Subject: Poll Says Americans Are in a Funk
Well, I'm one American who has been in a funk since Bush stole the White House. I smelled evil when he was set there by the court. Nothing happened by accident, it was all planned. It continues to amaze me what people see in Bush. I guess it comes down to support bush or support America. THE THINKERS SUPPORT AMERICA!

Subject: Downing Street Memos
I know there's at least two or three new outrages emanating from the Bush gang and the Republican Congress every day, but the Dems seem totally unable to focus on anything for any length of time. No wonder they are in such a sorry state. Today we find Sen. Durbin apologizing (wimping out) for telling the truth about Guantanamo, this after many so-called moderate Dems condemned him. Pathetic!
The recent release of the so-called Downing St. Memos gives the Dems concrete proof Bush & Co. lied about the war, a lie which is not about a private consensual sexual affair, but a matter of life and death. Will they let this thing drop like Bush and the corporate media want them to?
If they do they don't deserve our support. 1700 American deaths, thousands injured both physically and mentally, families devastated, economic ruination, etc. etc. etc, -- all based on lies.
My beloved Democratic party better start focusing on important things or face oblivion. Don't count on the media to investigate these matters. They're not going to!!! THERE IS NOTHING MORE IMPORTANT THAN THIS. NOTHING!!! DON'T LET THEM DISTRACT YOU.

Subject: NBC News Formula
NBC news has perfected the "Fair and Balanced" approach to informing the public. The regular news segment is devoted to human interest stories that will not upset or offend anyone and are therefore totally meaningless. The important issues are "illuminated" by posting letters from viewers. An even number on each side of the issue. The anchors make no comments on these real issues so that they introduce no factual information to the discussion and therefore can't be accused of "bias."
All this week the major news story was the "runaway bride" while it was left to audience letters to address the destruction of Public Broadcasting by the Bush administration. Of course, there was no reporting of the demonstration on Tuesday in DC supporting PBS because that might show bias.
I predict next week they will let viewers decide if the White Race really is superior to all others and if the Holocaust really happened. They will, of course, post an equal number of letters on each side of these issues. Maybe they will also let viewers decide if the universe is expanding or not.
Subject: Wings of Justice (or Justus?) award
I wholeheartedly disagree with your choice of Howard Dean for this award. There is no honor in the man. He is no different than the rest of the bugs that infest the ruling clique. Out with them all!!!!
Subject: Petition To Have Sen. Feinstein Resign
I’m sorry that it’s come to this, Senator. However, your comments against one of our own, Howard Dean, has compelled us respond to you. You dare criticize a fellow democratic leader because he’s criticizing people who are trying to destroy our democracy?
Yet, on the other hand, Senator, where were your “comments/criticisms” when the Repuglicans (they are truly repugnant) illicitly impeached a Democratic president, or when they smeared the subsequent Democratic nominee as a serial liar, or when they stole the presidency, or when they looted the Treasury, or when they deceived America into war, or when they stole the presidency again? Nobody knows, Senator, because you were not heard. You did, however, caution the Congressional Black Caucus that challenging the stolen elections was divisive. Nice going. You’ve just constantly been voting your economic interests and corporate interests, and have simply disregarded the common man.
It’s time to give it a rest, Senator. Please, in the name of democracy, resign. Announce your plans to retire, so we may have time to find a real patriot and representative of the people. We need champions of democracy who’ll stand up to this fascist evil empire that is permeating our country and even the world! They’re trying to take away our democracy, Senator, and you’re not doing anything about it. Finally, we have Howard Dean fearlessly doing something about it, and you denigrate him. Shame on you.
Worst of all, people are dying, being maimed, and families being torn apart all because of a President who lied to us about war, let alone our declining economy, lost liberties, jobs going overseas, corporate-interest media, etc. Yet, by being silent, let alone your voting record, you are complicit. You won’t even take a stand to call our lying President a “liar!” Pathetic.
You and your family are set for life. So, please, leave now. Be the first complicit, spineless “Democratic” Senator to do the right thing. Obviously, you’re in to them too deep to change. We voted for you, Senator. We thought you were one of us. You’re not. But, now, you can make partial amends for the blood already on your hands, before it’s too late for all of us.

Subject: Look Back to August 2003, Max Boot on Neocon Power
I occasionally like to look back to see what people of all stripes were saying/writing.
Interesting to me, and perhaps a few other BuzzFlash readers, is the following, excerpted from the Christian Science Monitor at http://www.csmonitor.com/specials/neocon/boot.html. This is part of the Christian Science Monitor's Special on “Empire Builders, Neoconservatives and their blueprint for US Power,” updated August 2003. Max Boot was listed as senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations; still is, as far as I know, plus he writes opinion columns periodically, among other endeavors.
Yikes! Another revision of American History! This Cheney guy he mentions was a signer of the Project for the New American Century’s (PNAC) original “Statement of Principles,” dated June 3, 1997, and still available at http://www.newamericancentury.org/statementofprinciples.htm.
Yup, I believe Max Boot … I believe Dick Cheney must have signed the document without reading it, and later, as a "doubter," had to be convinced by 9/11 that he really believed what he had earlier signed for!
Yup, I also believe the many other “neocons” (what the heck is a “neocon,” really?) who signed that PNAC Statement of Principles and then became part of the shrub/sock-puppet’s regime were also doubters who had to be “brought …. around to the neocon point of view."
And yup, I also believe everything the “leaders” of our present administration in Washington say, even though what they say is the exact opposite of what they do, and what they do is ruining this Great Country.
Some of the signers of the PNAC Statement of Principles who joined the shrub’s administration:
Elliott Abrams, Deputy National Security Adviser

Subject: More Killings in Iraq
Looking at your headlines and hearing on C-SPAN this morning Karl Rove's remark last evening that liberals are unpatriotic. Who the hell does he think is dying for America in Iraq? A bunch of conservatives? NOT! He owes a BIGTIME APOLOGY TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE! ... It's time to quit beating around the "BUSH." It's the PARTY OR DEMOCRACY. PUT THAT ON YOUR BUMPER STICKER!
Subject: 2006 Iraq Pullout and Election
Notice that there is a discussion that the earliest troops could start coming home is 2006. The administration will time the discussions about, and the start of minimal troop reductions, just in time to influence the 2006 elections. The forces will pull back into protective enclaves and stop all patrols so that the casualty count will drop. They will find all sorts of ways to control the news by manufacturing stories that will overshadow the continued suicide bombings and dismal capabilities of the Iraqi forces. The president will claim victory, and claim that his policies have been exonerated. He will then stress the need to keep Republicans in control of congress to help him continue to deliver on his mandate. This along with their "Democrats, the party of NO!" sound bite will be the main propaganda used. We will all be chocking on the smoke screen. Please start some preemptive dialogue so the American public will see through their game. Democrats ARE the party of "No"! NO MORE BUSHSHIT!!!
Subject: The Social Security Death Dance: How Stupid Do They Think We ARE???
All the MSM publications seem to have joined in the chant (orchestrated from you know where): "The Democrats are obstructionists. They're not offering any POSITIVE proposals." Well, let me respond, if I may.
First, if the Democrats DID offer "positive" proposals, the Busheviks would (a) --if they deemed them workable -- promptly appropriate them and discredit the Democrats' input; (b) if they found what they considered flaws equal to their own plans, use these -- with plenty of MSM publicity -- to discredit/smear Democrats for proposing them; or (c) if either (a) or (b) arose, turn viciously on any Democrats who supported or proposed either, simply to ensure total domination of both houses (plus the judicial branch, but that's another subject).
Although I, along with many Buzz readers/writers, deplore the spinelessness of Democrats (with a few very notable exceptions) through this deplorable now-going-on-5-years administration, I can also see their point: the Busheviks have made it clear: "Stick your neck out and we'll chop it off, one way or another." The spectacle of Dick Durbin in tears, apologizing for telling the truth, shocked and awed me even more than the shameless antics of Tom DeLay, Dick Cheney, et al.
Back to my original point: for the Democrats to participate in a farce and a rigged game which they're bound to lose strikes me as pointless. Of course, I also believe that -- if the current situation continues (and, say, "we" decide to invade Iran or North Korea, as the neocons suggest) -- ALL domestic spending, including Social Security -- would have to be suspended. The draft (with exemptions, of course, for the Children of the Rich) would be reinstated. Any resemblance to the America designed and intended by our founding fathers would be strictly coincidental.

Subject: "Cheney and Bolton, sittin' in a tree ..."
So today Bush twisted Frist's arm until he backtracked on Bolton and is pushing the nomination full-bore once more. The article I read said that it is Cheney who has made Bolton's nomination his special project.
And once again I wondered about the possibility of Bolton being the Plame leaker. All this pressure to force through his nomination, when even some Republicans in Congress are opposed and the nomination is clearly becoming a political liability and dangerous. Why not drop it?? Maybe because it was promised to him in exchange for outing Plame. And maybe because Bolton, being the nice guy he is, has made it clear that if the promise isn't kept, he might tell what he knows.
Just speculation, of course, but ...

during our break this morning we saw on the news that bush wants to cut 100 million dollars from pbs. all of our kids grew up on pbs. we were just wondering, we spend one and a half Billion dollars a week in iraq. so what would that 100 million break down to, 2 hours of war in iraq? maybe we could just cut the war short by a few hour and save pbs.

Subject: America became more fascist today
The Supreme Court has again expanded the power of the government at the expense of The People, ruling that city governments can force home owners out of their homes so that the city can give their land to corporations for private development to generate tax revenue. We are no longer a country where the interests of The People outweigh the interests of corporations and of the government serving itself. Now Wal-Mart can take your home if they bribe the right city council members to do so. Another sad day for America as it slides into becoming fascist state. I want to burn a flag while I still can.
Subject: Need to change the Headlines
Karl Rove's attack on the Dems (want soldiers to die, helping the enemy, etc., etc.) should NOT be a sideshow. Get it in the headlines and raise mortal hell.

Subject: Burning the Flag Is a Symbol! Of What?
I would like to point out that there is more to burning a flag than a lack of patriotism or a symbol of dissent. A nation that can allow its flag to be burned by its citizens is a nation that can self reflect. Burning a flag is actually in most cases an act of rejecting the image that your nation has cast forth. It is this very self-reflection that insures change and improvement or progress. When you fail to self reflect, you have only the incorrect causes of your condition to focus on. This leads to war and oppression without end. So you could easily say that burning the flag is a symbol of health and vitality. That is, if you are a liberal, of course. If you were a conservative, you would find it very difficult to say.
Subject: Conviction Must Yield to Fact!
George W. Bush, Donald Rumsfeld, and the rest of their cohorts must support their convictions with fact, something they have not been able to do. Deception can no longer cover their lack of skill in dealing with the Iraq War and the insurgency. To stick in a rut of our own making and call it “progress” or to “fix facts” once again to deceive the American public is grounds for impeachment!
George Bush and his cohorts are not being truthful. One would think, if they had nothing to fear, an independent investigation would be in order. We already have many examples of the White House pressuring government agencies to edit the truth! Why would the White House reject the proposed creation of an “independent commission” to investigate abuses of detainees?

Why are UN human rights investigators being stalled on their request to visit U.S. prisons?
UN investigators say U.S. stalling prison visits (Reuters/Yahoo)
The Bush military talking heads say we are winning. The violence is being downplayed, when the obvious truth is, violence is on the rise. Just in the last 12 hours, 40 people lost their lives in Iraq in a coordinated effort by the insurgency, who is not in their “last throes!”
Bush has made Iraq a magnet for terrorism that didn’t exist before the invasion. A CIA classified report confirms Iraq is more of an international threat then ever before. In fact, better trained Islamic terrorists are being produced now in Iraq then in Afghanistan!
Iraq is now a terrorist training ground, CIA says (Reuters/Yahoo)
Is the Department of Defense misleading the public about the death toll in Iraq? What do they include in this count, what is not included? The Huffington Post asks if this is the ultimate deception? Jim Lampley‘s article and TBRNews.org give us reason to question the veracity of the totals coming from the DOD!
The Ultimate Deception? (The Huffington Post)
In the politics of Iraq, every person should consider questioning the continuous conviction of the Bush Administration that we are making progress, and keep the pressure on them to reveal the facts truthfully.
Subject: Flag Desecration
What is flag desecration? It is not following the protocol on honoring the flag. It is leaving the flag out overnight, in all weathers. It is not putting up a new flag when the old one is dirty and tattered and worn. It is leaving the flag on those sticks stuck onto car windows until the flag is only scraps of cloth clinging desperately to that stick. It is using the flag and/or its design as a piece of clothing. It is putting the flag on a wall or a window with the blue field on the wrong side. And flags are flown over garbage dumps and falling down buildings and junkyards. Sometimes these flags are in better shape than the ones flown over hospitals and police stations and play-yards.
The flag is a piece of cloth, a symbol. It is not America or the First Amendment. It is a symbol of these two things. When you want to get rid of such a symbol, the proper protocol is to burn it. Our symbols - flags - are now manufactured mostly in China. They are ubiquitous. They are reasonably priced. They can be replaced. Our flag as symbol will rise from ashes as does the ancient phoenix. The First Amendment will not rise after it is burned. We will hear only silence. We will have lost the most precious freedom we have.
Our flag will be there - symbolizing silence. Who will die for that?
