Subject: An Open Letter to Congress
I did not serve my country only to be serviced by this or any other administration. I am so tired of seeing bumper stickers that do nothing to support our troops. The duty of supporting the troops falls squarely on the Congress of the United States of America. We elected you to represent us. Put an end to this insanity now!
The Department of Veterans Affairs and the department's budget belong in a domain free from the whims of politics. I would remind you that in this republic, you serve one master, the people--not the president, not your party, not special interest groups, and not corporations. The current state of our nation is appalling. Your involvement as a member of Congress in the negligent treatment of our active duty service men and women, their dependents, and our veterans is unacceptable. Even more deplorable is your negligent treatment of our nation's citizen soldiers. The National Guard deserves the same benefits as active duty members and nothing less. Stop treating them as second class citizens. You put them in harm's way. Now honor them by taking care of them!
In the following excerpt from a speech, President Bush made this promise. Make it happen!
"Those who man the lighthouse of freedom ask little of our nation in return. But what they ask our nation must provide..." -- George W. Bush

Subject: Cheney's daughter as Middle East diplomat?
I am almost positive I heard on MSNBC that Cheney's daughter has been named the second ranking diplomat to the Middle East. My shriek brought my husband running, and though we listened to the news updates every 15 minutes, the story was not repeated. I tried to Google the story and couldn't find anything. Either I was hallucinating, or it will eventually hit the headlines -- or more likely, be buried. Good grief -- what have we become that this blatant nepotism isn't even worth a casual mention?? Thanks for all you do,

Subject: No More Broad Strokes
We Democrats tend to discuss issues in only the broad strokes...Medicare for the elderly, the environment, education, veterans' benefits... We talk about Social Security as if it applied to every American on the planet. Wrong...from a political point of view it only applies to my 86-year old mother, your mother and my neighbor's mother...
Repubs, on the other hand, talk about the financial security of the country...they don't bother to personalize the issue...they believe they can scare all Americans by talking about what's best for "our Country."
We as Democrats fail to understand that the success and aura of John F. Kennedy was that he connected with "All" the people on an individual level. Remember..."Ask not what you can do for you, ask what you can do for your country?..." Together, as one country, one people...we were going to make a difference.
Repugs, on the other hand, really don't care about us, the American individual...they care only about corporations, big business, rich people and getting their greedy hands on the tons of money available to those in power. For years, the Repugs have hammered away at the abortion issue; Falwell, Roberts, Bush, and all the other righteous Repugs have taken to this issue so they could do what? Actually solve the dilemma between the pro-abortionist and the pro-rights groups? I think not. After all, they control the House, the Senate, the White House and the Supreme Court. IF THEY ACTUALLY WANTED TO ESTABLISH A POLICY IN WHICH THEY BELIEVED...THEY HAVE THE POWER TO DO IT. And so why haven't they?
Well, the answer is obvious...put your thinking hats on...That's what I told a right wing friend of mine recently -- "You guys control the system, if you really wanted to change it, why don't you? "Well, then" he replied, "we wouldn't have anything to beat you Democrats up with, would we...?" When Bob Barr drove his wife to an abortion clinic, (then later lied about it under oath), do you really believe he was thinking about the life of that baby? I have yet to hear ONE DEMOCRAT utter this on the floor of the House or the Senate... If the Republicans are so strident about abortion, why won't they do something about it...?
They didn't think twice about calling President Bill Clinton a liar... When Gingrich was diddling his secretary, do you really believe he was thinking about Christian morals and family values? If they actually wanted to pass legislation to stop abortions, they have the power to do it. But they haven't. If I were a one-term Senator I would challenge them to go ahead and do it -- propose an anti-abortion amendment to the Constitution instead of just using the issue to beat up on Democrats.
And any Democrat who succumbed to the tactic of calling fellow Senators -- "My friend and esteemed colleague" -- should be banned from the party. Listen and listen good, Joe Biden, Hillary, Diane, and the rest of you -- THEY ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS NOR ARE THEY YOUR COLLEAGUES... they are a threat to the very democracy you have sworn to uphold. They will burn the Capitol -- or the Reichstag -- before they will capitulate to you. Get some backbone...stand up FOR the people who elected you once and for all.
They will put you into a camp as surely as Hitler put the Jews away...Don't doubt it for a minute...they are not your friends nor are they your colleagues nor do they actually intend to work in a bi-partisan way with you. THEY ARE USING YOU AND YOU ARE FALLING FOR IT!!!
When the so-called "Contract with America" was formulated, what were the Repugs actually thinking? Quite simply, demonize Bill and Hillary Clinton, the Democrats, our ideas and our ideals. They impeached our President for a personal indiscretion; we now have a President who took my country to war under false pretense and NO ONE, not one Democrat, has stood up and objected to it.
Control the messenger and you control the message...Gingrich had it correct. And we as Democrats stood by and did nothing and we still are standing by -- except for Barbara Boxer -- we continue standing by.
Now let's give Senator Reid and his fellow Democratic Senators something to live by. Get up, do something, challenge them, get the facts straight and elaborate on them...call them liars, and when the Snoozies in the media distort the facts because of something they "learned" at a DC cocktail party...take them on...Remember..."You can't take the Hill sitting on your ass..."
And that goes for Howard Dean and the folks at the DNC as well. And the next time some right-winger refers to the "Democrat" Party I'll smack them...it's the Democratic Party Tom DeLay...you moron, and if you can't get that correct you don't deserve to be in a leadership position...
Subject: Bush's Vision For America
George W. Bush’s grandiloquent vision for America and his legacy as its leader is coming into sharp focus. He has begun the process of abolishing the social progress of the twentieth century and restoring the de facto aristocracy of the nineteenth.
He has restructured income, inheritance and capital gains taxes to benefit the wealthy. He proposes to privatize Social Security which will inevitably result in abolishing it altogether. He speaks of creating "an ownership society" where the government plays no role in people’s lives.
Think about that. Instead of fostering an attitude in society of "We’re all in this together," his philosophy suggests a callous policy of "I’ve got mine Jack. Screw you, you’re on your own, it’s every man for himself."
He has forcefully asserted his position as commander of the world’s most powerful military by waging a war of aggression against Iraq; earning for him an international reputation as a loose cannon and war-monger. His recent saber-rattling against Iran and Syria has put the world on notice that he intends to extend his American empire to those countries as well - one way or the other.
If he succeeds in implementing his vision then to some degree each of the following results is likely. We can expect the downward spiral of wages to accelerate as good-paying jobs are moved offshore. We can expect privatization to result in the collapse of the Social Security System that has served us well for 70 years and with minor adjustments would remain fiscally sound forever. We can expect serious financial difficulties as other countries continue to lose confidence in our fiscal responsibility and refuse to finance the out-of-control debt resulting from the reduction and elimination of taxes on the most affluent among us. We can expect a continuation of the erosion of civil liberties as the government increasingly regards the people as enemies of the state who may be tortured and held incommunicado indefinitely without trial. We can expect our country to continue its policy of waging morally unjustifiable wars to assert his vision of world dominance, perhaps even resorting to nuclear weapons as an economical alternative to troop deployment.

Subject: SOCIAL SECURITY
I think there is a very simple way to see the fund lasts a very
long time. First we should demand that the government pay back
every penny they have 'borrowed' from it and then demand they
adopt a hands-off policy. This is how it was supposed to be handled
from the time of its inception. The money in the fund is put there
by working americans for working americans. It is not a petty
cash fund for the politicians to pilfer anytime they want to!
We don't need nor want their worthless IOUs! If they keep their
hands out of it, it will last for many years to come.
Subject: Thank you!!!
I just wanted to thank everyone at BuzzFlash for their hard work
and dedication to the truth. We live in insane times where the
government can kill, steal, and torture in the name of democracy.
I don't know how I'll explain it to my kids, when they are old
enough to understand. Please don't give an inch, these people
are crazy. I'll make a monetary contribution when I can. Thank
you once again.
