The BuzzFlash Mailbag The opinions expressed in the Mailbag are not necessarily those of BuzzFlash. Read the BuzzFlash FAQ for info on submitting to the Mailbag. Subject: Blacked out names in ISG Final Report The newspapers are reporting this morning that the Iraq Survey Group final report details violations of the Iraq oil embargo, listing the names of foreign corporations and individuals involved, but blacking out the names of American companies out of "privacy considerations." This is an outrage! Since when do the "privacy considerations" of corporations trump the rule of law? I know a pair that needs to get their asses dragged out of the White House and thrown into the jail house. No amount of redacting is going to hide the identities of these companies. We know who they are. Apparently the "Patriot Act" only trashes the privacy of American citizens while enshrining the "privacy" of punk ass corporations. My advice to dick and george is to off-shore themselves *quickly* to Russia or someplace, while they still can can. Subject: Gay Marriage, Abortion - NON ISSUES The really important domestic issues are the ones that affect you on a day to day basis. The ridiculous price of gasoline and health care are right at the top of the list. Every time you fill up your car, or pay your electric bill, this is a serious problem. Every time you fill your prescription or pay your ever increasing health care premiums, these are serious issues. The eroding quality of middle class jobs in America is a very serious issue for millions of people in the United States. These are some of the day to day issues that directly affect whether you are happy in your life. Now on to Gay Marriage and Abortion, two supposedly hot issues. I am 49 years old and neither of these issues has ever affected my life - not for even one minute. Many people can go their whole life and these two supposedly hot issues will never affect their everyday life. Be honest with yourself. Has either of these issues actually affected your life for more than a day or two at most? So how did these become "hot" domestic issues? This is simple. They are wedge issues used to divide Americans. And more important, they are non-issues designed to deflect your attention from the real issues, which are runaway energy and health care costs. Why do they want to distract you? This is also simple - so the energy and health care industries can rack up huge profits. These wedge issues distract you from reality while corporations pick your pocket and your job is outsourced to India or China. Michael Reinholz
Subject: If you have any doubts.... I am sure that most of your BuzzFlash audience is way ahead of me, BUT, just in case anyone missed it: buy or view, however you can get hold of it, the DVD by Greg Palast called BUSH FAMILY FORTUNES. It runs one full hour, and you have probably heard most of what is said, implied, demonstrated or shown....but this puts it all together. There is NO doubt in my mind -- this bunch knew or should have known what was coming, and should have been working like crazy to protect this nation from the terrible attacks of 9/11. They had been warned too many times. AND, as for what gives in Iraq and its re-building a la Paul Bremer and company, get a copy of the September issue of Harper's Magazine, or find the story on the Internet if possible, and read the article by Naomi Klein, called "Baghdad Year Zero: Pillaging Iraq in Pursuit of a Neocon Utopia." I have been blathering on and on about the neo-cons and the PNAC until my family thinks I am batty. Well, they're probably right, but Klein's article lays it all out, and it should be read by anyone who still wonders "why they hate usa." The article prints out to about 19 pages on your handy dandy printer; my son put it into Microsoft Word and we printed it from there. I believe the original source of this article for him was a link through Democratic Underground. We have to get rid of this bunch of empire-building, money and power-hungry theocrats and immoral hypocrites......keep on posting! Subject: New angle on "Promptergate" I'm very grateful for your links to my site and to others carrying stories on what I call "Promptergate." A growing number of writers is addressing the "earpiece" issue, and I hope you can publicize their work. My latest offering includes a new angle. I tentatively connect this controversy to the debate over Bush's health, and to his mysterious refusal to get his annual check-up. There's also a report of another "signal" during the debate itself. If the new "Promptergate" post isn't up on the server yet, try again a little later. Thanks again! "Promptergate" and Bush's health (cannonfire.blogspot) Joseph Cannon
Subject: Should Our Maker come down and tell Bush???? Is there anything short of God himself coming down to earth and standing in front of Bush and Cheney that would convince them that there were no WMD...no plans for WMD...no WMD-related programs, nothing...nothing??? How many experts does it take to tell them that they are lying to the public...that we know they are lying, that for most of us...they are not fooling us? I have been afraid...extremely, since this war started. I did not even give them an edge for mistakes then... Now, they have me thinking that they will go down in fire and take this country with them before they will admit to a mistake. I think "mistake" is a mild word for what these two have done. Cheney has been proven a liar with his debate with Edwards....he is only in the senate on Tuesdays with Republican Senators (then only once a month). He lied so many times...it took away from the lies that Bush told...and the two of them together..... In my many years on this earth I have never seen anything like it. Please...Please...get your friends to go and vote!! I met a young man in a department store today, working there. His salary was such that he had to have medicare...he had a couple of different things, illnesses. And, he said, you cannot imagine what people like that are going through right now...if you have medical coverage. (I let him know that I agreed with him.) How in the world can the Bushites still follow him like sheep? I feel that sometimes...it is not like it once was. I really think that the ones out there who are staying with him....are the ones just like him and Cheney...who will not admit a mistake...and the filthy rich. He is at a fund raiser tonight and tomorrow night....at the richest suburb of St. Louis (Frontenac). They know they will just get richer with him...the war does not matter to them...they will go along with whatever he says...just to fill their greed. So much like him. Shirley..............St. Louis
Subject: Bush audio about Iraq authorization resolution Vote for Iraq authorization was "not" vote for war. Listen to audio clips of both Bush and Kerry at the below site. President Bush constantly refers to the authorization to use force in Iraq as a "vote for the war." This is disingenuous on his part. As you can hear at the below site, Bush didn't sell this authorization to congress as a "vote for war," he lobbied for the resolution calling it a way to "keep the peace." Also at this site is precisely what Kerry said when he voted for the authorization. He didn't "vote for war" as Bush characterizes. It is important to understand precisely why Bush has been so vehement in calling this resolution "a vote for the war." Bush is desperately trying to spread the war blame to all members of congress who voted for this resolution, when in fact they only gave the President the authority to use force. The war decision was 100% Bush's responsibility. http://www.majorityreportradio.com/weblog/archives/000873.php Michael Reinholz
Subject: Buzz's Documented Evidence on DeLay Though I am not religious I went to a small Catholic girls' school in beautiful woods where the nun who was in charge of art, dress and deportment was in essence running a secret cult of Jackie. On the huge art room wall was a tiny picture of the pope, a tiny picture of Jesus and a huge picture of Jackie. She had our uniforms designed like Jackie suits with berets titled to the side and white glove...we had our hair like Jackie, learned to speak French, jump horses, and paint like Jackie. Our lessons were based on what she admired...and we kept a scrapbook about her...until the principal got wind that 15 of the little girls had turned somewhat fanatical. Nine year olds doing the Jackie whisper did us in. But we all decided what we admired most about her was her spiritual generosity...and that was the best quality in the world to have...and its absence indicates spiritual poverty. The point is that these rapacious people--DeLay, Cheney--are such vast black holes that they suck up everything trying to fill the vacuum, but everything outside of them will never be enough anymore than you can fill up a dark hole in space. After we decided this (with our teacher's help), she told us that, when St. Bernadette had visions of Hell, the people there were there because of selfishness. America was based in spiritual generosity...in Rousseau's "Social Contract" which echoed Plato's 'Republic," that government should be based on the liberty of the human soul. America is in the hands of people who couldn't get that idea if their lives depended on it. I knew DeLay was sick...didn't know he was that sick. Ironic that all these self-professed Jesus freaks couldn't possibly get any further away from those ideals than they are. Hope they enjoy the heat. Suzanne

In looking at the lie that he never met Edwards before the debate, we overlooked the larger underlying deliberate lie. Cheney only showed up in the Senate 2 times himself. Both Bush and Cheney are pathological liars and the media lets them get away with it. Cheney Attendance at Senate by Dave the pro Wed Oct 6th, 2004 at 17:30:44 GMT (From the diaries, Cheney presided over the Senate a grand total of two times the past four years -- just as many times as Edwards, who also did so twice. Subject: Bush calls Kerry a hypocrite? This is for all the Kelly Ogles who refused to ask questions. This is for the guy who said to me in an e-mail, "When they find those weapons, will you think this war was justified." Kelly, there were none then and there are none now. You told me that after 9/11, I had to trust the government would do the right thing. I just heard George W. Bush say that Kerry used exactly the same intelligence to justify why he voted for the war. Now he is saying they gave all of us the exact same intelligence he had. I know damn well he gave the public none of the intelligence that questioned his reasons for war and I am not sure he gave Kerry all the information. George W. Bush wanted to go to war because he knew Saddam was sitting on the second largest oil field in the world and George W. Bush wanted the oil and he wanted Saddam out. His people demanded reasons to attack Iraq. You know the big difference in Kerry and Bush? Kerry says he would have let the inspectors finish the job and Bush says he wouldn't have. Bush says that even with the information he has today, he would have still gone to war. Bush thinks we are so stupid and gullible. He thinks that had he told us there was no evidence of an imminent threat we would have backed a war. No we wouldn't have. Let me tell you what to expect now that his major election theme has been thrown in the toilet, i.e., that he is protecting us from the real terrorist who attacked us. The far Christian Right is going to come out of hiding and Bush is going to go more public with other agenda, "God, guns and gays." We will be called Satan's minions, instead of Saddam's. They are alerting schools, I just heard it. Anyone who is surprised needs a lobotomy today. Tonight they talk about domestic issues. They should be talking about the horrific failure of "No child left behind" being an unfunded mandate. They should be talking about Bush's own security programs being unfunded. We should be talking about measuring every child's success on whether or not they are good test-takers. The only group that is not underfunded is the top income levels and their corporations. I am so damn mad this morning. He will never admit a mistake. Karen Webb

Subject: What would Jesus do??? Is there anything short of Jesus coming down to Bush and Cheney and telling them that experts have found that there is not now, nor has there ever been, any WMD in Iraq....no plans for them...no abilities to make them, no programs!!! Does anyone out there really believe that they would back down then? Not me...I think Bush would smirk...and Cheney would sneer...and say that Jesus did not have the intel that they had. Sounds nuts, I know, but, we are at the end of our rope folks...everyone has told them...and they still think they are right. It is pretty frightening to think that the entire middle east is in turmoil now...bombings in a lot of eastern countries...who never had turmoil before...the Bush administration would rather see that than Peace! Subject: 10/8 observations The new attempt to scare Americans into voting for Bush was publicized in news reports last night and this morning. Diagrams of US schools have been found in Iraq indicating our schools may be targets of terrorists. What a horrible thought! The claim is the diagrams of 6 schools were found on a computer disk [in July] and belonged to an Iraqi insurgent. Diagrams of schools in Florida, Oregon, Georgia, Michigan, two towns in New Jersey and two towns in California have been told to increase security in light of the discovery. Hold the door, Nellie! A word of caution: Why is this front page news being delivered 1 ½ months after most schools have been in session and 25 days before the election? Why would an Iraqi [insurgent] have diagrams of schools located in small US towns on his computer? And the clincher...all six states, with the exception of GA, are the states Kerry is expected to win in the election. These clowns know perfectly well that if you want the public to pay attention, bring children into the subject. In a lot of advertising, children sell the product. It is a well-known advertising gimmick. I would hate to see something happen in any of our schools, but somehow I smell another desperate dirty trick of a crooked administration with Cheney and Rove at the helm. Neither has any shame whatsoever and would not think twice about trying to scare concerned parents into voting for Bush. After all, Bush is the great crusader against terrorism, 'ya know. Note to Rove, Bush, Cheney: If Kerry is taking votes away from you, take it like men, rather than a pack of rabid wolves. Oh, that's right. We're not talking about real men now, are we? Cathy
Did you know that, during the Russian Revolution, Vyacheslav Scriabin adopted the nom de revolution (name) "the hammer" -- that is Molotov? Source: Stalin. The Court of the Red Tsar by Simon Sebag Montefiore (Alfred A. Knopf, New York, 2004) p. 30. Zoe Oakleaf [BuzzFlash Note: CNN also mentions the "Hammer" moniker.] Subject: Bush's Political Speech Yesterday in the Mailbag, a writer asked when the networks were going to give Kerry an hour of free time to respond to the personal attacks on him by George Bush the other day in Pennsylvania. Sadly, the answer to that is: NEVER. Back in 1987, when Reagan was president and Poppy Bush was vice president, the FCC did away with the Fairness Doctrine which had been instituted in 1949. This wasn't an accident, by any means. By 1987, the Reagan administration had already succeeded in getting the media to buy into its version of what the American information system should look like: neocons at the New Republic were blithely promoting the dictators we supported in Central America while at home, the outrageous conflicts of interest of Ed Meese, Reagan's attorney general were being ignored by the mainstream media. The Fairness Doctrine ensured that the American people got to hear two sides of a story before making up their minds about a subject. To the Reaganites, and to their descendants in this administration, that simply won't do. We can't have people making up their minds about something as basic as who would better serve the interests of the whole country instead of serving the interests of a select few. So here is part of the rationale used by the FCC in striking down the Fairness Doctrine: The FCC stated: "We no longer believe that the Fairness Doctrine, as a matter of policy, serves the public interests. In making this determination, we do not question the interest of the listening and viewing public in obtaining access to diverse and antagonistic sources of information. Rather, we conclude that the Fairness Doctrine is no longer a necessary or appropriate means by which to effectuate this interest. We believe that the interest of the public in viewpoint diversity is fully served by the multiplicity of voices in the marketplace today and that the intrusion by government into the content of programming occasioned by the enforcement of the doctrine unnecessarily restricts the journalistic freedom of broadcasters. Furthermore, we find that the Fairness Doctrine, in operation actually inhibits the presentation of controversial issues of public importance to the detriment of the public and in degradation of the editorial prerogative of broadcast journalists." For editorial prerogative read "Permitting someone like Carl Cameron to make up quotes and intentionally disseminate them on the publicly owned airwaves in a concerted effort with numerous others to subvert the electoral process in the United States' presidential election of 2004." We all should know what subverting means. George H.W. Bush, Oliver North, John Poindexter, Elliot Abrams, John Negroponte, Caspar Weinberger, Colin Powell, Richard Armitage, Dick Cheney, democratic congressman and member of the 9/11 commission Lee Hamilton, Michael Ledeen, James Baker III, and countless others did it in order to trade arms with the Iranians in violation of the Boland Amendment back in that prehistoric time of the 1980s. Americans were too busy shoving Peruvian flake up their noses to realize that the will of the people as expressed through a congressional bill was being subverted and we accepted without a whimper of protest the presidential pardon of a man (Weinberger) by one of his co-conspirators (Bush I) on Christmas Eve, 1992, thus allowing one of the biggest criminals and one of the people most disdainful of the "common man" to escape justice. That, my friends, the Iran-contra scandal, is the biggest reason that George W. Bush was given the White House by the US Supreme Court, in violation of the constitution and against the popular will of the American people. It became clear when, on November 1, 2001, Bush II signed an Executive Order that effectively nullified the Presidential Records Act of 1978, the provisions of which would have unsealed the records of the Reagan administration and those of the criminal administration of the first Bush administration. Opening up the records of those administrations would have shown that the Bush I administration was out of control in its revolutionary zeal to institute a secret government apparatus and it would have made the name Bush synonymous with liar, something the proud Bush family will not to this day tolerate. In addition, unsealing all those records would have spelled the end of the careers of numerous criminals currently working in the executive branch, including, Richard Perle, Big Dick Cheney, Colin Powell, Richard Armitage, Elliot Abrams, et al, ad nauseam. These are people who still want to find work when the current administration is sent packing and the unfavorable information which might finally see the light of day would preclude any whiff of respectability from their personae. They would only be able to find work at FOX or the American Enterprise Institute, or the Hoover Institute, or.... Wait a minute. Isn't that where these people work now? The Fairness Doctrine couldn't be allowed to continue under an administration that viewed fairness as total news control and manipulation. Matt Carmody
Subject: Flash from the Past Did we ever get an intelligent answer on the 11/13/01 American Airlines flight 587 that crashed near Queens, NY, shortly after takeoff from JFK killing all 265 people aboard? Last I heard, the NTSB was speculating that air turbulence from the Japanese jet that took off moments before the ill fated 587 flight caused the crash. I always maintained that reasoning was a crock. I don't know why I thought of that crash this week. Probably because this was another [sweep it under the rug] caper from the Bush cronies. I bet almost everyone reading this forgot about the crash of American Airlines flight 587. Not long after the crash, and according to a top secret Canadian government report, the 9/11 terrorist attacks on NY were to have a repeat performance two months later on Veterans Day. Mohammed Mansour Jabarah, an al-Qaeda operative, told Canadian intelligence investigators that a man who lived in Montreal and trained in Afghanistan with the 9/11 hijackers was responsible for bringing the plane down using a shoe bomb similar to the one used by Richard Reid. Jabarah named the Montreal man as Abderraouf jDey, also known as, Farouk the Tunisian. The story was reported in the Canada National Post. Isn't it peculiar that Canadian intelligence and the Canadian people know more about the episode than Americans do? And isn't it strange that the crash event disappeared from the US news radar very quickly? Cathy [BuzzFlash Note: Some recent reporting: Mystery of Flight 587 Solved?
