means of news...I read it elsewhere...but, I come here to verify....time to give!!! Shirley..............St. Louis Subject: Ok to kill? to the media Jesus God! I too will not let my children talk to military recruiters...does that mean it is ok to come to my home and kill me and my kids?!!!!!!!!! Know one in the bush family immediate or extended wants their kids in the military, does o'reilly think they are fair game for the terrorists? in fact none of o'reilly's kids want to join the military and fight for their country...is it ok for the terrorists to kill them? Jesus god, not only is he a pervert, he is a danger to our country! Sharon Swift P.S. I'm starting to think all these right-wing people are nuts! Subject: Firefighters O'Reilly: Coit Tower is a memorial to the firefighters who fell in the great fire of San Francisco. And you have invited terrorists to "blow it up" along with the rest of that heavily populated city. You have asked for mayhem and suffering in the city in which my nephew lives. Apparently, these people must be punished because they do not obey your pontifications. The great O'Reilly - a man who has never gone into harm's way for his fellow citizens. The great O'Reilly: a man who, like most bullies, is a craven coward. He seems to possess a hyperinflated perspective of his own importance. I will help to spread the word regarding your opinion of firefighter memorials. Maybe you should invite terrorists to vandalize the cemetery at Arlington, Virginia, while you are at it. After all - those Gold Star Mothers seem to disagree with you as well. Michael J. Fowler Subject: The War Effort is Wrong Because It Was Based on Lies...(Letter to the NY Times) I seriously doubt that they will publish this letter, but I feel these assertions by Bush must be answered back. The media must know what our thoughts are.
Sincerely, Mary MacElveen Subject: Once Upon a Time the Fairy-tale Began ... Since George W. Bush came to office we have seen an epidemic of avoiding blame, transferring blame and of serial liars at work!! We have witnessed the Bush/Rovian Political Machine “fix policy,” exaggerate, deny, rationalize, and create one scapegoat after another. With Bush, his Administration and most Republicans, we have seen a “deficit of honesty” and a “culture of corruption” that has never existed before to the extent of the present corrupt group of government leaders. We have seen untold character assassinations! George W. Bush and the NeoCons are the ones who have been in power, and blaming the Democrats DOES NOT EXCUSE THEIR ACTIONS! It will NOT drain the force of responsibility that should rightfully be placed on their heads! Ron Suskind’s book, “The Price of Loyalty,” about U.S. Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill’s experience in the inner circle of the Bush Administration states: ON JANUARY 30th, 2001, 10 days after the Bush Inauguration, George W. Bush met with the principals of his National Security Council for the first time! O’Neill describes the meeting in detail, even to remembering the seating of those present which included Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld, Tenet, Joint Chiefs of Staff General Hugh Shelton, Andy Card, Colin Powell and O’Neill himself. The designated topic was “Mideast Policy!” During this meeting according to O’Neill’s account, the following conversation took place. Bush said, “Sometimes a show of strength by one side can really clarify things!” Bush turned to Rice, “So Condi, what are we going to talk about today? What’s on the Agenda? In what many understood was a scripted exchange, Rice noted, "IRAQ MAY BE THE 'KEY' TO RESHAPING THE ENTIRE REGION!!! "The first meeting, ten days after being put in power and getting Hussein was the focus and they all were given assignments relating to getting that job done! In the book, “Against All Enemies,” Richard Clarke states, “Iraq was portrayed as the most dangerous thing in national security, an idée fixe, a rigid belief, received wisdom a decision already made and one that no fact or event could derail.” Both Clarke and O’Neill have been at the wrong end of a verbal cannon of false charges levied against them by the Bush/Rove Political Machine! George Bush has the dubious honor of more books written just about “his lies” alone! There have been incidents before those I mentioned, and many more before or after 9/11, where Bush and his gang deliberately misled the American public. From the beginning there was the intent to deceive by omission and commission. Their dauntless effort amidst shifting justifications to take us to war on a false premise, cherry–pick information, and misrepresent the facts has not stopped to this day. It has cost us {and the Iraqis} heavily in death! The exorbitant spending for an ill-fated war has also meant cutbacks in services for our citizens. Pat Roberts is still playing the slow-walking game with Phase Two Intelligence Report. This past week we haven’t heard as much from the media about the fibs told by Rove, Cheney and Libby in Treasongate. Besides blaming the Democrats, as the truth becomes known it would not be too far-fetched to hear the Bush/Rove Gang quote a fractured Rove version from Robert Armstrong, “We didn’t lie. It might be our Iraq War statements gave misleading impressions, we were just being economical with the truth!” Susan Carr Subject: Truth "We need to know almost frozen in time what was known by the government before the planes hit the World Trade Center," MacMahon told the judge. The above is a direct quote from the article. Your headline: Judge in Moussaoui case: "We need to know almost frozen in time what was known by the government before the planes hit the World Trade Center." Do not distort the news to make your point. The Judge didn't say what you imputed to him...it was the defendant's attorney. Bush, Cheney, and Scott McClellan constantly distort the facts. You should exercise extreme care to be truthful and accurate. Our side will win because the truth is on our side. Keep it that way. Gordon Young [BuzzFlash Note: Thanks. We stand corrected and have made the correction on our home page.] Subject: Alaska Dear Sir, I unloaded tonite to Senator for Life Ted Stevens and Don Young via E Mail. I live here. I fully expect to get served my Security Papers. Someone has to call the carpet on this insane (or maybe not) spending. If I get arrested, I want this letter to be proof I did what I, as an old woman could do. Your news is what makes Empires fall, be careful and God bless you. Up here, I may lose everything, but I am ready to do so. They will savage my past, I can stand that in public-nothing that is illegal-just bad woman stuff-who isn't a bad woman by the time you reach 54? A BuzzFlash Reader in Alaska Subject: Return of Durbin Perhaps you could make the point that Republicans are trying to dissuade public from investigation on leading Americans to war ... that they didn't try to dissuade Congress and the Senate from investigating a land deal that Bill Clinton had done many years before he ever became president. It did not dissuade Congress or the Senate from four years of Kenneth Starr investigating everything he could get his hands on ... and it did not stop them from impeaching Bill Clinton for sex -- a much lesser offense than killing over 100,000 Iraqis and over 2100 Americans and wounding gravely over 15,000 Americans. Why are they so afraid of an investigation? They really doth protest too much. Take their statements from their rationalizations for investigating everything Bill and Hillary did ... oh and how long was Susan McDougal in jail? Way more than 85 days. It is time to ask the republicans why are they so afraid of investigations when it is about them? Do they think the American public only deserves investigations about sex and land deals but not about why the Medicare RX bill was so far over what Bush said it would be? or how we got to war? Karin Dicker Subject: Blaming Clinton - Then and Now Dear Buzz, I had hoped that the "blame Clinton" game had been played to exhaustion. But no, the republicans are at it again. This time Clinton is to blame for weakening the national intelligence apparatus. For republicans, facts are just ineffective little speed bumps in their head-on charge to get what they want - like the war in Iraq. Never mind that the intelligence was good enough for the previous administration to identify Al Qaeda as the most serious threat facing the country. Never mind that they did their best to convince the bushies of this fact. Never mind that the republicans have been the majority in congress since 2006 and could have provided additional funding for intelligence operations if that was their priority - which it wasn't. The intelligence was good enough to identify the real threat - but wasn't good enough to resist manipulation and pressure from Cheney, the WHIG and the rest of the neocons - notably including the corporate media. But you have to hand it to them, republicans do know how to appeal to their pin-head base. Blaming Clinton is like an orgasmic release for people determined to believe what they want to. They cherry pick facts now just like they did pre-war intelligence. So far too many Americans have been willing participants in this bad acid trip. But how long can reality be held at bay? Tim Mooring Subject: O'Reilly on San Francisco Hi, Buzz!! Question: If I had said - in public, in front of God and everybody - that San Francisco deserved to be bombed, does anyone out there doubt that the F.B.I. would have been on my doorstep in a matter of hours? God help us. Jane Hawes Subject: VietNam Letter to the Editor: People say we must stay the course in Iraq to stop the spread of terrorism before it reaches America. I can recall the exact same argument being made when America entered the Viet Nam War. Our great leaders in Washington D.C. said that we must draw the line on Communism in Viet Nam or the Communist will continue their march and take away our Democratic freedom. Before we tucked our tail and left Viet Nam, 58,152 of America’s finest had been killed and 153,303 had been wounded seriously enough to be hospitalized and more than 2000 are still M.I.A. Today in America, our great Industrial leaders are shipping our jobs to Communist China. Wal-Mart, etc. are destroying our balance of trade doing business with Communist China. The most troubling fact is that we are borrowing money from Communist China to pay for the Iraq war; the monetary cost of this war is, as of today, 204.5 Billion dollars and growing. Americans who use Credit Cards unwisely lose their freedom. It appears to me that America has a Credit Card President with a John Wayne Complex and this constitutes a danger to Middle Class Americans and their historic way of life. My friends, there is no way we can stop the killing and terror that is a historic part of the Middle East Culture. If we stay until the Civil War begins (or has it already started?) the different ethnic groups will be killing each other and they will all be killing and injuring our American boys and girls. The time has come to forget their OIL and leave them to solve their own unique problems Jim Townsend [BuzzFlash Note: Thanks for reminding readers, some of whom didn't live through the Viet Nam war, about that nightmare. But we should also remember that terror doesn't belong exclusively to the Middle East's cultures, as the http://faculty.ncwc.edu/... web site and others explain.] Subject: George W, The Son King As a cartoonist for the feisty "New Hampshire Gazette," I have written what I hope is a breezy, irreverent book in words and pictures focusing on the last five years of the Bush debacle, a critical survey of the damage wrought by the fear monger in chief and his gang of hooligans. Our democracy is on life-support and badly in need of a progressive transplant. My book, “George W, The Son King," is my small contribution to our doddering democracy’s well-being. But the book -- published by a desktop publisher-- essentially remains well-concealed under a rock, often the fate, alas, of these sort of these cottage-industry publishing endeavors. So I am trying every avenue I can find to shout from the rooftops. The book -- equal parts screed, lampoon, polemic and indictment -- is an attempt to cut through the fog of bamboozle, cant and legerdemain so beloved of this administration. Though I am deadly serious about the fate of our republic I hope the book offers enough mischief and impropriety along the way to ease the reader’s pain as he or she struggles at pealing away the effect of four-plus years of blatant lying, illegal propaganda, corruption, incompetence and secrecy. Mike Dater Subject: Brazen Someone should start a website called: How brazen is Dick Cheney? I'll start: Dick Cheney is so brazen he would rob a convenience store and then hold a press conference the next day outside the same store decrying people who hold up convenience stores while the tape of the event played in the background. A BuzzFlash Reader Subject: Mess We Are In (Sunday Nov 13) Hi, I am writing this morning, after losing BuzzFlash for two days and my e mail address, still, since Friday after the speech. I start wondering (am I getting paranoid) if this is a way to keep the dissenters to the new spin quiet for a few days until the masses have soaked up the "new truth." The natives getting restless is not in the plan. Has anyone else had this experience or is it just here, I am wondering? I got into the internet through my husband's local, but until this morning the Buzz page was unavailable. What a convenient time to shut up the dissenters while the new truth spins! Isn't it strange how Bush tells untruths but Clinton lied? One more comment on a different subject which has been worn out of the news, but I have been going to write about for awhile. The "under God" thing in the Pledge. Any Christian (I believe) would be told that God is all power and is everywhere. How does a mere mortal think they can remove God or put (him-her) into anything? The next word in the pledge is the important one at this moment since it is the relevant word to the day. Indivisible? The dividing is happening as they speak, continually, but this is the best example I have seen of how the Christians are blatantly being used to further the neocon agenda. It would also be the real attempt to take God (Good) out. Suellen Subject: QUOTE
