Subject: Biden Bandwagon
Gosh, I'm so excited that Joe Biden will seek the Democratic nomination for President! Since much of the Democratic Congressional delegation has degenerated into a group of spineless weasels, who better than Biden to carry their standard? My only question: whose speeches will he plagiarize this time?
Subject: Iraq Alternatives
What virtually never gets mentioned with all the problems with the Iraq War is the alternative. If Bush and his administration had not been obsessed with Iraq from day one in 2001, they might have uncovered the 9/11 plot. Cheney, instead of holding secret energy meetings, would have chaired meetings of the security committee for which he was responsible. And maybe even Condi Rice would have shown an interest in all of the terror warnings.
Assuming 9/11 still happened, Bush would have been able to send adequate troops to Afghanistan in the beginning to capture Bin Laden and his top Al Qaeda members before they could spread their terrorist message and organization worldwide.
Unless this message gets known to the country, when Bin Laden is eventually caught or killed, Bush will reap undeserved praise even though it will have been much too late to have any effect.
Subject: Internee Good Eats ... at What Cost?
Recently, and over and over again, I've heard tell of the wondrous meals being served to our detainees at great cost. On C-SPAN I just heard the red-headed, young Adam Putnam, R-FL, assert that the cost of these meals averaged over $12 each. I've been a vegetarian at times in my life and I've eaten these kinds of meals at fairly upscale restaurants. Rarely did they cost me as much as this institutional fare purports to be. An interesting question might be - who is providing this glorious haute cuisine? Halliburton, perhaps, or some other war-profiteering Corp.? Might make an interesting story that includes the kind of fraud that would turn this tale of pampered detainees on its head.
[BuzzFlash Note: Here are some details: Cost of feeding Guantanamo detainees averages $12.68 a day (Knight Ridder/Monterey Herald); "The comparison shows that the military is spending far more on a per-person basis to feed the prisoners at Guantanamo than is spent at a wide range of U.S.-based jails. ... Pentad Corp. of Las Vegas has the contract to feed "all military personnel and detainees" at the base ..."]
Subject: Amendment 22?
I heard today that a bill is looming whereby it will be possible for a president to sit for more than 2 terms. This I understand defeats the Amendment 22(?)
It appears you are being set up. Is there any news or coverage about this? I can imagine the sitting president making it so the next election will not be held due to worldly events therefore, at a minimum, setting aside your constitution until things are "resolved." Or if this can't happen reneging on Amend #22 and get a chance to continue on.
As a neighbour, it concerns us when we see such fairly undemocratic behaviour to the south. Surely saner minds exist.

Subject: Whose Finger Do You Want on the Trigger When the World Situation Is So Delicate?
That headline appeared in the Daily Mirror in October 1951, but the majority of us today would answer “Anyone BUT George W. Bush!” Iraq is unsuccessful despite fabricated comments by the Administration, it is much more violent today, not only in Iraq, but the Taliban in Afghanistan are back. Bush refuses to talk to North Korea, despite all parties asking him to get involved! Our Allies are more involved in talks with Iran than we are, and some of the same statements used to shape policy in Iraq are repeated now in reference to Iran! Now he wants another unpopular inept bully, like himself, to represent us at the U.N. because he thinks Bolton could reform them. There are doubts they would even listen to Bolton! Both of them wear their conceit like a suit of clothes, and that doesn’t get them respect!
A trial for Saddam has been postponed time and time again, why? It is another attempt to keep information from coming out that would be detrimental to the Bush Administration and/or George Senior’s former Presidency!! Is this why one of George’s first acts was to close down records that Clinton had previously opened?
We haven’t heard about this but Iraq leaders have called for foreign forces to leave but are being ignored by the Bush puppet government!
There have been more complaints of money mismanagement; Rep. Henry Waxman is calling for answers! Read the whole chronology.
Besides the death and destruction in Iraq, there are more questions about a Bush claim of a successful policy then there are truthful answers. From start to finish, George Bush and his Administration do not have “clean hands” when it comes to war!

When Howard Dean made a fairly accurate comment that most Republicans are White, Christians, there was outrage in the press and the comment occupied every national talk show for a couple of weeks. Okay, so how about this attack on Democrats by a REPUBLICAN which is much harsher and just plain vile?
I am a Democrat and I am a Christian, and I resent being attacked by a U.S. Representative on the floor of Congress. In addition I believe many of you called Senator Durbin a traitor for suggesting that torture of POWs is beneath the dignity of the country.
I am an American and I am ashamed that my country condones and encourages this behavior. And YES, I believe that torture is something I would expect to see in a gulag, or an SS camp or in Cambodia. I certainly did not ever think the United States of America would not only practice torture, but would call anyone who objects a traitor. Shame on you all.
