Subject: Delusional Blanche DuBois
“Whoever you are, I have always depended on the kindness of strangers” to do what my Georgie doesn’t do. Doing Blanche Dubois in New Orleans isn’t a really great move, especially when your deluded Southern Belle routine won’t do it this time. Well there had better be a lot of good to make up for all the people who were stranded without food or water for 5 days because your husband has to be convinced to watch the news. That includes people all over the place who were also neglected because they can’t afford $2500 dinners. I can believe your husband didn’t read newspapers or watch TV news, but I can’t believe you didn’t. Well, if they don’t behave, you Bushes won’t even allow them in the building.
Blanche, did you expect them to curse you out, it is a wonder they have been allowed to watch or read anything in order to keep them the way you like them, uninformed. They are depending on you for their future because most of them will have to lobby congress to keep any sort of benefits. We are aware that all your audiences are screened so they probably had to promise to be good. You haven’t spoken to a completely random audience in 5 years. Pardon us if we don’t trust you?
The Heritage Foundation will gobble this up because they will continue letting you guys do anything you feel like. We all started donating and we all sent e-mails, millions of them, and made phone calls, millions of them, which is the only reason your husband did anything. It was because even his friends were begging for him to pay attention, just this once.
I don’t know about others, but this doesn’t wash for me because I was watching all the bad, while you were out raising money and deciding whether or not to watch the news. I don’t care what you say, this kind stranger, doesn’t plan to be accepting or forgiving.
If you actually knew what was happening and didn’t grab him by neck, shake him and say, George, you have to do something, now, you failed this country. If you didn’t keep up with the news when you knew he wouldn’t then you failed all of us.
First Lady Becomes President's Defender (Associated Press)
I see clearly all of the rampant, blatant corruption in our revered institutions, and it makes me sick. Anyone who isn't outraged quite simply lacks compassion and moral values and has no defense.
This corrupt administration has bullied, bought and bribed its way to a state of total lack of accountability. The corrupt mainstream U.S. corporate-owned media has enabled and protected the liars and crooks with a degree of loyalty which it owes solely to the public interest. Without media complicity, this administration would have been out of business long ago. This is happening because, being corporate-owned, it is run by like-minded, corrupt money grubbers with no honorable vision or sense of duty to the public interest, only a willingness to prostitute for tax cuts and de-regulation, act as a conduit for Bush administration propaganda and influence public opinion in a way which keeps the public "dumbed down" and in the dark. Nothing else matters to the corporate-owned media except profit. They're cut from the same cloth as all of the corrupt, self-serving republican politicians currently squatting in the White House and Congress. And just to be fair, it would also not be possible if the democratic party had any guts left.
Large corporations run by Bush-supporting, republican cronies are looting our national treasury so fast, that they're openly expressing concern about what to do with their unprecedented cash windfall. They're literally drowning in cash.
The sober, justified cynicism which has become a part of my attitude is an unwelcome burden of which I'd really like to rid myself, but I refuse to live in a state of denial or convenient moral relativism as do all of the Bush supporters and apologists.
As an honest, decent and compassionate person, I see, every day, example after example of behavior perpetrated by this so-called "Christian" President and cheered on by his so-called "Christian" supporters and apologists, which reaffirms my observation, made long ago as a child, that most of the people who wear their religion on their sleeves and go around thumping their Bibles are as phony and hypocritical as they come. They live in private what they condemn in public. They only put on the cloak of "Christianity" for the moral authority it provides. They only bow down to pray when others are watching. They do no good deed without advertising it. They make a mockery of the values of Jesus Christ.
Jesus taught tolerance. These people are the most intolerant bunch to ever suck air. Jesus taught love and compassion. These people know nothing but hate and spiteful division. When others suffer, their first thought is how to profit from it. I've often been asked if I go to church. I've never been ashamed or embarrassed to say "no." The utterly callous, spiteful, hate-filled, corrupt, breathtakingly hypocritical and stranger-to-compassion "Christian" right which has its tentacles around our government and now our treasury has over and over again reaffirmed, through actions which betray their deceitfulness and corruption, the wisdom and correctness of my observation made in youth. For this and this alone, I thank them.
I have nothing but respect for true Christians who live by values which Jesus Christ taught. Showing compassion for the helpless and needy, helping the fellow man, living in tolerance of others' beliefs. Being angered at corruption and heartless money-grubbing. In essence, SERVING OTHERS FIRST, SELF LAST.
At this point, with so much evidence and behavior available and on the record of what this administration is all about, anybody who calls themselves a "Christian" and yet still supports, defends and makes excuses for it is as far from being a Christian as one could get. They serve another master and are evil by their own definition. Jesus let them know what they can expect on judgment day. He'll tell them, "I know you not, go away." They shouldn't be so eager to create Armageddon and force the rapture with their attitude of "everyone else be damned, its everyone for himself." If it happens, they shouldn't be too surprised when, standing at the closed gates of Heaven and having been turned away, they see reflecting back at them in the pearly white he who is the enemy of He whom they professed to serve.

Subject: Light and Darkness: America’s Reaction to 9/11
On September 11th, 4:30 am, the commemoration of America’s loss was just hours away in Manhattan as I stared at the lot where the twin towers had once been. Dozens of camera vans waited roadside for the morning coverage. Just to the right I saw the “tribute in light,” two blue shafts beaming stories high into the sky—the representative of the strength and magnificence of the twin towers. As I imagined the old skyline of my city, I realized something. America hasn’t learned a thing in the last fours years.
How have we commemorated those fallen heroes of four years ago? We have used their names and awful tragedy to unleash a war on the world and ourselves. Our president told us we were going to fight for the greater good, but what good has come out of the fight we embarked on?
Today 138,000 US troops illegally occupy Iraq. 1896 Americans have died in vain, for a war against a dictator we once supported, in a fight to destroy weapons of mass destruction he never had. No Al Qaeda connection was found, and while it has infuriated the Middle East and ruined our standing in the eyes of the world, we continue to “stay the course.” Tens of thousands of Iraqi men, women, and children have died due to the blindness and the brutality of our “war on terror.” According to the Red Cross, an estimated 6,000 Iraqis were killed and 16,000 were injured during a three week US led onslaught on Fallujah. Estimates claim over 200,000 residents were displaced due to the siege, while 70 percent of the buildings were destroyed, and the remaining 30 percent were at least damaged. The city was obliterated—or democratized. This type of destruction doesn’t exemplify our compassion, humanity, and value for life above all.
I look back into the sky and think of the squandered opportunities after 9/11. It was a chance for a new start, to unify the world, to fundamentally change our foreign policy, our treatment of the Middle East and the Muslim community. It was our chance to realize that “interests” can’t overtake human life; the safety of our children and their future depended on it.
On 9/11, a tape supposedly released by a half Jewish, half catholic Adam Gadahn referenced intended attacks on Los Angeles and Melbourne Australia. Gadahn was a white American citizen believed to be recruited by Al Qaeda in California. Al Qaeda uses the atrocities of the “war on terror” as a reason to fight. If the war in Iraq, the occupation of Afghanistan, Palestine, and the support of corrupt regimes throughout the Middle East weren’t taking place, recruitment for new blood in Al Qaeda wouldn’t be so easy. Al Qaeda is using the injustices caused by America as a recruitment tool.
In response to “defeat” terrorism, America is causing more injustice. The war on terror cannot be won by the destruction of land, it will only incense the violence and further isolate the 1.2 billion Muslims in the world—it’s a lesson we should have learned after 9/11. Those two beams of light that shine so high in the sky don’t represent the fallen towers; they illuminate our incompetent leadership.

Subject: Bush and his Democratic Complicitors
Bush's head has been handed to the democrats over and over again in the last four and one half years. Why did they allow bush to take the presidency in the first place, Florida, and then again in 2004 in Ohio? Why haven't they literally crippled the republican party? Are dems and repugs of the same ilk today, as it's being bantered about? After being a lifetime democrat I have now decided it's time for a change. My allegiance now rests with Independent candidates. America now has been deserted by the right wingers in demo clothes.
Subject: Re Chertoff Delayed Federal Response, Memo Shows (Knight-Ridder)
As FEMA was downgraded and placed under Homeland Security, it now comes to light that the critical delay in responding to Katrina disaster was Chertoff's fault, not Brown's. It is all likely to be passed over, since Bush has "accepted responsibility." His irresponsibility lies in assigning important government positions to those lacking qualifications (like himself).
Subject: Bush Acknowledges Responsibility
Doesn't it seem perfectly clear that the reason Bush is acknowledging the government's failure to act quickly in the Katrina disaster is because he is about to push for privatization of FEMA? Please can't somebody stop this?

Subject: Mercenary Forces
Is our government, bush etc., developing a private mercenary army (Blackwater) to one day protect the wealthy and control the rest of us?
This would tie right in with the belief that one day the wealthy will assume total control of our nation and will need special forces to provide security for them and their families.
This is definitely something to ponder.

Subject: Frances Newton
Frances Newton was executed today in Texas. Dubious evidence, dubious trial (and you know what a fair trial a black person gets in Texas . . . not!).
Could the timing have been more in-your-face???? Tens of thousands of African Americans displaced to Texas, home of our illustrious "leader," in the wake of Katrina. If one were a tad cynical, one would almost suspect some subliminal message is going on there, coming from the Texas penal system. (Echoes of Babs Bush, perchance.) Naw . . . they couldn't be that cold-hearted, could they? (Rhetorical question, of course . . .)
Subject: Pathological White House
Okay, so George W. claims "responsibility" for not following up properly on the Katrina disaster.
I believe that as much as I believe there were WMDs, as does any American with the common sense of a gnat.
Gene Lyons points out a couple more horrible deeds in his latest column carried out by Mr. Responsible. First, there is a law that requires that employees be paid the "local" wage for doing Federal work that is temporary. George, however, praises the hard work and announces that this law will not be observed during the Katrina clean up. Therefore, he has cut the pay for all the workers who are carrying out horrible jobs trying to clean up the Gulf Coast.
Next, we find that once again, a no bid contract for clean up was awarded to Halliburton, among other businesses. The point is simple: Bush and his ilk, which pretty much includes every Republican in D.C., are simply incapable of just doing what needs to be done without cutting corners, such as pumping the contaminated flood water back into Lake Pontchartrain without adequate testing or using illegal Mexican labor in the most hazardous areas.
Bush and Co. are not capable of undertaking anything without figuring in the profit margin first. All endeavors must be money making schemes of some sort for some fat cat, regardless of the health risk or any other fallout.
Worst of all, Bush cannot do anything without screwing the public somehow. Be it ignoring the refugees, funneling all the billions of relief money through FEMA (it'd be interesting to see just how much of this relief money actually gets to hurricane victims and how much gets laundered) or sending our troops to a pointless war for profit, his citizens are expendable and apparently lower than pond scum.
His Cabinet is just as culpable, as are his supporters at the Capitol. It's a terrible sickness of megalomania and sadism that has infected our political leaders. It's obvious that this disease is contagious, judging from the amount of people who voted for Bush twice.
Subject: Re I'm ashamed I'm embarrassed
Great post.... I wish Bush were ashamed and embarrassed. And the rest of the Reich wingers. Maybe then we would see some truth and some compassion...
When the powers-that-be aim to get rid of an "undesirable" community they either blast the "worthless" ones away like they did in Falluja or they ride piggy-back on a natural disaster such as Hurricane Katrina. What the powers-that-be do post-calamity - absolutely nothing - is what reveals their true intention. After the bombardment of Falluja no food, water or medicines was allowed into the city. In New Orleans not only was there no pre-hurricane evacuation of poor blacks, but post-Katrina, nobody was allowed to get out of the inundated areas and, once again, no food, water and medicines get in. The commander-in-chief's plan of action couldn't be carried out with more precision - "this is a wonderful opportunity for me to get rid of them, so don't anyone do anything that might encourage them to stay or to ever return." No matter that this is genocide - "Genocide? Impossible! They weren't humans to begin with!" Kind of a familiar story, isn't it? Dehumanize a people and then wipe them out.
Who's going to object? A few do-gooders, tree-huggers and perhaps some animal lovers but that's it. . . And after the initial targeted undesirables are eliminated.- On the president's hit list - who's next?

Subject: Cave Man Conservatism
Many religious leaders have said that Katrina was sent from God. Yet, these statements indicate the dire times in which we live. Consider the ramifications of this foolish belief. If it is a sign from God, it justifies military force against citizens to force obedience to God, so there will be no more hurricanes. Homosexuality, abortions, stem cell, and blacks are the reasons for hurricanes. Get rid of these groups, then you get rid of hurricanes. Yet predictably, these leaders ignore the most obvious reasons for hurricanes.
In all their wisdom, they cannot see earth is a mix between sun and moon. Earth has the peace, serenity, and stableness of the moon, but like the sun, earth can be violent, loud, and dynamic. The earth and moon are cold as ice, yet earth and sun not always nice. These leaders assume no hurricanes existed until Adam sinned. Adam is the cause of the violent movement of air. The Canaanites caused God to create deserts.
These people deny the nature of the universe. It is Cave Man Conservatism. It is no different than Native Americans believing dancing could bring rain. Here we are in the year 2005.
These leaders must explain how homosexuals can have an effect on nature, and oil rigs do not. How can dead eggs increase the intensity of weather patterns, and the intentional destruction of ecosystems by businesses cannot? How can bagging shorts create a tsunami, and underwater sonic blasting cannot? These leaders cannot be for real. I am beginning to believe them when they say they are of another world. They need to go back. They are jeopardizing our very existence. What is their problem? They are poised for a global war with an enemy of their own creation.
It is very difficult to determine their mentality. Is it innocence or malice? Is it insanity or strategic? Yet these leaders, without being asked, volunteer to be puppets for God for fifty cents per show. Their only weapon in a moral argument is a quote. These are the people who believed the earth was flat. They wanted to kill scientists. Why?
What is it about the world in which we live they do not want to see? They are destroying earth’s beauty attempting to create a Heaven. When you look into their eyes, it seems wheels of thought are not turning. When you look into their eyes, you can see behind them.
We have no defense against them. Common sense and reason do not work. Should we run, or fight? The answer is obvious. For the sake of humanity, we must not only fight, we must win.

Hope you'll print this. People are upset with both political parties, but the 2006 elections are only a year away and I don't want the Republicans lording over the Senate and Congress any more. I wish your readers would complain to the Dems. and not just Buzz. Believe it or not politicians do pay attention to their mail even if they have people who read these letters for them. Enough people complain, they'll get the word.
Even Georgie finally got the message that we're mad as hell at how FEMA failed the victims of Katrina. Granted it took dropping in the polls, and the media came out and finally told the truth about how bad he was at handling the hurricane victims. But I think our Democratic politicians don't have quite the resources to keep them hidden and protected from us as Bushy boy did. They'll get the messages. They're the only ones we can bank on. A third party will take too long and it's expensive.
Please write a letter or email them. I'm sure Buzz can help with email addresses. Who knows, we may get some positive results. (I hope so.)
