Subject: If You Want To Really Start To Effect Changes ...
I know that you are all quite liberal readers here so, I would suggest very strongly that you go to this site:
and see what corporatism (capitalism) and the governments of the "developed" world have been doing to our nations globally. This video was created before your shrub was "elected" by your "Electoral College." I am in tears and outraged that any and all of our "developed" nations are complicit, either by their silence or their involvement in this take over of the world! We must all become involved. Canada is not innocent. That, I have known for a long time, but to so blatantly ignore the injury to other nations will have me writing even more often to my government, who only take a year to get back to me when I express myself to them (sarcasm, if you hadn't detected).
Truly, this video from BBC Four has me angered and I must involve myself in opening the eyes of the public around me to the extent of herding that is done by our nation's governments regarding their general public (us).
subject: What if London bomber is another Timothy McVeigh????
Just a thought. I read that one of the survivors of the double-decker bus explosion became annoyed at some guy messing with something in his backpack just before the explosion. The indication was that the backpack was where the explosion originated. Unfortunately, no description of the guy was given in the article.
Until further details are released from the ongoing investigation, I tend to agree with most people that some radical Islamists were behind the explosions. However, another possibility occurred to me after reading that survivor's account. What if a lone bomber, non-Muslim, a Timothy McVeigh-type, actually set all the bombs off? What if this lone bomber took a bus to a subway station, entered, got on, dropped off his bomb, then exited, went to the surface and rode another bus to another subway station line, to get on again and plant another bomb? Maybe the subway video surveillance cameras will divulge whether this might have happened? This would explain the time differential between the blasts, and why (if this scenario is correct) he was on a surface bus? After depositing three bombs and distancing himself from the underground blast areas by traveling aboveground between targets, he was carrying the final bomb (bombs?) in his backpack on the surface bus and it accidentally (intentionally?) went off.
Just a theory that probably doesn't hold any water. But I remember the first conclusion most people leapt to after the Oklahoma City bombing. And yet, it turned that that bombing was the evil work of Timothy McVeigh and some of his right-wing militia friends. Could we be looking at something similar in Thursday's London bombings? Like I said, just a thought.

Subject: No, Carol, You Are Not Alone
I've come to mistrust everything that comes from the corporate media and the Bush administration.
I couldn't tell the truth from a lie anymore, I have lost so much faith. My cynicism deepened way back in the Florida fraud and has sunk even lower.
After reading the intelligent and informed posters on BuzzFlash, I can not conceive how such a corrupt administration came to power. There is simply no way our electorate would have placed our nation in the hands of this most despicable, corrupt, regime that runs roughshod over all that's good and fair.
Subject: Captain Leslie McCoy / Guantanamo Naval Base
I read yesterday in the USA Today a brief story about the commander of the Naval Base in Guantanamo Cuba being relieved from his command because of misconduct. ( Also AP put this out.)
Is this a " Real Story" or more mis-information from the Bush propaganda machine?
Does anyone want more information on what's really happening with Captain Leslie McCoy?
Top officer relieved of duties at Cuba base (AP/Boston Globe)
As David Corn points out in the posting referenced above, President Bush promised that anyone in his administration who'd broken the law would be "taken care of." Of course, most of us like to think "taken care of" would mean a long stint at Abu Ghraib or Gitmo for Karl Rove, with special 24/7 news cams mounted in his cell so the rest of us could celebrate his experience on a dedicated cable channel. That would seem to be appropriate retribution for incompetence, lying, and betraying our national security for political advantage.
However, I believe this perception will prove to be a wishful misunderstanding of the President's words. If we look back on the performance of Paul Bremer, Tommy Franks, and George Tenet with America's treasure, international stature, credibility, and the lives of its soldiers at risk, we should understand that "taken care of" will probably mean a White House Medal of Freedom ceremony for Karl. If we look back on the performance of Condoleezza Rice and Paul Wolfowitz in the same arena, "taken care of" could also mean a fat promotion.
The idea that "taken care of" should mean punishment, of course, arises from the misconception that the ruling criterion in such situations should be a respect for law, the founding principles of American democracy, and common decency--when in fact, loyalty to Mr. Bush himself is the trump card.
Subject: The nation's treasures
In reading your post on "For sale: A nation's treasures" ... I could not help but remember in the early days of the Iraq war ... the Fox News Producer who stole priceless art ... they found him at his home (Virginia, I think) ... and immediately returned the art to them ... whomever it was who came to his house ... trying all the time to hide from the people filming it. I thought at the time ... Fox is gonna get a way with a lot more than that before this is all over, but, after putting the present leader into the White House ... I would imagine that they still have a lot to do! I read all the things in this country that are obviously Illegal, Immoral, and just plain dangerous, and wonder ... what can we do anyway? I am becoming very skeptical ... more like downright scared ... hands tied ... what really can we do?
Subject: Uh oh. Just read another WP article on a smuggled-through bill
This time it's about denying appeals by prisoners convicted of capital crimes. Never mind the fact that DA's and other prosecutors hoping to ascend to higher office often skew the evidence to increase their own conviction rates. Ignore the fact that many of those convicted -- I won't even mention those put to death so far -- have been exonerated by DNA evidence. Congress (and Dubya) seems to like it quick and simple: convict 'em, kill 'em, and get on with their political careers.
For the record, I totally oppose capital punishment, even though I struggle with cases like Scott Peterson (and the now deceased Timothy McVeigh). I've been eliminated from a jury trial (as a prospective juror, not a defendant) for holding this view. To put it simply, killing someone for killing someone else does NOT make the point that killing is wrong. But knowing that MANY innocent people -- usually the poor, the black, the hispanics, none of whom can afford lawyers who (a) manage to stay awake during the trial; (b) care enough to manage to present a decent defense; and (c) use the defendants as fodder for the "tough on crime" branch of the far right -- is an abortion of justice. We need to stop this bill.
It's hard for me to believe that "due process" has degenerated to the point where it amounts to "kill 'em now -- and rack up some points with the home crowd." I can't remember who -- many centuries ago (and I'm theologically challenged) -- once said of a group defined as heretics, "Kill them all; God will know his own." Congress, on the fast track, seems to be saying the same thing today.

Subject: The Way Out
I was just reading an MSNBC piece on London's Bloody Thursday and a few things came to mind. One expert sees the possibility of "an endless war." Another says "the way out is far from clear."
We're now seeing the start of a split between those who think they can find a way out, and those who want to capitalize on the carnage. The latter are profoundly dangerous because once they get the cash-flow going they won't want an end to terrorism. As it stands today I would put Halliburton and the Carlyle Group in this category. They already have vested interests.
Conversely, the way out involves a re-dedication to truth and justice. The absence of those two commodities are at the root of the grass-roots level of terrorism. I don't have all the answers, but I know damn well they start with a realization that people don't like being ripped off, spit upon by tyrannical governments, being told their religious beliefs are wrong or that their culture is inferior.
A big problem is that the American people have supported all these bad things, perpetrated by their elected officials, ever since they stopped taking their elections seriously. Truth and justice used to go hand-in-hand with the American Way. The American Way has sadly degenerated into lust for money and profits at the expense of all else. It's every man for himself in the minds of the right wing and that's the way they like it. Fundamentally they believe that all men are most definitely NOT created equal, and that's what makes their patriotic hypocrisy so absurd. What's more, a good number of those on the right tout their Christian values incessantly, while their actions go against everything Christ taught, from what I can tell.
No, I say the way out is clear. Unfortunately, I am beginning to think we've slid too far down the slope to make a graceful recovery. As long as the American public refuses to open up their eyes to the truth, things will continue to get worse. The ability to see clearly is now clouded by the handful of media corporations who control the message. An ignorant public cannot be counted on to make sensible decisions grounded in reality.
I'll support this view with a final rhetorical question: How many Americans can even find Iraq on a map of the world?
Subject: Fox News' "ratings"
I'm an airman in the U.S. Air Force stationed at Ellis AFB, NV and probably as liberal as Karl Rove is evil.
I read the article about Fox News' ratings slipping and it makes me smile to see the American public beginning to see the lying and selective reporting that is Faux News.
I wanted to know if these jerks take into account when tallying up their ratings the fact that everywhere I go on base that evil channel is on. If I want to get a haircut on base, I must sit through that garbage while waiting. If I want to eat something from the food court, I must not look up to the approximately twenty tv's, all depicting right-wing propaganda. Shopping at the Base Exchange (like Wal-Mart on base) requires you to catch an eyeful of lies when in line at the register.
I asked my barber why they constantly have their tv's on channel 666 and he simply says because the bosses at corporate want it that way, all day.
There are almost 8,000 military members stationed at Nellis. That is not counting the thousands more that get temporarily deployed there from around the world all year round. Not to mention the thousands of military family members and civilian contractors who all visit the commercial area of base at least once a week.
Now that is just my base, the largest state side. However, ALL bases' shopping is controlled by AAFES (Army Air Force Exchange Service), the same jerks who want all their tv's with big brother's face on it.
It would be hilarious to me if they do count everyone of those as part of their "we're better than everyone else" ratings. Take all those away and they would probably end up with worse ratings than the Girls Gone Wild infomercials.

Subject: This is absolutely appalling beyond words and needs to be stopped ASAP
The rabid right wing is quite unhappy that innocent people have been exonerated by advances in DNA technology, so their reactionary response is not to improve the criminal justice system so innocent people do not wind up on death row. No, instead, their barbaric, morally and intellectually repugnant response is to try to shut off the federal courts to people in the most dire straits imaginable, facing death for something they did not do.
A federal court is often the last avenue of appeal for people who are on the brink of death's door because they were the victim of monumental bad luck, police malfeasance and/or legal incompetence. This absolutely indefensible piece of refuse masquerading as legislation which extremist republicans are pushing in the House and Senate needs to be stopped immediately.
If it passes Congress our courts will then officially have been transformed into toothless rubber stamp bodies, powerless to stop the most egregious miscarriage of justice imaginable. It would then be no exaggeration to say that to be forced to allow the execution of innocent people our court system would then be reduced to the level of that of Nazi Germany, Stalinist Russia or Communist China. That is the plain and ugly truth since our federal courts like the ones in the aforementioned totalitarian regimes would be powerless to stop the government from wrongfully taking life.
This shows once and for all, indisputably, that the right wing in this country is out of control. They are nothing but radical ideological thugs, and they are placing each and every one of us at risk by their unremitting war on this country's basic institutions and commitment to basic principles of decency and humanity.

This was from Matt Cooper's recently turned over e-mail. Matt Cooper is a guy inside the beltway loop, and he didn't know Wilson's wife worked at the agency. The republican argument is that her identity was well known in Washington social circles. This e-mail suggests otherwise.

Like Hillary Clinton I'm a former Goldwater conservative. With that confession out of the way, I'd like to ask just who George W Bush is.
I've been stupefied by the actions of this administration. I honestly can not think of one single thing they've done to help this country or the world in general.
The only conclusion I've been able to come to that makes any sense at all to me is that he's the real life incarnation of the "Manchurian Candidate."

Sirius satellite radio has dropped Air America (Ch. 144) today. Sirius was supposed to be the more progressive of the 2 sat radio systems. Wrong! I was fooled into buying Sirius because they had 2 "progressive" stations. It was obvious that Sirius Left (Ch. 143) was Republican Lite with Ed Schultz, The Young Turks, and Alan Combs. With AAR out of the lineup it is now obvious what the politics are at Sirius. I guess Mel Karmazen (ex Viacom chief) thinks that Howard Stern and Martha Stewart will save the entire network in January. I guess when Sirius acquired exclusive rights to broadcast NASCAR it should have been a clue. These people are banking on our ignorance and apathy. Spread the word.

I have just been watching Bush's speech. Now, I'm no rocket scientist ... but, if we are doing such a good job on this war on terror, why have terrorist attacks increased instead of decreased? I would also like to know if we told the Iraqi people, when we said we wanted to liberate them, if we also told them our aim was to bring the terrorists to their country so we would not have to fight them here at home? It doesn't seem like such a great deal for them.
President Discusses War on Terror at FBI Academy (White House)
I wish BuzzFlash would reprint articles from the first week of April, 2001, when a U.S. plane collided with a Chinese fighter plane, that forced our plane to land on an island owned by China. Bush then had to make a public apology to China before getting our plane back, which was stripped of all electronic gear and sent back to us in crates. Bush was not very macho back then. And how about the U.S. sub that rammed a Japanese fishing boat causing the death of X amount of fishermen, then we find out later that Bush donors were aboard our submarine?

Subject: "If It Will Save It; Save The Plan!"
If I had to come up with a quote that well described the Bush/Rove/Republican-ruled government of organized hypocrisy, I would go to another Republican, Richard Nixon, in a taped comment about Watergate. Nixon’s statement could also be used to describe the denial of scandal after scandal and the stonewalled investigations that NEVER blame this Bush Administration and the lies that led us to the Iraq War!! Nixon said, "I don’t give a s**t what happens, I want you all to stonewall it, let them plead the Fifth Amendment, cover up or anything else, if it will save it; save the plan!"
When it comes to the plans of fixing policy to go to war with Iraq, or Downing Street Memo-gate, or Plame-gate, it’s the same method and attitude that would have impeached Nixon had he not resigned! Why is this important? After the London bombings, Mr. Bush, who was partly responsible for it happening, is trying to turn it around and use it to his advantage! We are now being treated to a “RERUN” by Bush and the media of the same devious rhetoric that started before the Bush election and has continued ever since.
It is our duty to keep the scandals and corruption of George W. Bush and his cohorts uppermost in the minds of Americans to defeat them in 2006 and 2008! If we don’t, we will once again see more lives sacrificed, more invasions of sovereign nations, our deficits increased, our civil liberties imposed on, our world respect totally gone, and our environment ruined for future generations to come! We will continue to see 6 billion dollars a month go into an unjustified war, instead of health-care or services for American citizens!
George Bush’s idea of transforming the Middle East into his image of what their country should look like, has failed, as terrorism is on the rise everywhere. It’s no longer “fighting them there prevents fighting them here,” because “here” is everywhere! George W. Bush is the still-unfound Osama’s greatest recruiting tool. Every time Mr. Bush opens his mouth, Osama rejoices! In Iraq many have been killed by suicide attacks but the media hardly mentions it!

Subject: What To Do ... What To Do?
Hello Buzzers. I just finished reading Marie-France Germain's letter asking why Americans are such a fearful people, and I automatically felt an overwhelming sadness. When I saw how Sensenbrenner shut down the first ever hearing on abuses of the Patriot Act, I couldn't help the shudder down my spine. Marie lives in a beautiful country with terrific people. I can understand why she wouldn't understand how Americans can be so fearful at this time. Marie, I suspect the only way you could really understand American's fear is if you actually lived here for six months to a year, watching as frightening changes take place on our political and economic landscape at a dizzying pace. Watch as hundreds of small farmers are effectively put out of business. Hundreds of thousands of us have lost our jobs to overseas labor. There is NO healthcare to forty-two million of us and counting. Homelessness is skyrocketing. Los Angeles just counted over ninety thousand homeless people in and around the city. That's just one city.
Many of the older generation who still remember are comparing the Bush Administration's actions to Hitler's rise to power. PNAC. Patriot Act one and two, Homeland Security. National ID cards. Total Information Awareness Act. Secret Police by power hungry thugs who insist on stealing elections, fixing the voting machines, and completely taking OVER all mainstream media outlets with lies and propaganda, all the while telling us it is for our OWN SAFETY.
Marie, I have to ask you ,if YOU had Bush for president strutting around GUTTING all social and domestic programs to build his empire and making the rest of the world furious (including the ENTIRE Arab nation) with your country, wouldn't you be just a little bit scared? If I could afford to move to Australia, New Zealand, or even your beautiful country, believe me that's where I'd be headed. That is, if they would even accept me at this point.
TO my fellow Americans, and all other human beings caught up in this catastrophic nightmare from around the globe, for those of you who live through this time in history, my hat goes off to you, for those of you who WON'T make it through this time in history, my HEART goes out to you. In any case, my deepest heartfelt thoughts and prayers are WITH YOU ALL!!!

Subject: Karl Rove And Need To Know
Well, well, now we know that Karl Rove, the Bush's alleged "brain" and Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy was the leaker.
I was an Order of Battle/intelligence analyst in Military Intelligence in the US Army. At that time, any service member who needed a security clearance had to pass a rigorous background investigation. Once that clearance was granted, the "need to know" contingency went into effect.
I still don't understand why a political strategist, posing as a policy advisor, would require access or have a "need to know" the names of CIA agents.
At any rate, Rove needs to be brought up on charges of treason -- the external and internal repercussions of his betrayal will haunt our intelligence gathering capabilities for years.
