The BuzzFlash Mailbag The opinions expressed in the Mailbag are not necessarily those of BuzzFlash. Read the BuzzFlash FAQ for info on submitting to the Mailbag. Subject: Call to Action! Dear BuzzFlash readers from the DC/MD/VA area, We're all aware that the country is going in a disturbing direction. To bring about the changes that will improve our country in the decades ahead, we must secure blue victories nationwide, and especially in our own backyard. There are only two states with statewide elections this year - New Jersey and Virginia. Please join NEXT PAC Virginia this Saturday for our kick-off canvass in Vienna, Fairfax Co., Virginia. The outcome of the governor's race has direct implications for the upcoming Congressional and Presidential elections. In 2004, Kerry won Fairfax County--the first time a Democratic candidate for president has won the county in the last 40 years. We have a chance to continue the blue trend, but we will have to work for it. Date: Saturday, June 25th at 2 PM Place: In front of the Starbucks at 13th and Pennsylvania Ave, NW (M:Metro Center) Registration: Email next_va@yahoo.com ASAP to reserve a spot Cost: Free! We'll meet up at 2 PM and travel down to Vienna together to join up with some local volunteers. We'll be going door-to-door talking to people about the upcoming elections and what they think about the candidates for governor and delegate. After the canvass, we'll stay in Vienna for a BBQ to kick-off our 2005 Virginia campaign! We'll be back in DC by 8 PM, but feel free to head back earlier if you have evening plans. Clare Subject: The Congress and Ignorance Dear B-F, I am beginning to hear calls from Congressmen and Senators for withdrawal plans from Iraq. It appears to me that these good people should educate themselves in the ways of the belligerent buffoon and his fascist regime. There is a document called The Project for the New American Century. In this American Mein Kampf you will be able to follow the policies and procedures for world dominance. King George has followed the guidelines of PNAC religiously. You will see that after we have installed a puppet Iraqi government we will build 17 permanent military bases. We will build the largest US Embassy in the world - staffed by 5000! Now after reading this is it not reasonable to believe that the US has absolutely no intention of withdrawing from Iraq. In fact the intention is to extend our grip by force on surrounding countries - Syria, Iran etc. Eventually of course we will face our Stalingrad! But by that time King George will have ensconced himself at Camp David-The Buffoon's lair, surrounded by his faithful coterie of fascists while the country is being destroyed except for the very rich. For God's sake wake up, Congress, and impeach, try and jail the criminals running this country. A. Leslie Palmer Subject: Bush and the War on Terror Mr. Bush claims we are in Iraq because the terrorists/extremists have made it the central front on terror. He is terribly misguided - HE MADE IRAQ THE CENTRAL FRONT- NOT THE TERRORISTS! That is the truth-AMEN! I have a nephew who enlisted in the military this winter. I tried to dissuade him knowing this is an unjust war and tried not be unpatriotic, I support our troops by praying for our soldiers. However, if one cell in his body is damaged, one drop of blood shed, if he must go to Iraq or Afghanistan next year, I will personally hold Mr. Bush responsible, my nephew's blood will be on his hands, and he will stand in judgment before the Lord God he professes to follow. A BuzzFlash Reader Subject: Is There No Depth That They Won't Plunge To? In a recent wrap up story about Terri Schiavo; "The report prompted Gov. Jeb Bush to ask the Pinellas County chief prosecutor to investigate what happened the night Terri Schiavo collapsed. The governor cited an alleged gap in time between when her husband found her unconscious and called 911. The husband says there was no delay in making the call." Every doctor involved has stated that there is no link, no sign of abuse from the husband, the repugs involved in this have been proven wrong, her brain had half the normal weight of a human brain. But rather than move forward and let it die or so to speak, Jeb has to fire one last shot at a completely innocent man, as if ANY OF THIS mattered to the Republican party one iota. Grudge holding ba**ards is what they are. Every time I'm shocked, I'm shocked that I'm shocked. You would think that I could burn out, but they keep finding new ways of getting the job done. How they are able to be such scumbags and still walk around in public, it's not like a human being. It's like something else altogether. Stephen Ericson Subject: PBS or Pravda? It is a sign of the times that Pravda is now a better source for stories about US policy than The New York Times or the Washington Post. Read 'em and weep ... Michael J Fowler Subject: Bush Can Be Removed ... Legally ... Better Than Impeachment How Bush can be removed ... LEGALLY There is a lot of talk of impeaching George W. Bush. This, of course, will never occur with the makeup of the congress as it now stands. That, of course, COULD change in 2006. But, in the mean time, I believe another course of action could, and should be taken. I believe that George W. Bush has a severe mental malfunction. I am not a doctor, nor a psychiatrist, but I believe that there is, without a doubt in my mind, a serious mental malfunction and that it is causing his train of thought to be messed up and that is why our country is in such grave danger, and has lost respect all around the world, and is teetering on the brink of destruction ... Therefore, it might be time for congress to begin investigating the use of Article 25 of the U. S. Constitution and have George W. Bush removed as president. Yes, I know that means that Cheney would become President, but he is, already, pulling Bush's strings, so he may as well do it out in public ... and then, he will enrage people so much that the neocons will be finished, forever. I think it's time to start a campaign to invoke Article 25 and remove George W. Bush from office. It's an office he never won, fair and square, anyway. And, he probably wants to take his crayolas somewhere else anyway. It's far too crowded in the desk of the oval office, what with all those REAL documents he needs to read but never does. INVOKE ARTICLE 25, REMOVE GEORGE W. BUSH Mike Allen Subject: Arkansas Might Go Demo in 2008 So, the republicans are making an all out effort to capture the office of Secretary of State which is currently held by a democrat. They were afraid they might lose Arkansas in the 2004 vote, and it scared the holy s**t out of them. Secretaries of State are most crucial to the outcome of an election as we found out in Florida and Ohio. Their influence is all empowering and they can shape the rule of the vote to suit their party. Here we go again. Lawton Watson Subject: Putting the MSM's Feet to the Fire I didn't see the story on BuzzFlash (perhaps I missed it), but I read where Jerry Falwell has called for a boycott of Kraft products over their support of the Gay Games. I've also recently read that extremist pressure groups have succeeded in getting over two dozen sponsors to pull their ads from such shows as "Oueer Eye" and "Will and Grace." Well, I say (and I've been saying it for over a year to any and all) if it works for the wingnuts, it can work for those of us who still believe an informed public is essential to democracy. There are a lot more of us than there are of them, and we who deplore the current state of mainstream news have it in our power to do something about it. So write to the newspapers, the networks and the sponsors that support them, and tell them all that you won't use their products or services until they start reporting honest and complete news (unfiltered by the White House). We can do this! There's so much moaning about the mainstream media; real change can be accomplished if we hit 'em where it hurts: their bottom line! Steven A. Wells Subject: Winn-Dixie Apparently helping the GOP didn't help Winn-Dixie. Their PAC, which apparently didn't notice that bankruptcy was in the air, gave $40+K bucks in contributions last year. Only $2,500 went to a total of three dems ... the rest to the Grand old poddy. But, this was down from the nearly $500,000 the chain had in PAC coffers two years ago ... may be some of those laid off workers would want to ask what they got for their money. http://www.buyblue.org/detail.php?corpId=187 Richard L. Fricker Subject: Re: 9000 Troops: Buffalo Soldiers? As I've noted earlier, TASS raised the question of unreported casualties months ago. When I lived in South Korea last year, a large proportion of the soldiers were foreign nationals from Nigeria, the Philippines, etc. ... They told me that if they serve for a certain period, they become eligible for the fast-track for citizenship. Because these citizen hopefuls don't show up in the obituaries of American newspapers, wouldn't you guess that these young men and women are assigned to hazardous duty in Iraq? My question is this: Are these modern-day "buffalo soldiers" counted by the DOD? I'd be happy to look into this with a little research assistance ... Steve Lindstrom Subject: Howard Dean I don't see how you guys can praise Howard Dean as being so wonderful for us. Sure, he's the best thing the Dems have going right now, but after all that stupid crap he said about anti-Semitism, that's not saying much. Mr. Dean needs to get a clue as to the difference between anti-Semitism and opposition to Israeli policies. Using his position as DNC chairman to shut down any discussion of this is just plain wrong, and that needs to be addressed. Roxanne [BuzzFlash Note: We don't have the fliers which Dean disavowed; the AP story describes them as "critical of Israel." Dean Condemns 'Anti-Semitic Literature' (AP/Wasington Post).] Subject: Wings of Justice Thanks so much for giving this honor to Howard Dean. I am so sick of hearing democrats apologize for speaking the truth ... You never hear that from the republicans. Has BIll Frist done anything about his video diagnosis of Terri Schiavo? No ... just tell another lie. Durbin is apologizing for telling the truth about Guantanamo ... we can do nothing but kiss their feet! It is shameful ... Thanks to you and Howard Dean for standing up! Shirley.........St. Louis Subject: "Flamboyant Labels on Empty Luggage!" -- Bevin An old proverb tells us you can’t step into the same river twice, but George W. Bush has done it, and listening to him this morning, he’s trying for a third time. Every day he is still out there campaigning and defending the indefensible! The Iraq War and Social Security, is only right if it is his way! We have to make sure this time when he steps into the river he will have a tidal wave of dissent ready to meet him. This time hopefully he will drown in his own rhetoric, because if ever a nation was deceived by an Administration, it is this Bush Administration! Every day more truth is revealed, more investigations stonewalled, until one would think with all this secrecy, lies and hypocrisy, that George W. Bush and his cohorts should be removed from office by unanimous consent. Now the Republicans, though guilty many times of the same deed and words themselves, emphasize remarks made by Durbin or Dean and call Democrats obstructionists! {Their newly-minted phrase to be repeated by all Repugs ...}This is pure distraction used by Republicans and the media to get American minds off the Iraq War failure, the death and destruction and rising violence in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Polls show Bush policies have been tanking fast, so expect to see George and the Republicans all hitting the “campaign trail” once again! We should know their spiel by now, plus their obvious methods of distortion and distraction. Howard Dean is right, this time we should NOT WAIT TO FIGHT BACK! Every remark, every scandal, every lie and the Downing Street Memo and UK Eyes only Briefs should be exposed! Every dishonest or misleading statement should be answered immediately! David can beat Goliath and his tinhorn politicians! Only strong candidates need apply for President or Congress, representatives who will represent the people and who are not afraid to fight back! Weak messages tempered by moderation is not the answer in opposing those who hit below every belt they find opposing them! We did that last time and we failed! Who can still believe we can meet the opposition half-way, since with Bush and Republicans, it's winner takes all! Power hungry men of great mediocrity, and great egos, are running our government now, we must begin now to defeat the Rove calculating political machine! A man called Aneurin Bevin spoke of someone else but correctly described Bush/Rove policy which has shown a genius for putting flamboyant labels on empty luggage! This time we must not waste time in opening the luggage, revealing the truth, and pointing out their words and policies. Show us there is nothing there that will help put our nation on the right track! Susan Carr Subject: Howard "the Great" Dean Dear BF, I have a brilliant idea, why doesn't Howard Dean form his OWN brand new party ... and have BuzzFlash give it a name? We MUST get rid of the Current DEMOCRATIC party, they are PATHETIC, there will be NO accomplishments with this OLD tired crew ... BOOT them. The idea doesn't sound too complicated now, does it ??? Biden go home ... a lost cause. Colette Miller Subject: Suicide bomber traced to Britain BuzzFlash, Not having read your latest book on why people choose to become human bombs [Dying to Win], I have read some about the PLO. Americans do not realize, in my mind, that sympathizers or people who believe strongly enough to do this can live anywhere. Bush keeps on talking about terrorists and his war and he doesn't even know what he is talking about. Gibberish. Just to keep a "visible enemy" for Americans to fear. Suicide bomber traced to Britain (Telegraph) Thanks BuzzFlash, Shirley Smith
