Well, anyone who reads or listens to the media knows full well that Zarqawi is the latest boogeyman. It is he who gets the blame for all that is wrong in Iraq. It is he who is supposedly an Al Qaeda operative, a link to bin Laden himself. At least that's the spin. Regardless of how many times former "spies" from the CIA have stated that Zarqawi is an independent, bent on developing his very own network, the spin continues.
Over the weekend five Christian churches were bombed in Iraq, and today the Iraqis (actually stooges for the U.S. rather than true Iraqis) blame Zarqawi for the carnage. The latest headlines reads:
I suppose it's somehow expeditious to further their "cause." However, how is it that Zarqawi can be in two places at once, I wonder. Consider this headline:
"Reports in Kuwait on Friday said a man assumed to be Al Qaeda leader in Iraq, Abu Musab Zarqawi has been captured near the Syrian border." It does not actually reflect the date of capture, however.
Stating the obvious, it's clear that Zarqawi has become a "convenient" means of explaining away the insurgency in Iraq. It's all his fault. He's the instigator. He's a real, bona fide evildoer. He hates our freedom, blah, blah, blah.
But a not so obvious question remains; that is, when will it be politically expedient for Dubya to announce that Zarqawi has been apprehended? Say August 18th when another devastating report is issued about how high up the chain of command the responsibility for the torture at Abu Ghraib and other facilities goes? I wonder. Or perhaps it would be better to keep him on ice until, say, the end of October.
Well, they've got it all neatly tied up now. Mayor Bloomberg has mentioned revoking the permits for the protestors for the RNC. And why? You'll never guess. TERROR ALERTS!! Yep, they're working their magic on Bloomberg, Pataki and the NYPD. Well, now I think it's time to turn the tables on them. Yes, I was looking forward to those protests for the last year, but I feel the GOP and it's allies (the media) will somehow put a stop to them no matter how far they have to go - and they will go far. I would suggest a change of tactics. Give them a taste of their own medicine. They don't want protestors? Well we don't want the chaos of a convention in our city. I know it's too late to change the locale, but if they're going to shove terror alerts up our butts for the next 4 weeks, then I feel we have a right speak up about the turmoil they're inflicting on a city that's had its share of it. If the protestors will put the city at risk (as they imply), then isn't it the convention that's putting the city at risk? After all, if there was no convention, there would be no protestors. I would make sure Bloomberg and the rest of the saps that begged the RNC to come here understand that they themselves should be held responsible if, God forbid, something did happen (which I doubt it will - this is all about preventing protests). I realize the alerts and fake and politically motivated, but I'm extremely pissed off about the anxiety they are thrusting upon this city and other cities. They are sadistic. This is all theatre. I'm not stressed about terror attacks right now (no matter how many cops I see lining the streets - and no matter how many sirens I hear all day long). I'm stressed about the constant din of "be afraid, be very afraid - but don't be afraid - go shopping." Enough already!!! And aren't Laura Bush, Jenna and Barbara and Bloomberg soooooo brave for visiting the Citicorp headquarters? I guess they know a fake terror alert when they hear one. Thanks guys, but the rest of us live here everyday and go to work and walk our streets and live our lives. So your "courage" really doesn't impress us. What a charade.
In the above article from the Angry Liberal blog (in Buzz yesterday) - he has the following to say:
"I'm sorry but as I see it, if this administration is going to float the idea of possibly postponing the election, than given all of the evidence as we know it, they must also float the idea of possibly postponing the Republican convention. Not doing so just further makes the intent of the former warning look that much more nakedly political."
Did anyone catch Rep. Bonilla of Florida on The Daily Show? Jon ripped him a new one. It was great. Bonilla kept saying Kerry and Edwards were the 1st and 4th most liberal people in the Senate. Jon kept asking, to the point where he was yelling, "WHO, WHO SAID THEY WERE THE 1ST AND 4TH MOST LIBERAL? Bonilla couldn't come up with an answer. Jon was sort of ranting about all the attacks about Kerry voting to raise taxes 350 times, saying that these statements were out of context and mostly not true. Then Jon said something like - why doesn't the GOP cease and desist with the "rapid response" crap and start talking about issues. Sometimes I wonder why conservatives even go on his show because I have never seen anyone in the mainstream media talk to, or ask questions like these. Maybe they don't take him seriously and realize what a wide reach he has. And so Tom Brokaw - once again, this is why people turn you off and tune in to The Daily Show.
Thanks for listening, and keep that Buzz going!

Subject: Huge Threat To Democracy
I just read the story from the Ozarks about the fiasco at at Bush rally. Again, anyone who protest against Bush is bullied by the Secret Service and/or arrested. Not one Kerry protestor,to my knowledge, has been evicted or arrested or even stifled. I urge all BuzzFlashers to write letters to their editors on this subject. This is a very serious threat to Democracy. We are looking at gestapo tactics and to add insult to injury, they are using our tax dollars. I sent the story to five newspapers today and to five well known liberal columnists. Flood the internet with this type of story until it makes the major networks. Send it to Move On and all the other sites you know.
We have the power in our fingers to change this!
Subject: Got a Question
I am in Little Rock, Arkansas. This morning on the local talk radio station, the DJ was offering to pay people to disrupt John Edwards speech. WTF? Should I report it to the FCC?
Later the same station reported "several hundred" people attended the rally followed by a taped report that over "2000 people" braved the heat to attend the rally.
Heat index today was reported as being 115 but it was a bit cooler than that at the time.

Subject: Swing States?
I thought this was interesting. the conventional wisdom is that California is solid uncontested Kerry and that Washington and Pennsylvania are swing states. These poll numbers tell me there is less difference than the conventional wisdom.
PS keep up the good work!
Subject: Bush Protesters vs. Kerry Protesters
I find it odd that at Bush events the anti-Bush people are denied access, arrested, or thrown in a "free speech" zone but at Kerry events the anti-Kerry protesters are allowed to disrupt the event with a bull-horn.
The same Secret Service Department is protecting both men. It's always the Secret Service who gets blamed for the arrests and treatment so why is their policy so different between the two men? Could it be that Karl Rove is instructing them?
Just wanted to see if you could monitor or point out this disparate treatment somehow.
Subject: How we know what Al Qaeda is thinking
I figured out how John Ashcroft and Tom Ridge know that Al Qaeda wants John Kerry to win the election. This may be how they get all their information about Al Qaeda.
Al Qaeda is talking directly to Katharine Harris. ("Terror-plot statement a surprise in Indiana" by David Hackett)
Why else would she know about the plot to attack the electrical grid in Indiana? And isn't Al Qaeda clever--they knew to attack a swing state!
Subject: WE ARE A NATION MISLED AND HIJACKED
You are absolutely right again. Here we have the Bush administration going around and frightening the nation that the boogy man, Al Qaeda, might strike anytime, and despite all those so called threats, they open the statue of liberty with pomp and pageantry. Also they send Laura and her two daughters to one of the buildings that were supposed to be targeted. So much for this urgent threat.
Now as usual the timing of these threats really stinks. Just when John Kerry and John Edwards began, what I see as the start of a very successful campaign, thousands are flocking to see and hear them, a convenient terror alert is announced on information that is three years old. This is how it is going to be folks for the next three months. You will find that Tom Ridge will be making these announcements very often, and also praising Bush like he did on Sunday (how transparent these republicans are), I guess Pakistan is now working hard to please the Bush administration, and may even deliver Osama to Bush by November. My question is, why are the Bush supporters so dense? Bush goes around campaigning in his delusional way, stating that he has delivered what he promised (!), and that things are hunky dory in this country. Are the Bush supporters too blind and so loyal to their party, that they are willing to accept Bush and his failing policies, deficits, war mongering, and the deaths of thousands of human due to no good reason? Bush has not delivered on his promises, they were all empty ones, just like his brain. I love my country, but I cannot understand how so many citizens can be so dumb and unable to think for themselves, and be misled by this corrupt gang.
So sorry for the rant, but I just had to get this off my chest.
Thanks for keeping us informed and thinking!!!

Subject: MSNBC SHOULD BE ASHAMED
Jesus god! MSNBC should be ashamed for trying to pass that Scarborough show off as unbiased! I tuned in to it tonight, that man is a right wing nut job! He should be on Fox and MSNBC is as bad as Fox saying he is fair and balanced!
Subject: Bush and the terror alerts
George Bush's whole campaign boils down to:
Wet You pants and vote for me! I'm George W Bush and I approve this message.
One of you computer whiz types out there (God love the nerds, where would we be without them), ought to simply make us a graph of terror alerts and sort of alerts and what have you, big Al Qaeda catches and so forth. Get all the dates, and then take a gander at the political News on or around those dates. What you find will pretty much vindicate Howard Dean and be the last word on that argument about whether or not the terror alerts are politically motivated.
Further, look at the polls around that time, both before and after terror alert or whatever. Check out the otherwise inexplicable Bush bounce.
Here is the simple truth of it, that no one has openly said; George Bush has had his ass roundly kicked by a sick old Arab in a cave somewhere for the last three years, all over this globe. Everyone who is not loyal to the administration, has said as much as said so.
Why don’t we all say it and keep saying it. George Bush is getting whipped by a sick old Arab in a cave somewhere, cause that is just what is happening, according to indisputable facts. Is Afghanistan a Democracy and are women freer? No. Is Iraq a Democracy and is everything better now that Saddam is gone. No. They have just changed seats on the Titanic, that is all.
He wants to run his campaign on the terror factor. He can be literally destroyed on that issue. There is no doubt that the world is a more dangerous place than it was the day of 9/12/01, especially for Americans, both abroad and at home. It will get more dangerous if we fail to remove Bush from power. That is a promise or a prophecy or whatever; it would take a fool not to see it coming.
Subject: Bush began his very presidency with a lie, and repeated that same lie just today
You may recall that, while campaigning for the presidency in 2000, Dubya promised among other things to add to his oath of office the phrase, "I swear to restore and uphold the honor and dignity of the office of the presidency" or some such. This implied that he is the standard bearer and protector of all that is right and good and that, furthermore, he would see to it that the whole world knew it as it looked on when he was sworn in, by god. I also remember watching his inauguration on television (I guess I'm just a glutton for punishment!) and noticing, in addition to his shifty-eyed nervousness, that he said no such thing while being sworn in. I then told my friends and anyone else who would listen that he broke a campaign promise within just the first few precious seconds of his term! I also warned them that this was only the first of many other broken promises yet to come. Of course, I never dreamed how true my warning was destined to be.
I hadn't seen or heard anyone else mention this minor but enduring fundamental lie until recently, when I saw that David Corn noted it early on in his excellent book, "The Lies of George W. Bush", but he didn't follow up on it (or, at least, he hasn't done it as far as I've read into his book). Well, just a few minutes ago today while listening to NPR's "ATC" on the radio, I heard our George lie in his stump speech in Iowa, just a few blocks away from John Kerry, that he had done just that. What he claimed was almost precisely, "When you elected me to be pResident, I swore to restore and uphold the honor and dignity of the office of the president of the US, SO HELP ME GOD!!", and then he thanked them for electing him (as if!). Clearly, he was referring back to the revision he'd promised to make to his oath of office. Yet again, and just as clearly, he was, lying through his teeth.
I guess I'm not surprised, really, but I guess it's worth noting that he's lying so much and so often that, just as if they were being made into an omelet of obfuscation, his lies are now folding back upon themselves. I can only hope that he gets wrapped up in his little omelet, a pig in a blanket as it were, and gets cooked up nicely in time for November 2nd, 2004!
Hey guys, fight the good fight! KERRY/EDWARDS 2004!!!

Subject: August 4th Mailbag
Hello to everyone at BuzzFlash. After reading Jesse S. from Grand Rapids, MI, I just had to write to tell him how much I enjoyed his letter and the fantastic photos featuring the great signs and posters he and his friend Andrew created. I especially loved "I'm George W. Bush and I approved this mess". And the 9 x 5 foot "AWOL 1972-1973" was classic. Hell, everything he did was terrific. But most of all, I'm so impressed with a 19 year old just having his head on so straight. So many young people just don't care. And too many teens couldn't find their butt in a darkened room with a strobe light. I just pray there are more Jesse's and Andrew's out there. The future of this nation depends on them.
A BuzzFlash reader asked, "Does anyone know what question Helen Thomas was trying to ask Bush as he ignored her?"
Helen Thomas is one of the few real journalists left who practices her craft in a professional manner. For Bush to ignore this incredible lady just reaffirms what a pathetic coward he is. He and his brothers also prove their mama didn't raise any gentlemen. Helen is my idol. And she even answers her own email. You may contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org At least I hope that's still a current address. I haven't emailed her for a while. Maybe the fine folks at BuzzFlash can confirm the address for us.
I want to thank BuzzFlash again for providing the mailbag. I'm so addicted to it I can't even go to sleep until I've read each and every letter. And I actually experience "mailbag cravings" on the weekends. But if there's a cure, I don't want it. I love my addiction.
Subject: help with a wonderful idea
take my idea to someone (magazine or television channel) that will do it. i don't know the proper channels to go thru. here is my idea, a story about all the american children who have lost their parents in iraq. i was just reading a story on the abc news website-and they were talking about the death from an IED that killed the mom of a 10 year old and a father who left a wife and 2 month old child and an older child. he never met the 2 month old. i think this would be a powerful, moving, look into war consequences for families that have "values". I hope you get this done.
Subject: Whispering Campaign Against Teresa
Well, if you haven't read the following clip, please do so.
It is imperative that everyone print it out and either hand-carry it or mail a copy of it to the editor of their local newspaper and personally ask them to write an article or an editorial about it. If we call enough attention to this example of disgusting Rovian dirty politics maybe, just maybe, we can de-fang this beast, and any others like that the Repugs have planned, before it gets out of control and damages the Kerry-Edwards campaign. If you don't have time to help the campaign in any other way, please at least take the time to do this one thing!
Subject: Al Franken, Jon Stewart, Bill Maher
I've just read that Al Franken will be showing up on television soon. Wonderful news to be sure except for the fact that he will be on late at night on the Sundance Channel. I do plan to watch when it comes out next month, but I do have a question: Why is it that the right-wing douche-bags get prime-time on the "news" channels but people like Al Franken and Jon Stewart are relegated to late night? And although I am fortunate enough to have HBO so I can watch "Real Time with Bill Maher", it does make me wonder why these types of shows are less accessible than steaming piles of journalistic feces like "The O'Reilly Factor" and "Scarborough Country". What do we need to do to get the likes of Al, Jon, and Bill into prime-time?
Thanks for listening,
Subject: jesus god! christ all mighty!
Let me get this straight.....there are vets out there complaining that the bullets kerry took did not hit the right body parts? They don't think enough bullets were flying at him? The bullets did not do enough damage? Saving that man's life with bullets flying all around him was not heroic enough? This and they support AWOL frat boy bush who was too scared to go to Vietnam? Jesus Christ! What's wrong with this picture?!!!!!!!!!! And why isn't anyone pointing out that in bush's book he says he volunteered to go to Vietnam and then admitted on tv to Tim Russert he never volunteered!
Subject: Stripes: 'Disturbing trend' seen in negligent discharges of weapons in Afghanistan
In the article below, note that "Negligent Discharge" is different from "friendly fire." The stats quoted in the article are for NGs only, according to what the writer has e-mailed me. Those stats say that our soldiers are killing each other due to negligent discharge--in Afghanistan--at 25% the rate Al Qaida is.
Jon Anderson, the writer, is going to do a follow-up on Iraq's rate of NGs. He's going to send me his current stats shortly.
In the past 18 months, troops in Afghanistan have accidentally killed themselves or others at least six times and wounded nearly two dozen more troops through unsafe weapons handling, according to Army statistics released to Stars and Stripes.
In what military officials call negligent discharges, last year troops mistakenly fired their weapons 24 times in Afghanistan, injuring 18 and killing four.
So far this year, five troops have been wounded and two more have been killed in 16 accidental discharges.
In the same time frame, (in the last 18 months) 24 troops have died from combat-related injuries in Afghanistan.

I just heard Nora O'Donnell on Imus say she thought it strange to see Kerry and Edwards so buddy buddy after being bitter enemies in the primary. For starters, I would say bitter enemies was an over statement. Edwards never spread vicious lies about Kerry or vice versa. Second, we have heard others say similar things. However, no one thinks it is strange to see McCain and Bush all buddy buddy after they treated McCain so horribly in South Carolina. Yep, that's our liberal media. Gag me!
