Subject: Fwd: Sheehan - Hypocrites and Liars
Wow!!!! I've archived all the articles I could find regarding this, even more than, remarkable lady (and I use that possibly politically incorrect word with deep respect). I've even forwarded some of them to some of you. BUT, I can't resist forwarding this to you now, and even others who disagree with her.
I'm forwarding with the comment that she is a rare, and one of the few, real heroines/heroes with more courage, guts, drive, ethics and selflessness than all the gutless wonder cowards who vilify her. I specifically refer to those who know, and knew, they were lying to us and bringing down the foundations upon which this country was built. She has more of the traits she displays in her little finger than all of those trying to destroy her all put together.
Enough soap box. She says it better than I can even begin to say. Thank you Cindy Sheehan!!!! And particularly, thank you BuzzFlash and others who are helping the country see a true patriot of this and any other century.
Subject: Good Quotes
The following came in my e-mail this morning. Someone forwarded it to me; then I to you. Do they really not remember these were their positions just a few short years ago? Or is it that they just don’t give a damn and it’s really only a 'just a game'?
Some game. ... right?..............
As I signed onto the internet this morning I saw the following headline on my homepage: The Army is Planning for Four More Years in Iraq."
What they said when President Clinton committed troops to Bosnia.
Has anybody else noticed this trend to now call America or the United States "the Republic"? For example, today I heard, '"when we are doing things for the Republic we need to ..." Oops, no more of our country and no more democracy (i.e. anything resembling the word democrats, only the word resembling republicans). Just listen. Now this change in the "language" is very significant. I think it's just starting. No more US or America, just "The Republic."

Subject: Colin and the Dogs of War
How quickly we forget.
By now, most everyone knows and remembers that Bush and Cheney and Rumsfeld and Rice and the rest of the Bush Administration lied to Congress, the press, and the American people in a massive propaganda campaign to push, prod, and lead us into this ill-conceived, badly-planned, totally preemptive, and, ultimately, horribly destructive and bloody War on Iraq.
But until I read this recent piece in Editor and Publisher, I had almost forgotten that it was the "trustworthy," "moderate," and "reasonable" Colin Powell who gave that key speech to the UN on Feb. 5, 2003, telling us (and the world) that "Leaving Saddam Hussein in possession of weapons of mass destruction for a few more months or years is not an option, not in a post-September 11th world."
That might have been the "tipping point" in selling the War on Iraq to the media and the American people. After all, if "trustworthy" Colin told us that the government had proof and he himself was convinced that Saddam was "in possession of weapons of mass destruction," it had to be true, didn't it?
Little did we (or perhaps even he) know that what he told the world that day was either inaccurate, exaggerated, or outright fraudulent.
Some might even say a steaming pile of lies. But that sounds harsh. After all, Colin Powell is a respected and respectable general and statesman. He must've believed what he was saying at the time. And you know what? Maybe he did.
But that just makes him a dupe of the neocon war cabal in the White House. They were hell-bent on taking this country into a War on Iraq and they weren't about to let little things like verifiable truth get in the way. Even the mighty Colin Powell succumbed to the deadly virus of "fixed" intelligence combined with 9/11 fear fever, all mixed into a toxic stew of lies.
And the press caught it, too, and spread it to the people. And now Iraq and America and the world are paying the price.
Thanks, Colin. Thanks, George. Thanks, Dick, Rummy, Condi. Thanks, Congress (Democrats and Republicans alike).
And a big hand to the media, who helped make all of this happen.
P.S. Please read this outstanding and very cogent article by Greg Mitchell of "Editor and Publisher."

Blessed are the satiated and serene, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are the rich and self-assured, for they shall posses the land.
Blessed are the happy and protected, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst after power, for they shall have their fill.
Blessed are the hardhearted, for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the tellers of falsehoods, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the war makers, for they shall be called the children of God.
Blessed are they that persecute and torture for power sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Subject: Anti-Peace Protest in Crawford
Understandably, the Anti-Peace Camp in Crawford is being organized by the guy making the most money in Crawford from George W. Bush's residence there. The guy who owns the Yellow Rose, and obviously he is upset that the hundreds or thousands who have been coming to Cindy's Pro-Peace rally aren't frequenting his establishment. They are going to the Crawford Peace House. Crawford grocery stores and eateries are getting the money and he isn’t getting any, therefore, being a good business-oriented GOPer, he is marking off a place next to his store with a trailer and a tent.
I do not understand Mr. Qualls even a little bit. His 16 year old wants to join and he supports that and says he will sacrifice all his children if necessary. If necessary? For what reason? Obviously, any little old thing that comes into Bush and the neo-cons' heads is reason enough for his kids to die. Is he suffering from Munchausen by Proxy?
Well, Mr. Qualls, you may be willing to sacrifice your kids in wars the Bush kids, the College Repubs, Young Repubs, the children of congressmen and the children of the Bush Rangers and Pioneers refuse to sign up for if you want, but not mine. And, to Mr. Johnson, I didn't visit your Pro-Bush/Anti-Peace/Sacrifice Your Children for Corporate Profit Store when I was in Crawford and won't be there any other time. If I were the one making the decisions, I would answer your debate offer by saying you bring Dubya to your camp and we'll debate, but we want answers from him. We are tired of him standing off saying, I sympathize, while encouraging others to rip whoever criticizes him or his Iraqi Blood Bath to shreds.
His kids aren't there and he will gladly sacrifice Mr. Qualls' kids for the inheritance of his. If I were Jenna and Barbara, I would be ashamed to take blood money, but the Bushes don't earn money, they sacrifice kids who can't afford college for it.
Of course people are being laid off all over the USA and soon the only way to get any health care for your family will be to put your life on the line for Bush Family Values, and then the Bush will cut whatever they feel like from the benefits promised.
Speak up or they assume you agree!!! ABB
Subject: Let's Hear It from the Troops--Are You Ready To Come Home?
Seems to me that Ms. Sheehan's call to bring 'em on--home, needs a response from those suffering the most, the troops themselves.
Let's somehow get the pressure to come directly from the discontented amid the firestorm. When emails from Iraq, screaming BRING US HOME, start rolling in, there will be no way to stop momentum.
Of course, when the pRESIDENT goes back to DC to really do nothing, and Camp Casey pulls up stakes and goes after him, bigger things will happen nonetheless.

Subject: Utah station acknowledges strange reason it refused to run Cindy's ad
Hello good BuzzFlash people,
I wrote another post I thought you might be interested in.
By now you've probably read about the wankers who have refused to air Cindy Sheehan's ad. What's particularly troubling, though, is the reason they gave. They're not showing it because their community "has contributed more than its fair share of fighting soldiers and suffered significant loss of life in this Iraq war."
Um, isn't that one of the exact reasons Mrs. Sheehan's ad is entirely appropriate for that community? More at http://www.itaffectsyou.org/blog/?p=710.
Subject: Bush Defends Iraq War
George Bush has begun a five-day push to tell Americans why he thinks U.S. troops must continue to fight his war in Iraq. Bush spoke of the soldiers who have died. "Now we must finish the task that our troops have given their lives for and honor their sacrifice by completing their mission," he said. "(1)
However, Nebraska Senator, Chuck Hagel, a leading Republican senator who received two Purple Hearts and other military honors for his service in Vietnam, reiterated his position that the United States needs to develop a strategy to leave Iraq. Hagel said "stay the course" is not a policy. "By any standard, when you analyze 2 1/2 years in Iraq ... we're not winning," he said.(2.)
What's missing from the discussion is just who is it that Bush expects to 'stay the course' in Iraq? The U.S. Military is exhausted. Recruitment numbers are down and the young Republicans who voted for George Bush -- who support his war on Iraq -- are not willing to take part in the war.
"Generation Chickenhawk," has spoken and they're saying, "Hell no! We won't go!" Which begs the question: If young "Bush Loyalists" aren't willing to join the military to fight his war on Iraq -- how can he dare tell U.S. Troops that they must continue to fight?

Thank you for sharing from the Chicago Times "Violence Building in Haiti." I have been waiting for this exposure and wondering why the US educated Haitians are not returning to Haiti to rebuild it.
The following article is recommended reading from the Miami Herald. The situation in Haiti appears to be very similar to Iraq....US backed government, chaos, oppression, abuse, unaccountable deaths. Jean Just should be freed. He is trying to expose the deplorable conditions and lack of government. Herald.com go to Jean-Juste.

Six months ago my young friend, Madonna, from Austin, TX, was a Bush supporter. Then she watched "Fahrenheit 911" after much urging and there was a sea change. She now asks that we all sign a pink slip at www.onemillionreasons.org. This weekend she writes about being at Camp Casey:

Subject: Spy Vs. Spy
Rove behavior: Could it be Bush's Watergate? (editorial/Houston Chronicle)
This article is interesting, coming from the former chairman of the Republican Party of Texas. But far too kind to Rove, former protégé of dirty tricks CREEP Donald Segretti, and present dirty tricks creep. Will Karl rue the day he came all undone meeting W for the first time, gushing over the Bush boy charisma, cowboy boots, Skoal-in-pocket blue jeans. And gollyday: the question comes,
"What happens if it turns out that the Bush administration relied on fabricated information about 'weapons of mass destruction' (WMDs) to persuade Congress and the American people that we had to go to war against Iraq?"
Hey, maybe they've noticed. And who fabricated it? The why is easy. It was needed:
I can't help thinking back to 911, and who was yelling for war with the Iraqis within the first half-hour. And how smooth it all would have gone for them if no one found out -- well, if no one let the world know -- that the hijackers were really Saudis.
It's all coming into focus, isn't it? It really is spy vs. spy.

Thanks for posting the message from Cindy Sheehan; it's past time for us to stop playing nice with the Repugs and their administration. I do disagree with Cindy over one point: She says Casey died "for nothing." I don't believe that is correct. His death got his mother fired up, and she is firing up the peace movement and the impeachment movement and the democracy movement, and every other progressive initiative to save our country and restore our founding ideals. He didn't die for GW and his war, but for us.
Now THAT is a noble cause!!
Subject: U.S. Policies on Surveillance Since 9-11
This letter is addressed to all in the BuzzFlash community, especially to our Canadian friends, most of all our dear friend from British Columbia - Marie France Germain: I have heard that your country, Canada, is seriously considering surveillances similar to those that the U.S. implemented after Sept. 11. It saddens me deeply that our country has set a horrible precedent for the rest of the world and all respect for human dignity and privacy has gone down the toilet so to speak. It all started before that, however, in the l990s and Caroline Kennedy wrote a book about the whole privacy issue. Not enough Americans heeded it and forgot about it totally and nothing, absolutely NOTHING is sacred anymore since then. This is why the world is in total chaos and insanity. It is only when we start treating others with dignity will we be able to stop the insanity. Americans, Canadians, Brits, all people of the world, we must stand together in this.
I read an article this weekend which profoundly disturbed me. It was about Tariq Aziz, who formerly was a [deputy prime minister] of Saddam Hussein. Since his capture they have interrogated him profusely, about 152 times. Why did the U.S. question this man so profusely when he has suffered a heart attack and he does not have a heart condition? This is deplorable behavior and must be put to a stop right now or the insanity will NEVER end. Let us put an end to it right now and start acting sanely.
Thank you for your friendship, Marie. When you have extended your hand in friendship to us at this difficult time you do not know how much I cried that we have such friends as you in Canada and I hope the U.S. will try to do the same in solidarity with you. If you could send us addresses on BuzzFlash where we can write to your legislators perhaps we can help you back.

Subject: Osama Bin Laden ... He Is the Enemy ... Not Saddam Hussein
Now, let's go back to October of 2000. The 2000 election is ONE MONTH away and Bill Clinton will be leaving office as President.
George Bush is the Republican candidate.
The U S S Cole is attacked by terrorists, killing many Americans.
It is believed that it was carried out by Al Qaeda, under the orders of Osama Bin Laden...but there is NO PROOF. Therefore, until proof is obtained, retaliation against him is out of the question. There will be no support from the rest of the free world.
Clinton orders a thorough investigation to get the proof as to who was responsible for the Cole attack.
November 2000...George W. Bush steals the presidency and on January 2001 he is inaugurated as the President of The United States.
Shortly AFTER his inauguration the investigation into the Cole attack is completed and it is determined, BEYOND ANY SHADOW OF DOUBT, that it was ordered, and carried out, by Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda.
The information is given to George W. Bush. HE DOES NOTHING....ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
And, his national security advisor, one CondaSLEEZY Rice says she is not familiar with the name, Bin Laden.
Time passes and BUSH STILL DOES NOTHING TO GO AFTER OSAMA BIN LADEN.
So, here is Bin Laden. He got away with the attack on the Cole. The American President didn't do anything about it..SO WHY NOT HIT THEM WITH THE BIG ONE.... and he does....as Bush doesn't even read the morning terrorist warnings presented to him days, and weeks before 9/11.
So, NEO CON Friends, if you really want to accuse the culprit...then look no further than George W. Bush....he sat on his ass while the grass grew and Bin Laden accepted his invitation...we all know the rest, don't we?
Subject: Bush avoids SF
I noticed you wrote he also avoided Ft. Worth, TX.
No wonder, the Star-Telegram has been the home of Molly Ivins for decades, back to the 70's at least that I know of when I lived there, and the City of Ft. Worth just this past July Fourth had a giant extravaganza with many bands like the Doobie Brothers, but finished with Bob Dylan singing anti-war songs solo and Willie Nelson singing solo and then both together with lots of fireworks and the Ft. Worth Orchestra in the background! A good time was had by all.
Since this was entirely the City's planning for all the people, no wonder little W. won't ever show his face in Ft. Worth. I mean, you should have heard Dylan and Willie together! Long-time Progressive, independent Ft. Worth could probably care less that W. comes there because we are still mad about the re-districting of our good people out of office (like Martin Frost), and our votes to nothing.

Subject: Understanding Muslim Terrorism
I strongly encourage BuzzFlashers who seek greater understanding of Muslim terrorism and the problems with an Islamic state (such as the draft constitution in Iraq will provide for) to read Professor Salim Mansur's "Muslim on Muslim Violence: What Drives It?"
Click on Salim Mansur, then on the title. All the sound bytes and straw men Bush's wordsmiths conjure up won't alter the outcome in Iraq: a dictatorial Islamic state more destructive to the human spirit than even the dictatorship the US-led coalition has just splintered. But that's what the blood spilled on the desert of our courageous troops is buying.

I operate a blog on which I post found photos paired with stories the photos inspired. On weekends I invite my readers to contribute stories to accompany the posted photo. This weekend, to begin my second year of stories, I posted a photo of myself as a child, holding a flag, taken in the 1960's. The stories contributed contained themes of patriotism and nationalism which I think will be of interest to the readers of BuzzFlash.com. The story contributed by Elveshat is of special note. My story is included last, after the reader contributions.

Time magazine's cover story this week was on the 25 most influential Hispanics. It was bad enough to see Mel Martinez and Alberto Gonzales glorified, but there in the article was the cruelest cut of all: Jeb's boy, W's nephew, Prescott Bush, featured with the headline, "The Bush to Watch.
" The last time I saw Prescott surface was the '04 campaign, working for his uncle and pushing the pro-war platform. November third, he seemed to disappear. Well, now I know why. He's a lawyer in Dallas. I knew he wouldn't be in uniform. I sent this letter to Time, and got the auto-reply. Here it is:

Subject: Opposing Busheviks on the Bench
The September Issue of Harpers (now on newsstands, not online), has an excellent article on the Supreme Court problem by U. Chicago Law School professor Cass R. Sunstein.
It ends with this passage:
The article, runs through a set of issues and looks at how the people Roberts is aligned with are pursuing a radical agenda that is NOT part of the original intent of the Constitution.
On Affirmative Action
On Corporate Power
On Presidential Power
The arguments suggested by Sunstein's article point to what we should be using against the Roberts nomination.
We don't need to look like idiots by claiming that Roberts is some kind of social deviant.
Let's stop the continuing advance of this right-wing hegemony by standing up to the lies being used to justify their philosophy.
We can't count on weak Democrat politicians who want to say 'he's just a typical conservative' so Bush should be 'entitled' to put him on the bench.
Let's take him on - and Bush - in a straight ahead confrontation over values.
