Subject: Bicycle Boy
I find it disconcerting that the argument about Bolton has become
about him and his issues. We’ve totally ignored the fact that
Bolton is a paradigm of who Cheney and his bicycle-boy really
are. Bolton is representative of this administration's values,
beliefs and agenda. Bolton isn’t the problem, he’s the symptom.
We have to be more direct about that; we have to talk about it
as Cheney-Bush’s values, not Bolton’s. Otherwise they will continue
to get away with it and continue sending up these brown-shirts
and pretend some kind of arm's-length.
As for bicycle-boy, a bit of "we know who you are" is
due here. We should all send him an envelope with a playing card,
preferably the Joker, and a clothes pin. Little boys think that’s
really neat when they play it on the spokes … that will certainly
keep the bicycle-boy entertained while everyone else is playing
It’s now confirmed; when there’s a crisis at hand, our pretender-president
is to be kept out of the way, doing things like reading children’s
stories and playing on his bike. I’m just a bit concerned that
he’s usually allowed to stay up until nine. Shouldn’t he be in
bed by eight?
Having been around long enough, I can remember the days when
people on the news did not even have to be pretty to get camera
time. They used to have to have a strange qualification called
the journalism degree acquired at some prestigious university.
They often times had risked their lives early in their career
covering a story in some far off corner of the world that we never
would have heard about without their bravery. These days, our
media news heads seemed to be picked not by how much they have
covered but by how much they are willing to cover up.
Here we have a corporate media that is so controlled, confined,
cowed and just plain yellow that they would rather ignore a major
story such as the Downing Street smoking gun memo, that proves
presidential lies in the lead-up to the Iraq war, than risk the
wrath of this obviously crooked administration.
All during the Clinton-Monica scandal, we were told that sex
and power stories were just too much for ratings-hungry news media
to resist. Indeed it was their justification for 24-hour coverage
for weeks and months. But a hand-picked ex gay hooker press corps
ringer with a fake name and special White House access representing
a phony right wing news organization? Not worth covering? The
Gannon story just didn't have enough ratings elements I guess.
Story after story, from the implausible exit polls in last November's
election, to the gutting of environmental regulations, has fallen
by the wayside so that we might know every detail in the runaway
bride's called-off wedding or the Michael Jackson trial.
Stories are reported without being checked out first, and when
they are found to be wrong, such as when The New York Times
reported false claims about Iraq weapons systems leading up to
the war, they printed a small apology on a back page. This is
the newspaper equivalent to mumbling "I am sorry dear"
under your breath to your mate, in a crowded bar with a punk band
playing while your mate's at home watching TV.
When it is mistakenly reported that a high-ranking terrorist
is captured, and then we find out a week or so later that, ok,
maybe he wasn't so important a figure after all, where are the
banner headlines declaring such? Is it not newsworthy that the
information flowing from this administration cannot to be trusted?
That they constantly fix, revise, alter, withhold and practice
regularly what most civilized societies call lying?
Sure, it's plain to see if you follow these things, read blogs,
British newspapers, etc., that this press is what they quaintly
say on the street, "Bush's bitch." But many people do
not have the time and sadly depend on the corporate media to tell
them the truth because they are under the impression that it is
their job. They know democracy cannot survive without a vigorous
and independent free press, and indeed they are right it will
What we have now is a rubber stamp for power pretending to be
a free media living on the vapors of its own PR. Slowly, as the
lies are exposed, the complicity of our supposed watchdogs in
the advancement of these lies is dawning on more people. As we
slip from one disaster to another. From wars to global climate
change we must not forget our betrayal by the corporate media.
They have sold us out for personal gain. They are traitors and
they deserve nothing short of our greatest contempt!

You were right-on in selecting Jim West "GOP HOTW," but for two
things: (1) Spokane is pronounced "Spo-Can.""(2) You were
really"too gentle in saying only that he was a "powerful
Republican politician.""Before he was Spokane"mayor,
he was GOP State of Washington minority leader and his actions
led to the defeat of a series of gay civil rights bills, including
allowing civil unions and anti-defamation issues. As a straight
(and liberal) Washington male, I found him totally appalling before
this hypocrisy showed itself. This guy could be the next Roy Cohn

Subject: please explain
Dear President Bush:
Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's
Law. I have learned a great deal from you and understand why you
would propose and support a constitutional amendment banning same
sex marriage. As you said, "in the eyes of God, marriage
is based between a man a woman." I try to share that knowledge
with as many people as I can, and I remind them that it's from
God's mouth to your ear. End of debate.
I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other
elements of God's Laws and how to follow them.
1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male
and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations.
A friend of mine claims that this law applies to Mexicans but
not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?
2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned
in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be
a fair price for her?
3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she
is in her period of menstrual uncleanness Lev.15: 19-24. The problem
is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.
4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates
a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is, my neighbors.
They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?
Will one of your judges represent me if I am put in jail?
5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus
35:2. clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated
to kill him myself or should I ask the police to do it? Maybe
the current Texas
governor would be happy to oblige.
6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is
an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than some
others. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there 'degrees'
7. Lev.21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if
I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading
glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle-room
8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the
hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden
by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?
9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig
makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?
10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two
different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing
garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester
blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really
necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town
together to stone them? Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them
to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who
sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)
Mr. Bush, I know you have studied these things extensively and
thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I am confident
you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word
is eternal and unchanging.

Subject: Do you know what this June 7th represents?
I just realized that June 7th; in just a couple of weeks, will
be 1,365 days since 9/11. What does that mean? Well, that’s the
same amount of time it took us to end WWII; from the day we were
attacked at Pearl Harbor, to the signing of the treaty on the
USS Missouri on Sept 2nd, 1945.
For those of us who weren’t there (I for one, was born 11 days
after that treaty), this will give us an appreciation of the period
of time it took for the Allied Forces to beat Germany, Japan,
Romania, Russia (until 1941), Hungary, and some people say Spain.
The Allied countries were Brazil, Canada, Newfoundland, New Zealand,
South Africa, Soviet Union (from June 1941), United Kingdom, United
States (from December 1941), and Australia. World War II actually
began in Europe with the German invasion of Poland on September
Fast forward to Iraq, one country of little industry, but a lot
of oil; hardly a World War and much less of a coalition. We have
a much bigger military than the one that won WWII, where one modern
fighter jet can carry more and bigger bombs than our biggest bombers
of WWII, the B-17, which could carry 12 bombs of a total weight
of 2,000 lbs, at approximately 200 mph, with a crew of 10 men.
An F-18, our primary modern fighter today, flying at 1.8 mach
can carry 17,750 lbs of a combination of missiles and bombs with
a crew of just one man or woman.
Our oldest military aircraft, the B-52 bomber, which has been
in service since the 50’s, can carry 70,000 lbs of bombs. One
B-52 carries the equivalent of 35 B-17’s that helped win WWII.
The newer and faster B-2 Bomber can carry 24 2,000-pound bombs.
Our advancements in armament for our ground troops and naval ships
are equally as impressive.
So here we are today, hardly close to winning this war in Iraq,
much less in Afghanistan. What is the difference? Why is our enemy
increasing their attaches each month, despite our military superiority?
We are hardly winning, despite President Bush’s long ago misguided
boast of victory.
There are many reasons why we aren’t winning, primarily because
this war is much like our war on drugs; for each drug dealer we
take off the street, there are three to take his place. For each
insurgent we get rid of, there’s a whole family and all their
neighbors that will join their cause; what they think of as Freedom
Fighters. This doesn’t mean this problem can’t be beat; it just
won’t happen the way it’s being done, much like the drug war.
The problem with both of these wars is also because of our leaders
who insist that they know how to fight these problems … “Bring
‘em on!” Our leaders have been called the poster boys of Jihad
recruitment. Worse, our military isn’t geared to fighting this
kind of war and much worse, reduced to a police action. That isn’t
what our military is for. We have exposed the bare bellies of
our troops, not to mention the uselessness of our tin-can Humvees
and defective body armor … when they can get it. Our military
isn’t fighting a war; they are sitting ducks for an agenda that
has been mislabeled as “Spreading Freedom and Democracy.”.
Some of this is easy to explain; the people who’ve decided to
fight this war have no personal experience in doing so. They have
an agenda that goes far beyond this one war in two small countries.
They ignore the advice of our highly experienced military and
spy agencies for the cause of their agenda with windmills in their
horizon. That will end us with the same results as our fight in
Vietnam … knee deep in the big muddy.
We are fighting people who will give up their lives for a cause
that is much bigger than the convoluted beliefs of a few high-minded
neo-cons who have also been called Chickenhawks. Everything our
leadership is doing is because they believe in it, regardless
of what anybody else thinks. It’s my way or the highway; it’s
my way, right or wrong; it’s spreading freedom while they erode
ours. This includes their domestic agendas. They have their agendas,
and they won’t let anyone or any elections stand in their way.
As they bull their way through any objections, we’ve also lost
the respect of most of the rest of the world and we have shown
our enemies how to kill our soldiers.
So here we are, in the same amount of time it took the great Allied
Forces to beat Hitler, Mussolini and Hirohito, great military
powers in their own, we are knee deep in the sands of a small
Middle East country, fighting an enemy whose best weapon is the
explosives taped to their body or in the trunk of their car, with
no end in sight. Something says that this war is just the beginning
of something that can never be undone.
Probably the worst of all is we can’t even honor our military
dead, as George Bush has decided that they should be snuck home
in the dark of night, and buried with reporters and photographers
forbidden to attend. In the mean time, we are watching insurgents
blow themselves up on the nightly news. In their own twisted way,
Cheney/Bush are giving more honor to our enemies, because the
whole world is watching that. At least the nightly news is now
showing the faces of our fallen soldiers. That’s a start, but
where and when will it end?
Is this what George Bush meant when he said he wanted to be a
Uniter, not a Divider? How can he codify this mess with his electioneering
objections to nation-building? Is he really so shallow as to believe
that his wishes and beliefs are enough and all it takes to make
the world as he wants it? It must be, because it’s reported that
he gets to bed early and with ease … with so many people in this
world having his nightmares.
We can no longer say that everything has changed because of 9/11.
The smoking gun has been found; the world now knows that this
war was planned long before we were attacked by others unrelated
to, nor aligned with, Saddam Hussein. Many of us knew it at the
time, but we were told to shut up and get over it. I was told,
“I would vote for the devil if it would end abortion” … well,
which is it?
In this world, with the leadership of Cheney/Bush, each sunrise
brings us more gloom; each sunset settles on more deaths that
aren’t natural. The physical and mental wounds this war is doing
to our soldiers that survive will forever damage this generation
that has only answered the call to protect our nation. We owe
them too much to put them in this harm's way so carelessly. It’s
a debt that will never be repaid; it’s a promise unkept; the damage
is done. Each generation has always tried to give their children
more than we had for ourselves. This is the first time we have
so recklessly given less … and it’s not just this war.
June 7th should be a day of sobering reflection; what has been,
where we are, and where are we going. With good leadership, and
our people with a cause, our country has done great things. Sadly
we cannot say the same for today, or June 7th … 1,365 days with
no end in sight.

Once again, it is fair to say that the public is pretty well closed
out of an event that they could learn from: The National Media
Conference in St. Louis.
It is not that the conference intends it that way, but that the
very people who are being discussed, refuse to air these meetings.
Yes, we can go to the internet and stream select events on video,
but these meetings are of public importance and should be public
ally aired as such. They can do Schiavo, Peterson and Jackson
24/7 for weeks, but not this national conference of tremendous
public importance. Last week, CNN did live coverage over an hour
of the small plane that mistakenly invaded White House air space,
even after it ceased to be an event.
Of the millions of citizens in this country, how many do you think
are streaming video from these meetings? The choir of course,
not all the citizens who should know. I dare to say that most
citizens in our country are not even aware of this important event.
The folks who control the news gates are keeping them closed on
Since when is truth something to be feared in this country? In
our country’s history, when truth has been revealed, this nation
has become stronger.
Do they fear a stronger country ... stronger Americans? We get
mainstream news and so-called entertainment that strikes fear
into Americans. They know that a fearful American goes into a
defensive mode and goes along with unacceptable atrocities without
voicing objections. Through fear, Americans are easily handled,
manipulated and molded into conformity. That is why our cries
of “Wake up, Americans,” get no response. Most Americans think,
by ignoring the obvious, the obvious disappears. They are afraid
to object because they think that refraining from objection frees
them from danger. We know that their silence breeds more atrocities,
more danger for our country. I stress OUR country.
Americans who depend on the mainstream media (msm) do not have
the slightest clue that this conference is taking place. The msm
designed it that way. Maybe we should change the first lyrics
of the song “America,” to -- My country ‘tis of thee... sweet
land of secrecy!
Subject: It's Because They ARE Gay
Frank Rich asks Just
How Gay Is the Right? (NY Times). I'll say it a little clearer:
The rabidly anti-homosexual wingnuts are obviously gay and ashamed
of it. Why else would they be insisting that the presence of gay
people risks "luring" straight people to become homosexual? This
wouldn't even occur to a person who is not fighting such urges.
Why else would they be insisting that being gay is a "lifestyle
choice?" These are people who think they can act straight, and
are fighting their impulses every minute of their lives. It's
obvious. And it's why so any of them DO turn out to be gay and
living double lives.
Shouldn’t your headline read “Novak compares Democrats to Nazis’’
instead of “Novak compares filibusters to concentration camps?”
I nearly fell out of my chair when I heard him say this on Crossfire,
and he was smiling as he said it. It is really mind-boggling that
anyone could get away with this on national TV, and still be allowed
to stay on the air!
On the day of Pope John Paul’s funeral, Wolf Blitzer had both
Novak and Paul Begala on his show introducing them as both Catholics,
from the Left and the Right, then laughed and said about Begala
something like, well I don’t know how good a Catholic on the Left
can be … Ha Ha! Begala was instantly angered and red-faced, immediately
interrupting Blitzer regarding his derogatory comments and said
in fact he had named his first son John Paul after the Pope and
looking right at Blitzer telling him he strongly resented what
he just said. They went to commercial.
Novak is often flaunting his Catholic background, but he seems
more and more like the German Catholics who were a main part of
the flag-waving Nationalistic Right in Germany, together with
the Evangelical German Lutherans and others, who were much of
the Nazi Party itself. Yet, Novak and others compare the liberal

A few days after 911, I went through the Pentagon to double-check

frustration and uncertainty about the future course of U.S.

Only republicans think the press has too much freedom! If they
had their way the government would control all the media. it would
be fox news around the clock on every channel.
We now live in a CORPOCRACY.
Normally I would write a letter
to your paper's letters to the editor section, but for some reason,
they never get published." So, I will respond to you upon
reading your editorial, "Someone to Protect Besides the VIPs."
You raise some valid points within your editorial, but you are
forgetting who you are dealing with. This Republican government
does not care one bit about rational debate and if you think for
one moment they care for those you spoke of think again. I want
to remind you when Pres. Bush received those warnings prior to
September 11th, while on vacation in Texas. Did he alert any municipality
of these warnings? No, he did not. But, I will bet you that those
within his inner circle looked to protect themselves and possibly
even drew up plans should this attack happen. As you can see I
have no faith or trust whatsoever that this Administration looks
out for you and me, let alone our children. In fact many of his
domestic policies endanger children as they spend money hand over
fist in Iraq.
I would say America has far more
to fear than a small white plane entering a no fly zone over Washington,
D.C., Mr. King. While, just the other day, all one hundred senators
voted for Pres. Bush's $82 billion war operations package which
included a provision to build a $600 million dollar American embassy
in Iraq . Wouldn't those funds be better spent defending the home
front to help protect the children you mentioned within your editorial?
Just last week, the EPA lessened its restrictions on the dumping
of raw sewage into our waterways. I want you to think of that
the next time you are thirsty and are in need of a glass of water.
Now getting back to our children
who are in need of protection, many states are now looking to
drop hundreds of thousands of families off the Medicaid roles
which will endanger hundreds of thousands of children's lives.
They will no longer be able to get the medical care they need
or the shots they need to protect them from diseases that you
and I are protected from. America 's children have more to fear
than a plane flying into Washington, D.C.
These same power brokers known
as the Republican Party through their Medicare plan will force
seniors to choose between taking life saving medications and eating.
In order to keep the same benefits many are receiving at this
point, their food stamp allotment will be cut.
Now getting to where Pres. Bush
was on a bike ride in Maryland and where no one thought this was
important enough to notify him, it brings me back to the day where
America was attacked as he calmly sat reading a book which was
upside down. I have seen video feeds of him sitting there with
the most pathetic face on and it embarrasses me that this man
holds the keys to the nuclear arsenal in this country. It also
scares the you know what out of me too. Many Americans who support
him are just plain stupid to have faith in a liar.
Elected offices are much bigger
than the people that hold them and where we have seen people have
endured many national emergencies not only in this country but
others as well. I seem to remember that the new King and Queen
dedicated themselves to their roles and stayed in Britain during
World War Two despite suggestions that they should be evacuated
- the Queen was present at Buckingham Palace when it was bombed
in 1940. What did Pres. Bush do on September 11th, 2001? He flew
place to a place and hid from the dangers that many were facing
that day. In fact our senate and house members hid as well. I
seem to remember that some took time to order pizzas .I have got
to give the King and Queen of England of that time high praise
for staying with the people. It is no wonder why the Royal family
is endeared by the public over in England.
In closing, Mr. King, please
feel free to quote me in my response letter back to you. I am
hoping that one day America wakes up to the fact that these
people just do not give a damn about them and perhaps some day
we can wrest power back from them. I would love nothing more
than a revolution to take hold where we can truly be a free
Subject: Opinion Re Newsweek Retraction
The Newsweek retraction is not an issue we need to focus
In media land there is no other way to frame this but "Newsweek
put our troops/national security in danger." Although it
is also a striking example of the media's submission to government,
it is not a "pure" demonstration of the media's corruption,
because the issue of lives being lost is also meaningful.
If I were the editor and you told me that this one detail, which
was not absolutely necessary to tell the main story anyway, had
led to a dozen or two deaths, scores of woundings, fury amongst
a billion people, and the prospect of much worse, I think I'd
try to minimize its consequences, myself. Maybe others wouldn't,
but I don't see this backtracking as quintessentially evil.
If we squander our energies on this story, we will only end up
completely framed as "anti-American." There is no profit
for us in spending time with this story.
Speaking of quintessential evil, we're better off hitting relentlessly
on Media's suppression of the Downing Street "Booming Cannon,"
and the acts against the US proven by it. Now is a great time
to call to mind the nearly endless list of lies and suppressions
the BushBot Gang has foisted upon us. The artificial climate they
generated to influence domestic politics. Newsweek's
retraction pales in comparison to these stories.
To end this reign of deceit, we need to keep perspective and quickly
figure out what helps us, and what doesn't. When we talk their
issue, we lose. Make them talk our issues, and we win. 50% of
the public already knows. We need to get that up to at least 80%.
