Subject: Which is worse, a symbolic vote, or not supplying
the Armor to the Troops?
Troops are dying from lack of equipment and armor.
Throughout the campaign Bush taunted and mocked Kerry with the
litany of 'I first supported the 87 Billion for the Troops,
before I voted against it.' This however wasn't the complete
truth.
Kerry's vote last year against the administration's $87 billion
proposal to fund troops in Iraq and pay for Iraqi reconstruction
has also been the focus of Republican attacks. "My opponent
and his running mate voted against this money for bullets, and
fuel, and vehicles, and body armor," Bush said September
2, 2004. Kerry actually supported all those things, but as part
of a different version of the bill opposed by the administration.
At the time, many Republicans were uncomfortable with the administration's
plans and the White House had to threaten a veto against the
congressional version to bring reluctant lawmakers in line.
In a floor statement explaining his vote, Kerry said he favored
the $67 billion for the troops on the ground - "I support
our troops in Iraq and their mission" - but faulted the
administration's $20 billion request for reconstruction. He
complained that administration "has only given us a set
of goals and vague timetables, not a detailed plan."
Kerry wanted budget cuts equal to the spending going on in Iraq,
or a rescinding of part of the tax cuts to the wealthy to pay
for the funding. Also the 20 Billion was a gift to Iraq and
Kerry wanted it to be a loan, paid back by oil revenues. Finally
Kerry wanted Halliburton to be accountable for the funds received
and give an audit of the funds use. Hardly unreasonable especially
since current events suggest that these measures were prudent.
On September 2, 2004, the State Department said that only $1
billion of that money has been spent in the 11 months since
the bill was passed.
The House Armed Services Committee released statistics on December
9, 2004 showing that while many Humvees are armored, most transport
trucks that crisscross Iraq are not.
The committee said more than three-quarters of the 19,854 Humvees
in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait carry protective armor, which
can vary in quality. The most secure are factory-armored Humvees,
and the Pentagon has received only 5,910 of the 8,105 that commanders
say they need. But only 10 percent of the 4,814 medium-weight
transport trucks have armor, and only 15 percent of the 4,314
heavy transport vehicles.
The kits to add extra protection to vehicles already in Iraq
are being produced by the United States Army Matériel
Command, where officials said they were scrambling to speed
up the work and complete the most recent order from Iraq before
the previous goal of March 2005. "We're trying to ramp
up and accelerate the process, and there is a possibility we
might meet the requirement prior to that time," said Tesia
Williams, an Army spokeswoman.
At the same time, she defended the Army's efforts to date in
armoring the Humvees used in Iraq. According to figures supplied
by Ms. Williams, the Matériel Command first received
orders for 1,000 kits in November 2003, followed by orders for
2,870 in December; 800 in January 2004; 2,090 in February; and
1,516 in April 2004. More orders received last summer brought
the total order to 13,872, of which about 75 percent has been
filled, she said.
Armor Holdings also produces armor for new Humvees, and the
company said it told the Army last month that it had the capacity
to increase its production to 550 vehicles a month, compared
with the 450 vehicles it is handling now.
Insurgent attacks on the vehicles with homemade bombs and rocket-propelled
grenades are accounting for as much as half of the more than
1,000 U.S. deaths and 9,000 U.S. wounded in Iraq, according
to Congressional estimates.
FAILURE TO PLAN MEANS LACK OF EQUIPMENT: Before the war, the
White House was anxious to garner support from the American
people for the invasion. As a result, the administration concentrated
solely on a best-case scenario in which U.S. troops would be
greeted by a grateful population and the conflict would end
quickly with little expense or effort. As a result, the Army
today doesn't have the equipment it needs. The Pentagon, for
example, originally said it would need 235 armored Humvees in
Iraq. In reality, it needs 8,105, or thirty-five times the amount
it predicted before the war.
So I ask this question. With half the fatalities coming from
the attacks on US vehicles, this is common knowledge. With the
campaign accusation of Kerry not voting for the money to keep
our troops safe. With the Administration knowing that initially
virtually all vehicles in Iraq were without adequate armor and
the desperate need for this armor. Why is it that, almost two
years after the invasion and almost a year after the funds were
authorized, the troops are still dying from lack of NECESSARY
equipment?
Troops are dying. Bush made one of the main reasons NOT to vote
for Kerry was his vote 'not' to support the troops with necessary
equipment. Yet Bush's Administration has Not honored Bush's
promise to give the troops whatever they need to do their jobs
and bring them home safe. Bush said this was a priority. Yet
a soldier had to ask a question to Rumsfeld to expose the lie,
that is the horrible truth, that the Bush Administration is
NOT doing all that is necessary and appears not to even care
about our troops. If Bush was truly upset with this obscenity,
someone's head would have rolled. The blasé attitude
of Bush that he wasn't aware of the situation sounds similar
when Americans died 3 years earlier on 9/11/01. How many times
will he use this excuse? "I didn't know."
Where's the Responsibility? Where is the Accountability?
Time will tell all the Truth.

Subject: report on election problems
It's essential to our American democracy to thoroughly report
on the 2004 election problems. This ongoing, unfolding story
includes the privatization of our election system; election
fraud through manipulation of voting records and machines; severe
vote suppression targeting minority voters; partisan election
officials tampering with the vote; and an ongoing cover-up.
Currently, there are at least four important stories regarding
the 2004 Presidential election:
1 - 12/15 NYTimes: Lawmaker
Seeks Inquiry Into Ohio Vote - asks the Federal Bureau of Investigation
and an Ohio county prosecutor to explore "inappropriate
and likely illegal election tampering"

2 - Representative John Conyers held a second forum on the Ohio
election problems on Monday, December 13th, concerning new evidence
of election irregularities and fraud in Ohio. The many participants
include other Congressional Representatives, Rev. Jesse Jackson,
and key lawyers and witnesses in on-going election lawsuits.

3 - Democrat John Kerry has formally requested that county election
officials allow his witnesses to visually inspect the 92,000
ballots cast in Ohio in which no vote for president was recorded.
The request is one of 11 items that Kerry is asking for as part
of the recount that Ohio's 88 county boards of election will
begin this week, according to a letter sent to the election
boards over the weekend.

Subject: A Weakened Country and Its Guns...
I have been following the exploits of this administration since
its appointment in 2000. I laughed back in that day as to how
someone so fake, so full of himself could become president.
I read any info I could find, mainstream or otherwise, on the
actions of this administration. A lot of what they have done
is unbelievable to say the least. Lots of rhetoric and double
standards. Then getting thrown into this war with Iraq under
the most ridiculous circumstances.
But as I continue to read and watch things "progress,"
it seems as if there is a pattern to this administration's actions.
With every move they make, they encourage and spread ...division.
They make America more dependent on foreign oil. They continue
to make decisions that weaken this country's economy. They strive
to make the American people weaker while dividing us and making
us fight amongst ourselves when they take no personal risk.
They isolate us from the world and make us hated as a people.
They dumb us down, and show us cleansed news and cleansed images,
and feed us tampered elections to keep up the facade of democracy.
Why do they do it? Is it just a matter of circumstance and bad
luck that their best intentions are backfiring? Or is it that
they intend to weaken this country in all aspects? Is it just
an accident that the decisions they make consistently degrade
us as a nation in some way? Or is it their true intention of
making us ripe for the kill?
It has happened before in the past. A nation's leader betrays
his people. Another war, another invasion, another ending to
a country. Given the history of democracies, is it really so
far fetched to believe that what is being done to us as a people
by our "leaders" is according to plan?
As paranoid as it sounds, it's something to keep in mind considering
the history of the man-made world. Maybe it's not such an evil
thing to own a gun, or multiple guns. We as a people just may
need them in the future to save ourselves from our government...

Subject: My Dear Pres. Bush...
To President Bush, December 20, 2004
I am absolutely stunned that Time Magazine would name you person
of the year. That is because you do not merit any such honor only
our collective condemnation. I have written them of my outrage
already for choosing you, Pres. Bush. I suggested to them that
they name at least one soldier who died because you lied to our
country, our congress, the world and to these soldiers' families
why we engaged in a war we had no business fighting. Any publication
that would name as their person of the year who systematically
murdered an estimated 100,000 INNOCENT Iraqi citizens should be
met with an equal amount of condemnation.
In my letter to Time Magazine here is a response to them addressing
an observation made by them, "he relishes that some people
dislike him." For a man who wanted to unite the country instead
of dividing it, it seems that he is proud of being disliked by
half of America. But, I would use a stronger term to reflect the
feelings of those who oppose him and replace dislike with hate.
Just look at how he is met overseas when he visits to know this
to be true. Look at the many protests that meet him as he travels
this country to know this to be true, where those who protest
him are put into pens far away from him. In my opinion, a president
should want only the approval of the American people and not 'relish'
the opposite. Being liked by the American people is not a sign
of weakness. What it does show is that the president has the collective
support of many Americans. Where we are truly a united country.
But in these last few years you have done everything to make us
a divided country.
As we come upon Christmas Day where we who are Christians celebrate
the birth of Jesus Christ, my thoughts and prayers are with those
families whose sons and daughters are no longer with them because
you sacrificed their lives for greed and power. Something that
Christ himself would abhor and condemn. You violated many of the
Ten Commandments and sent these men and women to their untimely
deaths. You took away someone's father, mother, brother or sister
in what is supposed to be a joyous time of year and for that,
I cannot forgive you. It is my opinion that God would never forgive
you for that. So, instead of opening up presents under the tree
on Christmas morning, they are buried six feet under and that
is on you, Pres. Bush. In my opinion, you are not a Christian.
As we come upon Christmas Day, my thoughts and prayers are also
with the millions of Americans who are poor and powerless knowing
that their president cares nothing for them at all. Perhaps, Time
Magazine should have chosen one of them instead. Millions of Americans
are facing dire situations where their president does not give
a damn, but for the grace of God live their life in honesty and
with some shred of dignity. That is to be honored. Those are the
people that Christ surrounded himself with. He did not surround
himself with people like you. If Time Magazine were to choose
a homeless man, woman or family, that would be commendable. They
would be at least acknowledging the lives of many you just never
hear of on the six o’clock news or in publications such as theirs.
I also wonder just how many children are going without a roof
over their heads due to your many policies? Perhaps, they can
use publications such as Time Magazine as a form of bedding to
insulate their bodies from the cold. God’s children deserve much
more than what you have given them.
I also think of the many children that you have murdered in Iraq
and my heart goes out to every single one of them. They did not
deserve to die, Pres. Bush, but to grow up like my children are,
going to school, playing and taking part in any celebration along
with their families.
How Time Magazine can honor a man like you is beyond me. All I
know is when I am at any check out line seeing your picture on
their publication, my only reaction will be revulsion and not
praise.

Subject: Triple Bonus Money
A lot of coverage is being given to the new triple bonus offered
by the Army, Guard and Reserves. However, there's been no mention
as to how the money will be dispersed. If my memory serves me
correct, a third of the monies is offered up front. A third
midway through the enlistment, and the final payment upon completion
of the enlistment. My question is: what happens if a soldier

Subject: interesting about Gibson
Mel Gibson is pretty conservative on some issues. One thing
that was seldom reported, however, is that he said he did not
believe Bush is a good moral man. He believes Bush was wrong
to send us into Iraq, and wrong on many counts. This was on
a mainstream daytime news show, but it was shut up real quickly
in the media, and his movie was suddenly silent after that too.
He is no Bush supporter, if the truth be known. Yep, he is pro
life, yep, he is against the death penalty. He is not in any
package. If the news more widely reported that he did not trust
Bush, I wonder what the effect on Bush would have been? I wonder
if the Religious Right would have been splintered over that.

Subject: Letter to Rep Pelosi, Sen Reid
Dear BuzzFlash,
Just wrote this, plan to send it to Pelosi/Reid (with c.c. to
a lot of other Dems and moderate Republicans as well) sometime
today, but I'd like to share it with you:
Dear Rep. Pelosi and Sen. Reid:
Though I find both of you admirable as people and as public
officials, I've been stunned and shattered by two reports I've
heard about your recent remarks.
Rep. Pelosi, it seems, has said that she is willing to discuss
"reforming" Social Security, while Sen. Reid seems
to think having a Chief Justice who denies a Right to Privacy
is just fine.
I understand you are trying to reach out, and to act like reasonable
people. The problem here is that you don't seem to grasp that
you are actually dealing with "The Looney-Tunes Express,"
and it's racing to take America right over a very steep cliff.
In the wreckage you will find our standing in the world, our
economy, our military, our very air and water, our children's
future, and, not the least, our Constitution. Do you remember
your oath to "defend the Constitution of the United States
against all enemies, foreign and domestic?"
Maybe you've misunderstood the Bush agenda, so let's state it
here in plain talk.
First, run every scam possible to take money, health, safety,
and rights from the people, while giving it all over to their
friends and partners. Second, foment trouble and spread disinformation
whenever possible, the better to keep the population tied down
with fear and false hopes. Third, subvert the lawful oversight
functions of Congress, whether through secrecy, omission of
facts, or outright lying. Fourth, reduce the populace to the
status of cash-cows and soldiers, in desperate competition for
low-paying jobs. Fifth, make a mockery of the idea of a self-governing
people.
This is their vision of America, though they won't say it in
public. Now, you should either sign on to this, or you should
stop this. Tell us, though, if you are going to sign on, so
we can at least start looking for someone to represent the American
people's interests.
If you are going to stop them, then loudly expose each and every
one of their shady and fraudulent schemes. They will call you
"obstructionist." Fine. Say that you are obstructing
the "Destructionists." The destroyers of our standing
in the world, our economy, our safety, our military, our social
support systems, our quality control over food and drugs, our
Constitution, our children's future...
Being "reasonable" with this "Insane Clown Posse"
might get us going over the cliff at 100 miles per hour instead
of 200. We need to not go over the cliff at all. Please, then,
stop signing on to whatever scam they spin; stop supporting
whatever con-man they put forward; figure there's a 50% chance
that your pollsters/strategists are paid more by the Republicans
than by you; and show some backbone on behalf of the people
of the United States, and your own good conscience!
Please, choose. Are you going to continue to play for the crumbs
the Corporations throw you? Notice that they are abandoning
you by degrees as they see permanent power accruing to the regime.
Or will you serve the people? Notice your party has failed miserably
in defending us--including Sen. Kerry's betrayal of his "every
vote will count" pledge. Think I'm voting Democratic again
unless I see some changes? Think there aren't millions who feel
like me? How long before your party has gone the way of the
Whigs? (Or more appropriately, the Mensheviks in Soviet Russia,
or the Social Democrats in 1930s Germany.) Go for their jugular,
because they are going for ours, and they will not be stopped
by friendly gestures.
When the Republican leadership thinks "Conservative"
they are thinking 15th-Century-style Conservative. Their real
aim is that our grandchildren will work for their grandchildren
for next to nothing. If you think that your grandchildren will
be counted lords and not serfs in the coming America, you are
as deluded as the Crackpot Millionaire Cult running the show
right now.
In your heart, you know I'm right. Do something about it.
Thank you for your time and attention,
Sincerely,
Jim P.

Subject: Moral Values
The Republican Party is now being touted as the party of moral
values. It may well be if your definition of moral values doesn’t
undergo close scrutiny.
Two of the top dogs on right wing hate radio have demonstrated
not moral values but blatant hypocrisy. I am speaking of course
of Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly. Limbaugh has reigned supreme
among the right wing radio hosts with a steady stream of anti
democrat garbage that is mostly innuendoes, little white lies
and out and out bald-faced lies. Limbaugh also set himself up
as an opinioned judge of moral values but was later temporarily
removed from the airways after it was proved that while heaping
scorn on drug addicts he was also a drug addict.
O’Reilly is known to have sexually harassed an employee, and
is believed to have given a cash settlement to buy that employee's
silence and to keep the issue out of court, yet these two verbal
charlatans are not only still on the air but are supported by
members of the so called party of moral values.
In the Republican controlled House of Representatives, the GOP
through sheer weight of numbers with no thought to fairness,
changed its rules so that Majority Leader Tom DeLay would be
able to hang on to his house leadership position even if he
is indicted as part of an investigation into alleged campaign
finance violations that helped Republicans win legislative races
in Texas.
Ohio Republican Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell is the
man in charge of Ohio’s election and also worked as chairman
for the Bush campaign. Anyone except the party of moral values
would call that a conflict of interest. It will prove interesting
to note what political plum will fall into Blackwell’s lap for
services rendered in the 04 campaign.
Last we have the president of the United States who not only
lied to the voter but to the world when he took us to war with
Iraq over non existent weapons of mass destruction. When this
fabrication became apparent, he changed his story and stated
that Saddam Hussein was involved in 9-11. At the time this dishonesty
was proven incorrect, Bush sang out the refrain that Saddam
intended to acquire weapons of mass destruction and thus war
was necessary. Over 1000 Americans dead, over 100,000 Iraqi
dead and it’s far from over. That’s a lot of death for one man's
alleged intentions, yet the self-styled party of moral values
returned this established fraud to the Presidency of the United
States of America
The Republican party has a propensity to reward wrong-doing
with approval as long as it benefits them. If depression era
bank robber John Dillinger, were still alive, active, and could
pull one of his famous bank jobs and donate half the take to
the Republican Party, then I feel confident the party of moral
values would petition the Pope to elevate him to sainthood,
and yes, Jerry Falwell would bless the attempt.

Subject: Not One Damn Dime Day!!!
This was forwarded to me...and I thought it would be an easy
way for us all to make a statement about how we feel about the
state of our nation and the world.
Inauguration Day, Thursday, January 20th, 2005 is "Not
One Damn Dime Day" in America. On "Not One Damn Dime
Day" those who oppose what is happening in our name in
Iraq can speak up with a 24-hour national boycott of all forms
of consumer spending.
During "Not One Damn Dime Day" please don't spend
money. Not one damn dime for gasoline. Not one damn dime for
necessities or for impulse purchases. Not one damn dime for
anything for 24 hours. The object is simple. Remind the people
in power that the war in Iraq is immoral and illegal; that they
are responsible for starting it and that it is their responsibility
to stop it.
"Not One Damn Dime Day" is to remind them, too, that
they work for the people of the United States of America, not
for the international corporations and K Street lobbyists who
represent the corporations and funnel cash into American politics.
There's no rally to attend. No marching to do. No left or right
wing agenda to rant about. On "Not One Damn Dime Day"
you take action by doing nothing. You open your mouth by keeping
your wallet closed. For 24 hours, nothing gets spent, not one
damn dime, to remind our religious leaders and our politicians
of their moral responsibility to end the war in Iraq and give
America back to the people.

Attorney General Ken Salazar (D), now a Senator-Elect from Colorado,
was more than capable of handling the ACORN case.
Who prompted this spiking?........
In Pa. Acorn employees provided a great photo-op for Curt Weldon
(R- Pa). Outside of a jail, he was deriding the practice of
Democrats trying to enter jails with the intent to register
prisoners for the coming election. As he was bloviating, the
ACORN folks came strolling by Weldon's news conference with
voter registration applications in hand - allegedly obtained
from prisoners at the jail. What serendipitous timing for Mr.
Weldon. What a morality tale in action! This little bit of street
theatre was mentioned by a very proud and very confident Karl
Rove in an interview conducted by Fox News talking heads "Hannity
and Colmes" just prior to the election.
Source: " Rove predicts Bush wins by 4 more years".
........
Then there was the bizarre letter from an "informant"
sent to the head of the FL. Republican Party. "Mr .X"
-that is the name I will give him - refers to ACORN workers
in a most unflattering light. "X" however made several
factual errors leading the logical mind to deduce that the Bush
campaign created this phony missive and thrust it into the hand
of the Chairman. Source: Salon Magazine. It can be googled.

The other thing...his low ratings...of course, he is still

right wing republican for very long....they just can never admit
that he has done anything wrong...so my theory is that...most
people who vote for him...do it because they have to prove that
they believe everything he says! .I know one who still thinks
that they will find WMD even after Rummy saying to the interim
president of Iraq...that we were sorry that we found no WMD...most
of the republicans that I know...won't even listen to Bush or
Rumsfeld now...if they admitted that the entire thing was made

Subject: The New Democrats
There seems to be a concerted effort by the DLC (and the New
Republic people) to hijack the new-found energy of grassroots,
progressive Democrats. In order to capitalize on the energy,
structure, and potential of the newly mobilized progressive
movement, these jackals are trying to take the party in a direction
that is antithetical to the morals and values of everyone, such
as myself, who worked like dogs this past election to get our
party back on its feet. These permanent pundits and election-losing
lackeys, these boot-licking (sorry-couldn't resist) spinmeisters
for power and money are attempting to frame the Democratic resurgence
as one of global aggression, with the "evil empire"
now being "totalitarian Islam."
Now, I do not in any way mean to play down the very real threat
of actual terrorism; what I AM saying is that this sort of revolting
authoritarian manipulation, this vile use of a very real threat
to divide, conquer, and co-opt (read: enervate) a truly populist
groundswell of energy and activity, while expected from the
right, is sickening beyond words when it comes from those who
are supposedly of my own party. But most importantly, these
guys' knee-jerk, vitriolic dismissals of Michael Moore, MoveOn.org,
and especially Howard Dean, tell me all I need to know of the
true nature of their work, i.e., that they want to capture the
energy and spirit of the most powerful political movement since
the first Progressive revolution and turn it to the support
of entrenched Washington/military/corporate power interests.
I can only attempt to convey how revolted I am by these 'realist'
vultures, supposedly of my own political party, backed by big,
big money, and their attempt to feed off of an authentic, dynamic
political movement. I did NOT work so hard, for over a year,
attending precinct and county conventions, block-walking, phone-banking,
networking, and bake-sale-ing (now THAT was a great, fun idea;
thanks, MoveOn!) to have these bottom feeders steal and invalidate
my efforts. They try and draw a direct connection between those
who don't agree with them and communism, they attempt to define
who "we" are, and then they have the (really, really
tiny) balls to say that you're either with them (and therefore
America, and Democracy), or against them, in which case you're
either the enemy, or impotent. Truly, tactics worthy of McCarthy,
or the current residents of the White House. I have only one
thing to say to these parasites, and let me try and make this
perfectly clear: your days are done, you power whoring, ‘centrist’
Neo-Cons in disguise. You do NOT represent us in any way, and
you never will.
Those of us who were inspired and energized by MoveOn.org, the
candidacy of Howard Dean, and other exciting, motivated progressive
candidates and organizations find the utter contempt these slimeballs
show for Mr. Dean and the authentic grassroots movement beyond
the pale, and we will not support a party that is so pathetically
dismissive of us and our efforts. The left, and the Democratic
party, desperately needs a new identity, one based on the true
morals, values, and aspirations of intelligent, caring, progressives
of all shapes and colors (even, if done with principle, progressive
Republicans). This cold, repulsive power-grab is not it, and
if I could, I would bury (politically) these guys and their
backward-looking power-whoring forever.
But I can't. Therefore, I want to make it crystal clear that
I DO NOT and WILL NOT support, in any imaginable way, the PNAC
supporting DLC, or even the DNC as it stands today. On the contrary;
I support, with all the resources at my disposal, the true grassroots
progressive Democratic movement inspired and led by true progressives
such as Howard Dean and the people at MoveOn.org. We cannot
recreate the party if those desperately clinging to power succeed
in enervating our efforts, and if they think they can just step
in and appropriate what we've built, then they've got another
thing coming.
Thanks for listening.

Subject: Where's the Konservatives' Outrage over this?
As you of course recall, anytime one of us progressives criticized
the attack on Iraq, we were called on the carpet by the Konservatives
for "providing comfort and support" for the insurgents.
And yet, at today's press conference, King Bush II of Amerika
came out with this wonderful piece of encouragement for the
Iraqi insurgents:
WASHINGTON -- In a sobering assessment of the Iraq war, President Bush acknowledged
Monday that Americans' resolve has been shaken by grisly scenes
of death and destruction and he pointedly criticized the performance
of U.S.-trained Iraqi troops. "No question about it,"
he said. "The bombers are having an effect."
Bush:
Attacks have shaken GIs (AP/Nashua Telegraph)
Bush basically has come out and said "yeah, your attacks
are having their intended purpose, keep it up." This provides
more 'aid, comfort, solace and encouragement' to the 'terrrists'
in Iraq than a dozen peace marches here in the States ever could
have. What if a Democrat had come out and said "yes, the
attacks are having an effect?" They'd be savaged by the
radical right-wing nutjobs of our fair Kountry. Personally I
find Bush's comment nearly as galling as the "bring 'em
on" smack he uttered during his other press conference,
however many years ago that was. The level of hypocrisy amongst
these pigs knows no bounds. We should be outraged.

Subject: Merry Christmas America -- Is this what you voted
for?
Huge National Debt – Currently, each citizen's share of this
debt is $25,716.36. The debt is currently increasing by 2.56
billion per day. The feral government is now borrowing 17% of
its income each year to cover deficits. Interest payments on
the national debt total more than we spend on law enforcement
and many other programs. George Bush inherited a surplus. Because
he cut taxes while vastly increasing spending, we now have a
huge deficit each year. Even with some of the draconian cuts
to domestic spending for the most vulnerable he is now proposing,
we will likely see deficits well into the future, and that’s
without his proposal to borrow yet more money to privatize part
of social security.
Cutting Social Security – Even Bush admits his plan to allow
younger citizens to invest part of their Social Security into
private accounts will not solve the problem. Hmm, wasn’t social
security created to assure older Americans of at least some
standard of living that was not subject to the whims of the
market and capitalism? Didn’t we have old ladies surviving off
cat food because their entire savings had been wiped out by
the private system?
Privately, Bush officials have admitted that his proposal will
not make social security solvent without increasing the retirement
age and greatly cutting benefits.
If the tax rate on the top 2% of Americans were restored to
levels they were at when Bush took office, that income would
more than compensate the potential social security shortfall.
Bush’s Chief of Staff recently said that there is no Social
Security guarantee for younger Americans. No Guarantee? Then
how is still social "security"?
Chipping away at Medicare and Medicaid – Several reports lately
have detailed inner White House and Republican discussion about
drastically scaling back first Medicaid, the government healthcare
program for the poorest and disabled Americans and then Medicare,
for older Americans who most often cannot get private health
insurance.
Would Bush really deprive the disabled, the poor and the elderly
of healthcare? Isn’t he a "compassionate conservative"?
Texas, the state where Bush’s healthcare policies are now fully
in effect, has the highest rate of uninsured people in the country
– over 25% with little or no access to healthcare. What was
Texas Republicans’ response to this crisis? In 2004, they kicked
hundreds of thousands of children off CHIP, the state healthcare
program for children.
Failing to Secure America – Recent government and private studies
have concluded that three years after 9/11:
First responders are still not prepared for another major attack
The public health system would fail under a biological or chemical
weapons attack
Ports, nuclear plants, chemical plants and other vital infrastructure
are still not secured
Our airlines are still vulnerable to attack.
Why? Because Bush has not asked his buddies in corporate America
to do their fair share in keeping America safe. If big business
had taken the amount of money they contributed to the Bush campaign
and instead spent it on securing their facilities, America could
already be one of the safest countries in the world.
Can any America see an end to the situation in Iraq? Support
for the war is now at its lowest level ever, as more and more
Americans, even if they originally agreed that the war was the
right thing to do, are coming to realize how incompetently the
administration has handled it.
How many more Iraqis and Americans must die? How many new terrorists
will we create?

If it's true -- and it is -- that the sitcom is nearly dead,
we now have a way to fix it. Just put some cameras up at the
Federal Communications Commission and prepare for the chortle-fest

Of course, this would all play out like that fascinating TV
hybrid, the "dramedy." Not just comedy, but drama,
too. Two shows in one! Because based on the overwhelming response
from Monday's
column about the FCC being unduly influenced by the conservative
Parents Television Council, people are angry. Really angry.
Like, dramatic angry.
...This Bay Area backlash is a good start. Because, according
to the FCC rules, Powell and cronies don't actually initiate
investigations of TV networks. They wait for the public to
complain -- one or more complaint -- and then check to see
if there's merit.
... So, for good measure, here you go again:

Subject: Turn off the sound on the next Bush press conference
and see what happens.
Yesterday morning I had the sound off in the bedroom for most
of the press conference and I could have sworn he was telling
amusing anecdotes about the strip Scattergories they played
on Thanksgiving at the ranch. Unfortunately I had the sound
on for part of it and what he considers smile worthy nearly
brought me to tears.
Rummy is doing a slam bang job at the DOD. Who cares if he told
soldiers about to go into the front a string of lies that would
gag a maggot? It isn't money, it is the logistics of getting
the protection produced to which the manufacturers said they
could be doing a lot more, but the DOD did ask for it.
The part about the fact that people even die in tanks, so what
the hell, why spend all that money when you could die anyway.
Why indicate he wasn't aware there was a problem when parents
have been writing to everyone, but the White House launderer,
saying that they are having to buy their kids Kevlar vests for
birthday gifts and they aren't cheap? They have been doing it
for more than a year.
He nearly giggled while discussing how the insurgents have killed
thousands, well hundreds, of innocent Iraqis. This coming from
the guy who is responsible for killing around 100,000 innocent
Iraqis. We will never be sure because we don't keep count. When
we do it, it is called collateral damage.
He talked about training Iraqis to take over and then having
them object to wiping out their countrymen or for being even
slightly uneasy about standing in recruitment lines where they
are likely to be killed or being transported across the country
for training without even a pea-shooter or armored protection.
He talks about their morale when his own troops are at a historical
low in that department.
Then there was the part about Bernie being such a fine example
of what is needed in a Homeland Security boss and what a fine
job he would have done. He is proud of his vetting process and
says "we just need to continue asking the correct questions,"
indicating all the correct ones were asked, but the press had
to butt in. The only important one was will you support any
and everything Bush wants you to.
Just because his view of relaxation at the tax-payer funded
pad for WTC workers included a couple of Police Commissioner
Mistresses. Bill Clinton was impeached for lying about oral
sex at the White House, but Bernie probably used the missionary
on-duty position.
NO harm, no foul making millions because of your government
influence in the market. If everyone in the White House can
profit from the war and 9/11, why shouldn't the NYC Police Commissioner?
He grinned through the entire thing. With the sound off he
could have been amusing us all about Barnie, the terrier, chasing
Willie, black cat, up the Christmas tree or about Spotty, the
spaniel, relaying messages from God during presidential séances,
or Ofelia and her calves, Ellie and Logan, named for aides to
the former governor, ravaging the "rioting bluebonnets"

Subject: bush* stands behind his people
Dear BuzzFlash,
People, whom bush* stands behind have a funny way of falling
off a cliff. bush* has stood behind many people (Tenet and Kerik
come to immediate mind) and they all have "disappeared"
from public view.

My discussions with people on both sides of the aisle have reached
a consensus--Rummy will be gone after the Iraqi Elections. Most
likely he will leave because of "health reasons" or
because he wants to spend more time with his family.
