The powers-that-be are trying desperately to convince the public that the victims of Katrina will be best served via the charity route, not through direct government assistance. If the public buys into such trickery, it will be much easier for these scoundrels to pull off the same scam in regards to social security, health care, education, global warming, you name it? Whatever one's survival needs it'll be "It's up to you. If you fail, you'll have only yourself to blame. You didn't have what it takes."
Beware when charity is all there is and there ain't nothing else! People suffer. People die. That's how come our safety net got built in the first place During the last century we the people won it by way of our struggle to change the world. The struggle continues.

Okay...from the beginning....Genie and Erin....thank you for replies... I know it was terribly frustrating...but, after watching the depression that was New Orleans..and the way the idiot in Chief reacted.....I really wonder what we can do. So many have allowed him to get away with what he has....and he has such gall!! How would Bill Clinton have gotten by...had he refused to testify to anything (he should have)...but, Bush refuses to even allow an independent investigation in any of these things...and of course, the 911 thing was a pack of lies before he classified 40 some pages.
This is a little humor...but, I think it was Jocelyn from Florida...who said she had an aunt that sent her right wing forwards all the time? Well, I have today just come home, checking my mail...and of course, found another from a silly cousin...who forwards these things to me. I have written to her and scathingly crucified George Bush! This one was an article some hillbilly had written...regarding what she "had seen in New Orleans, after the hurricane." It was basically heaping praise on the christians of the nation...neighbors...the great job FEMA had done??? HUH???....everything that never happened, some so unreal, I could not stop myself, I think I might have screamed! (she also mentioned the thugs robbing stores) I replied..."Yes, I saw all the things you did...the christian people helping each other out, the thugs robbing stores...etc. etc. etc..." All the good she saw was not good at all. For instance...the letter said that FEMA had done a great job...that stopped me cold in my tracks! Then this letter continued with what they did NOT see." No ACLU with stands up to help...No Hillary or Ted helping out" (can you imagine what these hillbillies do with their time...when the republicans own us and they find time to squeeze in criticism of Hillary and Ted? he continued..."No Jesse Jackson (or some other black person...I cannot remember). Well, I was seeing red by now...unfortunately, at the same time she was sending this to me...she was sending it to my Democrat cousin who had his signs torn down...$1000 dollar billboard signs...as advertisement for his election...Yeah...down there in hillbilly country! (he was cheated out of a seat in the Missouri house...much like fed. elections)
I replied to the rightwingnut cousin..."Yes, Barb, I saw all the things you saw...the poor people starving to death...little babies starving...no water...no help at all. I saw that for two solid days, before anyone came...I saw New Orleans cops crying...2 suicides and many who were so overwhelmed, they did not even show up, or maybe tried to save their families." Yes, I saw it all. But, what I did not see was..."A president who came to the area for 5 days...five solid days! I saw no National Guard until the Friday after the hurricane hit, because the president did not want to bring them home from his phony war in Iraq...FEMA had to go through such horrors to even get in and feed the hungry since they are a part of Homeland Security...the rules to go by do not take into consideration anything but bombing!" And, I still had a lot to tell her...I will write it...and hope she forwards it to all her ignorant friends...in her little town.
I thought she was such a dear, too...but, boy...does a brainwashing administration tear up families!
PS: To the buzzreader in San Francisco...I would love to see that sign!...I'd love a laugh right now!!
Subject: Bush's "Moral" Base
To all those wondering why Bush doesn't have a 0% approval rating, it's because his supporters are as sleazy, corrupt, and power hungry as he is. Abuse of children by the Catholic church is not new, but I feel it can not be repeated enough. What got me most about this article is the 11 year old girl forced to have an abortion by a priest that raped and impregnated her. How mind bogglingly hypocritical. I don't believe in hell, but sometime I wish there were one.
Grand jury harshly criticizes Archdiocese for hiding clergy sexual abuse (Philadelphia Inquirer)
Subject: Bush Drinking?
I always thought it was strange when Bush showed up with a strange red mark on his face and it was later explained that he choked on a pretzel and fell on his face. Very strange. Then I look back further to when Bush had another strange red mark on his face during the drama over the 2000 election. That mark was explained to be the result of a boil that was lanced. How many people do you know who show up twice with strange marks on their face and even more peculiar explanations to go with them?
I used to know an alcoholic who was always showing up with strange marks on his face with strange explanations. It is just my own suspicion, but I have always believed that he might have fallen off the wagon a couple of times just because of those marks. Also, the Enquirer has been known to be very accurate about things at times.
Just an interesting little web site that has a damn good idea.
Get some elected officials into office in 2006 who'll get the Impeachment ball rolling. They really do have to make it their priority and their first order of business once they are sworn into Congress.
Subject: Al Gore
Granted that Al Gore is a good and decent man with vision enough to appreciate the dire straits in which we flounder as a nation, and granted that we'd be better off had his victory in 2000 not been stolen in a criminal abuse of the electoral process.
However, the question that has never been addressed is why he accepted the treasonous acts of election 2000 and backed away from any confrontation with the malefactors at the moment of his greatest political influence? He could have done something in November, 2000, he could have challenged the abuse of judicial power, the judicial "activism" of the Supreme Court, which had no business interfering with the rulings of the Florida judiciary. He behaved in a cowardly way, friends. He abdicated his responsibility and cravenly slunk off, handing the victory to his criminal opponent without a fuss.
He's been trying to make up for his failure ever since. But the truth is, he's got no spine, he's an invertebrate like every other leader of the Democratic Party establishment. He's full of a belated and impotent sound and fury. We are where we are because we have leaders like him, well meaning, well informed, but gutless.
Subject: Bush's Demand for American Charity
Yes, I say "demand," as it seems mandated that we must do so. Bush has asked us so many times to give, give, give, when HE TAKES, TAKES, TAKES away from others - their sons, their daughters, their brothers, their sisters, their grandsons, their grand-daughters, their nephews, their nieces, their livelihood, their health, their hopes and dreams and futures, for starters. He bleeds us dry when we have given so much. We are the compassionate ones and he just pretends to be compassionate to put on a show. Just how much more can we bleed? It is like he wants us to bleed to death and become like pale morose forms walking the planet. We should know already in our hearts when our neighbors need help, don't you think? Many already have sacrificed beyond their limitations. Yet this man has the nerve to constantly tell us to keep giving? He expects us to foot the whole bill - when other countries come to aid, to help carry the burden, he will not accept a lot of it, and we will pay dearer than ancient Israel did to the Roman EMPIRE - Oh I forgot, this is the AMERICAN EMPIRE, isn't it? Oh how it makes me hurl the LAST PINT OF MY BLOOD!!!

Subject: Re: Wednesday's Headlines
Thanks for honoring Al Gore. He's the unsung hero of the Washington crowd. I believe had he been president, 9/11 would not have happened. We most assuredly would not be in Iraq. Very capable, honest guy....It's our country's loss.
Subject: Wimpy Democrats
So Senator Leahy is going to vote to confirm Judge Roberts. Well, I have just added him to my list of Democrats who love to appear before the TV cameras pretending to be concerned about the lack of information Roberts gave the judicial committee and then coming out in support of the nominee. How many other so-called Democrats are going to follow suit? From now on I will never again listen to Leahy's insincere blustering or watch his TV posturing. I have lost all respect for him.
The other Democrats who are on my list are Baucus, Conrad, Ben Nelson (a closet Republican), Dorgan, and Byrd, all of whom voted with the Republicans on Senate Resolution 20 (the resolution to rescind amount of mercury allowed to pollute the air).
For all the Democrats who send me letters asking for donations: Save your time and money. Before I contribute a penny to any candidate again, I intend to see which ones of you are willing to stand up against this corrupt administration. Didn't Bush fool you on Iraq? Are you going to allow him to euchre you again on this reconfiguration of the Supreme Court? Are Democrats someday going to be saying we wish we hadn't voted the way we did? So you aren't in the majority. Why don't you filibuster?

Subject: Bush's Alter Ego
Yesterday I was listening to Bush's speech in Louisiana. His studied articulation and inflection at the end of each sentence sounded petulant, exasperated and desperate to be believed, making him come off slightly hysterical. (An effect I've noticed many times, most often when speaking of the war on terror, of course.)
For some reason his voice made this photo by Diane Arbus come to mind, and after getting home I searched on the web until I found a decent-sized jpg file of it. Does this look like our little president's alter ego, or what? The grenade makes it even more eerily relevant.

Subject: Leahy's Egregious Sellout
Has anyone considered the possibility that Senator Leahy has decided to support Peppermint Patty for the Supreme Court because he doesn't want to receive any more anthrax letters?
Subject: Right Wing Idiocy Library
I'd love to see a collection of all the usual idiotic right wing 'talking points.' Honestly, I am continually amazed at the cognitive dissonance I see every day.
Bush is not 'resolute,' he is stubborn and unable to admit fault. ANY fault. His or anyone's remotely connected to him.
We wouldn't need to 'fight them over there' if we weren't creating new enemies faster than we could kill them.
But what usually gets me most up in arms is the assault on science, and the growing theocratic mood in this country. Here in California (a liberal place, by and large, but I live in a red area), there's been much ado about the gay marriage bill in the legislature. Of course, the Gropinator will veto it, but there's lots of debate. Today, my local right-wing rag printed several 'pro-family values' letters:
*Me again* I find myself becoming less and less tolerant of the so-called Christian right-wingers. To me, the whole gay marriage and equal rights issue is seeming more and more like the civil rights issues in the 60's. It makes me angry. It makes me ashamed that I live in a community that is intolerant. Just because you wrap your beliefs in God and the flag doesn't make it right. I sent a letter to said right-wing rag:
I am afraid of what this country is becoming. Has become. God help us.
And thank God for BuzzFlash.
Subject: Al Gore
...is not a mensch. He is a Corporate whore who helped bring the Democratic Party to its knees and ran one of the worst campaigns in history. Did you forget the sick smile on Al's face when the Black Caucus Reps came to the Senate and asked for an investigation into the 2000 Vote? Not one Democrat got off their knees to sponsor the resolution. Will they ever?
Subject: Rita has been re-named "George Jr."
This is considered a man-made disaster caused primarily by climate change heating up of the Gulf waters, aided by diverting funds from the levee maintenance, unregulated oil company, casino and motel developments draining sponge wetlands, failure to maintain barrier islands etc.

Subject: Roberts votes
Well, I have now officially given up hope on the Democrats in Congress. Patrick Leahy's idiotic statements about supporting John Roberts but how he hopes he won't be like Scalia and Thomas finished me off completely. The most difficult thing about living in ever more evil BushWorld is that there is NO opposition party. It would be bad enough if we were fighting them tooth and nail but the very few in Congress that realize what dirty fighters and liars the Bush/Rove/Cheney triumvirate are, mainly Conyers, Waxman, Boxer and Pelosi, can't counteract the idiocy of the other weaklings in their party.
John Roberts is a misogynistic neocon, but even if he were the nicest and most well-qualified person ever to be nominated for the Supreme Court, he should still be voted against by every single Democrat in Congress. Why? Because Bush wants him and the only power the Democrats have right now is to do whatever possible to weaken an already bruised and bloodied 38%-and-dropping Bush. What have the Democrats got to lose? Nothing! They are already reviled by Repos as obstructionists. Play by the rules the Repos use. Give no quarter and make them fight for every inch. If only...
I support replacing every Democrat who voted for CAFTA, the Bankruptcy Bill, Roberts, and whoever Bush nominates for O'Connor's spot. We simply cannot survive with Biden, Lieberman, Leahy and any other Democrat who gives the Repos as much as a spare pencil. If Howard Dean cannot muster some great candidates to run against Repos and Demo incumbents and lavish them with money, phone banks, billboards and massively well coordinated local organizations, then he should be kicked out, too. No more fooling around. Our feckless elected representatives are doing little to stop the headlong rush to disaster.
